Mass Shooting is About Culture, and Culture is King

History is everything, and life is about patterns and circles.  Patterns of behavior, and the social circles promoting that behavior.

I posted this piece yesterday, Nitwit Brigade on Parade, Part V, discussing the mass shooting in Minnesota of the murder of two young Catholic children by a trans character, which was clearly a anti-Catholic hate crime.  

My series focuses on the idiotic things said and done by prominent people, but mostly all the celebrity halfwits, nitwits, misfits, dipsticks and meritless pinheads who represent a vile cesspool of destructive self important corruption.   I've often wished someone would give these celebrities psychological profile tests, and publish the results.  There's something seriously wrong with them.

 In yesterday's piece, which I posted in the very early AM, focused on Mia Farrow, but make no mistake, I knew before the day was out the internet would be ripe with demands for gun control, and in some demented way twisting things in a effort to subtly turn this monster into a victim.  

And that was as sure and night follows day.  Years ago it appeared Trey Gowdy was a strong conservative, but in reality, former Rep. Matt Gaetz called Gowdy a deep state boot licker", a "useful idiot for the left".  

Instead of doing the right thing and discussing the very real problem of transgender violence, from Nashville to Colorado Springs to Minneapolis, and on, Gowdy handed the radical left exactly what they desperately needed: deflection. He ignored the glaring facts and blamed “young white men” for the violence.

It's white people who are the problem.  Well, at least he didn't blame the Jews, but he, as well as the entire left has ignored this man was:

......another "transgender" murderer targeting a Christian school, this time in Minnesota, has shaken me to my core. It has wiped out any delusion that the Democratic Party could be reasoned with, replaced by the recognition of the sheer evil being propagated. 

Yesterday John F. Di Leo posted this piece, Blood, Tears, and Lessons in a Minneapolis Church, saying:

It's time to look more closely at the relationship between transgenderism and mass shootings.......There are many issues that the mainstream media avoid covering at all costs, not because they don’t have the ability, but because they don’t have the desire.  One of the most disturbing is a reticence to cover the confluence of mass shootings and the transgender population. 

Jason James Barry in his article,  The eerie familiarity of the Minneapolis church school shooting, says:

This horrible news makes one think with a shudder of the ‘other’ shooting that happened not so long ago......... So much now is in common with the “other” church school shooting — the one two years ago in Nashville, by a female shooter who changed her name from Audrey to Aiden.  A picture begins to take shape, one of transgenderism and church school hate, that none of us should look away from.  There is an issue at hand here, in this combination, that we cannot afford to conceal or otherwise closet away. ............

And here's the important part that I see playing out from the left, including the Mayor of Minneapolis:

 Yet progressives will say, “It's too bad that the two children were killed and the 17 others injured, but what really matters is that we don’t misgender the mass shooter! That would be immoral, especially posthumously! Speaking of mental illness.

Eric Utter published this piece yesterday,  Christians slaughtered in Minneapolis … you know the rest, saying:
 
Evil defeated tolerance again yesterday, in George Floyd’s Minneapolis.......... Of course, the mainstream media will use this tragedy to lobby for the repeal of our Second Amendment rights, though this slaughter could’ve been mitigated or potentially even prevented had one of the adults in the Annunciation Church and Catholic School had a firearm of their own and the requisite courage to use it to defend the innocent. But of course these mass killings keep happening at soft targets, places where guns are banned from the premises.  Tragic coincidence, huh?........
 
Democrats are hell-bent … on cornering the market for mental illness............ trans violence has become an epidemic. .....Even though, for the most part, they have been welcomed and feted as a part of the LGBTQ community (PRIDE!), deep down most realize that their assertions about who they are are at odds with religious teaching … and reality. 
 
And so they lash out in unspeakable ways, to punish others for their beliefs. They need help, not validation. One cannot validate a lie. And trying to do so isn’t compassion, it is malice...

Yesterday Jack Cashill published this piece on his Substack site, School Shooter's Only Sane Thoughts Were on Gun Control, saying "Robin" Westman didn't need a psychiatrists, he needed an exorcist.

He went on to say that at the church he attends that is the kind of traditional Catholic Church the FBI designated as a breeding ground for domestic terrorists years ago, there are two large men who sit outside, armed and ready.  Why are they there? Because it has become necessary to protect the churches from lunatics, all of which have been leftist lunatics, and these lunatics are cowards who are never so crazy they challenge hard men with guns.  Cashill concluded saying what most believers think; the Westman's of the world offer evidence of demonic influence running amok. 

He went on to cite Westman's irrational and hate filled journal, which I find mind boggling as it seems all these misfits are driven to write journals in order to preserve their warped views for posterity.  As it turned out he made a study of mass killings noting how these cowardly mass shooters love places they know where no one is armed.  

Let me repeat that.   

Mass shooters choose public places where they know no one is armed, except them, citing  James Holmes shooting at the Aurora theatre.  They love schools and churches because they know there's no protection for those worshipers, the children and the teachers.  Here's what Westman also wrote in his journal, which I've picked up from an number of articles:

  1. Criminals with intentions are not going to follow rules.
  2. That’s why I and many others like schools so much. At least for me, I am focused on them.
  3. I want a better society. I hate fascism. I hate inequality.
  4. I also love when kids get shot, I love to see death told real.
  5.  If I will carry out a racially motivated attack, it would be most likely against filthy Zionist Jews.
  6. Free Palestine
  7. I hate those entitled, penny-sniffing k**es.
  8. Kill Donald Trump
  9. Israel must fall
  10. Nuke India
  11. Where is your God?
  12. For the children

Demented, contradictory, irrational, yes, but many of these views are the kind of things the left has been promoting worldwide, and what are the Democrats really worried about?  The well-being of transgender people.  

