Election Funding: Democrats and their Hypocrisy

I think this story has taken on a really interesting twist. There's an election in Wisconsin on April 1st for a seat on the Wisconsin Supreme court and "is considered by many the most important race of 2025, with wide-ranging consequences not just for the battleground state, but for the nation." 

One candidate is Judge Susan Crawford, a far left radical judge that supports every far left lunacy out there, and has made it clear she wants to have an impact on redistricting in her state to make sure more Democrats are elected to Congress, and she was considered a shoo in.

Okay, I gotta give her credit for honesty, since that's the goal of a host of members of the judiciary, in both the state and federal level, only they don't say it.  But, was it really just a matter of being honest on her part?  Or was it she was so sure of being elected she didn't need to hide her very real intentions.  

Running against her is "Trump-backed Waukesha County Circuit Court Judge and former Wisconsin Attorney General Brad Schimel and Dane County Circuit Judge", who has made it clear his goal is to save the state and the nation from and activist court.  Now, as the race started coming to the end his poll numbers shot up so much he actually has a chance to take that seat.  

Now the kicker.  Musk announces $1 million for Wisconsin voter in Supreme Court race.  

Billionaire Elon Musk says a Wisconsin voter has been awarded $1 million just days before the conclusion of a fiercely contested state Supreme Court election that’s broken spending records Musk announces $1 million for Wisconsin voter in Supreme Court race. Opposition calls it ‘corrupt’.  But as they say in all those irritating infomercials, "Wait, there's more".  

It turns out Elon Musk will pay two voting attendees of his Wisconsin event $1,000,000 each.

"With the most important election of the year for the nation happening on April 1 in Wisconsin, Elon Musk has been keenly interested in it. He passionately backs conservative candidate Brad Schimel over Soros-backed Susan Crawford and has actively worked on voter turnout. On Sunday, he’s holding an event that will only be open to those who have voted. Moreover, he’s going to be giving two lucky people a lot of money."

And of course the Democrats call that corruption, and truth be told, no matter how I feel about very wealthy people funding elections to suit themselves, I will say that he at least has been open and above board, unlike the Democrats who scream corruption, and who are more than happy to willingly accept Dark Money from autonomous sources.  If that's true, and it is, then how many groups are funded surreptitiously though the Tides Foundation to fund candidates of their liking?

The Tides Center was launched in 1996 as an offshoot of the Tides Foundation. It has incubated numerous social justice, environmental, gun-control, and abortion-rights groups. George Soros's Open Society Foundations, the Ford Foundation, the Rockefeller Brothers Fund, the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, and the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation have all pushed funding through the network.

 

One thing we do know is Dark Money is being used to destroy America, and that's been known for many years.  So, if that's true, and it is, what it boils down to is the anonymous donors donating to those kinds of funds to bring about that destruction are "the absentee owners of the Democrat Party", and their hypocrisy has no boundaries.

Democrats don’t discriminate. They want to convict all “election deniers,” whether they are white, black, men, women, young, or old. Last week, 47-year old Kimberly Zapata learned that she may spend years in prison for exposing weaknesses in Wisconsin’s election system.

Zapata was the deputy director of the Milwaukee Election Commission, and she saw a major vulnerability in the system: Anyone in Wisconsin could easily obtain military absentee ballots — real ones — simply by requesting them. And once they acquired those ballots, they could use them without satisfying the normal ID requirements.

How easy was it to get military ballots? To get 3 nice new ones, Zapata merely went to the public website (“My Vote Wisconsin”), and entered 3 phony names, 3 made-up Social Security numbers, and a phony mailing address. Zapata did not need to use any special passwords or equipment.

It is obvious that Zapata wasn’t trying to alter election results.....All of this was carefully explained in court, but to no avail. That’s because blue cities no longer use juries; instead, they use 12-person lynch mobs. The mob convicted Zapata of “misconduct in public office” (a felony), and 3 misdemeanor counts of election fraud. At her sentencing next month Kimberly Zapata could get up to 5 years in prison and a fine of up to $13,000. She has already lost her job and will never be able to hold a public office again.

Those charges may seem excessive but remember: Although election fraud is not a serious crime, exposing election fraud is very serious..............To Read More....

Citizen Groups Stepping Up to Demand Honest Elections -  Jack Gleason -I n any contest between two or more parties, an impartial referee is often necessary to ensure that the rules are followed fairly. This includes sports and competitions of all kinds, debates, and yes, even spelling bees in elementary school. Without impartial judges, there is no confidence that the victories were legitimate. This is why it is such a scandal whenever it is alleged that a referee in a hotly-contested college football championship has made a questionable game-changing call, or when a judge is found to have ties to the defendant that seemingly slants his ruling.

