What's Wrong With Canada?

For most of their existence Canadians have resented Americans, and given the conflicts involving the Revolution and the War of 1812, that creates a degree of understanding. But we speak the same language, and for decades shared cultural traits that were largely harmonious.  Their economy has always been tied to the American economy, and understandably so since America's economy is massive compared to Canada's, but at some point they seemed to think they were the big economic dog of North America and started acting in ways that are not in the best interests of Canadians.  

On July 16th Judi McLeod, the founder, owner and editor of Canada Free Press, published this piece, Living A Nightmare On Communist Canada’s East Coast saying:

Canada Free Press (CFP) is living a nightmare on Communist Canada’s East Coast having been driven out of Ontario, four years ago, when Premier Doug Ford threatened to freeze our meagre bank account for the government ‘crime’ of editorially supporting the Truckers Freedom Convoy.

 She went on to note a local called the police on them claiming they were driving drunk, locals glared at them at church, and locals "made it clear that they didn’t like Christians, or pro-American journalists", and they had the feeling of being stalked.  Now, I know that sounds looney, but I've been following her commentaries for years, and I've never seen evidence of lunacy in the past, and I don't think she's being a loon now. 

 Now a bit about Doug Ford, who she calls the laughable reincarnation of King George III and is under the impression he can "DISMANTLE the United States of America all on his own steam."   He's a blowhard with a 21% approval rating picking a fight can't win with someone who views him to be as irritating as a mild rash.  The articles goes on to say:

Across the border, savvy Sundance at Conservative Tree House, calls out Ford for the buffoon he really is.".....“Canadians are defining themselves by being hostile to America. This is their national identity now.” (Conservative Tree House, July 21, 2026)...... Ford is trying to ascribe to all Canadians a visceral hatred of America and its president, which is an absolute LIE!

I'm not so sure it's an "absolute lie", but I am sure of the resentment of Canadians is real and it impacts their choices for leadership and is altering their culture, especially their embrace of multiculturalism and the mass migration of Muslims into Canada.  This isn't the Canada that supported the escape of American diplomats out of Iran when Khomeini's thugs arrested them.

In Canada there is no conservative movement as we understand conservatism.  It's more like the RINO's of the Republican party, ...... liberal.... way liberal.  Currently they've chosen Mark Carney as their Prime Minister and his government is filled with what Judi calls smug, arrogant liberal PMs who care little for the suffering of the people of Canada noting that:

Many of them holdovers from the Justin Trudeau cabinet, they’re giddy with the kind of power that comes from knowing there is no possible out from the Liberal Party system that has tormented Canadians for most of their lifetimes. They don’t walk, they strut. The don’t debate, they lecture. They don’t talk, they shout, much of it in braggart style.

The media in Canada is like our Pravda media here in America, only worse since "the Canadian media was initially bought off and paid for with $600M—not including the annual $1.5 billion stipend paid to the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC)"

However, there's always a heterodox who doesn't fear being the rock in the current and unwilling to be one of Carney's myrmidons:

“In a lengthy post on X last week, my friend and fellow podcaster Ivor Cummins made plain that he believes Mark Carney has in effect been implementing the Cloward Piven strategy in real time and that before our eyes in Canada, he's using his position as prime minister to see to the hellish flowering of the anti-human agenda in all its dreadful glory."

He went on to explain the Canadian government was taken over by globalists whose real loyalty lies with the "World Economic Forum, the United Nations, the Bank for International Settlements, and the other unelected global institutions that aim to erase national sovereignty and individual freedom."  Many of these international institutions seem to think China epitomizes all that's good about government.  

They're "working to overload and bankrupt the system" with welfare and giving unlimited power to unelected bureaucrats.  The COVID lockdowns, mass spending, and free money to "8 million Canadians with no strings attached....costing 81 billion dollars" had nothing to do with good economics or public health.  It was "about creating permanent dependency......on government support", and more government control of every day lives.”  Sound familiar?

What's wrong with Canada?  After decades of  having leftist propaganda inculcated into their minds and their government's disastrous philosophical views and policy decisions......Just about everything.  A road America may well follow, having the privilege of living and working in a "worker's paradise", where unhappiness will not be tolerated.  You can have nothing, and you can starve, but you will be happy about it... or else!

Here's what's mind boggling.  After 237 years of economic, social and moral failure you'd think there couldn't possibly be a need to debate the value of socialism.   But knowledge, history, reality and deductive reasoning are the enemies of socialism. That was why starting in the late 19th century socialists infiltrated and slowly captured the system of education in the entirety of western civilization.   To prevent thinking impure thoughts, and that includes any refusing to publishing any written work from conservative writers.

