U.S. Senate Confirmations to Date

Compared to recent years...

By John Droz, Jr., August 8, 2025 @ Critically Thinking About Select Societal Issues

I (and I’m sure many other citizens) have wondered why the US Senate confirmations of federal positions have not moved along at a faster pace.

When one party wants to obstruct these confirmations just for the sake of obstructing, there are a variety of tactics they can employ that everyday citizens don’t appreciate the significance of.

As one simple example, the approval of a candidate can be done in two ways: a voice vote or a roll-call vote. The latter takes MUCH more time, especially when some Senators just happen to have other commitments when it is their turn to vote, etc.

The information below gives a good idea of how things are happening in the current Senate, as compared to prior situations when the shoe was on the other foot.

Five Charts That Explain What Is Happening With Nominees in the Senate

In the Face of Historic Democrat Obstruction, Republicans Forge Ahead to Confirm President Trump’s Team

President Trump is the ONLY President on record to not have a single civilian nominee confirmed via voice vote (or unanimous consent)!

Regardless of this unprecedented obstruction, Senate Republicans are confirming nominees the hard way and ahead of the first Trump administration’s pace:

Senate Republicans have kept up the pace by voting more than any Senate in the last 35-plus years:

Even taking more votes in seven months than the Senate has in 32 out of the last 36 entire years…

And spending more time in session than any year in the last 15+ years:

So there you have the answer as to why things are moving slowly regarding key appointments to federal agency/department positions…

Here is another recent development, which makes it clear: The Dems are purposefully slow walking this process to be able to bribe the Republicans.

This is a good overview: Seven Months of Unparalleled Republican Successes.

Senators, Judges, Presidential Appointments, and Media Hyperbole

 By Rich Kozlovich

I've been seeing headlines like this for two days, Urgent! The Clock Is Ticking, Boasberg Is In the Wings, warning the nation that RICO Senator Thom Tellis will not vote for Ed Martin as Trump's choice for the job as US attorney for DC.  Currently he's the "acting" AG and has had a major impact on reducing crime in DC, but Tellis, who refused to vote of Hegseth, while having happily voted for Merritt Garland, a far left nutroll that needs to be seriously investigated for his actions as Attorney General of the United States, and claims he did so because he's Trump's friend and he's covering Trumps back.  Yeah, and rain isn't wet.   He claims he's against Martin because he dared to defend the J6ers.

Is he insane?  I don't think he's insane, but I do think he has some serious corruption issues .... criminal issues.... massive felonies, similar to those Letitia James is facing over mortgage fraud.

According to all these articles there's a system in place.... via federal law or just an accepted system... I'm not sure what the basis is for all this, but it says if the Senate fails to confirm an U.S. Attorney in a district within 120 days, the judges in that federal district court can "name" one.  In this case it could potentially be far left radical James Boasberg as Chief Justice of that district.

It seems what's really incensed the leftists and their familiars, aka, RINO's like Tillis is:

Martin has been his effort to restore justice by challenging the left’s lawfare efforts, ranging from Jan. 6 to Russiagate. Martin has sought transparency and accountability regarding the railroading of J6 defendants by the Biden administration. This includes Martin’s internal review of the Biden DOJ’s use of the Enron-driven “obstruction of an official proceeding” charge to hit protesters with a felony punishable by up to 20 years in prison. It also includes Martin’s firing of attorneys who arguably weaponized and politicized their offices in pursuing J6ers. Martin also appears to be probing the Justice Department’s role in Russiagate, among other threatened investigatory actions touching on regime third rails

Okay, the above linked article goes on to explain the intricacies of all this, but the fact is under the Appointments Clause of Article II of the Constitution the only person in the United States who can appoint federal officials is the President of the United States, and then can only do so if they're confirmed by the Senate, and no federal law or accepted system can overturn that.

So, this is in my opinion a lot of hyperbole that Trump can easily overcome by refusing to swear in any pick other than his own, or fire their pick, or simply ignore anything they offer and tell everyone at the Justice Department, starting with Pam Bondi, to refuse their pick access to the Justice Department in any way shape or form.  Will that cause a massive stir?  Sure.  Does anyone really thinks Trump cares?

Update: Trump pulled him as his pick.  I think that's a mistake, but I don't have 500 things on my plate daily,.....so.... I get it.   The article says something that is obvious to the most casual observer, Tillis is in trouble from here on in, and we now know Trump has nominated Judge Jeanine Pirro for that spot, and it seems to me it's really gonna get interesting now.

Who Really is Donald Trump?

