Observations From the Back Row With News and Views For March 22, 2025

I save a lot of articles dealing with every issue facing mankind, and my draft file is large, so, I've created ways of saving them for reference purposes by creating gazettes, and News and Views pieces, and I will be linking them as add on pieces in order to purge my draft files and still have the ability to reference that material.   

Starting on Monday I will be posting a new daily feature called News and Views.  And while I've posted articles under that name this will be different.  It will consist of a list of linked articles I think are newsworthy, and where possible I will categorize them topically,  posting it later in the news day as most sites will be done posting their pieces by then.   

Anything posted later will be part of the next day's list.  Anything that appears on Saturday or Sunday will be linked with the Monday News and Views post.  What appears below are pieces I've been saving for quite a while, some going back a ways, and some very current, but not in chronological order.

Columbia Crumbles - Money talks, even when you have a $15 billion endowment. So Columbia has acceded to the Trump administration’s demands to get back the $400 million in federal funding that Trump revoked over the university’s anti-Semitism........

Schools nationwide are watching Columbia with alarm; many fear a demand for similar concessions. Their primary concern: without freedom to follow their intellectual curiosity, the discoveries and innovations that fuel the U.S.’s economy will decline or even grind to a halt.

Yes, the “intellectual curiosity” to vandalize buildings and beat up Jews. It’s a pity: no doubt Mahmoud Khalil was just about to discover a cure for cancer. Now Syria or Algeria will get the benefit of his intellectual curiosity and spirit of innovation....

Ivy League university webinar says science is too male, too hetero, and too fetus-centric -  The presentation by two lefties was titled, “Is Fat Female? Evolution, Feminism, and Getting the Story Right.” According to a recent article on thecollegefix.com, during a recent online event at Cornell University, feminist ‘scholars’ discussed their concerns about science being too male, too “hetero,” and too “feto-centric.” Really. ........To recap: males are bad. Straight males are worse. Babies are bad. Fat can be good.........

Shalom, Mahmoud! - If Mahmoud really wanted to be a revolutionary at Columbia, he could have done something genuinely radical—joined the College Republicans, read the collected works of P.J. O’Rourke, or written a thesis on why Adam Smith is the most unappreciated intellectual of the last 500 years.   

 

America has many traditions—apple pie, baseball, and, thanks to Columbia University, mass-producing trust-fund revolutionaries with a soft spot for Hamas. But as it turns out, supporting terrorist organizations while enjoying a cushy student life in the U.S. isn’t quite as consequence-free as our academic betters would have you believe.

Enter Mahmoud Khalil, the Columbia campus firebrand turned deportation candidate. ICE picked him up, shipped him off to Louisiana, the White House hit send on a two-word masterpiece—“Shalom, Mahmoud”—and suddenly, an entire generation of Ivy League agitators needed fainting couches and emotional support kombucha............

So-called ‘Gender affirming’ surgery is bad for people’s happiness -  This was obvious to anyone with common sense, but a large study has confirmed it.  When my kids were growing up, I knew a young man who was charming, funny, sociable, and quite obviously going to be gay. Exactly no one was surprised when, at 13, he came out of the closet. All would have been well if COVID hadn’t hit when he was in college. Isolated and depressed, he signed up for therapy, ending with a therapist who informed him that he was actually a woman. (I’m sure social media algorithms, such as Chinese-run TikTok’s, helped steer him in that direction.)

This 70-year-old woman is serving 9 years in prison - By Joe Fried -  Tina Peters was once the Clerk and Recorder of Mesa County, Colorado, and was in charge of county elections. Now she is serving a nine-year term in a Colorado prison. Her crime? She identified the unauthorized destruction of voter information that took place in two consecutive county elections: the November 2020 election and a local election held in early 2021. In each case, there is irrefutable evidence showing that the election database had been removed and subsequently reinstalled, minus information needed to identify the voter intent of thousands of ballots.

Peters, who is a matronly gold star mother, was concerned after three conservatives lost in a local election, despite the county having far more Republicans than Democrats. Due to a pending software update, the election database would soon be altered. For that reason, Peters asked her IT department to make a backup copy of the database. When they refused, Peters decided to take independent action. That action involved legal infractions that gave Colorado and local officials the excuse they needed to wage despicable lawfare.