The Progressive Approach To Homelessness Comes To Madison, Wisconsin

“Homelessness” is one of my favorite topics because it provides an endless supply of examples of clear, dramatic, and immediate failure of the government programs supposedly intended to assist the poor and vulnerable. All of the big progressive cities follow some version of the same policies, which in summary amount to spending more and more money to provide “housing first” as the obvious solution to homelessness. All of these cities have rapidly stepped up spending over the past decade on promises to the voters to solve the homelessness problem with more subsidized housing; and all of them have then seen homelessness rise relentlessly along with the spending. It’s almost impossible to believe that nobody can learn from this experience.

For today I’ll provide the latest update from Los Angeles, as well as look at how a very similar approach has worked out in the smaller (but equally progressive) city of Madison, Wisconsin.

In a post back in March, I went into considerable detail about the efforts over the past several years of the City and County of Los Angeles to solve homelessness by ramping up spending to build new housing units into which the homeless can be placed. In 2016 the voters passed a special bond issuance, called Proposition HHH, in the amount of $1.2 billion. An LA-based non-profit called Local Housing Solutions, which advocated for Proposition HHH, described the initiative as providing funding mostly for “permanent supportive housing units for people experiencing homelessness.”

And then, as recounted in my post, in the aftermath of the referendum and as the spending took place over the following several years, the number of homeless people counted in LA City and County proceeded to go from 44,359 in 2015 to 69,144 in 2022.

Next, in early 2022, the efforts in LA to solve homelessness by spending ever more public funds on supportive housing got another big jolt of funding, this time when the City agreed to add some $3 billion of spending as part of a settlement of a lawsuit. In my March 2023 post I promised to check back in another year or so to see if all the spending is starting to make any difference at all. Checking back today, I find that a big official survey of homelessness was conducted in LA back during the summer, with the results reported in the Los Angeles Times on June 29. The results will not surprise any reader here:

The homeless count for Los Angeles County is in, and officials say the numbers are discouraging. The annual point-in-time count released Thursday by the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority found a 9% increase in Los Angeles County and a 10% increase in the city of Los Angeles.

Does anyone think that if we just allow more time for the whole $3 billion to get spent that that will turn things around?

Well, all of that is taking place in the big, faceless, soulless City of Los Angeles, with its huge and unaccountable bureaucracy. Perhaps we should look to a much smaller and more intimate, if equally progressive, place.

So, consider the latest news out of Madison, Wisconsin (population about 270,000). Like Los Angeles, Madison has also adopted the official orthodox progressive “housing first” policy as its way of addressing homelessness. How is that going? The Wisconsin State Journal has the story on December 21 (h/t Ann Althouse):

2 biggest Madison homeless projects could close within months, leaving city scrambling . . . . The two biggest "Housing First" initiatives for the homeless in Madison don't have enough money to continue operating and could be closed and sold early next year. As a result, the city of Madison is chasing options to ensure that dozens of vulnerable people aren't put out on the street.

The Wisconsin State Journal piece contains some substantial history on the projects, including the adoption of the “housing first” orthodoxy and the oodles of public funds from many sources that got poured in:

At the time of their conception, Rethke Terrace and Tree Lane were seen as big, bold attempts to get the homeless off the streets or out of temporary shelter into new, four-story, modern buildings with units that provided privacy, bathrooms and kitchens. . . . The projects were largely financed by federal tax credits provided by the Wisconsin Housing and Economic Development Authority. . . . The two developments got financial assistance from the city, Dane County and the federal low-income housing tax credits. Also, the city and county housing authorities assigned project-based housing vouchers to 54 of the 60 studios at Rethke and 40 of the 45 units at Tree Lane. 

With all that money available, how did it all go so wrong? The Wisconsin State Journal quotes Madison Community Development Director Jim O’Keefe:

"We didn’t get here overnight; the conditions at these properties developed as the result of years of neglect and inattention on the part of their property managers . . . and owners. . . .”

“Years of neglect”? Looking further in the article, we find that one of the projects (Rethke) opened in 2016, and the other (Tree Lane) in 2018. That makes five years in one case, and seven in the other, to go from brand new to uninhabitable. Both, moreover, had been subject to City “nuisance orders” as early as 2019, at which point the paint would have been barely dry.

So as of now, a receiver has been appointed, and he has asked the court to “immediately commence the process of winding down the projects,” including helping tenants to relocate.

Perhaps the model of building brand new housing, and then handing it out with no demands or expectation of responsible behavior (let alone rent) in return, has some kind of fundamental problem. But don’t expect the people currently administering these programs ever to figure that out. Their solution will always be more money and a bigger staff for their agency.