After Transgender Church Massacre, Minneapolis Mayor Urges Rallying for “Trans Community” - I guess they really are the new Muslims.  To paraphrase Norm MacDonald, “what terrifies me is if a transgender gunman were to open fire on a church and shoot a bunch of kids, imagine the backlash against transgenders?” After Robert ‘Robin’ Westman, yet another transgender mass shooter, opened fire on a Catholic church, killing two children and wounding over a dozen more, Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey rallied for the “trans community.”............

Trans Control Now - Forget thoughts and prayers, stop grooming future trans killers.  After Robert ‘Robin’ Westman shot up a Minneapolis church, local authorities and law enforcement refused to discuss the transgender child murderer’s motive, but instead spent a lot of time prattling about the weapon as if the rifle had climbed off the shelf and then opened fire........... 

Some years back, Maya ‘Alex’ McKinney, who was 16 at the time and was being ‘transitioned’ from the time she was 11, opened fire at a Colorado school. Like Hale, who had been in various forms of therapy since she was 6 years old, the experiment finally ended in blood and horror........

Much like with Islamic terrorism, rather than deal with what’s going on behind the scenes to operationalize these attacks, politicians hide behind portraying a ‘community’ facing ‘hate’. It’s dishonest and people can see through it............

At Schools Across America, the Trans Agenda Marches On - A trans gunman’s unhinged violence is merely one symptom of the madness...........Nor is Westman the first transgender criminal to channel his mental health struggles into mass violence.  Libs of TikTok highlighted the disturbing pattern, posting on X:

Are you starting to see a pattern here? IT’S AN EPIDEMIC.”.........

What I see here are once sweet baby children that grew up to become a seriously troubled souls, and have no doubt Westman and all these others suffered from seriously troubled minds.  Minds that became warped feeding on an unending diet of lies, racism, antisemitism, and anti-Christian rhetoric of the left, with Westman even hating himself for what he'd become ending his own life.  No matter what pontifications the left may come up with, one can only conclude Westman was one of theirs, and his actions condemns them and all they promote.  

He did say one thing that's absolutely true.  "Criminals don't play by the rules", and that's why they prey on the weak and defenseless!  Why is that so hard to understand?

Minneapolis: When radical socialist Dems are in charge

The Minneapolis City Council has 13 members representing the city’s wards. Twelve are members of Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party (DFL), and one is an independent democratic socialist with Democratic Socialists of America (DSA). Three of the 13 members identify with both parties.

In March, the Minneapolis City Council passed new labor regulations that now requires ride-sharing companies to greatly increase the amount they pay drivers using their apps. The council’s goal was for the employees to earn a living minimum wage; however, Uber and Lyft drivers are NOT employees.

Besides, as has been debated in California and elsewhere, shouldn’t the marketplace determine wages?

Both Uber and Lyft warned the Minneapolis city council that they would leave if this measure was passed. Of course, radical socialist Democrats never see beyond their radical socialist agenda and the measure passed. Almost immediately, Uber and Lyft gave notice that they would be terminating their services in Minneapolis effective in May.

As radical socialist Democrats do, the city council then proposed spending $150,000 of taxpayer money to help finance smaller ride-share companies to replace Uber and Lyft. Due to the backlash, the far-left (as in they will fall over if they lean anymore to the left) changed the start date to July 1 in the whimsical hope there will be alternatives in place when Uber and Lyft leave.

Do you think these small ride-share companies will be able to do the job that Uber and Lyft had been doing?
Do you think all the unemployed Uber and Lyft drivers will be happy?
Do you think all the citizens who relied on Uber and Lyft to get around will be happy? 

Can you name one major city in America they're not turned into economic disasters and crime ridden sewers?

The Minneapolis Effect: When Urban Policing Falls, Murder Soars

New statistical evidence supports what common sense showed all along.

Call it the Minneapolis Effect. Call it the Ferguson Effect. Either way, it takes nothing more than a little logical reasoning to see that when urban policing falls, murder soars. It’s a fairly simple equation that doesn’t require a genius to figure out – yet still the left-wing media have sought to discredit the theory for years. The statistical evidence is in, however, and it shows precisely what folks with actual common sense knew all along.

Murder in the Big Apple

On July 11, the journal Police Practice and Research published an article by Dae-Young Kim, associate professor of criminal justice at SUNY Buffalo State, in which he revealed how different types of homicide increased in 2020. His title asked: “Did De-policing contribute to the 2020 homicide spikes?” Breaking down New York City homicides into six categories, the article revealed an answer.

Kim organized Big Apple murders into the following groups: Gun, Non-gun, Domestic, Non-domestic, Gang, and Non-gang. He examined how each subset changed in the wake of a significant reduction in NYPD stops, which fell from 13,453 in 2019 to just 8,375 in 2020 – a 30% reduction. According to Kim, the change in proactive policing led to an increase in three of the categories – and it is not hard to guess which ones simply by looking at the list.

