Speaking to a joint session of Congress on March 4, 2025 President Trump offered a common sense speech to a joint session of Congress — and to the nation and the entire world. Those who want to Make America Great Again joyously applauded throughout the speech. It was the longest speech ever given to Congress; however, its length is partially due to numerous raucous for standing ovations by Republicans.
As for President Donald J. Trump's victorious speech, here are some comments:
- Historian and author Douglas Brinkley; CNN “I think President did what he needed to do. …Trump had a better night than Democrats.”
- Sean Whalen, Washington Correspondent, RTE News (Ireland) “But the pictures were stark at the beginning of the night - half the house standing and cheering, the other half sitting stony faced in their seats.”
- Todd Schaefer, political science professor at Central Washington University; interview “This was a political theatre; he is a master showman in a lot of ways. He was using Democrats as foils, I think they played into his hand.”
- Josh Lipsky, senior director of the Atlantic Council’s GeoEconomics Center and a former adviser to the International Monetary Fund “The most significant line on trade in the president’s address wasn’t about steel, aluminum, or farming. It was when Trump said tariffs are “about protecting the soul of our country.” These seven words should put the whole world on notice that Trump is serious about tariffs. To him, they are not just a negotiating tool. It is possible that, within the next several months, we could be facing a global trade war.”
- Brit Hume; Fox News “If you ever doubted that Donald Trump is the political colossus of this time and our nation, this night’s and this speech should put that to rest.”
- Matt Walsh blog; “I don’t think the TV broadcast fully captured it. The Dems were interrupting and heckling constantly through the whole speech. Just non- stop petulant outbursts. The most pathetic display I’ve ever seen.”
- Sasha Stone, “Congratulations, Democrats. You Disgusted the Entire Country;” Substack “Unlike Trump rallies where each network has its own cameras, there are pool cameras for events such as a joint speech to Congress. All national and international networks have access to what is being filmed, but it’s the same images for everyone. Did you notice that at first the cameras showed Democrats holding their silly signs and wearing funny T-shirts? Within 20 minutes, the pool cameras stopped showing the high schoolish Democrats because they looked so foolish.”
- Doug Schoen; Democrat strategist “The starkest impact made by President Donald Trump’s speech to a joint session of Congress was the boldness of his vision and the absolute absence of any alternative from the Democratic Party. “Whether you voted for Trump or not last November, it was hard on Tuesday night not to see someone seeking to put his agenda into practice. The president made clear to lawmakers and indeed the world, that his overarching goal is American renewal and the reinvigoration of the American Dream.”
- CBS – 76 percent approved, and 23 percent disapproved. The network reported that “most viewers who tuned in say Trump’s speech made them feel ‘hopeful’ and ‘proud.’ Most viewers described the president as ‘presidential,’ ‘inspiring,’ and more ‘unifying’ than ‘divisive.’ A majority also called it ‘entertaining.’”
- CNN – 69 percent of those polled by CNN had a “very positive” or “somewhat positive” reaction to the speech, while 31 percent had a negative reaction.
Many people watching State of the Union speeches or other speeches to joint sessions of Congress might assume Presidents always call out special guests sitting in the gallery. This started with President Ronald Reagan’s 1982 State of the Union speech when he invited Lenny Skutnik to attend, which is why special invited guests are called “Skutniks.” From a Time article by Merrill Fabry explaining how the tradition started:
Until two weeks earlier, Skutnik had been a relatively anonymous 28- year-old employee at the Congressional Budget Office. On Jan. 13, an Air Florida plane crashed into Washington D.C.’s 14th Street bridge. Skutnik jumped into the Potomac to pull a victim ashore, gaining nation- al notoriety along the way. But Reagan’s appreciation didn’t stop with the invitation to watch the speech, and as Reagan discussed “the spirit of American heroism at its finest” he also spoke of “the heroism of one of our young government employees, Lenny Skutnik, who, when he saw a woman lose her grip on the helicopter line, dived into the water and dragged her to safety.” The audience rose to their feet to applaud Skutnik’s actions.
At President Trump’s speech last week, did you notice that Democrats did NOT stand and applaud for:
- A young boy battling brain cancer who wants to be in law enforcement; made an honorary Secret Service agent.
- The capture of a terrorist who MURDERED 13 Americans. Two mothers of daughters who were murdered by ILLEGAL ALIENS. An American hostage recently let out of a Russian gulag.
- Mother and daughters of a father who died taking bullets to protect his wife and daughter. The widow of a slain New York City police officer. A volunteer fire department captain who has taken in 40+ foster children.
- A Border Patrol agent that rescued his partner who was under drug cartel gunfire.
- Russia and Ukraine now both saying they want PEACE!
- Closing our border to fentanyl and other drugs, criminals and illegal aliens.
- Cutting BILLIONS in wasteful and fraudulent federal spending.

What if it was wacko communist Tim Walz sitting behind her in the vice president’s chair?
What if rudderless House Minority Leader Hakem Jeffries was sitting in the speakership chair?
Who would “President” Kamala Harris have invited as her special guests? We have some ideas of what Harris would have said as she introduced them:
- John was born Jane, but realized at age 3 that he was living in the wrong body. Without his parent’s knowledge, the teachers started him on the path to becoming a boy. At age 12, John heroically had his breasts removed. Let’s applaud this young man. Unfortunately, John couldn’t be with us today since he is recovering from his fourth suicide attempt.
- Martha was the only student in her class to get five COVID vaccines and 19 boosters. Martha, if you can stand up while holding your oxygen tank, I’d like the American people to see you.
- Since 2020, Lisa and Sam have lovingly opened their home to more than 20 undocumented visitors from Venezuela, Columbia and Mexico. Supplemented with government funds, they have fed and clothed our wonderful visitors from south of the border. Their teenage daughter happily helped until her psychologist said she shouldn’t be near men who raped her.
- Howard started his business in a small garage and eventually expanded to become one of his town’s biggest employers. Today Howard still employs over 1,000 people, only they are all in China.
- Debbie started a nonprofit and just celebrated her 1,000th abortion
I will state this may have been one of the greatest speeches ever presented before a joint session of Congress, if for no other reason it exposed just how divided the party's are. A party in ascension versus a party in descent. A party with a leadership promoting a positive vision and focus, versus a party with no solutions and unending whining, acting like disgraceful brats, and now we're finding how massively corrupt they've been.
In every election the Democrats take around 47 % of the vote, with about 25% being hardcore leftists. The other 20% may not be hard left in their views but are hereditary Democrats. What will happen with that 20% in 2026? Some of them will vote for a Republican, but most of them will not. But will they vote for the Democrat? That remains to be seen, but with the antics of their leadership, and the corruption being exposed, voting for the Democrat may be difficult.
The Democrats really are not normal as they've descended into madness, "anti-woman, anti-American, anti-peace, and anti-reality."
