This cartoon appears in Dan Mitchell's commentary on the EU, and is reflective of what has been my view for a number of years. I predicted the demise of the EU by 2025, and I think that's a good prediction, but if not, by 2030. But no matter the date, the EU is doomed, and so to is Europe unless we see a huge philosophical turn around among western European countries. And we won't.
Immigration, green initiatives, especially involving energy, spending, taxes and regulations are killing Europe, and it appears nothing is going to stop their collapse, along with the UK. Their debt load, along with much of the rest of the world, is massive, and unpayable, especially now with the impact the insane policies implemented regarding this false covid pandemic, the collapse of the trading systems of the world and Putin's insane invasion of Ukraine.
There are four commentaries today, two of them are mine and I think they're pretty good, but then, I'm a bit prejudiced. Oops, does that make me a racist? And there are eleven linked articles I thought were profound and provocative. America is in crisis, and so too is the world. I subscribe to geopolitical sites and the information regarding the amount of instability in the world today that comes in to me daily is mind boggling. I actually find it hard to read. Solution? You tell me.
I just finished reading Blind Spot, Hidden Biases of Good People, which deals with statistics, and the impact happiness and well being have on elections and changes of government, even if the economy is good. Life really is all about "the basics". It's not the kind of book one can't wait to rush home to after work to in order to read the next chapter, but for those who are into understanding how and why people do what they do, it's worth your time, especially if you write about those things.
In the meanwhile, enjoy today's offerings.
