Boulder Colorado: The Consequences of Leftist Insanity

By A Man Called Task

When Colorado’s Governor Richard Lamn, during his tenure, loosened the residency requirements in Colorado he did so to increase diversity. Many of Colorado’s citizens were doing too well so in response poorer people were imported who did not speak English and also required tax payer funded support for shelter, food, education and medical care. In other words Governor Lamn balkanized Colorado with the express purpose of creating a population of secure dependent voters.

  • Boulder’s policy history is a case study in delusion. The city banned cooperation with ICE, instructed law enforcement to avoid immigration status questions, and turned its jails into revolving doors—no detainers, no holds, no questions asked......

That is why California is now a predictably blue state. It is why the same tactics are employed in the northeast and northwest by their respective Democratic governors and legislators. It is exactly what has also been attempted in Texas.

The methods used to politically turn red states blue represent proven strategies. The Biden Administration decided to operate totally illegally in its attempt to use proven strategies to turn the entire nation irretrievable blue with the expectation that never again would people have a chance to restore America by voting. In fact the 2022 governorship race in Arizona was so beleaguered by questionable voting tactics that it made Maduro’s reelection in Venezuela seem legitimate by comparison.

Once levers of power are put into place those looking to corrupt a system of government will figure out a way to gain control of those levers as was recently observed in California which, by itself, nearly wrested control of the House of Representatives that, fortunately, was still finally won but by only a fragile thin margin.

Every blue state has figured out ways to supply needed fraudulent ballots to advance their electoral numbers and electoral numbers was clearly foremost in the mind of Alejandro Mayorkas the Biden DHS border Czar.

Furthermore, Blue States are well versed in Cloward–Piven budget strategies and is why Elon Musk cannot fathom why his personal sacrifices barely made a dent in the “One Big Beautiful Bill”.   I can’t either and most hard working over taxed Americans also can’t considering who they voted for.

But then again a Republican form of government based on a democracy can’t quite make it as originally intended when the majority of the voting population represent recipients of over seventy percent of national budgetary expenses. Politicians realize that “One Big Beautiful Bloated Pork Filled Bill” will assure them that they can count on dependent, expectant, recipient voters to be reelected.

Aurora, Colorado: Who Will Answer?

By Rich Kozlovich

Recently there's been a lot of news about Tren de Aragua (TDA) an illegal immigrant gang from Venezuela, all heavily armed, who've taken over apartment buildings in Aurora, Colorado, forcing the tenants to give them their rent money.   And they're doing this in a state that has some of the most restrictive gun laws in the nation.

If that's true, and it is, how did these illegal aliens get these weapons? Here's what's true, when the government takes guns away from honest citizens, only the criminals, murders, thugs will be armed, and it's clear the police won't be able to handle it with the current anti police thinking from America's "leaders".  Then Americans will hand over their freedom to these leftist monsters and we'll accept tyranny in order to be "safe".  Then America will not be safe, or free.  Which is what these radical misfits want.

Well, this isn't just in Colorado, they're a group of thugs that were banded together by "President" of Venezuela Nicolas Maduro, and he lost control of them, and now they're an international criminal organization with headquarters in many places outside of Venezuela.  I'll tell you what, we'll come back to that.

America has no idea what's coming, but not all Americans are ignorant of the deadly consequences of the Democrat's immigration policies, or better yet to say their lack of immigration policies, where in some insane fashion they think they're going to be immune to the consequences of their insanity.

But before we move on to just how dangerous this is at a national level, let's first focus on Aurora, Colorado. I have a very conservative friend who retired to Colorado so I called him to ask his views.  Understand, Colorado is considered a blue state because the major cities are all filled with ex-California leftists who were escaping the insanity they created there, and are now imposing that same kind of insatiably in Colorado, turning it into a "sanctuary state".

Outside the major cities, the residents of the counties are, according to my friend, even more conservative than me.   At any rate after talking to him I realized this was a really convoluted mess with more to come, so I held off writing this piece.  Well, now it's here.

I noted in a previous piece the authorities were doing nothing about it and the governor wants everyone to ignore the videos showing what was going on.  The city accused the landlord of allowing his properties "to become trash-ridden, gang-infested hellhole", and how true that is may be debatable, but I was an exterminator for 40 years, and that's not as uncommon as you may think.

At any rate the landlord agreed to sell properties, apparently to avoid prosecution, but as important as that may be, all that obfuscates the fact the governmental authorities and the police refused to do anything about these gangs, including "Democrat Governor, Jared Polis" who claims this is all imaginary, "that is until an apartment resident filmed an armed gang breaking into a man’s apartment and the video went viral."

They knew about all this back in June, because the letters sent to them asking for authorities to do their jobs is now a matter of record, and they did nothing!  As for the trash buildup, it became so dangerous in these buildings the staff quit their jobs and there was no one left to clean up.  So, who's fault is that?

Finely, almost four months later the cops crack down on migrant apartment gangs and ICE confirms they’re illegal aliens, all admitted into America under the insane Biden-Harris administration policies.  And they arrest four..... four.... that's it?  Even when doing their jobs they're abject failures.

The question that I have to believe is on every Colorado resident's mind is what will be done about it in November?

Colorado residents clearly cannot trust their politicians to protect them. Democrat narratives, not public safety, are their priority. They are, for the moment, embarrassed into action, but the moment public attention moves on to other outrages narrative maintenance will once again be their priority.

Imagine the plight of residents of such an apartment complex. Constantly threatened by armed gangsters, they’re unsafe in their apartments, and in coming and going. Calling the police exposes them to danger, and Jurinsky explained unless the police can send four or more officers to calls there, they won’t come at all. Worse, the police must develop probable cause to make arrests for individual crimes, and witnesses are hard to come by. Making arrests may or may not result in bail, and prosecutors may or may not sustain appropriate charges. Judges may or may not impose serious sentences upon conviction.