By Rich Kozlovich

Me and most of my conservative friends really don't like Trump on a personal level.  But we all thought he has the ability to be one of the greatest Presidents in the nation's history, and we believe that because what we want is less government (way less government), less taxes, less spending, the end of deficits and borrowing, start paying off the national debt, less regulations, and a President who will deliver that, and he's promised to be that deliverer .... sort of ... maybe.

Well, America, we just might have a problem.

I keep wondering at the things Trump is doing and saying.  He's wanting to appoint some really strange people to important offices, like Bobby Kennedy, Jr., who is now, was in the past, and will be in the future a far left nitwit.

He was the proverbial blind monkey who found a coconut because of his stand against the "vaccines" being forced on society for covid, which weren't real vaccines, since they didn't immunize the patient and didn't prevent transmission, which before this was the decades old definition for a chemical compound to be called a vaccine.   As for covid being a disaster, the only covid disaster was the tyrannous impositions governments all over the world put on their societies, and done so with a lot of lies and propaganda.  But the reality is he's against all vaccinations, so his stand against these covid shots that wasn't a strong moral stance against what was going on standing as a rock in the current.

Kennedy, if confirmed, will have control of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Food and Drug Administration, the National Institutes of Health and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, and, 'Kennedy has claimed Trump “promised” him “control of the public health agencies" and Trump delusionally claims:

"Kennedy will restore these Agencies to the traditions of Gold Standard Scientific Research, and beacons of Transparency, to end the Chronic Disease epidemic, and to Make America Great and Healthy Again!"

Now that's pure delusion, and should scare the entire nation. Was this a deal Trump made to get Kennedy to support him?  If it was, it was a bad deal putting him in charge of the nation's health and how the nation grows and eats food in America?  Listen up Donny, that's nuts.

We're facing a massive nation destroying national debt, and yet I'm reading how Trump wants to eliminate the debt ceiling.  Why?  It's inconvenient, and the arguments for eliminating it are horsepucky, and a failure of leadership.  What happens if you eliminate a debt ceiling in your life, and then spend like a drunker sailor?  You go broke!   Just because the government can print all the money they want to isn't leadership.  It's a failure in leadership, a failure to the taxpayers, and it's blatantly irresponsible.  In his last term he did a lot of good things, but cutting spending and borrowing wasn't among them, and it appears he might not be any good at it this term either.  I'm hoping that's not so.

At this point I would like to feature this article by my now passed friend Alan Caruba, who discussed the disaster of Lyndon B. Johnson in his 2012 article Poverty Nation and Johnson's “War on Poverty” saying it was a "classic, liberal government program that to this day has not eliminated poverty in America", and goes on to show no matter how much is spent, poverty will always be with us.  That's history, and that history is incontestable.

The leftist view is that poverty can be eliminated if we just spend more money.   Well that's historically delusional, it's stupid, and it's budget busting.  In short, the amount of spending, ineffectual spending, with lousy returns is massive, and that's so throughout the federal government.  If Trump really wants it all stopped he needs to put a cap on spending and borrowing, and he needs to do it now!

But this really takes the cake. Trump wants Canada to become the 51st state, which has generated a lot of CO2 and ink, and since Trudeau has resigned he's putting on the big push, and making big promises saying:

Many people in Canada love being the 51st state.  The United States can no longer suffer the massive trade deficits and subsidies that Canada needs to stay afloat.  Justin Trudeau knew this, and resigned. If Canada merged with the U.S., there would be no tariffs, taxes would go way down, and they would be totally secure from the threat of the Russian and Chinese Ships that are constantly surrounding them. Together, what a great nation it would be!!

Russian and Chinese ships are surrounding Canada?  Really, I've not read that anywhere else, and everything else he's saying here is... well... odd at best.

Let's understand this, the conservatives of Canada are like America's RINO's only more left.  So, if Canada were to become the 51st state there would be two more leftist Senators, and an untold number of leftist House members.  If the ten provinces of Canada became separate states that would bring in 20 more leftist Senators.   The Congress would be in the hands of anti-American far left lunatics forever.  If people liked the tyranny Trudeau imposed on Canada, they would love the tyranny they, along with their Democrat allies, would be able to impose on America, starting with the end of the First and Second Amendments.

And Donny thinks that's a good idea?

Border Czar Homan: I Like His Style!

 By Rich Kozlovich

Former acting ICE Director Tom Homan is giving notice, to Democrat Governors who are working to oppose the President's mass immigration plans saying:

If they're not willing to help, then get the hell out of the way because [Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE)] is going to do their job.....I think the American people just gave President Trump a mandate. That's why he's elected -- to secure the border, save lives and deport people, especially national security threats and public safety threats. So if you’re not going to help us, step aside, but don't get in our way, because there will be consequences......If you're in a country illegally, you've got a problem.