Gun, non-domestic, and gang-related homicides surged in the era of reduced policing, a direct relationship that seems to disappear when one examines the data from before the decrease in pedestrian stops. But of course. What effect would the level of policing on the street have on domestic violence and crimes of passion? A fear of the consequences suggests at least some level of premeditation. Gang violence, however, certainly makes sense in this context. It’s the gang members and others out walking the streets or driving around armed and looking for a criminal opportunity who would be the most impacted by officers stopping suspicious-looking people and checking them out. So it stands to reason that, when the police cut back on stops, this specific set of criminals would feel emboldened. When the cat is away, the mouse will play, as the saying goes.

Ferguson or Minneapolis – Pick Your Poison

Paul Cassell, a professor at S.J. Quinney College of Law at the University of Utah, coined the term Minneapolis Effect back in 2021 to explain the spike in certain types of homicides during 2020 – especially among major urban areas. Out in the country, where fewer gangs operate and more everyday citizens go about armed, the relationship between police presence and violent crime is far less direct. In urban areas, however, people have been conditioned to rely on the police to protect them – and, more importantly, the criminals have been conditioned to fear only the police and rival criminals, not their intended victims. Cassell’s hypothesis was that de-policing after the George Floyd protests was to blame for the increase in murder within the major cities.

Even earlier, however, we had the Ferguson Effect. According to this theory, urban officers reduced their proactive policing for fear of public scrutiny on law enforcement after a white police officer shot and killed Michael Brown – a black teen – in Ferguson, MO, resulting in multiple waves of rioting over the next year. According to this hypothesis, the decreased policing – and perhaps the increased public hostility toward law enforcement – caused violent crime to increase in big cities around the nation.

Though the left-wing media tried to debunk both theories, the evidence was hard to write off entirely. A 2016 Pew Research Center survey of 8,000 officers from departments with at least 100 officers showed that about three-quarters polled said they were hesitant to use force, even when appropriate, and were less willing to stop and question suspicious people – and a whopping 93% of the cops said they were more concerned about their own safety than before.

Then there are the murder statistics revealed in Kim’s research – they certainly seem to point to Cassell’s Minneapolis Effect. Even far-left media outlets eventually were forced to admit that decreased policing seemed to result in more crime. So, the evidence would suggest that defunding the police – at least in the big cities – did not, as the ACLU famously averred in 2020, “make us safer.” But then, a good many Americans could have predicted that.

Chicago’s Downward Spiral

It’s not easy to identify America’s worst-governed city. You can make a case for jurisdictions such as San Francisco, Detroit, New York City, Minneapolis, or Seattle.

 

For what it’s worth, there is statistical research from last decade showing places like New York and Los Angeles are among the worst of the worst, but I wonder if Chicago actually deserves top billing

There are many reasons to criticize the Windy City. Crime is rampant, taxes are excessive, and schools are terrible.

And, to make matters worse, Chicago is in America’s worst-governed state (at least based on my poll, which is not scientific but is probably accurate).

I already wrote once about bad public policy in Chicago. Today’s column is going to show that things are getting even worse.

I’ve written about how taxpayers are fleeing poorly governed states. Well, they’re also fleeing poorly governed cities. And the AP reports that Chicago is a popular place for companies…to leave.


The Chicago area saw an exodus of corporate headquarters in 2022, including investment firm Citadel, which moved to Miami along with its billionaire founder, Ken Griffin; Caterpillar, which relocated from north suburban Deerfield to Irving, Texas; and aerospace giant Boeing, which moved to Arlington, Virginia, after more than 20 years in the West Loop. The most recent high-profile departure was announced in November, when Lake Forest-based auto parts manufacturer Tenneco said it was shifting its headquarters to Michigan. …vacancy rates in the central business district rose to 19.6%, while the Chicago metro ticked up to 21.8%… Meanwhile, Citadel principals and employees generated billions of dollars in tax revenue for the city and state over the past decade, according to the firm, money that has also headed south.

And why are businesses escaping?

As Adam Schuster explained last October in National Review, the city’s economic management is getting worse.


Can anything be done to save the financial future of one of America’s largest and best cities? …Let’s go through the numbers. The business community is right that a property-tax increase is unnecessary considering the $3.5 billion in pandemic-related federal aid. ..The property-tax hike could be prevented by using just 2.5 percent of Chicago’s $1.9 billion in American Rescue Plan funding. But instead of using the aid to prevent tax hikes that would impede Chicago’s economic recovery, the city has proposed to use those billions to create new programs. The mayor’s proposed budget increases spending by roughly $1.2 billion… Unfortunately, that spending is propped up by one-time federal aid that expires by 2024 — meaning many programs will have to be…financed with significant tax hikes within just two years. And about those pensions: Pension costs will consume more than $2.3 billion of the city’s budget, or 21.4 percent of its own source revenue, excluding state and federal grants. That’s more than a $967 million increase in pension spending since Lightfoot became mayor and $461 million more than last year alone.

In other words, the city is trying to raise taxes today while also making decisions (especially regarding unfunded pensions) that will almost surely mean additional tax increases in the future.

No wonder people and business are fleeing the state and the city.

P.S. To make matters worse, Chicago still has major problems with corruption.

P.P.S. My long-run fear is that politicians in DC will provide bailouts for profligate cities and states.

Race-Based Layoff Scheme at Minneapolis School, Minneapolis schools will lay off white teachers first, violating the Constitution and Title VII

The Minneapolis Public Schools have adopted a race-based layoff provision that violates the Constitution and Title VII of the Civil Rights Act. “A Minneapolis teachers union contract stipulates that white teachers will be laid off or reassigned before “educators of color” in the event Minneapolis Public Schools (MPS) needs to reduce staff,” reports Alpha News:

After the Minneapolis Federation of Teachers (MFT) and MPS struck a deal on March 25 to end a 14-day teacher strike, the two sides drew up and ratified a new collective bargaining agreement complete with various proposals.

