People wonder why socialism is raising its alluring head in America. They also wonder why governments are failing everywhere except for one. The answer is simple, after 250 years American exceptionalism is at a historic juncture. The government of Donald Trump is succeeding because it is not a government in the sense people have come to expect over that time. It did not seek power to control; instead, it was prepared to take the people where they wanted to go regardless of the political ramifications.
As Trump astutely observed from the start, this is not about me. He says, you told me where you wanted to go, and I am prepared to take you. Trump understood why George Washington was elected President unanimously. He didn’t want the job. He also understood why Washington, reluctantly, took the job – the country needed him. He fully understood Jefferson’s observation of the limitations of Washington.
“Were we directed from Washington when to sow, and when to reap, we should soon want bread.”More important, he personified a citizen who didn’t need or want the job. He underscores that idea with occasional references to the life he gave up, a life that defines the American dream. A measure of his awareness of the people is that Romney was embarrassed and apologized for his wealth. Trump said proudly, I am a billionaire and want you to be one too. A real, personal, objective, the people understood.............
Trump is not conventional, nor is he hampered by political correctness. For these reasons he acts and moves forward naturally and realistically. Capitalism tempered with morality is precisely what he pursues.