Trust is lost when the rule of law is uncertain.

But this is the tip of the iceberg.  This same gang has taken over apartments in Dallas and Chicago, and the  Gateway Hotel in El Paso, and who are authorities blaming?  The owners.  In New York it's being reported there are over 400 Tren De Aragua Venezuelan gang members active in New York City.

All this was the totally predictable consequences of the Democrat created nightmare of open border polices.  A bloodbath of crime and corruption, and the enslavement  of women and children at the hands of traffickers.

Here's the incontrovertible moral truth and reality of all this. The Biden/Harris administration, the Democrats, RINO's, the Hollywood trash, academia, the media, and the billionaires who support them, all have the blood and the destroyed lives of innocents on their hands.  And I'm a firm believer someone is watching to call them to account.

Update, 12:45 PMLaw firm hired to investigate gang activity in Aurora, CO reveals unsettling details:

Through violence and intimidation, a Venezuelan gang took over the Whispering Pines apartment complex in Aurora and sought to collect up to half of the rent from leaseholders, drying up collections for the landlord, according to a law firm’s investigation.  At the behest of a lender, the international law firm Perkins Coie investigated the alleged criminal activities at Whispering Pines apartments, a 54-unit complex in Aurora, and outlined an operation that included establishing a ‘lower-level’ presence last year, which then escalated into violence and intimidation, the apparent goal of which was to turn the complex into a steady source of income for the gang.

The law firm said once the gang was entrenched at the complex, it used the units for illegal activities, including the prostitution of minors.  The gang, the law firm added, ‘operated in the open,’ patrolled the area and ‘terrorized the community.’

So what did that “lower-level” presence in Whispering Pines look like? Well, according to the same report, gang members issued death threats and menaced the property manager so badly, he later fled; at this point, they told the property’s employees that they were now “working for” TdA. Here’s more, regarding the specifics:

‘The evidence we have reviewed indicates that gang members are engaging in flagrant trespass violations, assaults and battery, human trafficking and sexual abuse of minors, unlawful firearms possession, extortion, and other criminal activities, often targeting vulnerable Venezuelan and other immigrant populations,’ Perkins Coie, the law firm representing U.S. Bank Trust Company, wrote on Aug. 9.

What about the media? Mainstream outlets told us to “ignore” what was merely a fantastical “tale” from President Trump...... Progressives and the media are one of the greatest enemies of the American public.

‘The gang’s modus operandi appears to be to unlawfully move gang members as well as vulnerable immigrant families into vacant units,’ the law firm wrote. ‘The gang also forces rent-paying residents out to create more open units and uses the apartments for purposes of illegal activities such as prostitution. In addition, the gang attempted to use threats of violence to extort the property manager into paying it some 50% of all rental income.’

Of course, none of this is surprising for one of the most notorious gangs in the Americas—it’s well known that human-trafficking is a huge money-maker, with global estimates of industry revenue totaling in the hundreds of billions of dollars.

Now, when the first video of the heavily armed Venezuelans went viral, the state governor Jared Polis attempted to gaslight concerned Americans, arguing that what we were seeing was all just a figment of an overactive “imagination” — I wonder what Polis would say now?

What about the media? Mainstream outlets told us to “ignore” what was merely a fantastical “tale” from President Trump........Progressives and the media are one of the greatest enemies of the American public.

Coming Attractions From Today's News

If a godless, communist thug comes to power in a country, chances are pretty good lots of people will get killed. These are principles that history has consistently verified............The Democrat hierarchy now is hard-core Marxists/Leftist, people with no conscience whatsoever, to which political power means everything. And they will stop at nothing to obtain it. - Mark Lewis

By Rich Kozlovich

Last week I posted this article,  Illegal Aliens, Gun Control, National Security, and Treason, and in that piece I discussed the take over of a number of apartment buildings by gangs of illegal aliens from Venezuela forcing the tenants to give them their rent money.  I noted in that piece the authorities were doing nothing about it and the governor wants everyone to ignore the videos showing what was going on.  In that piece I linked an article that stated:

Most Americans have no idea what’s coming when the invasion forces that have already penetrated and occupied America are given the “purge” activation order to exterminate and replace American citizens.

Well, not all Americans are ignorant of the deadly consequences of the Democrat's immigration policies, or better to say their lack of immigration policies, where in some insane fashion they think they're going to be immune to the consequences of their insanity.  This article appeared to day, Coming Soon to a Town Near You: The Aurora Illegals Invasion, saying:

Last week, armed Tren de Aragua (TDa) gang members,Illegal immigrants from Venezuela, pounded on apartment doors in Aurora, Colorado, and bullied residents. This problem may spread to communities across our nation because Democrat politicians have opened our southern border to criminal illegal aliens -- many have been flown in -- and they are going to set up residences and headquarters in many places.

Note:  This is now an international criminal gang created by Maduro for his political purposes and he lost control of them. RK

The article goes on to show the insanity of how this is being dealt with, and I gotta tell ya, this falls under the category of "you just can't make this stuff up".  In New York three out four arrested in Manhattan neighborhood are migrants, and on Monday's almost every court case is a migrant.  As for this international criminal Venezuelan gang, they're already in New York and tied to "hundreds of crimes, including the shootings of two NYPD cops who were trying to arrest a member in June."  If you like this, thank Biden, Kamala, and the criminal organization known as the Democrat party.