One of the proposals dealt with “educators of color protections.” The agreement states that if a non-white teacher is subject to excess, MPS must excess a white teacher with the “next least” seniority.

“Starting with the Spring 2023 Budget Tie-Out Cycle, if excessing a teacher who is a member of a population underrepresented among licensed teachers in the site, the District shall excess the next least senior teacher, who is not a member of an underrepresented population,” the agreement reads.

This violates a well-known Supreme Court decision overturning the race-based layoff of a white teacher, and contradicts a well-known federal appeals court decision, which ruled that race-based layoffs of white teachers violate Title VII of the Civil Rights Act.........

The deceased criminal suspect, Winston Boogie Smith, whom some Minneapolis residents rioted and looted on behalf of Thursday evening, turns out to have been a convicted felon, habitual criminal and woman beater  “Smith’s criminal record includes 20 convictions, mostly for minor traffic and parking violations, plus three marijuana charges — and [an] aggravated robbery conviction in which his ex-girlfriend was beaten until her face was swollen and bloody, court documents show,” Fox News confirmed Friday.

Smith was fatally shot by U.S. Marshals on Thursday after he reportedly fired his gun on them while being arrested for an open warrant related to a case involving the illegal possession of a gun. As a convicted felon, he was not allowed to own one.

“Court records show the warrant was issued after Smith failed to appear for sentencing May 19 in Ramsey County District Court. He had been charged with two felonies in November 2019 when officers found him at a White Bear Lake apartment with a loaded handgun in his car,” according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Initial reports claimed he’d merely drawn his weapon during Thursday’s encounter. However, the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension issued a statement to the Post-Dispatch confirming that he’d outright opened fire.........After the shooting, rioting and looting by Black Lives Matter extremists erupted in Minneapolis, a “call for justice” for Smith began trending on social media...........As previously reported, there have been no similar “calls for justice” for 9-year-old Trinity Ottoson-Smith and 6-year-old Aniya Allen, both of whom were killed after being shot by criminals just like Smith. Nor has there been any “calls for justice” for Ladavionne Garrett Jr., who remains in critical condition after having been shot in the head in late May while sitting in the back seat of his parents’ car. Joe Biden’s Justice Department wants to keep Richard Barnett in jail—indefinitely.  The Arkansas man, photographed showboating inside House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s office on January 6, has been behind bars for more than three months. Barnett occupied Pelosi’s office for six whole minutes; he absconded with a piece of mail and left her a note that read “Nancy, Bigo was here, you Bitch.”

The desk belonged to a Pelosi aide, not the speaker herself. Several reporters and photographers who also happened to be in Pelosi’s office at the very same time prompted Barnett to sit at the desk and “act natural” as they took a series of photos.........

Judge Beryl Howell sided with the Justice Department and ordered Barnett, a retired firefighter with no criminal record, transported to Washington, D.C. where he remains incarcerated awaiting trial next month. (He is one of more than three dozen Capitol protesters denied bail and currently held in solitary confinement conditions at the D.C. Correctional Treatment Facility. My Take - So, governments release criminals convicted of very real, and very serious crimes, because of the coronavirus, and imprison people who've committed no crime without bail.  Did I get that right?  Now, how could anyone find fault with that.

Minneapolis to spend $6.4 million to hire more police

Defund the police!!! Oh no, pay more to hire more police!! ROFLMAO!! This is so hilarious and pathetic!!!  The inevitable and obvious result of what these people have done, and it was clear from the get go this is what would happen.  Talk about a gross dereliction of duty on the part of elected officials!!

Cornered murder suspect kills himself; mob accuses police of killing him and sets off looting downtown Minneapolis

Last night offered a warp speed example of mob violence triggered by utterly bogus charges of police misbehavior resulting in the sack of the premier shopping district of a major American city. The disgraceful incident happened in Minneapolis, where I grew up, and there is a personal connection to one of the targets of the phony outrage that I will explain below.

The incident began just after 6 PM, when a murder suspect killed himself rather than be apprehended by police. The incident was captured on surveillance cameras which the police quickly shared with local news outlets. Journalist Assaulted While Covering Minneapolis Protest: ‘It’s Not Going to Go Well for You’

A journalist for Alpha News was harassed and assaulted Monday night while covering a Black Lives Matter protest in downtown Minneapolis.  Rebecca Brannon, an independent journalist who contributes video and photo stories for Alpha News, was identified by several agitators who recognized her from her coverage of previous events. The group then proceeded to follow Brannon as she walked to her car, shouted profanities at her, and eventually assaulted her.

“Get the f—k out of here! You’re not welcome here,” the group of demonstrators shouted at Brannon, who attempted to explain that she didn’t need to leave because she was on a public sidewalk.  “I think you need to go. It’s not going to go well for you,” added one man who was walking with the perpetrators.  The agitators later stole Brannon’s phone from her and tossed it into a fountain.

Although her phone was destroyed, she was able to recover video of the altercation from the phone’s SD card.

When are Local and State Governments Illegitimate?

Watching “Tucker Carlson Tonight” on Monday night, my stomach turned and heart sank.  Carlson ran video footage of a couple in Portland being dragged from their pickup truck and beaten.  Their sin: their whiteness.  The culprits, BLM thugs.

