American Law Schools: Becoming More and More Dysfunctional

Law school in The United States used to be merely a needless barrier to entry into the market for legal services, helping to keep down competition. Starting back in the 1920s, the American Bar Association started flexing its muscles to prevail upon states to forbid anyone from taking the bar exam who hadn’t graduated from an ABA-accredited law school. The ABA insisted that law school take three years. Prior to that time, many lawyers attended shorter law school programs or learned what they needed to know on the job without going to law school at all.

The simple fact of the matter is that there is no piece of knowledge or skill that can only be learned sitting in a law school classroom. The mandatory three years of that is entirely unnecessary. (I have been making that argument for a long time; see, e.g., this 1997 article in Regulation magazine.)

Then, starting in the 1970s, the academic left began infiltrating law schools with courses and programs intended to turn out “progressive” radicals, as Professor Charles Rounds explained in a 2010 article for the James G. Martin Center, “Bad Sociology, Not Law.”.............To Read More.....

The confirmation process of Ketanji Brown Jackson to the Supreme Court is an opportunity for the GOP - By Rajan Laad -  Last month, Joe Biden pledged to nominate "the first Black woman ever to the United States Supreme Court." Why the Russians Are Struggling

As the sun goes down in Kyiv, the city has not yet fallen to the Russians. This is unquestionably a defeat for Vladimir Putin. It’s important to not get carried away here: The Kremlin is still favored to win this fight. But the last three days of combat should put a serious dent in the reputation of this new Russian army. We should, however, try to understand why the Russians are struggling. First, the Russian army’s recent structural reforms do not appear to have been sufficient to the task at hand. Second, at the tactical and operational level, the Russians are failing to get the most out of their manpower and materiel advantage.

There has been much talk over the last ten years about the Russian army’s modernization and professionalization. After suffering severe neglect in the ’90s, during Russia’s post-Soviet financial crisis, the army began to reorganize and modernize with the strengthening of the Russian economy under Putin. First the army got smaller, at least compared to the Soviet Red Army, which allowed a higher per-soldier funding ratio than in previous eras. The Russians spent vast sums of money to modernize and improve their equipment and kit — everything from new models of main battle tanks to, in 2013, ordering Russian troopers to finally retire the traditional portyanki foot wraps and switch to socks.

But the Russians have also gone the wrong direction in some areas. In 2008, the Russian government cut the conscription term from 24 to twelve months. As Gil Barndollar, a former U.S. Marine infantry officer, wrote in 2020:

Russia currently fields an active-duty military of just under 1 million men. Of this force, approximately 260,000 are conscripts and 410,000 are contract soldiers (kontraktniki). The shortened 12-month conscript term provides at most five months of utilization time for these servicemen. Conscripts remain about a quarter of the force even in elite commando (spetsnaz) units.

As anyone who has served in the military will tell you, twelve months is barely enough time to become proficient at simply being a rifleman. It’s nowhere near enough time for the average soldier to learn the skills required to be an effective small-unit leader..........To Read More....

My Take - Russia has a serious demographic problem. I don't know what the numbers are now but about five years ago they only had enough manpower to defend three of their seven defensive gaps.   And that all important 15 to 50 age group is rife with drug use, alcoholism, drug resistant TB and AIDS.  I think the author is correct in there are few or no reserves that can be thrown in.

Goldberg and Behar Two Bestial Oddities

Whoopi Goldberg and Joy Behar are two bestial oddities that prove you can put lipstick and mascara on porkers.  That said, the nearly two-year relationship and engagement between Goldberg and Ted Danson validates the old bromide that “there’s somebody for everybody – if you’re willing to take anybody.”  Albeit one is justified in questioning why Danson, the former Cheers sit-com superstar would pay $30 million – one of the most expensive divorce settlements in Hollywood history at the time, to wake up next to something like Goldberg without makeup every morning.  But, I digress.

Let me get back to the subject at hand, which is just how contemptible and Erebusic Goldberg, Behar and those like them are in reality.  It’s beyond my ability to grasp how any man with a quantitative measure of self-esteem could be seen at the same landfill with either of them much less co-habit with them.

I have personal interest and investment regarding Russia’s invasion of the Ukraine.  My investment is based upon human currency that is based upon the family of those who have been my personal friends for many, many, many years.  The entire family of my dear friend’s wife is from the Ukraine and at this very moment many of them are under threat and loss of life from the invasion.

These are the nuclear family as well as the extended family, relatives and their friends.  I’ve been receiving personal updates since the invasion began.  This is not some isolated occurrence for my close friends or for myself.  There are real names and faces involved.

