The Double Standard on Campus Speech

After weeks in which college students at campuses from Columbia to Harvard to UCLA celebrated murders and rapes, waved the flags of Islamic terrorist organizations and assaulted Jewish people, one student has finally been held accountable.

The student, a frat brother at University of Mississippi, was a counterprotester who allegedly mocked a pro-terror student as “Lizzo” and made sounds some thought resembled a monkey.

While no amount of calls for the destruction of America or assaults on Jewish students led to any outrage in the media or actual consequences (including Khymani James, a leader of the Columbia University encampment who talked to university officials about killing Jews), the incident at a decidedly non-Ivy school has actually generated outrage and consequences.

Knocking a Jewish female UCLA student unconscious didn’t do it. Barring Jewish students from being able to go to their classes didn’t do it. Assaulting staff members and faculty at universities didn’t do it. But call a fat black female activist Lizzo” and it’s an instant nationwide outrage.

The Biden administration personally condemned it. The New York Times, USA Today, The Daily Beast, NBC News, CNN and Newsweek all covered this urgent story. None of them condemned or addressed a Jewish girl being knocked unconscious at UCLA. Or other specific assaults.

What the ‘Ole Miss’ story really tells us is that the sudden concern for free speech on campuses is a hoax. The media and the rest of the Left believe that calling for the murder of Jews is free speech while calling another student “Lizzo” isn’t. Just as they believe that non-Mexican students wearing sombreros is a punishable offense but cheering for Hamas isn’t.

In 2019, Harvard rescinded admission to Kyle Kashuv, a conservative survivor of the Parkland massacre, because of racial slurs in a text message from 2016. According to Harvard, a student can be retroactively denied admission because of something stupid he texted when he was 16, but Hamas supporters can’t be disciplined when they promote violence and antisemitism because of a highly selective commitment to “free speech”. Harvard kicked out incoming freshmen over old memes, accusing them of a lack of “maturity and moral character”.

Supporting the massacre of Jews however doesn’t raise any issues of “moral character”.

If free speech on campuses meant the right to air any views, no matter how abhorrent, to hurl any insult, that would at least be fair. In reality though campuses closely police speech they don’t like while defending their inaction against leftist terrorism and violence as “free speech”.

Universities don’t believe in free speech. Neither does the media. What they do believe is that calling a fat black girl “Lizzo” is unacceptable but chanting “Intifada”, “Glory to Our Martyrs” or “Yemen, Yemen, make us proud, turn another ship around!” in support of the Houthi Jihadis attacking civilian ships near Yemen are legitimate and even praiseworthy forms of speech.

At Brown, “hundreds of students on the Main Green chanted” in support of a terrorist group fighting the US Navy under the motto, “Allahu Akbar, Death to America, Death to Israel, a Curse on the Jews and Victory for Islam.” But at least Lizzo didn’t come up.

(That’s the same university whose commitment to anti-racism is so wholehearted that it barred white students from one of its classes in violation of both state and federal law.)

No university would tolerate a KKK rally on its premises. When racists marched at the University of Virginia, it was a national outrage, but when UVA recently cleared an encampment of Hamas supporters, the president felt the need to offer multiple apologies to the terrorist supporters.

The terrorist rallies are not protected because of free speech, but because the Left backs them.

Even while defending the Hamas encampments, universities and the media have taken every opportunity to criminalize and punish opponents and counter-protesters. Whether it was assistant professor Shai Davidai being banned from the Columbia campus, Yale spending a year investigating Evan Morris, a Jewish engineering professor, for signing a letter condemning campus antisemitism, or blaming UCLA Jewish counterprotesters for fighting back against violent assaults by Hamas supporters or the Ole Miss incident, there’s a consistent pattern of harassing, penalizing and demonizing anyone who gets in the way of the Hamas supporters.

That’s not free speech either.

The double standard is not a new problem. In 2020, the same political systems that ruthlessly suppressed anti-lockdown protesters with violent arrests, widespread censorship and, at the furthest extreme in Canada, martial law, not only tolerated the BLM race riots, but punished the mildest forms of dissent against it with firings, cancel culture and even criminal prosecution.

The same political system that permitted tearing down and vandalizing statues also prosecuted drivers driving over BLM graffiti on streets. Tearing down a Columbus statue was “in the finest tradition of political protest”, but swerving over a giant yellow BLM was a hate crime.

While the double standards were defended at the time as a response to an oppressed minority, the Hamas campus riots pit two minority groups against each other with revealing results. The system is no longer just picking and choosing between a minority group and a nameless class of targets for its violence, but between two groups both protected by civil rights law.

What made universities and the media choose one group, Muslims, over another, Jews?

Islamists have become part of the larger leftist coalition. The atrocities of Oct 7 have been rebranded as a liberation movement. After months of rallies, the position initially adopted by Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) and the Muslim Students Association (MSA) which openly endorsed the crimes of Hamas, has become widespread across the Left.

Rather than honestly address that the media has once again taken to lying about the riots, as it did in 2020 with CNN’s infamous “’fiery but mostly peaceful protest’ being reported on with flames in the background, depicting the violence as the work of a handful of fringe figures, suggesting that the only reason protests became violent were the police arrests, and falsely portraying the views of the protesters as moderates seeking an end to the fighting.

The media, eager for any distraction from the violent racist criminality of its cause, chose to make a woman who called the cops after getting into an argument in a park into a national villain, while looking away from the worst kinds of violence and looting across the country.

Now the unfortunate former frat brother at ‘Ole Miss’ is the latest national villain because it allows the media to distort the conflict between Jewish students and Hamas supporters in the Ivies into a more familiar story about a showdown between Southern racists and black people.

While the story of the frat brother was covered by every major national media outlet, the story of Eleanor Saghian, a Jewish UCLA student who was knocked unconscious, only appeared on FOX News. Milagro Jones, a formerly homeless non-Jewish UCLA student who was mistakenly assaulted by Hamas supporters, was likewise only able to tell his story to FOX News.

The perpetrators of the assaults have not been suspended or expelled from campus.

If Hamas supporters violently assault students, the national media will boycott the story, but if a counterprotester insults a Hamas supporter, the media will make sure it’s front page news.