There were no police to intervene.  Portland police, like Seattle and Minneapolis police, are practically neutered.  Police are hamstrung, defunded, and demoralized in these cities.  Many have handed in their notices.  National Guard deployments are verboten.  Curfews are nonexistent.  The human excrement that pummels innocents to within inches of their lives are ghouls prowling the night.  They’d come for us, if they could. 

This descent into hell is enabled by so-called progressive Democrats in the aforesaid cities and Minneapolis, Chicago, New York, and wherever next.

The progressives have names:
  • Ted Wheeler, 
  • Jenny Durkan, 
  • Jacob Frey -- 
all mayors -- along with numerous council members. And governors,
  •  Kate Brown, 
  • Jay Inslee, and 
  • Tim Walz.  
  • Add Lori Lightfoot, 
  • J.B. Pritzker, 
  • Bill de Blasio, 
  • and Andrew Cuomo to the roster.
All -- all -- have taken oaths of office to uphold the law and attend to the public safety.  They are glaringly derelict in their duties. These elected leaders aren’t simply craven, they’re complicit in the violence and destruction that bedevils their cities. 
  • They see the mobs in the streets.
  • They witness the destruction.
  • They are apprised of the violence.
  • They know innocents are being harmed.
  • They know citizens cower behind locked doors.
  • They know -- know – that the least among their constituents are the most vulnerable to the predation. Yet they permit the mayhem.
  • They let the mobs roam.
  • They fiddle as their cities burn.
These elected leaders are, in fact, aiding and abetting insurrections.  Their inactions are actions.  They hate America, the America of the founding, the America of liberty and the rule of law.  They learned to detest the nation growing up in “progressive” households and on college campuses.  What other conclusions can we draw?  Today, we finally know: scratch a progressive and you uncover a revolutionary...........

Let’s turn to the Declaration of Independence for guidance.
That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness. Minneapolis Residents Agreed Not to Call the Cops, Then the Rapes Began

Last month, the New York Times brought its readers the heartwarming story of the Powderhorn neighborhood in Minneapolis whose residents had decided not to call the police.

"If you are a comfortable white person asking to dismantle the police I invite you to reflect: are you willing to stick with it?" Minneapolis City Council President Lisa Bender had demanded. "Will you be calling in three months to ask about garage break-ins? Are you willing to dismantle white supremacy in all systems, including a new system?"

Powderhorn residents had taken that message to heart and refused to call the police.

A few days later, a “juvenile” girl was assaulted. The Associated Press reported that, “the people who took the victim to the hospital did not call police.”

By July, the encampment had grown to 800 people and 3 sexual assaults.

The oppressive system of “white supremacy” was being dismantled one rape at a time.


The Powderhorn Park encampment really took off when the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board of Commissioners declared that the city's parks were now "sanctuaries" for anyone who wanted to live in them. The resolution cited Governor Walz's declaration of a "peacetime emergency" which banned removing homeless people from anywhere they wanted to be.

Since then, 38 more Minneapolis parks have been turned into tent cities, and of these, Powderhorn Park is the worst. The park version of CHAZ began with the Black Lives Matter riots after George Floyd’s death when the Sheraton Minneapolis Midtown Hotel was taken over, renamed the Sanctuary Hotel, and filled with homeless vagrants by lefty activists.

"This is a means of land repatriation. This is a means of addressing historic deep disparities," one of the lefty activists declared.

The Sheraton was being repatriated from its Indian-American owner by indigenous white lefties and the minority hotel owner had been “confronted with the alternative of evacuating his hotel and having it possibly burned down.”

The lefties quickly grew bored or frightened as the former Sheraton was overrun with “rampant drug use and sales”, piles of garbage and overdoses. There were fights, drug deals, and even a fire in one room. The hotel was cleared and the encampments headed to Powderhorn.

So did the drug dealing, the overdoses, the violence, and the sexual assaults.

Two girls and one woman have been assaulted. But an activist insisted that rapes, “can happen in any park."

And two underage girls being assaulted in a park can happen at any time. So can a man tracking down a woman, after previously assaulting her because he thought she was hiding heroin from him, and groping her while pointing a knife at her. And fights with crowbars and hatchets can break out at any time, in any park, once you get rid of the police.

But, even though it reinforced white supremacy, someone called 911. This wasn’t that unusual, because 911 calls had tripled.

Despite Lisa Bender, some people weren’t checking their privilege and were calling the cops. And the park police were dealing with "assaults with blunt objects, a fentanyl overdose, and someone being chased by others with guns and baseball bats."

Those are the sorts of things that could happen in any park… occupied by junkies.

Minneapolis officials have been steadily denying that dumping hundreds of vagrants in the park could possibly lead to crime.

“When we talk about crimes that happen here, these are not new crimes,” Minneapolis Park Board Commissioner AK Hassan insisted. As a Somali immigrant, he claimed that he won't vote to evict anyone. “Let’s not find excuses.”

Hassan, a Rep. Ilhan Omar ally, had praised the vote to defund the police as an "opportunity to reimagine how we approach public safety, not only for our city but the entire country."

The reimagining is underway in Powderhorn Park.

"It feels like something really bad is about to happen every second of the day. And you don't know what it is. And so every explosion, whether it's a firework or a gunshot or someone screaming or whatever, you just - I feel chest pain constantly now," Angelina Roslik, a local resident who works as a waitress, told NPR.

Minneapolis’ Democrat leaders have reimagined public safety as utter terror.