In late July, a Canadian woman of Chinese descent was arrested in Belgium on serious charges of espionage for China while serving as an intern with the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). Canadian media have identified the woman as Biwei Zhang, also known professionally as Claire Zhang or Catina Zhang........

It is concerning because Canada is a member of the Five Eyes intelligence alliance, a longstanding partnership that also includes Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, and the United States. The alliance shares some of the world’s most sensitive intelligence, particularly signals intelligence (SIGINT), as well as information on foreign interference, cyber threats, espionage, and military developments. 

China is one of the primary targets of this collective effort. As Canada deepens economic and diplomatic ties with Beijing, despite clear evidence of screening failures and a pattern of prioritizing commercial interests, allies are entitled to ask whether Ottawa can still be trusted with the most sensitive intelligence.

Cloaked in tales of preventing shock therapy and abuse—actions which have long been illegal—these bans are passed, placing laws on the books which criminalize the outreach of the Gospel and defense of Biblical sexuality....... Not a single MP took issue that God’s design of sexuality was referred to in the legislation text as a “myth.” Nor did they even venture to examine the threat posed to religious liberty, which was questioned by virtually every other nation to consider such a ban.......
2. What’s the (free speech) deal with Canada? -  Canada is steadily transforming free expression from a right into a privilege — one that regulators, tribunals, and government officials can withdraw whenever they decide another interest matters more..... If you’re in America and smell something burning up north, it’s unfortunately not just the Canadian wildfires. In recent months, our hockey-mad friends have also been torching a number of its free speech protections — beginning with a legal shield that has been part of its law since 1970.......

Canadian Military Chaplains Can’t Mention God in Public -  While Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth seeks to make US military chaplains more explicitly religious, the Canadian government is heading in the opposite direction as new directives ban chaplains from using religious language at public events. Released on July 29, the instructions noted that members of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) making public remarks at any type of public or semi-public event “shall uphold the principle of state religious and spiritual neutrality by not using words, actions, or symbols that are specific to a particular SFT [Spiritual or Faith Tradition] on the part of the Government of Canada.”......

1.  Did Canada Just Sign Its Own Economic Death Warrant? -  The stakes are much higher than just a little trade war.  Canadian Prime Minister and WEF globalist Mark Carney has been a disaster for Canada since he entered office.  There were many critics who believed the Trudeau regime could not be topped in terms of self destructive behavior, but one could easily argue that Carney is far more dangerous and far more devious.  This week the Canadian government abandoned a nearly finalized trade deal with the US in the final hour of talks, leaving many analysts (and Canadians) bewildered.  According to U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer and related reports on the negotiations, the U.S. offered significant tariff reductions that would have given Canada preferential treatment relative to other major exporters......Remember, Mark Carney kisses the king’s ring. So what’s a billion given here when trillions are at stake?  The Arctic is the prize.

What’s really going on with Canada - The collapse of the last-minute trade negotiations between the United States and Canada appears to have been a calculated move designed, at least in part, to influence the U.S. electorate in the midterm election.   This recent move only needs to have a temporary effect: making Trump’s tariff policy look bad and, in turn, strengthening the Democrats’ newest message: “affordability.”  The resulting economic pressure on voters from multiple directions — including  spiking gas prices⁠ — could be used to turn public opinion against Trump and the Republican agenda, with the goal of helping Democrats win more seats in the midterm elections and ultimately regain control of Congress.......
2. Shock: Canadian Broadcasting Corp Tells Staff Not to Refer to 9/11 as ‘Terrorist Attack’ - The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) sent a memo to its reporters and editors this week instructing them not to refer to the September 11, 2001, attack on America as a “terrorist attack.   The memo, first reported by an astonished Warren Kinsella at the Toronto Sun, used boldface type to emphasize the directive to CBC employees......Kinsella reached out to CBC to ask for further insights on why “hijackings” that “led to passenger jet crashes” should not be treated as terrorism...... CBC claimed it was following in the footsteps of news organizations that have invented lively euphemisms for terrorists, such as “activists” or “militants.” The CBC guide also seemed to be using a dash of passive voice to whitewash the horror of 9/11, as if those passenger jet crashes were a force of nature, or an unexpected consequence of the crazy hijinks of the hijackers.....
3.  It’s Always Cute When Canada Thinks It Matters - Just what the hell are the Canadians thinking? Do they think that if they cry enough, America’s going to roll over? We’re now in another trade war with them, and the Canadians are whining, and the Democrats — who never side with America — are whining right along with them.  It’s about time to be done with the country that is touted as America’s best buddy but is actually tied for its most annoying next-door neighbor. They cry that America is being mean because it’s looking out for its own interests. How dare America expect Canada to pull its weight on its own defense? How dare America not want to perpetuate unfair and unbalanced tariff and trade rules in perpetuity? And how dare America not recognize the moral superiority of a country that, if it were a stereotype, would be a fugly, sexually dysfunctional wine woman with a “Hate Has No Home Here” sign on the front lawn of the condo it shares with five cats, all named after characters in "Twilight."........