Authorities Treat Pro-Hamas and Anti-Drag Protests in Very Different Ways

After years of riots, including the latest outburst of pro-Hamas attacks targeting synagogues, churches, and Jewish restaurants, it turns out that there is a way to stop them after all.

New Hampshire Attorney General John M. Formella recently filed civil rights charges against a Neo-Nazi group which had been protesting outside a drag event at a cafe.

In December, Massachusetts Attorney General Andrea Campbell filed civil rights charges against the same group for harassing drag events and migrant housing facilities. Campbell claimed that the Nationalist Social Club had “engaged in a concerted attempt to target and terrorize people across Massachusetts and interfere with their rights.”

The National Socialists didn’t actually do anything more (and arguably less) than BLM and Hamas supporters have spent the last three years doing to people around the country.

In New Hampshire, they were accused of banging on the windows and making intimidating gestures. In Massachusetts, they were charged with trespassing, intimidating hotel staff and disrupting the operations of hotels. They’ve also been accused of minor vandalism.  Name a leftist aligned protest movement that doesn’t routinely do all of these things.

The problem isn’t that Neo-Nazis are being charged when their behavior is illegal, it’s that the same kinds of behavior are treated as sacrosanct when practiced by eco-terrorists, BLM and now Hamas supporters who intimidate, threaten, interfere with operations and vandalize targets.

The two states claim that civil rights charges are legitimate because the Neo-Nazis targeted “minority groups”. But that’s exactly what Hamas supporters have been doing.

Massachusetts is the home of the ‘Mapping Project’ targeting Jewish institutions for protests which listed Jewish schools, synagogues and community groups.

This came after antisemitic incidents were at all time high in Manhattan.

In 2020, as part of a ‘Day of Rage’, terrorist supporters had marched to the offices of Jewish organizations while chanting calls for Intifada and the destruction of Israel. With a mob of 300, the Day of Rage had a much larger turnout than the paltry Neo-Nazi rallies.

No civil rights charges were filed.

Earlier in 2023, the National Socialists had been charged with a civil rights violation in New Hampshire for hanging up a “Keep New England white” banner. But at the University of New Hampshire campus, students had gathered to chant the “From the River to the Sea, Palestine Will Be Free” call for the destruction of Israel which was described as “protected speech”. Both are calls for getting rid of minority groups, but only one resulted in criminal charges.

Given the right political incentive, minor protest charges like trespassing, vandalism or disrupting a business that lead to nothing more than a desk appearance ticket (and usually not even that) for leftists are hooked up to civil rights laws that suddenly put real teeth into them.

Massachusetts and New Hampshire showed that the abusive behaviors we have been forced to take for granted from leftist protest movements have a legal recourse. Massachusetts had previously explored adding Neo-Nazis to gang member databases as an “unincorporated group”. Is there any reason that BLM rioters and Hamas supporters shouldn’t also be there?

During the BLM and pro-Hamas riots, the authorities insisted on describing any behavior short of blowing things up as “first amendment activities”. But they’re actually not. Blocking roads, streets and buildings is not a “first amendment activity”. And if you doubt that, try doing it while advocating for the Fourth Reich, Kim Jong-Un or some other socially unapproved cause.

The extended difference granted to leftist protesters is not a matter of law, but of privilege.

The same authorities that claimed that they are unable to do anything about even the most abusive protests enforce the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances Act under which even the most non-violent forms of civil disobedience in front of a Planned Parenthood clinic are a federal crime that can lead to serious prison time. In the last few years, the FBI has raided the homes of abortion clinic protesters who did the same things that leftist protesters routinely do.

Last year, Eva Zastrow, who sat in front of the door at an abortion clinic to block people from going inside, was charged with multiple FACE violations. Some of her fellow protesters were charged with engaging in a conspiracy against civil rights and face 11 years in prison.

How is that possible? The Clinton administration decided that access to abortion clinics was a federal protected civil right and protesting against them was therefore a civil rights violation.

Pro-abortion protesters who broke into the Supreme Court and disrupted hearings on abortion were sentenced to nothing more than unsupervised probation while anti-abortion protesters face 11 years in prison for doing less than that. Faced with a protest or a riot that they oppose, like Jan 6, the authorities find legal tools for throwing everyone involved in prison for a long time.

Break into Congress to oppose Biden and you will spend years in prison, but break into Congress to oppose Republicans or support Hamas, and you get off with nothing or less than nothing. That’s because the tools are there left over from the civil rights era, counterintelligence, counterterrorism, the war on drugs or other events that gave federal and local law enforcement extensive and arguably unconstitutional powers for dealing with the crisis of the moment.

Both the use of those tools and the failure to use them are themselves forms of discrimination.

In recent years, the Biden administration, under Secretary of Transportation Buttigieg began charging passengers with federal crimes for getting into tussles with flight attendants, yet Hamas supporters have been able to invade and besiege airports, and even fly a balloon to ground planes near JFK without a single word from Buttigieg or any threat of intervention. Have too many drinks and you’re a federal offender, attack an airport for terrorists, and you’re fine.

In every case there are selective reasons for applying the law and for choosing not to do so.

What is not true is that there are no legal remedies. Instead the authorities file the same problems and the same behaviors under different categories for political reasons. A BLM or pro-Hamas riot targeting churches and synagogues is filed as a first amendment protected activity because it is categorized as a civil rights protest, while Neo-Nazis doing the same thing outside a drag event get locked up because they are categorized as violating civil rights.

These are not differences in behavior or even intent, but in the politics of the perpetrators.

We don’t have to live in a country in which race rioters and terrorists can block roads and airports, harass churches and synagogues, and endorse violence and domestic terror.

All we have to do is start categorizing their behavior as a violation of our civil rights.
People have a right to leave their homes. They have a right to visit their chosen houses of worship. And they have a right to attend their university of choice without harassment.

The First Amendment does not extend to intimidating, terrorizing, threatening and preventing people from living their lives. Once people are being blocked, harassed or threatened, it is no longer a legal protest, but a civil rights violation. And it should be treated as such. The failure to do so has normalized radicals fighting police, blocking people and roads, and filming themselves stalking and harassing passerby before posting the videos on TikTok.