“When you have two juvenile females raped, an adult female raped, domestic violence with a knife and the suspect has an arrest warrant for sexual assault, you have a problem in that park," a former Minneapolis police officer noted.

In response to the spiraling violence at Powderhorn Park, Commissioner Londel French urged people to get to know the vagrants and junkies. “There are some real issues about sanctuary, and I think the way we fix those issues are by having conversations with not only the neighbors and homeowners who live around Powderhorn, but some of the residents of the sanctuary and come up with some solutions to some of the issues that we’re having.”

These hypothetical conversations could involve the drug dealing, prostitution, needles, stolen cars, bodily fluids, and other benefits of having a homeless encampment next door.

French, a Bernie Sanders supporter, had run for office, vowing that he would use the Park Police to test out “new ideas for how policing can engage our communities. Specifically, I will work to ensure that the Minneapolis Park Police to use methods of restorative justice.”

It’s unclear how much the two raped girls are benefiting from French’s restorative justice.

The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board had voted to cut ties with the Minneapolis Police Department, and banned Park Police from responding to non-violent police calls. It began designing a new green uniform for park cops even as it turned the parks into violent hellholes.

And the 33 officers of the Park Police, who don't have their new green uniforms yet, are in charge of the crisis. But 33 officers are no match for hundreds of junkies and criminals.

In one day, the Park Police dealt with a sexual assault and a fight over a stolen bicycle that was nearly settled with a hatchet. Another day saw a fight with a crowbar over a tent.

“The Park Board has a small enough police force that we can actually make some real change,” French had vowed. “If we don’t do it the right way, our communities burn.”

A Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board report noted that that, "MPRB staff are encountering unsafe situations in the evening with locking up the bathrooms" and the portable restroom provider announced that it wants police to be there when its employees service the bathrooms because "encampment residents are going through their vehicles."

If the lefty activists want to defund the police, they’ll have to be the ones fixing the toilets.

Not that it matters because the reports also mentioned high concentrations of “biohazards”.

You too can experience the brave new future of public safety. Just stop by Powderhorn Park. Try not to step on the needles, don’t make eye contact with the junkies, and be ready to run.

And remember, it’s not just public safety in Minneapolis that the Democrats are reimagining.

As Hassan said, it’s public safety in America.

Minneapolis vs. Capitalism

I recently speculated whether Seattle should be considered the worst-governed city in the country.  Though there’s lots of competition for that honor from places like San Francisco, Detroit, New York City, and Chicago. And John Stossel makes a compelling case for Minneapolis in this new video.


As I’ve previously noted, statist policies are never a good idea, but they’re especially foolish when adopted by local or state governments. Why? Because it’s relatively easy for productive people to escape bad policy by moving across borders. And that happens. A lot.

Yet the folks in Minnesota – at least if the anti-capitalism comments in the video are any indication – must not care whether the geese with the golden eggs fly away. To learn more, let’s take a look at the Washington Post story referenced in the Stossel video. Authored by Tracy Jan, it looks at all the big-government policies imposed by local and state government.
The Twin Cities…and…progressive policies… Taxes, for decades, have been redistributed from wealthy suburbs to poorer communities to combat inequality — an effort bolstered in recent years by raising state income taxes on the rich. The result: more money for schools, affordable housing and social services in lower-income neighborhoods. …Minnesota’s progressive reputation was cemented nearly five decades ago…
Gov. Wendell Anderson…worked with the Republican-controlled legislature to pass…a redistributive tax policy introduced in 1971 that required wealthy communities in the Twin Cities region to share their commercial property tax revenue with the poorest areas. Income and sales tax revenue from rich suburbs across the state also was shared with less-affluent cities and rural communities to fund schools, police and housing. …It would be the beginning of a suite of policies that over subsequent decades increased investments in housing, schools and small businesses in disadvantaged communities.
…more state aid poured into poor communities in 2013, when then-Gov. Mark Dayton raised taxes on the wealthiest Minnesotans. The Democrat…campaigned to “Tax the Rich!” — saying everyone should pay their “fair share” to keep society “functional.” The income tax rate, already fairly high for top income earners compared with other states, increased from 7.85 percent to 9.85 percent for individuals making more than $150,000.
I fully agree with Stossel that the story’s headline is hopelessly biased, though that’s usually the fault of editors rather than reporters. But let’s set that aside and focus on the details in the report. What conclusions are warranted? The reporter can’t resist making a silly assertion that growth isn’t part of the solution (she’s obviously not familiar with Census Bureau data).
Those enduring disparities…highlight the flawed premise…that economic prosperity is a remedy for racial inequality.
Though she does acknowledge that the mess in Minneapolis poses a challenge for the left’s argument that big government is the answer.
…progressive policies ha[ve] not translated into economic equality. Instead, the wealth gap between Minneapolis’s largely white population and the city’s black residents has deepened, producing some of the nation’s widest racial disparities in income, employment and homeownership. …
The shortcomings have given rise to an urgent debate about where Minneapolis went wrong and what measures would bring better results. …
The typical black family in the Twin Cities earned $39,851 in 2017, lower than the median income for African Americans nationally… A quarter of black households lived in poverty, five times the poverty rate for white households. …the outcome for black residents in Minneapolis and St. Paul…undercuts the liberal argument that spending on progressive policies can create systemic change. …
Black residents…are worse off today by some measures than they were 20 and 30 years ago, even as the fortunes of their white counterparts held steady or improved, according to census data. …Despite a slew of programs to help first-time home buyers, only a quarter of black residents in the Twin Cities own their homes…much lower than the national black homeownership rate of 42 percent.
I’ll make four points in response to this story.