Canada is no longer the same country it was on September 11, 2001, and its recent memo about that grim day shows how far Canada has fallen.  What in the world is going on in Canada? Sorry, but this is not the Canada we always associated with hockey and beautiful lakes for fishing. This new version of Canada is hard to understand. Sorry to say it again, but woke is killing the Canadians!  Let’s check this post from Warren Kinsella at The Toronto Sun. He got a memo from the CBC, which is the Canadian version of PBS/NPR, except with more .............“Do not refer to the Sept. 11 attacks as terrorist attacks.” Boshra states that all in bold letters, italicized, as if to emphasize the point. To make clear it is a directive, not a suggestion.

Notably, Canada is doubling its duties on US steel and aluminum to 50%, in line with the 50% tariffs the US had already imposed on Canadian steel and aluminum before the latest round of US tariffs. Carney Chose China — An interesting soundbite from Council on Foreign Relations (CFR) President Mike Froman who distills down the main point of contention.  Essentially, the U.S. position is to demand a common trade approach toward China and the U.S. delegation gave Canada an ultimatum within the deal proposed, us or them..............

Here's the analysis from another news source: 

The US makes up over 30% of total global consumer markets.  The entirety of the EU makes up around 15% of consumer markets and China makes up around 12%.  Together these regions still don’t fill the hole left by the US, and there are numerous expenses attached.

China regularly enforces tariffs on Canada, while shipping goods overseas to Europe or Asia adds price hikes to Canadian goods that would not be an issue in trade with the US.  Meaning, they will sell far less overseas.

Furthermore, Chinese trade deals tend to come with strings attached.  China is seeking economic and resource expansion into Canada, which is ruffling feathers among Canadian companies and citizens.  Beyond that, the CCP often demands influence over government policy within the smaller countries it partners with economically (Canada’s relationship with Taiwan has been a point of contention as the CCP exerts pressure)........

• Ontario’s Ford warns US power could be cut to 1.5 Mil Americans as he trades insults with Trump  - Ontario Premier Doug Ford on Monday threatened to cut the province’s power exports to the U.S. as a trade war with President Trump plays out publicly for a second time.  Ford told reporters “everything is on the table” when it comes to retaliatory measures against the White House in response to failed trade talks and heightened tariffs.......

• Canada Has Reopened Military Channel to Beijing After Eight Years, China's Defense Ministry Announces - Canada's military reopened a formal channel to China's People's Liberation Army last Friday for the first time in eight years, and Canadians have learned of it only from Beijing. China’s defence ministry says Canada and China revived their formal Defence Coordination Dialogue on September 4. Canadians have learned of the meeting not from their own government, but from a terse statement issued by Beijing..........The ministry said the two sides discussed international and regional issues and expressed a willingness to strengthen “practical exchanges and cooperation” between their militaries.

• Manufacturers Set To Move Production Out Of Canada As US Tariffs Hit Hard -  The circumstances of US/Canadian trade should be common knowledge by now, but the details often get mired in the swamp of political rhetoric.  When Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney describes the tariff issue as the US "waging war" on Canada, he knows exactly what he's doing.  Carney has turned a simple trade issue over reasonable 10% tariffs into an existential crisis, an invasion, an ethnic cleansing, a last stand against "evil" imperialists........Estimates in July on manufacturing losses indicated that 42% of Canadian companies (and some US companies) would be moving at least a portion of their operations to the US to avoid the debilitating tariffs. .......
• The European Union Just Invited Canada to Become Its First Associate Member  - Canada is turning away from the United States.  Just days after Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney floated the idea of a new “associate member” relationship with the European Union, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen was more than happy to entertain it. On Wednesday, she said she wants Canada to become the EU’s first associate member, even though Canada is not seeking full membership and no such formal status currently exists under EU law.

The details still have to be worked out, but the direction could not be any clearer. Carney wants Canada more tightly aligned with the European project: its trade rules, industrial strategy, climate agenda, technology policy and increasingly centralized political structure. It is a remarkable choice for a country whose economy, security and geography are typically understood as inseparable from the United States.......