The authorities have shown us that the tools exist to end this nightmare. They just need to be used. And if elected officials and prosecutors refuse, then those ready to act will replace them.

America and Israel Held to Different Standard While Arabs Held To No Standards by Robert Socha

World politics unfairly holds the United States and Israel to a different standard.

Its morality binds the United States (and Western Europe, too) to accept unmitigated immigration and support third-world dictatorships by funding their governments. Still, the countries whose citizens are fleeing in droves and whose economies are in shambles are not bound to change their governance, affording their citizenry the chance to live comfortably. Eastern powers do not have to behave similarly.

Its morality mandates Israel turn the other cheek to a ceasefire, but common human decency does not bind the entire Arab world to live peaceably with their neighbor.

With the current Administration’s ineptitude, these countries we have supported for decades are now hedging against us, bringing us to the precipice of WWIII. Never in my 51 years has the brink of worldwide war been so palpable. Similarly, Israel’s necessarily powerful response to Hamas’ atrocities has flipped the script, and the Muslim invasion of the West screams bloody murder, manipulating Western laws to their advantage without taking responsibility for instigating the action. Western governments choose to try and appease an incalcitrant mob instead of curtailing the violence through the same rule of law. The sins of the fathers finding them out.

Similarly, the same body politic holds Republicans and Christians to a different standard.

In these United States, Democrats can impugn their opposition without remorse but can spew venomous hatred and lies against their enemies unmolested, retreating behind closed doors without remorse. Republicans, on the other hand, are sentenced to hard time for creating a meme that mocks the Democrat Presidential Candidate, are indicted for acting Presidentially, and receive extremely cruel and unusual punishments extended to those who chose to defy the outcome of the 2020 Presidential election on January 6. 

The palpable hypocrisy mocks justice.

Likewise, Christians cannot express their disgust at societal debauchery, but sexual deviants can flaunt their wares, force-feeding their hedonistic hegemony. Acceptance and tolerance of views deemed abominable are only a requirement for those who follow Christ.

Considering the foundations of Republican government and the idea of self-rule, it is indeed becoming to hold ourselves to a higher standard and demand civility. These standards should inspire the masses to good conduct and maturity, building our lives on the foundation of responsibility and action, working together so that everyone can benefit from the cultural objective of personal responsibility for our choices. Strength rejoicing in the challenge[i]. 

Nevertheless, forcing a population to irresponsibly allow unfettered masses to immigrate without following a predetermined set of rules and responsibilities for the immigrant is a precursor to social unrest not seen since the French Revolution. Additionally, forcing that same populace to fund defunct nation-states is not a sustainable standard. Instead, we should encourage their governments to adopt the idea of self-rule and foster sustainable international competition.

On the other hand, Christians are naturally held to a higher standard and should endeavor to hold on to the challenge. Christians should also be quick to repent and look to the Author of Faith to help restore their souls should they stray from the straight and narrow. Notably, there are no perfect people, and with a penitent heart, one who has not lived up to the standard should be rebuked, restored, and encouraged to do the next right thing.

The examples we must emulate cannot afford to factor in at the lowest common denominator. We should not celebrate mediocrity and should not honor misfortune. We should encourage the spirit that defies the odds and overcomes severe obstacles, benefiting all concerned[ii]. We must aspire to good works and great expectations to be the light and a shining example of bringing hope to a hopeless situation.

Two Shootings and a Racist Double Standard

n Kansas City, Missouri, Ralph Yarl, a 16-year-old teenager, was shot and wounded by the homeowner when he knocked on the wrong door. In Gastonia, North Carolina, Kinsley White, a 6-year-old girl was shot and wounded along with her parents when a basketball that children had been playing with rolled into a neighbor’s yard.

Ralph has already gotten a phone call from Joe Biden, and an offer to visit the White House. He has two lawyers representing him. His story has been splashed all over the national and even international media. The Washington Post has run no fewer than 17 stories about Ralph’s case: far more than the gangland funeral home shooting that actually took place in Washington D.C.

Kinsley, last heard tearfully asking, “Why did you shoot my daddy and me?” has not gotten a presidential phone call.

The very different treatment of the two stories would be baffling except for the one defining fact that to leftists explains everything in the universe and justifies all their power grabs and abuses.

Ralph, as you probably know from the media, was black and his shooter was white. Lest anyone miss this vital fact, the mainstream media incorporated it into headlines such as, “White Kansas City man Charged with Shooting Black Teen” and “Police Charge White Man for Shooting Black Teen Boy”.

Kinsley and her family are white. Their shooter was black. No media outlet would ever run a headline, “Black North Carolina Man Charged for Shooting White Kindergartener”.

Race is only a salient factor in a story if white people are the perpetrators, not the victims.

The media has already determined that the confused 84-year-old man who shot Ralph was a racist. The evidence for this so far has consisted of his race and claims by his dreadlocked grandson that he began watching a lot of FOX News after his wife was moved into a facility.

There’s no similar assumption that the 24-year-old black man who shot a white family was a racist. No one in the media has asked friends or family members how he felt about white people. The media would no more do such a thing than it would swap stories like “Ralph Yarl armed only with ‘black skin,’ family lawyer says” for, “Kinsley White armed only with ‘white skin’.

Shooting someone, as we know, is only wrong if they have the wrong or right skin color.

“Doug and I are praying for Ralph Yarl and his family as he fights for his life,” Kamala Harris obnoxiously tweeted. “Let’s be clear: No child should ever live in fear of being shot for ringing the wrong doorbell. Every child deserves to be safe. That’s the America we are fighting for.”

Ralph is not a child. He’s a 16-year-old teenage boy. Kinsley is a child. And because her skin is the wrong color, Kamala will never tweet about her or give a damn that she was shot.

That is racist. It’s a deeply evil attitude that, as Obama would tell us, is not who we are. But it is whom he helped make us. Anti-racist racism is everywhere and it has poisoned America.

Stripped of the race-baiting that has come to define the Democrats, their media and the entire movement, the Ralph Yarl case is no different than that of Kaylin Gillis, a young white woman, who was shot and killed when she and her boyfriend mistakenly pulled into the property of another elderly homeowner who came out with a gun and opened fire.

Since Kaylin’s shooter was also white, the media has a limited interest in the story.