Remember, these enablers are the same nitwits that scream demonstrators on January 6th were insurrectionists, and have through judicial corruption abused these people's Constitutional rights.  Something that needs addressing at a criminal level if Trump is elected.  There are judges, prosecutors, and law enforcement officers who need to be brought to justice over this.  And I include the illegal Congressional January 6 Commission for the illegalities they perpetrated.

While the focus right now is on the upcoming national election, Jarrett James Lash notes American's faith in local government is strong, and local government still works.  First, I think that's debatable, especially in each and every one of America's major cities, which are a disaster now, but he states something I think is worth repeating.

"We would be better off investing more time and energy in school board and town council elections than fretting over who is on the presidential ticket."

Well, to a large degree, I agree.  If you can capture the base of the political structure, eventually the entire structure changes.

This whole thing about Trump at Arlington is badly backfiring on the Democrats, and it gets worse daily.  John McCain's son is outraged, outraged I tell you, claiming Trump, who was invited by the Gold Star families, was just there campaigning,  despite of the fact his dad did it.  Remarkable!  But the hits just keep right on coming, as it  turns out John McCain’s son may have violated military prohibitions against campaigning.

Wow! Kinda like Captain Renault, I'm shocked, shocked I tell you to find corruption in the McCain family! So, if all that's being said is true, it looks like the apple didn't fall very far away from the tree. Most people seemed to forget John McCain was considered the most reprehensible of the Keating Five in the Keating Savings and Loan Scandal. More about McCain is covered here, and here's my whole John McCain file, and it's not a pretty story.  So, as for being shocked...well....actually.....I not really shocked at all.

America's universities are out of control, and need to be purged of their leadership, and then purged of all these protestors, and defunded, and laws passed to prohibit funding from foreign sources.   But there's a trend I'm seeing, which I think is going to be more pronounced as we approach November, and that's, if you’re Jewish and you vote for Democrats, you’re crazy.

Who does Biden blame for Hamas murdering that American hostage?  Israel.  Since he can't blame covid any longer,  it must be the Jews, Christians, conservatives, Republicans, white supremacists, and Rumpelstiltskin.  Oh, wait, Rumpelstiltskin was a mythological character wasn't he?  So too is blaming others for the negative outcome of their stupid leftist policies mythological.  Blaming Jews for the vile murderous actions of Muslims, that's always been the fall back position for antisemites.    Sieg Heil!

The Pravda media just can't get it's act together.  CNN dumped Brian Stelter because CNN was going down the toilet, and it's getting worse daily as demonstrated by the fraudulent rigged interview with Kamala Harris and Tim Walz by Dana Bash.

So, what's their solution? They brought him back as their Chief Media Analyst.  What could possibly go wrong with brilliant leadership such as that.

I'm getting the impression the assassination attempt on Trump has given him a new lease on faith.  He now feels, and correctly so, Our Country Is ‘Missing a Lot of Religion’; ‘No Guard Rails’ Without It.  Also,  he may be taking a new tact on going after the big time political criminals, like Hillary. He made a huge mistake by not putting Hillary in jail, if he gets a second chance, he needs to take it, and he's inclined’ to release Epstein client list if reelected. Well, that should be a no brainer, as I wouldn't be surprised if many of his most virulent attackers are on that list.

Do I detect a pattern here?   Treason and spying in the midst of the Democrat hierarchy?

Another theme playing out is how well JD Vance is being accepted by Americans, on both sides of the aisle.  After at speech in Erie that went over so well he was asked where was his teleprompter.  He responded saying,  "Ma'am, I don't need a teleprompter. I've actually got thoughts in my head, unlike Kamala Harris." He also said, and this really is resonating:  "I'm here, and I've been given this incredible opportunity, and I'm going to try to make something of it, and the way to make something of it is to actually get out there and talk to people." It's believed this trip will be something talked about for weeks in Erie.

Finally.  For those of us who've written about the green movement we know....they lie... a lot.  Since we've had so much experience with their lies, most of us start out with the attitude everything they say is wrong, and all we have to do is develop the intellectual argument to show it. Most of what they say are either lies of commission, or lies of omission, with just enough truth to fool everyone, especially the Pravda media.... and I don' think they're fooled at all.  They're part of the corruption.  But time and truth are on the same side.  Here's another lie that's known and one they keep repeating.  Truth, facts, history, and reality are anathema to green activists.  We really do need to get that.

Illegal Aliens, Gun Control, National Security, and Treason

By Rich Kozlovich

Editor's Note:  I ran this on August 30, but so much more is happening and I've added some important additions, all of which I wish to highlight. RK

On August 29, 2024  Olivia Murray posted this article, Armed with heavy firepower, Venezuelan gang of illegals seizes control of entire apartment complex in Aurora, CO, containing a video showing these young thugs, here illegally, brandishing weapons doing whatever they pleased, and clearly having no fear about doing it.   And they're doing it in a state that has some of the most restrictive gun laws in the nation.

If that's true, and it is, how did these illegal aliens get these weapons?

One thing is clear, the argument by Second Amendment supporters that when guns are prohibited only criminals will have guns is blatantly true.  That has been obvious for so long it shouldn't have to be repeated, but the left still trumpets gun control, which for them ultimately means banning guns.  That is a foundational tenet of leftist ideology.   Why?

Because the "self-appointed morally superior left  is behind the tyrannies of multiculturalism", and leftists hate America, and Americans!

Overturning the Second Amendment puts honest citizens at the mercy of the state.  Then obedience follows, and soon there's tyranny with all the power being held by a smaller and smaller number of people in a very short time.

People who can no longer be voted out of office, just like Maduro in Venezuela.  And none dare call it treason any longer!  The ‘party of freedom’ has an odd view of what freedom means, and the Pravda media supports them.