First, there is no substitute for growth, and – as Stossel observed in the video, but as Ms. Tan doesn’t seem to appreciate – we shouldn’t care if some groups get rich faster than other groups.

Second, stronger growth not only explains why average living standards in the United States are higher than in other nations, but also why the average low-income person in America does better than the average middle class person in many other countries.

Third, the only effective and successful way to achieve long-run growth is with free markets and small government, but Minnesota doesn’t fare well in rankings of economic liberty (see here, here, and here) and Minneapolis scores poorly when cities are ranked.

Fourth, the redistribution programs from both local and state governments doubtlessly have trapped many poor residents in dependency, especially since there are high implicit marginal tax rates if they seek self-sufficiency and financial independence.

The bottom line is that Minneapolis has poor governance, as does the entire state of Minnesota, but the politicians will have to try harder to achieve worst-in-nation status.

Escape From Minneapolis

If Minneapolis City Council President Lisa Bender didn’t exist, Portlandia would have had to invent her.

After a degree from UC Berkeley, Bender worked for a New York City bike lobby, then did a stint in San Francisco, before she went back to Minneapolis to work for Minnesota’s DOT on bike lanes while running the Minneapolis Bicycle Coalition whose burning passion was putting bike lanes everywhere.

Militant bike activists are the dumbest and most loathed figures in urban civics. No group of people is as entitled, obnoxious, or clueless as a bunch of white hipsters in lycra shorts out to convince city officials that giving them more bike lanes will end wars, eliminate racism, and save the planet. There was only one possible career pathway for Bender in Minneapolis. Urban planning through politics as a DFLer.

Once in office, Bender began transforming entire streets into bike lanes. The plan was to have 60% of the residents of Minneapolis using bikes, walking, or taking the bus by 2030. Nobody bothered drawing up a budget for how much this plan would cost because that would have just rained on the parade.

Or rather snowed on it because Minneapolis gets an average of 100 days of snow.



Last year, Minneapolis bike advocates were whining because the police had been ordering them to stay out of the snow. One complained that he was angry that the cops might have terrified "my fellow cyclists and pedestrians who are less privileged than myself… who may have been much more frightened in these sort of interactions than my cismale, white, straight-presenting self."

The cismale rider was typical of Lisa Bender’s base of upscale hipsters renting condos in the ‘Wedge’.

Meanwhile Lisa Bender was being ticketed for not shoveling snow off her own sidewalk while telling everyone else to do it. In predictable fashion, she blamed the resulting scandal on sexism.

Despite Bender’s ambitions, the bike lanes were largely going unused. And, on top of that, the Minneapolis Bicycle Coalition, which had changed its name to Our Streets, opposed traffic enforcement because it was racist. And how do you keep cars out of bike lanes without traffic regulations?

But Lisa Bender and Mayor Jacob Frey, the student government that have become the laughingstocks of a nation and the death of a city, had a bigger vision for Minneapolis. They wanted it to be more like New York City with high urban density, lots of mixed-used buildings with families living on top of businesses, and people living in small cubes and pods, while biking to their favorite artisanal coffee shops.

Actually, maybe Bender and Frey didn’t want Minneapolis to be New York City, just a giant campus.

Minneapolis still isn’t a college campus, but it has the first student council to run a major city. Besides Bender, there’s Keith Ellison’s son, who describes himself as a "visual artist, storyteller, and political organizer", Phillipe Cunningham, whose bio is, "progressive, Black, queer & trans", Lisa Goodman, "activist and dog mom", and assorted other characters who ought to be debating at the student center.

Instead they’re determining the fate of a city and a country without having a clue about anything.

But it was the voters of Minneapolis who voted for DFL Democrats and let them trash their city because promised them a glorious future of bike lanes, diversity, and saving the planet.

Minneapolis had lots of older homes. Preservationists wanted them kept and remodeled. But the student council government running the city wanted them destroyed and replaced with glass boxes. Since there were still too many homes, Bender championed an end to single-family zoning and got her way. Now there was nothing standing in the way of her vision of turning Minneapolis into a campus.

Except reality.

Frey, Bender, and the rest of the aging college gang, were selling Minneapolis the same bill of goods that Buttigieg had sold South Bend, and that numerous other young and eager student council members had sold other declining cities, that with more bikes, glass boxes, and green energy, they would attract dot coms that would build their own versions of Facebook and Amazon in their cities generating billions.

If Bender was a character out of Portlandia, her enablers had sprung straight from South Park.

Nobody involved in this knew how anything worked. They just knew that they wanted young people with degrees from big bicoastal colleges to move back and turn Minneapolis into the future. Also, they wanted diversity, environmentalism, and lots of biking in a city where it snows 100 days of the year.

While Frey and Bender were trying to turn Minneapolis into a millennial sandbox, there were real problems closer to home. Bender’s own neighborhood, Lowry Hill East or the ‘Wedge’, was a white hipster enclave with rising crime. The regular muggings were perpetrated in the ‘Wedge’ by people from outside the neighborhood. The Lowry Hill East Neighborhood Association (LHENA) had coped with the problem in the past by getting off-duty MPD cops to patrol the neighborhood and fight crime.