“I had high hopes, and I had plans,” her boyfriend said. “I didn’t want to be with anybody else, and I wanted to spend the rest of my life with her. My world was taken from me Saturday.”

Had Kaylin been black, Biden and Kamala might have paid attention to the case. Maybe next time he loses the love of his life, he’ll have the sense to pick someone of the right race.

As we already learned from the Black Lives Matter riots, which tore the country apart over a few deaths in police custody while ignoring the thousands of black-on-black murders each year, murder isn’t wrong unless it’s committed by a white person against a black person.

A white person shooting a black person is a racist. A white person shooting a white person is just suffering from gun violence. A black person shooting a white person is suffering from racial trauma. And a black person shooting a black person was suffering from a lack of opportunities.

Or as incoming Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson said of the thugs who beat white people in Millenium Park, “it is not constructive to demonize youth who have otherwise been starved of opportunities in their own communities.”

It is also not constructive to demonize Robert Louis Singletary, who prior to shooting a 6-year-old girl and her parents, had assaulted his girlfriend with a sledgehammer but was allowed out anyway. He was probably starved of opportunities in his community.

The unfortunate truth is that Joe Biden, Kamala Harris and racial huckster lawyer Ben Crump, already greedily slurping at the thought of another big payout, and the entire media, don’t care about Ralph Yarl, any more than they care about Kinsley or Kaylin. The 16-year-old boy isn’t interesting to them on his own and had he been shot by a black man, he would have been just another statistic like the one out of every 1,000 young black men shot and killed in the year of BLM. The only reason that Biden called Ralph is because he was shot by a white man.

It’s really the white man they care about. And how he can be used as a racial caricature: the embodiment of all the evil white men who are oppressing black people all over America.

The white bogeyman whom Joe Biden, Kamala Harris and the rest of the gang promise to protect black people from as long as they keep voting for them and tolerating their criminality.

Black lives, white lives, no one’s lives matter to them, only elections do. Elections are the gateway to power and the entire purpose of their political movement is to take power.

Racism has been the platform and plank of the Democrats for longer than anything else. The party that once whipped up lynch mobs against black people by exploiting white victims now whips up lynch mobs against white people by exploiting black victims. The crime hasn’t changed, only the races have flipped.

The racists are just as racist, they just call themselves anti-racists now.

October 21, 2022 Former top Trump White House adviser and media executive Steve Bannon was sentenced to four months in jail for defying congressional subpoenas regarding the January 6 riot. The select committee compelled the Trump aide to turn over any documents related to the Capitol scuffle, but he refused to comply. Liberals probably are rejoicing as Bannon is reviled among their circles. Still, while a four-month jail sentence was handed down—the Department of Justice wanted six months—Bannon has vowed to fight to the bitter end. Judge Carl Nichols, a Trump appointee, rendered his judgment, admonishing Bannon for disrespecting the legislative branch but did admit in his ruling that Mr. Bannon does have ample grounds for appeal. He also said Bannon could remain free while that process is hashed out in the courts. John Adams defined a republic as a "government of laws, and not of men."  The concept of the United States as a republic is quickly becoming an illusion. Biden and the Left-wing Standard of Attacking Presidents

In just a few months Joe Biden has wrought a series of disasters that will invoke outrage that dwarfs the concocted anger directed at Donald Trump.

As Joe Biden entered office in January 2021, there still roared a left-wing revolution, a woke madness spreading through popular culture and Congress, much of which he indirectly has aided and abetted. It has redefined not just politics but the rules of the presidency. And the eventual casualty of these radical shifts in protocols and customs will be—Joe Biden.

Take impeachment, which heretofore had been rare and has still never led to a Senate conviction. Prior to Trump, Andrew Johnson and Bill Clinton were the only presidents to have been impeached (Richard Nixon resigned to avoid it), and both were acquitted in the Senate. 

Yet leftist congressional representatives introduced articles of impeachment the very first week Trump was in office, on the absurd allegation of profiting from his office (the presidency cost the Trump corporations hundreds of millions). The House later went on to impeach him twice, without writs of “treason” and “bribery” or even “high crimes and misdemeanors” as set out by the Constitution. Instead, Trump was, first, successfully impeached for supposedly abusing his power and obstructing Congress. I don’t think the average American has ever been pulled over by the police for the high crime “of obstructing Congress” (historically a presidential pastime) or has been charged with “abuse of power” (said of every president from Thomas Jefferson to Barack Obama). 

Trump’s second impeachment was even flimsier. He was accused of “incitement of insurrection” concerning disturbances on January 6 that supposedly led to the violent death of Officer Brian Sicknick, the fatal shooting of an unarmed Ashli Babbitt, and the entire fable of an “armed insurrection.” Post-impeachment, we would learn that Sicknick died of natural causes. Strangely, for months no information about the shooter of Ashli Babbitt or the inquiry into that fatal act was ever fully released to the public. No one was charged with armed insurrection, largely because none of the buffoonish rioters were found either to have carried or used a firearm that day or were exposed as master plotters with plans to destroy the U.S. government. They may well have been guilty of felonies, but armed insurrectionary conspiracy was not one of them.

No matter, the precedent had been set that serial impeachments now will be normative when a president in his first term loses party control of the House. Charges may not follow constitutional definitions. There will be no need to appoint a special counsel, to build a case on evidence, or to hold a formal hearing where witnesses present testimonies and are subject to cross-examination. There will be no expectation that the Senate will even come close to convicting an impeached president. Impeachment is simply now a political gambit to embarrass a party or a president before a reelection. Biden and future presidents as private citizens could be hounded after exiting office with a Senate impeachment trial.

Joe Biden by such new standards would then be in jeopardy should the Democrats lose the House in 2022, on the precedent that the Republicans could bring up anything they wished—unwillingness to enforce existing federal immigration law, deliberately misleading the American public on the growing catastrophe in Afghanistan, leveraging a foreign leader to lie with threats of withholding U.S. airpower to enhance his own political agenda, or empowerment of and collusion with his son Hunter Biden in past efforts to massage foreign governments for cash on the expectation of future advantageous U.S. government treatment. These may be flimsy charges for traditional impeachment; they are certainly not under the new Democratic model.