He's made it clear the administration will conduct workplace immigration raids saying:

Where do we find most victims of sex trafficking and forced labor trafficking? At worksites.

Tom Homan is a man out for justice according to Susan Quinn:

From the first time I saw Tom Homan interviewed on Fox News, I was so impressed by his determination to protect the border of our country. For him, the goals were all about border security and national security, and nothing could excuse illegal migrants breaking our laws. His fervor about this invasion of our country was second only to President Trump, even in Trump’s first term, and he is resolute about deporting those people who have been allowed to cross our borders illegally, thanks to the policies of the Biden administration........... Since Trump just stated today that he will appoint Kristi Noem, governor of South Dakota, who is a stalwart supporter of border security, I foresee her working well with Holman, as will likely other Department heads.

Tom Holman has an in-depth background in border security and law enforcement...........He’s also adamant about carrying out his mission.

I like his style, and he kinda reminds me of General George S. Patton, the only really brilliant allied general in the ETO during WWII. But he was in trouble all the time, as he said exactly what was on his mind. Mostly because that's who he was, and Patton really had no political ambitions after the war, so he had no desire to curb his tongue.

After he retired he promised to expose all the idiocy, all the gutless political pandering, and all the big egos that unnecessarily killed so many allied troops, and the lousy planning of the generals during the war that caused it.  His death was the happiest day in the lives of the allied generals, and was a serious loss regarding the real history of WWII to America and the world.

But he got things done and that seems to me that's who this guy is. Tough, smart, focused, extremely competent, and could care less what anyone thinks, and is more than happy to say what he thinks and tell the leftists in government and the Pravda media to shove it.

I like his style!

Observations From the Back Row

By Rich Kozlovich

If you go to news sites you find writers will specialize in certain topics or issues.  I'm pretty much fascinated by everything, and that "everything" is huge, making it difficult to cover it all, but I try to cover as much as I can, and I'm going to alter how I do this by posting more shorter articles dealing with specific issues.  .

This week we heard the Democrat Minority Leader in the House, the hand puppet of Nancy Pelosi, Rep. Hakeem Jeffries vow to fart hard for the right to vote.   Okay, so that must mean the Democrats are going to continue stinking up the place?  Right? They're all part of the Carter legacy, which Jimmy's grandson is so proud of claiming his grandfather's legacy will live on, and I agree.  And here's his legacy and it's not a pretty one.

Time and truth are on the same side, and a great many of these people, like Liz Chaney, who will not end up dying an unknown, unfortunately for her. She'll die being known for her lack of integrity, and will spend the rest of her life as a member of the Benedict Arnold Hall of Fame, which will follow her after she's gone, and she dragged her father into that hall of fame with her. There's something seriously wrong with that family, and her mind.   In a desperate bid for relevance, Liz blasts Donald Trump and gets blasted. No class, no brains, no integrity, and no one is listening.  None of this is going to save her against the upcoming investigation by Congress, and what has to be a totally reformed DOJ and FBI for the crimes committed by the January 6th Committee.

Blinkin admits it was their corruption, and stupidity that caused Hamas to pull back from deals, and one leftist, whose secular religion, leftism, which can only exist via voter fraud is saying Trump didn't win the popular vote, while the Democrats scheme to keep Trump from being sworn in.

Senate RINO's never can find a bottom that's too low for them to go, and entirely too often are in collusion with the left in all it's manifestations to destroy anyone Trump will nominate, and if anyone had any doubts Thune was going to abandon his RINO credentials, this should remove any and all doubt,  Thune Questions if It Is ‘Realistic’ to Deport Everybody in the Country Illegally.

With the possible exception of RFK, Jr., which shouldn't shock anyone because the left knows, he's still really is one of them!  Understand this.  Kennedy wants to be President, and he knows that's never gonna happen in the Republican party, and since its pretty clear the Democrats are leaderless and clueless, they could easily decide RFK Jr. is just the man they want, since I'm not expecting him to last even two years in the Trump administration, that will give him time for the 2028 nomination.

The covid fraud scandal is going to seriously heat up, and someone, hopefully Fauci, will end up in jail, who is probably guilty of 25 million counts of negligent criminal homicide’.

What About Pete?

By Rich Kozlovich

Pete Hegseth has been nominated as Secretary of Defense by Donald Trump, but that giant of intellectual wherewithal, Whoopie Goldberg, has declared Hegseth "clearly knows nothing about the military", and Whoopie absolutely knows all about the military because she played a bar tender on Star Trek, like OAC was a bar tender after graduating cum laude from Boston University in 2011 with a bachelor's degree in international relations and economics.  And she could only get a job as a bartender?  Odd, don't you think?