But for Behar, the only concern is whether Russian imperialism and deadly aggression will interfere with her personal vacation plans to Italy this summer. Behar’s lament is: why’s this taking place now?  In her mind why couldn’t Putin have waited until October?  In her self-obsessed, it’s all about me-laden jeremiad she whined: “I’ve wanted to go to Italy for four years.  I haven’t been able to make it because of the pandemic – and now this, you know.”

How sad for her, that her highly anticipated 5-star luxury vacation to Italy was potentially being threatened with interruption by a loathsome Russian warmonger taking advantage of a sniveling, cognitively-impaired, diaper wearing empty-suit in Washington, making believe he’s leader.  However as I type this very sentence, I received word from my personal friends that the city their family reside in the Ukraine, this very moment was under heavy rocket attack. For them any thoughts/plans for vacation have been surrendered to thoughts of survival and freedom.

We all recall Whoopi Goldberg, the coat-hanger queen of kill your children using the industrialized abortion complex she supports and funds, when she recently opined that the Holocaust wasn’t about race.  She was suspended for two-weeks; it remains unclear if her suspension was with or without pay.

Her suspension was meant with outrage; after-all, Jew-hating remarks by a creature who uses a Jewish sir-name and supports all the most vile and demonic behaviors know to man today makes her a good person.  It takes no imagination to guess what the outcry would be today weeks later if someone dared say slavery wasn’t over so-called skin color.  Which in fact it wasn’t about so-called skin color.  Slavery was about commerce for the Ivory Coast Africans hunters of other Africans to be sold and industry in the parts of the world they were sold including the South.  It was the Democrats who demonized melanin to suppress and subjugate.

Goldberg’s comments prove she is as ignorant as she gives all appearance of being unclean, and Behar’s comments are the typical self-obsessed, I’m better than you because I’m a three brain cell Hollywood liberal.

Moral-opprobriousness and rejection of modernity is the mantra and engrained emblem imprinted upon the very being of those matriculating within the social-dystopia heralded as the dwelling place of the elite. But it’s those who watch this programming and those who support the programming with their ad dollars that I condemn most harshly.  We know that Goldberg and Behar are bestial entities; but, what does that make the people who watch the programming every day and those who go out of their way to purchase the products advertised on the show?

The only reason vile invidious amoral programming soils the airways are because a state of equipoise has developed between the godless and the spiritual moribund – which, all who are Christians and students of the Word of God, should recognize as Romans 1:21-32 KJV.

Counterpoint: What If This is WW3? - In previous articles and posts I made the case that this is by no stretch of the imagination World War 3. Despite Putin’s saber rattling, this is an attempt by Russia to reclaim another vital chunk of its former empire and the Soviet Union.  It may be more grandiose, but still limited.  This counterpoint contemplates another possibility. Russian military doctrine thrives on the maskirovka. The obvious manifestation of this came when the Russian regime insisted repeatedly it was not about to invade Ukraine, right before it invaded Ukraine. Observers have noted Russia’s stumbling military tactics in the invasion, particularly the lack of proper air power deployment.  It’s inconceivable that the Ukrainian air force should be operating at all at this late date, and yet it is. ..........4 comments

A pity that Jackie Mason is no longer around to tell it. I can't think of any issue that Biden has less credibility on than optimism. And that's saying something. Worse still it smacks of a Carteresque moment.  Americans don't hire leaders to tell them about optimism.  Inspirational messages are nice, but when detached from real action, are just hollow posturing ................1 comment 

Biden Wants to Declare Victory on COVID. He Can't - Before Ukraine became the big story, the centerpiece of the Biden State of the Union address was supposed to be the declaration that the war on COVID had finally been won.  Of course the war had not been won. The rapid collapse of mask mandates is not the result of some massive breakthrough in science, it’s the result of polling which firmly established that the majority of the country was sick and tired of the public health security state. And those polls followed severe political defeats in elections, particularly Virginia, brought on by the bottomless greed of teachers’ unions which insisted on shutting down schools. The Media Are Children Behaving Badly

When viewing my stats I will occasionally find old articles that are being hit.  I have no idea why, but when that happens I go back and read them to see what's interesting to readers.  And if the article remains profound, I update it and republish it, as I am with this piece, which I originally published on Thursday, February 9, 2012.  With current events, I think this is worth republishing. 

Some months back, which means over ten years ago now, I read a commentary about the official lies promoted by the Soviet government that was a complete reversal of historical fact. The commentator bemoaned the fact that this has continued into current times and that so many of the youth had been so indoctrinated by these lies they were incapable of understanding the truth.