When Donald Trump’s confidential phone calls with foreign leaders were leaked to the press it was celebrated by the media and the Left as a sort of blood sport. Now are we to think the same of the embarrassing leaked phone call between Biden and the Afghan president? 

Donald Trump was impeached over a phone call with the Ukrainian president for supposedly pressuring Ukraine, by the threat of holding up foreign aid, to conduct an investigation of the Biden family syndicate’s shenanigans. So, what are we to make then of Biden’s demand that the Afghan president lie to the world so that his fragile government did not appear in jeopardy, even if, Biden acknowledged, it, of course, was—with the added insinuation that Biden’s commitment to support the Afghan government with U.S. military power was predicated on his compliance with parroting such lies?

We saw from 2017 to 2021 the precedent that both active and retired top Pentagon brass would either leak derogatory assessments of the commander-in-chief to the press, or overtly declare him to be morally unfit to hold office—all in violation of the Uniform Code of Military Justice. What then is the country to do, amid the Afghanistan catastrophe, when lots of retired generals are now going public with calls for their president’s key military and civilian office holders to resign for culpability for a series of foreign policy disasters? Is it a good thing for our generals and admirals to become editorialists and critics of an elected president’s administration or ill-conceived, both, neither—or sometimes, depending on who is president? 

In the Trump years, the Left institutionalized the new idea that threatening to invoke the 25th Amendment was a casual affair, a strategy appropriate to harming or removing a president. So the acting heads of the FBI and Justice Department apparently discussed plots to wear eavesdropping equipment to entrap Trump in recorded conversations that might reveal his alleged dementia. An Ivy League psychiatrist was called to Congress to swear that the president was non compos mentis and in need of a forced intervention. The media demanded proof of Trump’s sanity to the point he took—and aced—the Montreal Cognitive Assessment. 

Joe Biden is obviously suffering from some sort of organic illness that has reduced his mental faculties to the point he is often dazed. When he is rarely able to craft complete sentences, he says things that are incoherent, offensive, and occasionally racist. He seems to have no knowledge of current events and so reassures trapped Americans in Kabul that they can simply go to the besieged airport, show their passports, and waltz on in. 

Under the new protocols, are we to expect high Justice Department officials to record stealthily Biden’s private conversations, to subpoena an appropriate ivy league psychiatrist, or to ask the president to take a simple cognitive assessment test?

Under Joe Biden, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Mark Milley, sought to ingratiate himself to the woke movement, to his woke Secretary of Defense, and to Joe Biden by assuring Congress he would get to the root of “white rage” and in general recommend to his troops the relevant woke texts such as those of Professor Ibram X. Kendi.

Milley produced no evidence that there were lots of insurrectionary white supremacists in the military. He cared little in his virtue signaling that “white” male soldiers had died in Iraq and Afghanistan at twice their numbers in the general population—a cardinal sin under woke disparate impact and proportional representation canons.

Again, fine. But given the sometimes violent nature of Black Lives Matter, and its apparently proud Marxist origins, is it now equally OK for some future chairman to testify that he will go through the ranks to understand black rage as his Pentagon roots out would-be BLM extremists?

These hypocrisies are endless, given the pernicious precedents that so casually have now been embraced for cheap political advantage. 

Will the next Speaker of the House ritually tear up Biden’s State of the Union address, as he hands the text to him on national television? 

Will the Congress appoint a special counsel, allot him 22 months and $40 million to scour the Biden team to find the causes, origins, and those culpable of the greatest foreign policy debacle since the last days of Vietnam—with occasional side trips along the tortured family money trail and indifference to the IRS of Hunter Biden’s international grifting? 

Will retired Trump-era CIA and high-ranking intelligence officials go on cable television to wink and nod about their privileged security clearance information to accuse Biden of treasonous behavior?

Will they tweet that he and his policies are similar to those of the German death camps, or stamp him as Mussolini or Hitler-like? 

And will some “brave” disillusioned Democratic “loyalist” be canonized in the media as he falsely reassures the nation, as “Anonymous II,” that he is both high-ranking and representative of a large, dissident, and grassroots resistance to Biden within his own administration and party? Will the New York Times print his warning that an army of idealists is ready and willing to resist any Biden presidential order that it finds distasteful? Is that the political culture that Biden should now operate under? 

Did the NATO allies find Trump’s brashness—which resulted in a considerable increase in alliance military funding and readiness—as bad as Biden’s soothing words that betrayed our European partners and have all but ruined the alliance?

Was all this hypocrisy predicated on the idea that the Left will never lose power, or that its atrocious behavior was defensible for the moment given the accident of Donald Trump? Or do Democrats really believe there must be one standard for leftist moralists and another for their supposed inferiors, on their blinkered assumption that there would never be a Democratic president as controversial and disliked by the Right as Donald Trump was by the Left?

The truth is that in just a few months Joe Biden has wrought a series of disasters that will invoke outrage that dwarfs the concocted anger directed at Donald Trump. And it may be vented through the very protocols that the Left invented for its own short-term advantage.

Why the Left Ignores the Killing of a Pakistani Immigrant Uber Driver

America is drowning in left-wing lies. And it is being asphyxiated by the left's substitution of "social justice" for justice.

On March 23, Mohammad Anwar of Springfield, Virginia, a 66-year-old immigrant from Pakistan earning his living as an Uber Eats driver, was killed by two girls, ages 13 and 15. They carjacked Anwar, Tasered him, and then, as he held on to the car (the source of his livelihood) in an attempt to stop them from stealing it, floored the gas pedal and crashed the car, killing him when he was thrown from the vehicle.

As reported the next day in the Washington Post:

Anwar tried to force his way back into the car by climbing on top of the teen in the driver’s seat, (Detective Chad Leo of the Washington, D.C., police homicide unit) said. Before he could get all the way in, though, the 13-year-old reached over from the passenger seat, turned on the ignition and ‘manipulated’ the gear shift, Leo said. With Anwar ‘hanging outside the car’ through the open driver’s door, Leo said, the vehicle lurched forward and accelerated down the block, made a sharp right turn, struck a curb and overturned, landing passenger side up. Anwar was ejected and suffered broken bones and injury to his head.

