Death by Renewables

December 16, 2013 by Marita Noon
“Even green projects have an impact on their surrounding environment.” Green energy, specifically so-called renewables, has been sold to the American public as the answer to a host of crimes against the planet. But, as Lex Berko points out in her post on Motherboard, “even green” has its downside. Biomass may be “renewable,” but burning it releases CO2. Then, it’s expensive: “A 100% renewable-energy mix from in-state sources could cost up to five times more,” reports the Wall Street Journal (WSJ). And, energy from wind and solar sources kills birds.
Wind turbines chop up bald and golden eagles, and other endangered species, like a Cuisinart—the taller turbines with longer blades (which produce more energy, and, therefore, is where the trend is heading) have a predicted annual ten-fold mortality increase. The authors of a new study on bird collision mortality at wind facilities concludes: “Given that we found evidence for increased bird mortality with increasing height of monopole turbines along with a move toward increasing turbine size, we argue that wildlife collision risk should be incorporated with energy efficiency considerations when evaluating the ‘greenness’ of alternative wind energy development options.” If the Department of Energy were to meet its 2030 goal of having 20 percent of the nation’s electricity generated from wind, they project: “a mean annual mortality estimate of roughly 1.4 million birds.”....To Read More....

My Take - There are so many levels to this story. First, the greenies - prompted by Rachel Carson's lies in Silent Spring - claimed DDT needed banned because it was killing birds wholesale. That was a lie.
The bird population over North American expanded anywhere from 12 to 47 times their previous number depending on species, and the bald eagle population actually increased during the DDT years.
Furthermore, irrespective of Carson's claims, the robin was in no way going extinct!  In point of fact it was the most numerous bird in North America. But we see the Obama administration making all sorts of exemptions for an unnecessary energy production system that will kill birds, including the bald eagle and numerous other tens of thousands of endangered birds and untold tens of thousands of protected bats. And when the greenies finally protested it amounted to meow rather than a roar.
The best part of all of this is twofold.
We're doing this because the left/green movement falsely convinced the world we were running out of traditional energy sources and those sources were causing catastrophic planetary warming via carbon dioxide emissions. Now called climate change because it isn't warming - and hasn't been for over 15 years - and the carbon dioxide emissions have skyrocketed.
That means three things.
  • First, we don't need solar or wind energy, since they aren't really alternative energy sources to traditional sources.
  • Second, we aren't running out of traditional energy sources.
  • Third, CO2 doesn't cause climate change.
So why do we continue with this fraud?
