Is there a new scientific consensus forming around global cooling? That’s what environmentalist Lawrence Solomon writes in the Financial Post, citing the fact that solar activity is decreasing at the fastest rate as anytime in the last 10,000 years.
“Now an increasing number of scientists are swinging back to the thinking of the 1960s and 1970s,” Solomon writes. “The global cooling hypothesis may have been right after all, they say. Earth may be entering a new Little Ice Age.”......Read the full story ›
My Take - Over the years I have said that in science everything that is today's 'absolute truth' will become tomorrow's 'absolute nonsense'! As general rule that's largely true because humanity keeps discovering new 'truths'. Does this apply across the board?
There're issues with Newton's laws of gravity, there're issues with Einsteins Theory of Relativity - none of which I understand and only read about - but fundamentally their observations were sound and will remain so. But when we have ideological 'science' promoted by press release, this will almost always be true. Government grant money has made scientific integrity an oxymoron. Preconceptual Science has become the norm; not the exception! What is Preconceptual Science you ask? I'm glad you asked.
Normally, I wouldn't much care what they think except when these activist scientist come up with data that generates policy decisons which end up causing terrible harm to humanity, I have an issue with that. The ban of DDT is the unending example of such actions. The one thing we need to keep in mind is this; these people never end up paying the penalty for being wrong. Society not only pays the cost of implementation for these wrong headed policies, but society pays for the cost of failure. Many times with their lives.