He went on to say: 

“At the same time we continually hear official lies in Russian daily life, reminiscent of the lies in the Soviet Union during Stalinism and in the post-Stalin period,”….“The truth can hardly stand up to the total impact of so many lies. A young man once said to me of the Prague Spring: ‘That was when the Czechs attacked us.’ …“Brought up on lies, a society cannot mature or take on responsibility. It is an adolescent society, with all the characteristics of adolescence—needing a leader and his imitators, being aggressive and quick to take offense, simultaneously lying and trusting.”

It's been fifty years ago now (Boy-o-boy, am I getting old or what?) I had an acquaintance who had been in the Czech army when the Soviet Union sent its tanks into what was then Czechoslovakia to crush the Prague Spring. The only reason he wasn’t there at the time was because he was on leave and had traveled to visit relatives in the U.S.A. 

So when the Soviets came into Czechoslovakia he never went back. He "knew" everything including the “fact” that Hitler and Stalin never signed a non-aggression pact. He confidently and smugly laughed saying, “you don’t really believe such a thing do you?” As if Stalin could ever commit such a heinous act.  Imagine that!

Here was a guy defending the very oppressors he was fleeing. Why? Because he had been indoctrinated since the end of WWII into believing Stalin was a great man. Indoctrination from a very young age can make someone as foolish as ideology can make smart people stupid.  I said I can prove it, to which he once again laughed...smugly....and said if I could prove it he's move back to Czechoslovakia, which meant prison since now he was a deserter.   I dug out the historical references, gave them to him and said - Have a nice trip.  He said it was all lies.  No refutation and no rational arguments.  It was a lie, and that was the end of it for him.

This story is foundational to the rest of the article.  Remember, even today there are revisionists who claim that Stalin didn’t really kill all those people; and if he did kill them; he did it to stop the really insane communists from killing more. And this is after all the monstrous facts have been made public by of all people Nikita Khrushchev.  Why do people continue to believe things that actually defy all factual history, not to mention the evidence of their own eyes? Ideology! It's really true that ideology makes smart people dumb!

As I watch the world, read the news and watched as little of it as I did on TV in those days, which I don't watch at all now, I concluded that the lefties may be right about their intelligence.  Lefties are always trying to publish studies that show that leftists are so much smarter than conservatives. Well…..I’m not so sure they aren’t right. Why? Because in order to bring reality into line with what they claim they believe must require an enormous level of mental ability and logical gymnastics.  All of which must be mentally and emotionally exhausting in order to make the insane things they say and do seem right.

Conservatives only have to concern themselves with facts. What's right and what's wrong based on history and what they see going on in reality; as in one and one is two. Try making it three or four or fifty without sounding insane. This kind of mental gymnastics is something only the left can excel at with the goal of making insanity seem rational to the casual observer.  Why?  Because the left has no parameters, and no moral foundation except to do and say whatever it takes to get power..

I watched O’Reilly occasionally in those days - I couldn't take too much of O’Reilly because I thought he’s a phony, and time seems to support that.  At any rate, he had Monica Crowley and Alan Colmes on his show.  Colmes did the five things that are common among the leftists. He wouldn’t stop talking, he interrupted, he talked over everyone, he subtly changed the subject and spewed out logical fallacies by the minute.

Changing the subject is a red herring fallacy leftists use constantly in order to prevent a response to their already insane views. If you doubt me all you had to do is watch Geraldo or one of the other leftists on these talk shows. They won’t shut up, they won’t let others have their say without zings that have nothing to do with the subject at hand, they use personal insults, and smugly at that, as if their personal attacks are intellectually substantive.  I find them to be self righteous, obnoxious, rude, smug, inaccurate in their statements, and nothing but a leftist stooges for the Democrat party.  This is a common problem when dealing with leftists.  They’re talking when they should be listening. They remind me of unruly children, and like all unruly children a good slap would do them a world of good.

It really is true….…

That is the left. That's what we see on the news. Children behaving badly! This is why the Main Stream Media identify so readily with the youthful losers in the Occupy Wall Street movement and justify the violence of BLM, Antifa, and the wild ravings of the Squad, while the rest of the country readily identify with the adults in what was the Tea Party Movement, a trend that's becoming a tidal wave against the leftist vileness the Democrat party is imposing on the nation.

Definition leads to clarity, so let's try to get his right....just once....please.   The left isn't just wrong, it's evil.  Once we grasp that everything else falls into place.
