Former Charles Manson Follower Leslie Van Houten Paroled After 53 Years

Joel B. Pollak

Leslie Van Houten, the former follower of Charles Manson who was convicted in 1971 of two notorious 1969 murders, was paroled and left a state prison in California on Tuesday.

The New York Times reported:

Ms. Van Houten’s lawyer, Nancy Tetreault, said she was taken early Tuesday morning to transitional housing at an undisclosed location. “She’s going to have to learn to live in the world after 53 years in prison,” Ms. Tetreault said in an interview. “So that’s going to take some time.”…

Ms. Van Houten was 19 when she and other members of the so-called Manson family broke into the home of wealthy grocer Leno LaBianca and his wife, Rosemary, and stabbed them dozens of times on Aug. 10, 1969.

The LaBiancas were murdered one night after five people were killed at the home of movie director Roman Polanski — including his pregnant wife, the actress Sharon Tate. The murders were carried out at the direction of Charles Manson, one of the most notorious murderers of the 20th century, who died in 2017 at age 83.

Fellow Manson Family members Patricia Krenwinkel and Charles “Tex” Watson were with Van Houten during the LaBianca murders. Van Houten held down Rosemary LaBianca while Krenwinkel stabbed her in the collar bone and Watson stabbed her with a bayonet eight times. Then, Van Houten stabbed Rosemary LaBianca in the back and buttocks 14 to 16 times. Afterwards, Van Houten cleaned the area of fingerprints, changed clothes, and drank chocolate milk out of the LaBiancas’ refrigerator............To Read More....

My Take - This is insanity.  She says she's not that person any longer, and the parole board talks about all the counseling she's gone through over the years, and I say to that........So What?  She's in prison for who she was, and what she did, and the fact she's gotten old and sorry doesn't bring back those lives and the terror she put them through.

What we are in serious need of is a little clarity over this:

"Ms. Van Houten and other Manson followers killed the LaBiancas in their home in August 1969, smearing their blood on the walls after. Ms. Van Houten later described holding Rosemary LaBianca down with a pillowcase over her head as others stabbed her, before herself stabbing the woman more than a dozen times. “My family and I are heartbroken because we’re once again reminded of all the years that we have not had my father and my stepmother with us,” Cory LaBianca, Leno LaBianca’s daughter, told The Associated Press in a telephone interview Friday. “My children and my grandchildren never got an opportunity to get to know either of them, which has been a huge void for my family,” said Ms. La Bianca, who is 75. The LaBianca murders happened the day after Manson followers killed actress Sharon Tate and four others. Ms. Van Houten did not participate in the Tate killings.

Prisons were created to do two things.  Get the filth off the streets and punish them for bad behavior.  Bleeding hearts came up with all this rehabilitation crap, and it's undermined the rule of law and the behavior of criminals.  And California is a mess for all this "enlightenment" they spout.

She did these vile things and laughed about it all and should have died in prison as did Manson.
