If you thought the barks and howls were bad in 2012 when people learned that Mitt Romney once drove with the family dog in a crate on the car’s roof, wait until you learn that about 20 years ago South Dakota Republican Governor Kristi Noem shot and killed her puppy Cricket because he misbehaved.

In her autobiography, No Going Back: The Truth on What's Wrong with Politics and How We Move America Forward, Noem shares the horrid story of having a puppy with behavioral problems. Noem solved the problem by digging a grave, putting Cricket into the grave, and shooting the puppy.

You might be wondering why Noem shared this story. It was to prove she is ready to do whatever must be done even if it’s “difficult, messy and ugly.”

The book includes several other similar stories regarding farm animals. Now that might be how it is done on a farm, but the fact that Noem included the puppy killing story in her book tells us that she does not understand that an overwhelming majority of Americans see their dogs (and cats) as family members. When a dog has behavioral problems, you spend time training him. If you must, find the pooch a new home. You don’t dig a hole, put the pooch in it and shoot the puppy.

If Noem misses the pulse on this issue, what else does she miss? We should be thankful that Noem didn’t have any children with behavioral problems.

AND … The vice president hopeful will be a keynote speaker at the May 17-19 California GOP convention. (Note: Noem has NO chance of being Trump’s vice president pick.) Tickets to the Saturday luncheon featuring Noem are $300 for VIP seats, which includes a private photo-op, and $175 for general admission. Maybe the photo ops will be by a gravel pit.