Another election-rigging scheme exposed in Wisconsin

The swing state of Wisconsin has been called out for at least one vote-rigging scheme that has swung elections. But there's more than just Zuckerbucks, a privately funded entity that invaded public election spaces without voter consent in an act the state's special counsel office said amounted to 'bribery.'  According to JustTheNews, there's also this:

A Wisconsin lawmaker is questioning whether it was legal for a political action committee to pay people to encourage others to vote for liberal Milwaukee County Circuit Court Judge Janet Protasiewicz in the state Supreme Court election in the latest mobilization tactic to raise integrity concerns in the battleground state.

Wisconsin Takes Action, a project of Organizing Empowerment PAC, held live Zoom training sessions during the Wisconsin Supreme Court race, instructing potential "community mobilizers" on how to reach out to people to encourage them to vote and get paid hundreds of dollars for their outreach efforts. 

Like the Zuckerbucks operation, the Wisconsin Takes Action group sounded innocent enough in its aims. It paid activists $30 to download their app and then contact 75 of their family and friends to urge them to get out and vote, even offering them pre-done message templates to use. In return, for each group of 75, (controlling for 15 of them), it would even assess how successful their efforts were in getting people to vote.  Is 2024 Only A Mirage?, By Cliff Nichols - Victor Davis Hanson recently published an essay titled “Our French Revolution.” In it, he describes the cultural upheaval we are experiencing in America today and how we should view those presently in control of our government who clearly intend to destroy what America once was.  In short, we are in the midst of a modern-day Jacobin revolution. The world's newest dictatorship - After President Jimmy Carter left the White House, he established the Carter Center (CC) in 1982.  One of the CC's primary missions is to observe other countries' elections to ensure that their voting procedures are free, fair, and impartial.  Carter and the CC have observed at least 101 elections in 39 countries on four continents.  Some of the hallmarks of fair elections include the right and opportunity to vote, freedom to assemble, and the right to elect candidates of the voters' choice.  In other words, the voters, not the government, must determine the political candidates.  In North Korea, Russia, and Iran, the ruling party is the party in power, and it decides who is allowed to oppose it.................

Ronna McDaniel Calls for GOP to Embrace Early Voting in 'Every Republican Campaign' - Vote early. Harvest ballots. Build broad appeal. Fight to win. These are the themes Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel will hit on in her remarks at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Institute in Simi Valley, California on Thursday evening. "Contrary to what you might hear, we did ballot harvest where the law allowed it," McDaniel will say — according to an advance copy of her remarks obtained by Townhall — using the example of the RNC working with the California Republican Party to ballot harvest "right here in the Golden State." "Two weeks ahead of Election Day, we worked with Congressman John Duarte’s campaign to identify 18,000 strong Republican voters who hadn’t voted yet despite a wide window of early voting," the RNC chairwoman will explain. "We shifted our strategy to repeatedly contact those voters as Election Day approached. Then, we worked with the California GOP to ballot harvest and ensure that those Republican votes made it to the ballot box in time to be counted." The result? "Congressman Duarte won by just 564 votes," McDaniel will highlight. .................

A Wisconsin school charges three 8th-graders with sexual harassment

The Kiel Area School District (KASD), a small district in Wisconsin, made national news on Friday for a very bad reason: the middle school filed a Title IX sexual harassment claim against three eighth-graders for the "crime" of refusing to use the "they/them" pronouns that one of their classmates demanded.*

Before going farther, let me make my position clear: there have always been people who wished they were members of the opposite sex.  The more extreme ones claimed that they were, in fact, members of the opposite sex.  Up until recently, it was understood that people in this second category were mentally ill with a syndrome called "body dysphoria."  Another form of this mental illness is anorexia, which sees a healthy person insist that she is morbidly obese.  We do not put people with anorexia on diets.

Unfortunately, because the lunatics have taken over the asylum, we now have a societal insistence that we accept as true that people with body dysphoria tied to their sexual identity are correct rather than mentally ill.  There's no evidence that this is true.  

However, a massive, money-sucking, power-hungry industry has grown up around so-called transgenderism, with schools, clinics, hospitals, therapists, surgeons and of course Planned Parenthood, dedicated to convincing children that flights of fantasy or longings or the normal discomfort of puberty mean they were born in the wrong body — and then assuring them that they can remedy this situation through hormones, surgery, and forcing people to recognize their imaginary "gender" by honoring "their pronouns."...............

The only quibble I have with the letter is that it fails to identify by name the music teacher who started this whole process.  Everyone involved in leftist bullying needs to be named and sued.........For reasons that are not entirely clear, the elementary school principal, Chad Ramminger, was the moving force behind this initiative.  He boasts in the "principal's message" that "we are first and foremost about kids."........To Read More....

Catherine Engelbrecht and Gregg Phillips have been engaged in the battle for election integrity for more than a decade, and the day after the contested November 2020 vote, they made a pact.  "Catherine looked at me and said, 'What are we going to do?'"