She goes on to ask:

Is Aurora, Colorado home to our first official “no-go” zone? ......The video was shot in the building where Cindy and Edward Romero lived until Wednesday. FOX31 caught up with them as they loaded up their stuff and moved out.  ‘It’s been a nightmare and I can’t wait to get out of here,’ former resident Cindy Romero said......The Romeros say the trouble started when a large number of migrants began moving in.

How did this happen?

[M]ore than $380 million worth of Shelter and Services Program (SSP) grants will go to local and state governments, as well as NGOs, ‘that are providing critical support such as food, shelter, clothing, acute medical care, and transportation’ to migrants ‘recently released from DHS custody and awaiting their immigration court proceedings.’

This spending comes after Biden-Harris funneled $780 million just last year, and just through two channels (SSP and the Emergency Food and Shelter Program). How much spending is going on elsewhere? (Hint: It’s in the hundreds of billions.) Remember what Representative Jodey Arrington revealed earlier this year? From a Budget Committee press release:

‘The greatest national security threat to the American people is posed by these open borders. The social cost has consistently been well in front of the American people. But I don’t think we’ve talked enough about the financial burden to taxpayers and the fiscal impact.

The Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) has done a great job. Studies suggest this [illegal migrant] cost is upwards of $400 billion, but their cost estimate is $150 billion. The lion’s share of that cost is borne by state and local governments. State and local governments can't borrow or print money like the federal government, so they have to balance their budgets by either absorbing this cost through raising taxes or they have to cut services to their citizens.’

It's bad enough these illegal aliens are here in the first place, but they're not only eating up our resources, they're turning the nation into mini criminal states within the states and the federal government is funding it.

One commenter states, "we live in a bipolar world. Normal people want these thugs arrested and deported. Democrats want to make sure they’re registered to vote. It’s nuts." Democrats Are Freaking Out Over Republicans' Efforts to Stop Illegal Aliens From Voting

All of which was entirely predictable, and we really need to get this.  The Constitution wasn't meant to be a suicide pact, and the founding fathers never dreamed there would be a political party dedicated to the destruction of the nation.

Now we find out this is part of an international criminal gang that Venezuela's Maduro created.  This was in point of fact a military takeover of these apartments, so the question that needs to be asked and answered is where are the SWAT Teams, or the Colorado National Guard?  Apparently no one has called for them and the Mayor says he loves all these illegals.  I guess this is what "Tim Walz might just consider this “neighborly” behavior."

Update:  9/2/24: CO Mayor Asks for Eviction of Venezuelan Migrant Gang, Gov. Polis Dismisses Problem - Aurora, Colorado, officials are asking the courts to let them evict Venezuelan migrant gangs from apartment buildings, even as Democrat Gov. Jared Polis keeps dismissing video reports of gang takeovers.  Only two days ago, Polis and his spokespeople were telling Americans to ignore their lying eyes concerning video of armed migrant gangs taking over apartment buildings and forcing citizens to turn their rent money over to the gang.

Illegal Alien Gang Takeover of Apartment Buildings in Aurora Is Just a Small Taste of the Chaos to Be Unleashed Against Americans - Most Americans have no idea what’s coming when the invasion forces that have already penetrated and occupied America are given the “purge” activation order to exterminate and replace American citizens. The gang takeover of the apartment buildings in Aurora, Colorado is just a tiny taste of things to come. Note carefully that nobody in Colorado law enforcement is lifting a finger to stop the gang invasion takeover. That have given the gangs total legal immunity, just like Big Pharma and vaccines....

Will Colorado fall under the spell of ranked choice voting? - Ranked choice voting is a bald-faced scam, and that is putting it politely. .............In Colorado — aka California East in some circles — ranked choice voting is just another tactic to enshrine Democrat oligarchic rule.  Will Colorado voters take yet another blue pill without asking what’s in it?...........

This is why the Constitution has a Second Amendment providing for and allowing citizens to organize and defend their communities as militias, but that requires a massive change in leadership at every level, otherwise it's called insurrection.

This out of control criminal activity is rampant throughout the nation, in California illegals are setting wildfires out in San Diego's back country.

They set up campfires wherever they want. They set wildfires to attract border agents to pick them up and transport them to their destinations of choice. They burn down border vehicles because they don't like the Border Patrol. It's shocking what they will do whenever they want something, given the danger of the fire risk and just how big and catastrophic these fires can get once they get out of control. Sound like the kind of people who might rape and murder, too, once they go through catch-and-release?

And nobody in the Biden administration, let alone his border czar, are doing a thing about the border, not on the sea-side, where illegals ride in through the surf and run through the beachgoers' picnics and beach ball parties, as we have seen, and not on the badlands side where illegals set wildfires intentionally and apparently all of them get away with it.

In San Diego's back county, illegals attempt to hijack two school buses loaded with children - ......highlights just how dangerous Joe Biden's open borders are, what with wildfires started, attempted bus hijackings, beach invasions, rapes, robberies, kidnappings and murders, apartment takeovers (described today by AT Deputy Editor Olivia Murray here) and nobody held accountable for it......Nothing is being done, nothing at all, other than border czar Kamala Harris putting out ads claiming to be "tough" on the border. She actually in charge, though, and now this bottom has dropped out -- school kids unable to go to school by her vaunted yellow school buses because illegals come first.  Any comment from her on this outrageous development? Any media curiosity? Of course not

A nation's leaders are supposed to be the shepherds protecting the flock from the wolves.  These monsters are not only turning the wolves loose on the flock, they're protecting them, in effect the Democrat party is in reality no longer a political party, it's a criminal organization.  Since Kamala and the criminal organization she wants to be the head of is responsible for all this, why would we think they're going to fix it in the future?