This year, there was a spike in robberies. The rise in crime hit the Wedge, which was at the center of Bender’s vision of an influx of hipsters renting condos, while also attracting muggers and thieves. Once the riots began, things only got worse. Local communities turned vigilante and began blocking off streets while volunteers patrolled retail areas to deter looters.

Even before the Minneapolis student council government decided to defund the police, law enforcement had already been replaced, not because of Bender’s legislation, but because the city’s services had broken down, and it was not replaced by something new, but something very old.

In the aftermath, Bender is championing defunding the police. Just like all her other plans, she has no idea how to do it, but it’s a trendy lefty cause and without those, she would be working at Starbucks.

On social media and CNN, Bender has explained that the only way defunding the police will work is if people check their privilege and refuse to call the police when they’re being robbed or mugged. Some of the condo residents biking in the snow might go along with that, but most people aren’t going to do it. If there are no police, they will set up neighborhood watches and eventually those will be armed.

Minneapolis City Council members have claimed that policing is rooted in white supremacy. That’s the kind of dumb thing a freshman student would say in a social justice class. Law enforcement is how local governments provide security in a lawful manner. Remove the law enforcement and you also take away the law and the security. But there are older laws than those of Minneapolis and the United States.

Defund the police and some people will lose their property to looters while others will fight them. When there is no law enforcement, the only law that will matter is the law of force.

Frey, Bender, and their student council politics are ushering in Minneapolis’ Lord of the Flies. But that’s what happens when you put a student government and its campus politics in charge of a major city.

The good news is that Minneapolis is finally becoming more like New York City. And New York City is becoming more like Minneapolis. Civilization is collapsing in both of those cities in the same way. There will be glass box condos, feminist poetry readings in hipster bars, and lots of bike lanes everywhere. And when you need help, you don’t call the police, you call your neighbors or take matters into your own hands. When you defund the police, the people who lose out are the isolated and the weak. And we all lose because when the only law is that of force then civilization gives way to savagery.

Bike lanes are useless when you can’t leave the house and glass boxes are easy to break into.

Lisa Bender and her colleagues, who have more identity politics credentials than competence, promised to transform Minneapolis into a futuristic utopia of glass boxes, mass transit, bike lanes, environmentalism and diversity. Now, Minneapolis doesn’t need those things, if it ever needed them.

All Minneapolis needs is a way to stop people from killing and robbing each other in its streets.

It’s a good thing then that Bender and the rest of the council are defunding the police.

Journalist Lara Logan — who was sexually assaulted by a mob in Egypt in 2011 — slammed Minneapolis City Council President Lisa Bender for suggesting that concerns over criminals breaking into people's homes come "from a place of privilege. "

Monday where she discussed the council's pledge to "dismantle" the city's police department and replace it with a "transformative new model of public safety" in response to George Floyd's death late last month.

"I remember when I was being gang-raped & beaten by a mob in Egypt, would have been great to have a police force to call then," Logan tweeted in response to Bender. "Would that have been my white privilege talking?".........To Read More....

Minneapolis council president confirms it: Police will be 'dismantled' ​and replaced with a 'transformative new model of public safety'

Minneapolis City Council President Lisa Bender confirmed news Thursday night of the council's intentions to "dismantle" the city's police department in the aftermath of George Floyd's death and the resulting protests and riots that erupted across the country.

TheBlaze reported Thursday that several members on the council were seriously considering disbanding the police and putting a new form of public safety in its place. Now, given Bender's definitive statement on the matter, that action appears even more likely.

"Yes. We are going to dismantle the Minneapolis Police Department and replace it with a transformative new model of public safety," Bender wrote on Twitter in response to fellow council member Jeremiah Ellison.

Bender, who represents the city's Ward 10, did not go into specific detail regarding what exactly "the transformative new model of public safety" will look like in the tweet.

But on Friday morning, she retweeted a thread posted on Twitter by "Reclaim the Block," a local organization launched in 2018 that calls for divesting from the Minneapolis Police Department and reallocating funds into community health and safety programs..........To Read More....

My Take - So, there's going to be a "reallocate" funds from to police to "community health and safety programs"?   Of course there's are no such programs in existence so there's no way to determine just exactly what that means, who's going to get the money, and what they're going to do with that money. 

How can a city council "reallocate" funds for something they know nothing about?   No evaluation, no discussion, no program presentation.............and no brains.

If there ever was another system for leftist corruption and fraud with taxpayer money - this is it.  Oh, one more thing. I hope someone pays attention to how many actual taxpayers leave Minneapolis withing this next year.

Having said that, I think of the Canada Free Press defines this best regarding the, "Minneapolis Dismantling Police More Bluster Than Muster", saying:
Like all councils, the Minneapolis City Council was elected to fix the potholes and take out the garbage. But yesterday nine of the council’s 12 members appeared at a rally in a city park, trying to make folk believe that it’s all but over for the Minneapolis Blue Line...............As for Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, who New York Post reporter Miranda Devine calls a “half-price Justin Trudeau”? Well, it seems he’s very much a part of the Act.  “Minneapolis’ boy of a mayor, Jacob Frey, proves that no matter how much you abase yourself to the mob, you can never be woke enough. Minneapolis City Council Members Trying to Figure Out How to Disband the Police

After Abolish ICE, the new lefty slogan is, Defund the Police. Great plan there. The Left has rolled out all sorts of restorative justice garbage, but support for its pro-crime campaign, currently near universal by a populace that is mainlining the media faster than a heroin addict in Tijuana, will collapse once law and order collapses for good.