After the unharmed girls climbed out and joined the onlookers milling around the car, one of them could be heard yelling, “My phone is in there!”  and, “He has my phone!”

I found no mainstream media that identified the girls as black.  In the aforementioned Washington Post story, there was no mention of the girls’ race, just, “Two girls ages 13 and 15 have been charged with felony murder.”..............America is drowning in left-wing lies. And it is being asphyxiated by the left’s substitution of “social justice” for justice. The two girls, who committed a very adult crime, will not be charged as adults, will likely not be imprisoned, and very possibly will not even be punished. The Face of Evil

Michel Foucault is the intellectual godfather of the modern Left. I have always found this fact strange, as his theories, to the extent they are intelligible, are obviously wrong. But they formed the basis for such leftist staples as identity politics and sexual confusion, and so, coherent or not, they were welcomed enthusiastically by liberals.

Foucault has long been known to have been, personally, a sinister figure. At the Epoch Times, Roger Simon writes about recent revelations of Foucault’s history. Roger starts with the scandal of Major League Baseball weighing in on behalf of voter fraud, one of endless instances of virtue signaling and moral narcissism. Then, on to Foucault:

[J]ust who is this godfather of “woke”?  Well, there’s a lot of convoluted graduate school rhetoric, but it turns out the reality of the man may not be very flattering. Rumors of a certain amount of perversion have surrounded Foucault for some time but now testimony has surfaced that is distinctly “unwoke.”

I am not sure I agree with Roger here. Are the “woke” actually opposed to perversion? I doubt it............ 

The interesting question, to me, is whether a man who is a moral monster can nevertheless produce sound philosophy. I think the answer is No. On the Left, it is fashionable to nit-pick great men like George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln and Winston Churchill. But the men and women who founded what we now know as conservatism were good, if inevitably imperfect, people.

Conversely, the icons of the Left–Karl Marx, Vladimir Lenin, Fidel Castro, Che Guevara, Michel Foucault and many more–were hideously deformed and evil. I think a flawed man or woman–which is to say, a normal person–can produce sound political and social philosophy. But I think it is impossible for a moral leper like Michel Foucault to produce anything good or useful. When Black Mass Shooters Kill Asians, It’s Not a Hate Crime

 "Those Asian officers who stand by and observe everything I previously mentioned," Christopher Dorner wrote in his manifesto. "You are a high value target as well."

The black mass shooter's first target was Monica Quan, the Asian-American daughter of Randall Quan, the first Chinese-American to become an LAPD captain.

Monica was shot three times in the back of the head. Afterward, Dorner called her father and told him that he "should have done a better job of protecting his daughter."

The media coverage of Dorner’s shooting spree focused on the racist rants about white police officers (or caucasians) in his manifesto, but there was very little discussion of his hatred for Asian-Americans even though he had named them as targets in his hateful screed.

When black mass shooters kill Asian people, the media tries to gloss over it.

Colin Ferguson's mass shooting in the 90s on a New York train is remembered largely for the decision by his radical leftist lawyers, William Kunstler and Ron Kuby to use the “Black Rage” defense. Shortly before his death, Kunstler argued that black people are entitled to rage.

But what is often forgotten is that two of the six people whom Ferguson murdered were Asian.

Maria Theresa Tumangan Magtoto was the daughter of an official with the Philippine Senate. Mi Kyung Kim, a Korean-American, had been working as a library assistant at Columbia.

A third of the men and women whom Ferguson killed were Asians.

This wasn't a coincidence. Notes in Ferguson's pockets were scribbled with rants about white people, "Uncle Toms", and "Chinese" people. None of the Asian-Americans he shot were actually Chinese, but the racist gunman didn't seem to care.

“When Louis Farrakhan mentioned Mr. Ferguson at a New York rally on Dec. 18, his audience erupted in an ovation”, “The Hate That Hate Begot”, a New York Daily News article, noted.

“God spoke to Colin Ferguson and said, 'Catch the train, Colin, catch the train’”, the Nation of Islam’s Khalid Abdul Muhammad declared at Howard University.

When John Allen Muhammad went on his rampage, his victims included Hong Im Ballenger, a Korean immigrant who ran a beauty supply store. As the D.C. sniper’s last name showed, he had been a member of Farrakhan’s black supremacist Nation of Islam hate group.

The Nation of Islam believes that non-black people were created through a eugenics program by a mad scientist from the original black race. “Asians want to know if we are targeting all Asian business. We know Asians have targeted Black communities to exploit. The JIG IS UP," Jeffery Muhammad, the Nation of Islam leader in Dallas, had warned.

This sort of anti-Asian hate extends into the highest reaches of the Democrats and the media.

Before Al Sharpton was an MSNBC host, a Democrat presidential candidate with a DNC speaking slot, and a Democrat kingmaker, he was leading boycotts of Korean stores.

Sharpton had supported the infamous Family Red Apple boycott at which racist mobs had called the owners, "yellow monkeys" and chanted, "Koreans, go home." The Freddy’s Fashion Mart protests, led by Morris Powell, head of the Buy Black Committee at Sharpton’s National Action Network, later turned lethal, culminating in the murders of seven people.

While the motive there was antisemitism and the victims were mostly young Latino women, the fire was followed by threats of violence against Korean stores in Harlem.

And Powell had cut his teeth on black supremacist boycotts of Asian businesses.

In a previous boycott incident at the Victory Fish Market, he had allegedly fractured the skull of Kim Soo Yea: the wife of the store owner.

The National Action Network has since been addressed by every top Democrat from Obama to Biden to Elizabeth Warren and Kamala Harris.

The Democrats have jumped eagerly on the spa shootings. Their media insists that the shooter could not have been a sex addict motivated by his own disorder, as he said, but that he must be a racist who hated Asian people, while refusing to make a reckoning with the publicly stated hatred for Asian people of black mass shooters like Colin Ferguson and Christopher Dorner.

The spa shootings emerged as a convenient distraction from the protests over the escalating criminal assaults on Asian people in California and New York by mostly black perpetrators.

“The perpetrator in some cases has been African American,” San Francisco Mayor London Breed had said. “And as an African American woman, as the mayor of your city, I am here to hold everyone accountable.”

That was not the media’s agenda.