If this isn't treason, what is it?

A nation's leaders are supposed to be the shepherds protecting the flock from the wolves.  These monsters are not only turning the wolves loose on the flock, they're protecting them, in effect the Democrat party is in reality no longer a political party, it's a criminal organization.  Since Kamala and the criminal organization she wants to be the head of is responsible for all this, why would we think they're going to fix it in the future?

The Zero Emissions Grid Demonstration Project Follies

August 10, 2024 @ Manhattan Contrarian

I claim credit for being the first person to demand a demonstration project to show how a zero emissions electrical grid is supposed to work, before trying to build such a thing for our entire population of three hundred million as involuntary guinea pigs.

How could it be that lots of others haven’t been demanding this for years? It’s like everyone has lost their minds. Before climate hysteria set in, the idea of attempting an engineering project as enormous as a zero emissions electrical grid for the United States, or even for one state, without first having a functioning demonstration project, would have been completely unthinkable. But under the powerful sway of the fear of climate armageddon, the need for a demonstration project to prove feasibility never seems to occur to anybody. And thus trillions of dollars are getting spent — wasted — on facilities that anyone with a brain can easily see will never come close to providing a zero emissions grid — although building these facilities will greatly drive up the cost of electricity to consumers.

Harriet Hageman - Wikipedia
Let me then welcome an important new voice to the still tiny chorus of those demanding a demonstration project. The new voice is Congresswoman Harriet Hageman of Wyoming. (Ms. Hageman is the woman who took out the former Wyoming Congresswoman, Liz Cheney, in a primary in 2022.). Here is a picture of Ms. Hageman from her website:

Ms. Hageman went public with her demand at a town hall held this past Tuesday, August 6, in Jackson, Wyoming. She proposed that the ultra-liberal town of Boulder, Colorado, step up as the potential guinea pig. Wyoming-based news source WyoFile had the story on August 7, with the headline “Hageman proposes a Boulder, Colorado, fossil-fuel-free experiment.” Excerpt:

[Hageman] proposed a pilot project that would strip Boulder, Colorado, a progressive enclave, of its fossil fuel infrastructure — all to be replaced with windmills and solar panels on the city’s open space. “The pilot project is, you take out all their gas stations,” she said to a crowd of about 70 people in the Teton County Library. “We take away all their internal combustion engines — cars. We take away all of their highways and streets, because that’s all oil-and-gas-produced.” . . . “They’ve been a no-growth city for decades,” Hageman said, “so they have a lot of open space around them. We fill out open space with windmills and solar panels, and we’ll see if we can actually run a city of 100,000 people [with] no fossil fuels whatsoever.”

According to WyoFile, Hageman’s remarks drew a response of “applause and laughter” from the supportive crowd in Jackson. However, the WyoFile reporter took the proposal to a City Councilman in Boulder named Mark Wallach, and asked for comment. Wallach was not amused. Here is Wallach’s reaction:

“One of the things that makes people so leery of politics and politicians is when people make ridiculous suggestions like that,” [Wallach] said in a telephone interview with WyoFile. “Nobody on the Boulder Council suggested we can do without all the fossil fuels at this point,” he said. “We make efforts to do better — to recognize that climate change is real and we do things we can do to combat it.”

Well, Mark, what am I missing? If the good people of Boulder are demanding that the whole country be force-marched to a zero emissions future, why shouldn’t they be willing to step up themselves and show that the goal is feasible to achieve? A simple zero-emissions-grid demonstration project is all that it will take.

And, if I might make a suggestion to Ms. Hageman, there is no need to be punitive about this. The claim of the green energy advocates is that electricity from wind and sun are cheaper than electricity from hydrocarbon fuels, and that electric cars and electric heat will be cheaper and better than the cars and heat we have now. So there is no need to forcibly take away the cars and the gas stations. Just have them build the magical zero-emissions grid and, if they can do it, they will have plenty of electricity to power everything, and the gas-powered cars and gas stations will rapidly fade away.

The problem is that it is not going to be possible to build a zero-emissions grid. However, the people of Boulder clearly think that it is going to be possible, and I am perfectly willing to be proved wrong.

But my confidence that I am right only increases with time. The closest thing that the world has to an attempted demonstration project of a zero emissions grid continues to fail spectacularly. That would be the Gorona del Viento project on El Hierro Island in Spain’s Canary Islands.

I have written about the El Hierro project many times, and will not go into the full background here. Suffice it to say that El Hierro was absolutely intended to be a demonstration of a zero emissions grid. A facility of five large wind turbines and a massive pumped-storage hydro backup facility (Gorona del Viento) was built and opened in 2014. The website of Gorona del Viento continues to proclaim on its opening page: “An island 100% renewable energy.” Hah!

It’s an island of about 10,000 people. Average electricity demand is 4-5 MW, and peak demand is about 7.5 MW. Roger Andrews did an independent analysis of the project for the Energy Matters website back in 2017. They built wind turbines with nameplate capacity of 11.5 MW on a mountainside in the trade-winds zone — about the most favorable wind conditions in the world. The hydro storage facility has a capacity of some 270 MWh, which is about 54 - 68 hours of average usage. (By contrast, New York governor Kathy Hochul has a big storage initiative to spend about $10 billion to build one hour of storage.). Doesn’t it sound like El Hierro has what they need to make this work?

Here are the latest statistics from Gorona del Viento, for the full year 2023. The percent of electricity for the island supplied by the wind/storage system for the full year was 35%. The other 65% came from the backup diesel generator. The best month for the wind/storage system was July, when it supplied 62% of the island’s electricity. But then there was October, when it only supplied 10%.

How could they be failing so completely with so much excess generation capacity and a huge storage facility that no one in the world can duplicate? You’ll have to ask them. I’m just reporting the statistics they put out themselves.

This is the best that anyone in the world can do, at least so far. Boulder: it’s up to you to show how this can be done!

More Good News Thanks to Colorado’s TABOR Spending Cap

March 25, 2024 by Dan Mitchell @ International Liberty

Colorado has the best fiscal rule in the United States. The Taxpayer Bill of  Rights (TABOR) limits state government spending so that it cannot grow faster than inflation plus population.

https://freedomandprosperity.org/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/image-16.jpg

Does Colorado’s spending cap work perfectly? Of course not.

Politicians in the Centennial State have spent decades coming up with ways evade and avoid TABOR’s restrictions.

But let’s not make the perfect the enemy of the good.

A study published last year shows that TABOR has saved taxpayers $8.2 billion.

And taxpayers in Colorado may soon keep even more of their money according to an article by Brian Eason in the Colorado Sun. Here are the relevant excerpts.

…the budget will be squeezed primarily by two seemingly minor factors. One, U.S. Census estimates now say the state’s population grew by less than the state’s demographer had anticipated. That means the state revenue cap under the Taxpayer’s Bill of Rights, which tracks inflation and population growth, can only increase by 5.8% this budget year rather than the 6.1% legislative forecasters were expecting. Two, the state is now expected to collect $185 million more in road usage fees and retail delivery charges this year than last, under the legislative staff estimates. Taken together, the two forecast changes mean state lawmakers could have to issue larger than expected TABOR refunds to Coloradans next year, leaving the state with fewer General Fund tax dollars to spend… That would translate to a nearly $400 refund for the average single-filer in 2025 under the current refund formula, which is tiered based on income.

I’m tempted to call this the feel-good story of 2024. Politicians get less money to waste and taxpayers get more of their money returned.

No wonder TABOR is the gold standard for good fiscal policy at the state level. And Switzerland shows that spending caps also are very effective at the national level.

By contrast, there is very little evidence that balanced-budget rules produce good results.

P.S. Perhaps the best evidence for TABOR is that the pro-spending lobbies in Colorado are always trying to trick voters into approving ballot initiatives that would allow more spending. But as we saw in 2013, 2019, and 2023, the voters of left-leaning Colorado keep voting to to maintain their spending cap.

In the Supreme Court this morning

February 8, 2024 — Scott Johnson

The Supreme Court hears oral argument in the Colorado ballot case at 9:00 a.m. this morning — the case of Trump v. Anderson. Did the Colorado Supreme Court err in ordering President Trump excluded from the 2024 presidential primary ballot under section 3 of the Fourteenth Amendment? Is this national question to be determined separately by each of the 50 states? Is section 3 applicable to the office of the presidency? Some version of these questions is to be resolved by the Court in the case.

Section 3 reads: “No person shall be a senator or representative in Congress, or elector of president and vice president, or hold any office, civil or military, under the United States, or under any state, who, having previously taken an oath, as a member of Congress, or as an officer of the United States, or as a member of any state legislature, or as an executive or judicial officer of any state, to support the Constitution of the United States, shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same, or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof.”  ..............To Read More...

Even More Evidence Against Minimum Wage Laws

December 29, 2023 by Dan Mitchell @ International Liberty

As explained by public intellectuals such as Milton Friedman, Johan Norberg, John Stossel, and Orphe Divougny, the argument against minimum wage requirements is very simple.  If politicians dictate that people can’t be employed unless they receive, say, $15 per hour, then workers who are worth less than than amount (because of low skills, no experience, etc) won’t get hired.  And if a worker is worth $17 per hour and a government now says that worker must get $20 per hour, that’s a recipe for getting laid off.  Which is exactly what is happening in California. Here are some excerpts from a Wall Street Journal editorial........To Read More....

Milei's Best Proposal? - December 30, 2023 by Dan Mitchell -  I sometimes joke about living in a libertarian fantasy world, maybe even a libertarian nation with a libertarian anthem.  Amazingly, that is basically what Argentina’s new president, Javier Milei, is trying to create.  At least the libertarian nation part. He has all sorts of proposals that I like, including smaller government, deregulation, and free trade.  But Articulo 209 is my favorite. He wants to prohibit the government from saying that goodies from the government are “free.”  Here’s a tweet describing his proposal................

The Best and Worst News of 2023 - December 31, 2023 by Dan Mitchell - Time for the annual “best and worst” column, which has been a long-standing tradition (2022, 2021, 202020192018etc).  We actually saw some major good news in 2023. Here are my top 3 developments.

President Milei in Argentina – The most important election of the year took place in the long-suffering nation of Argentina, which amazingly elected a hard-core libertarian in its presidential election.

School choice revolution – The past few years have been great for education policy, with state after state adopting some form of universal or near-universal school choice.

Landslide victory for TABOR in Colorado – If Milei’s victory was the best global election news of 2023, the defeat of Proposition HH was the best domestic election news of the year. Pro-spending lobbies have repeatedly tried to get rid of the TABOR spending cap.

Honorable mention goes to the state tax-cutting wave.............

Great Election Result

November 8, 2023 by Dan Mitchell @ International Liberty

Since I care about policies rather than politicians, yesterday’s most important election was a referendum that took place in Colorado.

The big-spending lobbies once again tried to weaken the state’s spending cap, known as TABOR, or the Taxpayer Bill of Rights.

Yet even though Colorado voters lean to the left, they overwhelmingly rejected Proposition HH. Here are the results.