Back in February, Time was scolding Asian-American victims and telling them that they needed to figure out “how to tackle anti-Asian violence without relying on law enforcement institutions that have historically targeted Black and brown communities”.

After the spa shootings, headlines like "Advocates Discourage Anti-Black Sentiment Amid Violence Against Asians" and the clumsy attempts to falsely ascribe attacks by black men on elderly Asian people to President Trump and whiteness ("This violence is caused by a system that makes working people compete against each other for scraps of what the wealthy possess," Oakland City Councilwoman Carroll Fife) gave way to political relief for Democrats.

The media spread the false claim that a police spokesman had dismissed the attack as a case of the perpetrator having a “bad day”. Even though neither the police nor the FBI had found a racial motive, the media spread its racism narrative without even the tiniest trace of evidence.

It makes little difference to the actual case. Even now, at the peak of the Democrat pro-crime policy wave where criminals are let loose for slashings and robberies, a mass murderer is never going to set foot outside the prison system whether or not he’s charged with a hate crime.

But there’s a great deal politically at stake for the Democrat media which is seizing the opportunity to deflect a politically problematic crisis back into politically safe waters.

Racist killers don’t make a big secret of their hate. White supremacist mass shooters like Dylann Roof at the Mother Emanuel church in Charleston and Robert Bowers at the Tree of Life synagogue in Pittsburgh, or black supremacist shooters, like Micah X. Johnson in Dallas or David Anderson at the Kosher market in Jersey City, left their ugly beliefs in public view.

Dorner and Ferguson had notes and manifestos.

The media spends a lot more time talking about politically convenient mass killers than inconvenient ones. It’s why Robert Bowers got so much more coverage than David Anderson. It’s also why Colin Ferguson and Dylann Roof received a very different reception.

It is wholly possible to be an evil person without being a bigot. The average serial killer is not a racist. He’s just wholly devoid of empathy and enjoys the pain and suffering of others. Not every crime needs to be viewed through the narrow academic lens of prejudice: let alone ‘whiteness’.

But much as Communists couldn’t see the world in any terms other than class, Wokies can’t understand any event except by shoving it into their identity politics prism. Some things fit into that prism, others can be made to fit with enough fake news, and still others will never fit and have to be ignored, covered up, and buried at midnight in the media graveyard of dead stories.

The media is no longer in the business of reporting stories, but of politically reconciling them in the same way that Pravda reporters had to reconcile events with Marxism-Leninism. The media politically confronts events, and tries to understand them, before distilling their understanding.

Journalism has become an academic enterprise of grad students treating every event like an opportunity to unload critical race theory lectures so that the public can be properly educated.

But now that the media is suddenly interested in mass shooters who target Asians, it might want to revisit Ferguson and Dorner who actually targeted Asians and wrote about doing it, instead of trying to ascribe a racial motive to a monster who left behind no evidence of being a bigot.

The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday denied efforts to require former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to face a deposition over her unsecured email setup while she served in the Obama administration.  In an unsigned order issued with no comment, the justices denied an appeal from the conservative legal group Judicial Watch, mainly keeping in place a federal appeals court ruling from last August which stated that Clinton could not be forced to sit for a deposition.  Judicial Watch had wanted to depose Clinton, her aide Cheryl Mills, and other State Department employees over Clinton’s use of an unsecured personal email server — even for classified information — in a case seeking public access to State Department emails..........To Read More...

The Racist Sound of 'Whiteness Is a Pandemic'

The Root is obviously a hyperbolically racial magazine, since its slogan is "The Blacker the Content the Sweeter the Truth." It's not surprising that it frequently publishes writer Damon Young, author of the memoir "What Doesn't Kill You Makes You Blacker." We're told he asked important and dramatic questions like "Will this white person's potato salad kill me?"

Young's memoir was honored as "required reading" by NPR and celebrated by Entertainment Weekly and The Washington Post, among others. He became a contributing opinion writer for The New York Times.

The paranoia overflowed from this self-described "professional Black person" on St. Patrick's Day. Young posted a piece titled "Whiteness Is a Pandemic." This was not a joke. It began: 

"Whiteness is a public health crisis. It shortens life expectancies, it pollutes air, it constricts equilibrium, it devastates forests, it melts ice caps, it sparks (and funds) wars, it flattens dialects, it infests consciousnesses, and it kills people -- white people and people who are not white, my mom included. There will be people who die, in 2050, because of white supremacy-induced decisions from 1850."

We can all imagine what might happen professionally to a writer if he were to pen this kind of foam-flecked copy but instead talk about "Blackness." It'd be denounced as virulently racist. But to hate everything about the infestation of Caucasians is not defined as "hate speech." It's somehow "anti-racist."............To Read More....

Across America, breaking the law often means there are no consequences

Let’s begin with the conclusion so as not to keep anyone waiting: Punishment under the law is no longer acceptable in a “woke” society. One may still be subjected to legal prosecution if the crime threatens the Left, as happened to Donald Trump, Carter Paige, and Michael Flynn. “Truth,” however, has nothing to do with such prosecutions of convenience, although punishment is highly acceptable under informal social norms. So, we have “cancel culture” that can ruin a person’s life in an afternoon, moving right along until the victim enters his eternal rest.

Rejecting legal punishment except in political cases can be seen in the West Coast’s aversion to prosecuting street crimes such as trespassing, mugging, and serious violence resulting in bodily injury. Just this afternoon, as I am writing, Portland, Oregon has decided not to prosecute someone who drove into a Proud Boy in a parking lot and then left the scene. In the olden days, this was a pure crime, but unworthy of charges at this time and in that venue.

In another case, the prosecutor of a case told the murder victim’s family to “keep their mouth shut.” If victims and their families have no standing, punishment is increasingly irrelevant. The proper “woke” attitude towards victims is that all that happened to them was they had some really bad luck.

From where does this impulse to ignore punishment arise? Most rationalizations explaining this phenomenon do not interest me. I have my own!..............To Read More....

 

Anger Privilege

If you want to know who has privilege in a society and who doesn’t, follow the anger.