I underlined the most important part of the above description because the anti-TABOR crowd tried to deceive voters by portraying Prop HH as a measure to lower property taxes.

As I wrote last month, “Will Colorado voters be tricked by Proposition HH? Will they be distracted by the shiny bauble of lower property taxes while politicians grab a greater amount of income tax revenue?”

Fortunately, the voters saw through the ruse.

Here’s how Nick Coltrain and Seth Klamann of the Denver Post described the outcome.

Colorado’s wide-ranging Proposition HH, a property tax relief and education-funding measure pressed by the state’s Democratic leaders, went down in defeat Tuesday night as voters were rejecting it by 20 percentage points. More than 60% of voters rejected Proposition HH…voters in all but a handful of counties were on track to reject the major policy proposal put forth by Gov. Jared Polis and legislative Democrats…

It was the second time in four years that voters rebuffed an attempt by state Democrats to raise spending limits under the Taxpayer’s Bill of Rights, or TABOR. …Proposition HH marked the latest defeat as Democrats attempted to leverage their trifecta in state government to hold onto more tax money. On the 2019 ballot, they ran Proposition CC, which proposed to retain all taxes collected beyond the TABOR cap, ending refunds, in a bid to shore up the budget. Voters rejected Prop. CC.

If you want to track the history of anti-TABOR initiatives, I wrote about Prop CC in 2019. And I also wrote about an anti-TABOR initiative that failed back in 2013.

If Republicans were smart (don’t laugh), they would push TABOR-style spending caps in other states.

Colorado Bans Controversial Court-Ordered Reunification Camps

By Alice Giordan June 7, 2023

Colorado has become the first state to ban court-ordered camps that places children into a relationship with a parent who has been accused of abusing them. The camps, known as reunification camps, are ordered by family court judges in private custody disputes or divorces involving minors. As part of the order, workers with private transport companies for the camps are sometimes given temporary custody of the children so they can legally take the children from their homes. Children sent to reunification camps are forced into what some in the system’s care have described as a “brainwashing technique” that the system calls “reunification therapy.”................

It also followed results of a state audit that turned up evidence that at least one custody evaluator admitted he dismissed 90 percent of child abuse claims without investigation them. The main trigger for ordering children to attend reunification camps is an allegation that they have made false allegations of child abuse against their parent as part of the other parent’s plot to alienate them from the accused parent...............In some cases, the judges have ordered the suppression of criminal convictions of child abuse against a parent. Some parents who brought up past convictions have themselved been accused of parental alienation....................“Family court judges are basically doing whatever they want with our kids,” Riley, who says he went broke paying for the camps, told The Epoch Times.

In addition to the Colorado legislation, Swithin’s group has filed a class action lawsuit against the Turning Points for Families reunification camp and its owner Linda Gottlieb on behalf of several children who say there were abused at the camp.............To Read More,,,,,

TABOR’s Track Record: $8.2 Billion in Taxpayer Savings

April 25, 2023 by Dan Mitchell @ International Liberty

The Center for Freedom and Prosperity has a video on spending caps that focuses on international evidence, such as Switzerland’s debt brake.

Here’s a video from the American Legislative Exchange Council that that looks at a successful domestic spending cap – Colorado’s Taxpayer Bill of Rights.

Here’s the short and simple explanation of how the Taxpayer Bill of Rights (TABOR) constrains spending.

Under the constitutional provision, state tax revenue cannot grow faster than population plus inflation. Any revenues above that amount have to be returned to taxpayers

Do And since the state has a requirement for a balanced budget, that means that spending also can only grow as fast as population plus inflation.

Has TABOR been successful?

Colorado has out-performed other states, as measured by the growth of personal income, which presumably is a key variable.

Another key variable is the amount of money that TABOR has returned to taxpayers. Here are some excerpts from a new study, authored by Professor Barry Paulson and published by the American Legislative Exchange Council.

This year, the Colorado General Assembly announced a taxpayer rebate of $3.6 billion in surplus revenue. …These rebates are mandated by TABOR, a fiscal rule that limits the growth of revenue and spending at all levels of government and requires that surplus revenue be rebated to taxpayers. …It is important to understand why TABOR has been successful and resilient. TABOR is designed to limit the rate of growth in state revenue and spending to the sum of inflation plus the rate of growth in population while allowing a majority of voters to increase the revenue and spending limit when needed. This prevents many new taxes increases. If the state government collects more tax dollars than TABOR allows, the money is returned to taxpayers as a TABOR refund. …As a result, the state has not incurred deficits or accumulated debt as much as other states, like California. …tax rebates…totaling $8.2 billion since TABOR passed in 1992, has strengthened Colorado citizens confidence in the TABOR Amendment over the years.

The last sentence is key. TABOR has resulted in $8.2 billion in tax rebates. More important, it has prevented Colorado politicians from spending $8.2 billion.

Taxpayers seem to understand that TABOR is a very important protection against over-taxing and over-spending.

Here are some excerpts from a column by Ben Murrey of Colorado’s Independence Institute.

Every time voters speak on key issues related to TABOR, they send the same unambiguous message: “Leave TABOR alone and let us keep our money!” …In 2019 after voters gave Democrats unified control over state government, legislators thanked them by sending Proposition CC–which would have permanently ended TABOR refunds–to the November ballot, where Coloradans soundly rejected it. …In 2020, voters had the choice between two competing citizen-led ballot initiatives. One would have raised taxes and repealed TABOR’s requirement that Colorado maintains the same income tax rate for all taxpayers. The other, put on the ballot by my organization, Independence Institute, reduced the state’s income tax rate from 4.63 to 4.55 percent. The latter passed with a wide margin. The former failed even to gather enough signatures to appear on the ballot. …Fast forward to 2022. …Initiative 63 would have taken TABOR refunds from taxpayers and given the money back to the state to spend on public education. Like the tax increase measure from 2020, the initiative failed even to make the ballot. Conversely, Independence Institute worked to put Proposition 121 on the ballot. The measure won with more than a 30-point margin and lowered the state income tax rate from 4.55 to 4.4 percent, saving taxpayers over $400 million per year.