There are people in this country who can safely express their anger. And those who can’t. If you’re
angry that Trump won, your anger is socially acceptable. If you were angry that Obama won, it wasn’t. If you’re black and angry about the police, your anger is celebrated. If you’re white and angry about , or any leftist cause, you’re on the side of the angry angels.

But if you’re angry that your job is going to China or that you just missed being killed in a Muslim suicide bombing, your anger is unacceptable.

Not all anger is created equal. Some anger is privileged rage.

If you hang up an effigy of a Democrat governor while protesting the lockdowns, you will lose your job. But if you topple statues, loot stores, or throw bricks at police, celebrities funded by corporations will help bail you out. Violence, like anger, is also a matter of privilege. Only some get to do it.

Public acts of violence are not a symptom of oppression, but of privilege.

Good anger gets you a gig as a CNN commentator. Bad anger gets you hounded out of your job. Good anger isn’t described as anger at all. Instead it’s linguistically whitewashed as “passionate” or “courageous”. Bad anger however is “worrying” or “dangerous”. Angry left-wing protesters “call out”, angry right-wing protesters “threaten”. Good anger is left-wing. Bad anger is right-wing.

Socially acceptable displays of anger, from Occupy Wall Street to Black Lives Matter riots to the anti-Trump marches to the furious campus protests, are invariably left-wing. They're never described as dangerous even when they trash, loot, kill, and burn cities to the ground. That's privilege.

Why were chants of “Lock her up” immoderate, but not Bush era cries of “Jail to the chief”? Why were Tea Party rallies “ominous” but throwing Molotov cocktails at cops is “courageous”? Why is killing Trump on stage the hottest thing to hit Shakespeare while a rodeo clown who wore an Obama mask was hounded by everyone from the Lieutenant Governor of Missouri to the NAACP?

Not all anger is equal. Anger, like everything else, is ideologically coded. Left-wing anger is good because its ideological foundations are good. Right-wing anger is bad because its ideology is bad.

It’s not the level of anger, its intensity or its threatening nature that makes it good or bad.

And that is why the left so easily slips into violence. All its ideological ends are good. Therefore its means, from mass starvation to gulags to riots and tyranny, must be good. If I slash your tires because of your Obama bumper sticker”, I’m a monster. But if you key my car because of my Trump bumper sticker, you’re fighting racism and fascism. Your tactics might be in error, but your viewpoint isn’t.

There are no universal standards of behavior. Civility, like everything else, is ideologically limited.

Intersectionality frowns on expecting civil behavior from “oppressed” protesters. Asking that shrieking campus crybully not to scream threats in your face is “tone policing”. A black millionaire’s child at Yale is fighting for her “existence”, unlike the Pennsylvania coal miner, the Baltimore police officer and the Christian florist whose existences really are threatened.

Tone policing is how the anger of privileged leftists is protected while the frustration of their victims is suppressed. The existence of tone policing as a specific term to protect displays of left-wing anger shows the collapse of civility into anger privilege. Civility has been replaced by a political entitlement to anger.

The left prides itself on an unearned moral superiority (“When they go low, we go high”) reinforced by its own echo chamber even as it has become incapable of controlling its angry outbursts. The national tantrum after Trump’s victory has all but shut down the government, turned every media outlet into a non-stop feed of conspiracy theories and set off protests that quickly escalated into street violence.

But Trump Derangement Syndrome is a symptom of a problem with the left that existed before he was born and one that continues even in contexts where he isn't the issue. The left is an angry movement. It is animated by an outraged self-righteousness whose moral superiority doubles as dehumanization. And its machinery of culture glamorizes its anger. The media dresses up the seething rage so that the left never has to look at its demons in the mirror of its soul.

The left is as angry as ever. Campus riots and assassinations of Republican politicians are nothing new. What is changing is that its opponents are beginning to match its anger. The left still clings to the same anger it had when it was a theoretical movement with plans, but little impact on the country. The outrage at the left is no longer ideological. There are millions of people whose livelihoods were ruined, whose rights were taken away, whose land was seized, and whose children were turned against them. There are people whose small businesses have been shut down or burned to the ground.

The angry left has gained a great deal of power. It has used that power to wreck lives. But monopolies on anger only work in totalitarian states. In a free society, both sides are expected to control their anger and find terms on which to debate and settle issues. The left rejects civility and refuses to control its anger. The only settlement it will accept is absolute power. If an election doesn’t go its way, it will overturn the results. If someone offends it, he must be punished. Or there will be anger.

The angry left demands that everyone recognize the absolute righteousness of its anger as the basis for its power. This anger privilege, like tone policing, is often cast in terms of oppressed groups. But its anger isn’t in defiance of oppression, but in pursuit of oppression.

Anger privilege is used to silence opposition, to enforce illegal policies and to seize power. But the left’s monopolies on anger are cultural, not political. The entertainment industry and the media can enforce anger privilege norms through public shaming, but their smears can’t stop the consequences of the collapse of civility in public life. There are no monopolies on emotion.

When anger becomes the basis for political power, then it won’t stop with Howard Dean or Bernie Sanders. That’s what the left found out in the last election. Its phony pearl clutching was a reaction to the consequences of its destruction of civility. Its reaction to that show of anger by conservatives and independents was to escalate the conflict. Instead of being the opposition, the left became the “resistance”. Trump was simultaneously Hitler and a traitor. Republicans were evil beasts.

Anger has to go somewhere.

The left likes to think that its anger is good anger because it’s angry over the plight of illegal aliens, Muslim terrorists, transgender bathrooms, the lack of abortion in South Carolina, the minimum wage at Taco Bell, budget cuts, tax cuts, police arrests, drone strikes and all the other ways in which reality differs from its utopia. But all that anger isn’t the road to a better world, but to hate and violence.

Millions of leftists are told every day that Republicans are responsible for everything wrong with their lives, the country and the planet. Despite everything they do, all the petitions they sign, the marches they attend, the donations, the angry letters, the social media rants, Republicans continue to exist and even be elected to public office. Where does that anger go?

Either we have a political system based on existing laws and norms of civility. Or we have one based on coups and populist leftist anger. And there are already a whole bunch of those south of the border.

Leftist anger is a privileged bubble of entitlement that bursts every other election. Its choice is to try to understand the rest of the country or to intimidate, censor, oppress and eventually kill them.