Colorado voters don’t always reject tax increases. At the local level, such measures often are approved.

But Murrey’s article shows that voters want to preserve TABOR and don’t want to give state politicians a blank check for more taxes and more spending.

Needless to say, a TABOR-style spending cap would be very helpful in other states. And at the national level as well.

P.S. The ALEC study looked at 30 years of evidence. There’s also a study that looked at the first 20 years of evidence.

Colorado Secretary of State Admits It Mailed Over 31,000 Voter Registration Instruction Cards to Non-Citizens

By January 9, 2023

In October 2022, the Colorado Secretary of State’s office acknowledged to the media that it mailed more than 31,000 voter registration instruction cards to foreign nationals living in the state. The registration information was sent out in the months leading up to the 2022 midterm elections.  In a Jan. 5, 2023, press release, the Public Interest Legal Foundation (PILF), said, “The Secretary of State’s office blamed a ‘data analytical error’ for the non-citizens in 58 counties receiving voter registration materials.” PILF, a national election integrity watchdog group, is investigating who was responsible for the mailing and how state election roll maintenance is conducted in Colorado.........To Read More....

Voter Fraud in Ohio

My Take - What should outrage everyone is the fact these states needed to be forced to do their job.  It's their job to make sure the voter roles are cleansed and maintained. Why haven't they?   They're going after Colorado and Pennsylvania now, but after all this we still come back to the same question.  Why do they have to "force" these states to do what they're supposed to be doing automatically?  Answer?  These state "leaders" are all part of the problem.  The Democrats want dirty roles to steal elections and the Republicans are gutless or leftists in their own right and would have just as soon seen Hillary as President rather than Trump.  Now what about Wisconsin?

Ohio’s Franklin County Says Nearly 50,000 Voters Got Wrong Absentee Ballots

By Jack Phillips October 9, 2020

Officials in Ohio said that about 50,000 voters in Franklin County received incorrect absentee ballots in the mail. “We can now confirm that 49,669 voters received an incorrect ballot. Those voters will be contacted directly by the Franklin County Board of Elections and a replacement ballot will be mailed to them,” said the Franklin County Board of Elections.

In a news release on Friday, the board said it’s started the process of printing out new absentee ballots to replace the erroneous ones, and it will mail the replacements to every voter who got the wrong ballot. Those ballots will be sent via the U.S. Postal Service (USPS) in the next 72 hours, officials said.

“We want to make it clear that every voter who received an inaccurate ballot will receive a corrected ballot,” the board said. “Stringent tracking measures are in place to guarantee that a voter can only cast one vote.”...........To Read More.....

SCOTUS to hear Ohio voter purge case

The Supreme Court has agreed to hear an appeal of a lower court ruling by the state of Ohio that blocked the purge of voter registration rolls. The state government was enforcing a law passed in the 1990s that removed the names of voters who failed to vote for six straight years.  The goal was to purge the dead and those who had moved out of state. But liberal groups, including the ACLU, said the process was discriminatory because the purge affected minorities adversely. They claimed it was a "voter suppression" technique and not an effort to prevent voter fraud. Reuters:
Civil liberties advocates who challenged Ohio's policy said it illegally erased voters from registration rolls and unlawfully disenfranchised minorities and poor people who tend to back Democratic candidates. The justices will review a U.S. appeals court ruling that Ohio's policy ran afoul of a 1993 law called the National Voter Registration Act, which Congress passed to make it easier for Americans to register to vote.  Read more

Leftist Voting Rights Agitator Convicted of 35 Counts Of…You Guessed It!

By Andrew West March 9, 2017

Even before the release of Wikileaks documents proving election tampering by the left, it was fairly obvious what the liberals were up to.

Their consistent insistence that voter fraud simply does not exist is absurd, to say the least.  This willy-nilly, free for all stance on protecting one of Americans’ most sacred rights was simply a way for the democrats to infiltrate and exploit the weaknesses of our electoral process.  It is certainly not to keep our elections fair and free, as they would have you believe.  Furthermore, challengers to this liberal point of view are treated with a heaping dose of racist rhetoric from the leftists.

The left is so very intent on convincing you that voter fraud is imaginary so that one of their own can commit 35 counts of it all by her lonesome........Rebecca A. Hammonds was working for the Ohio Organizing Collaborative (OOC) in September and October of 2015. At that time, the Columbiana County elections board director found discrepancies in voter registration applications filed by the group. Five of the names were of dead people........To Read More...

My Take - If each violation can result in one year in prison, how can the prosecutor be happy with probation and the judge feels she only deserves six month in jail.  At least he understood there has to be some serious consequences for this - but six months versus 35 years?  The judge said, "You made a mockery of our system … If 180 days (in the county jail) doesn’t teach you a lesson, nothing will".   Six months for "making a mockery of our system"?  Perhaps it will teach her something or not, but what it will teach those involved - and I have no doubt she wasn't a long wolf, but part of a pack of wolves - the penalty for the crime of "making a mockery of our system" isn't so bad in order to get their people in office.

I have to wonder - if they take this so lightly can we assume there was no effort to investigate the others working for the Ohio Organizing Collaborative group?