At any rate, while Whoopie wasn't a member of Star Fleet in that show, and of course it really wouldn't have matter anyway because none of that was real, but hey, let's not get picky!  Right?   After all, that's Whoopie's job to be picky, so, let's take a look and see if Whoopie knows what she's talking about.

Hegseth is 44, a combat veteran, commissioned as an officer in the Minnesota Army National Guard joining in 2002 serving in Iraq and Afghanistan.

He twice earned the "Bronze Star, [he's authorized] to wear the Joint Service Commendation Medal, two Army Commendation Medals, three Army Reserve Components Achievement Medals, the National Defense Service Medal with a Bronze Service Star, an Afghanistan Campaign Medal with two campaign stars, an Iraq Campaign Medal with two campaign stars, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Armed Forces Reserve Medal with “M” Device, the Army Service Ribbon, two Overseas Service Ribbons, the D.C. National Guard Emergency Service Ribbon, a NATO Medal, a Joint Meritorious Unit Award, a Combat Infantryman Badge, and an Expert Infantryman Badge.

He retired as a major, and refers to himself as a recovering neocon now believing invading Iraq was a mistake.  He has critical insights on weapons procurement, training, DEI insanity, planning, and more.  But Whoopi says he "clearly knows nothing about the military".

She must have used the same logic when she said Jill Biden was a great doctor and should have been made Surgeon General.  Jill Biden's degree was in education, not medicine.

To be a leftist requires massive mental capacity.  Why?  To justify their irrational views, and twisted logic must require unparalleled mental gymnastics. Fortunately, they're so obviously nuts, ordinary people with ordinary mental capacity can see through it all.  But that's not a deterrent to the left.  They lie, they know they lie, we know they lie, and they know we know they lie, and the brilliant conclusion these mental giants on the left come to is since everyone knows it all a lie, it isn't really a lie after all.  Ergo, why stop lying?

Gaetz was defeated as Attorney General even before he left the gate, and the claim is he knew he was guilty of something and couldn't face the music.  He said the Justice Department investigated him and didn't charge him, and if he was guilty, he'd be in jail now.   So why did he quit?  There were five Republican Senators who absolutely said they would not vote for him, three of whom thought Merritt Garland was perfectly acceptable, all five of which need to be primaried when their time comes.

As for releasing the House Ethics Committee report on him, which are usually filled with unsubstantiated claims..... he said, she said stuff.   But, I'm all for it, provided they release all the ethics reports, which have hidden all the provable vile antics of many of those in Congress, especially in those cases where government money was used to silence their accusers.

So now they're going to go after Pete Hegseth, and Tulsi Gabbard, which in her case I have to wonder how did she made the journey across the aisle from adoring Bernie Sanders to becoming a MAGA fan.   Just a thought mind you.

Know you're friends by their enemies, and Hegseth has all the right enemies.

CNN's Van Jones Explodes Over Trump’s Defense Secretary Pick because he thinks the military needs no correction, and he's a military expert?  He's a political analyst, media personality, lawyer, author, and civil rights advocate.  Actually, that's what he's paid for, but in reality he's just another a race baiting hustler, with no military credentials or experience, so he's just doing what he does best.  The race baiting hustle,  and Lloyd Austin is no better.  And he's not alone in the military or Department of Defense, which is filled with:

.......[a] regime of left-wing four-star generals and DoD lackeys [which] has produced one of the most disastrous tenures in the Pentagon's history. We've had spy balloons flying over the entire continental United States. We had the Afghanistan withdrawal disaster, which cost the lives of 13 American servicemembers and became a stain on the nation's history. Russia invaded Europe during the last four years while China and Iran have seen a resurgence in power and influence. The Middle East is the most unstable it has been since the end of Trump's first term.

Then we have Fauxcahontas, Elisabeth Warren, "who stole a job from a legitimate minority at Harvard" declaring he would make the military unsafe.  A military which is focused on DEI insanity, climate change, and electrifying America’s military forces is going to be unsafe if Hegseth is confirmed?  Really?  There's more, and it seems likely all these panicked voices may be connected to Obama, who "has been running a shadow presidency since he left the White House in January 2017."

The Democrats/socialists/communists and DEI misfits scream he's not qualified, it's racism, white privilege, he's too young, he's a media guy.  Well, he's 44, he has excellent military experience and performance, a lot of media people have migrated into administrations in the past, and I really don't care if black race hustlers are upset he's going to fire a DEI general, and probably a lot of white ones.  After all, considering the disaster of the Afghanistan pull out, who are they to criticize anyone?   It's time to eliminate DEI in the military and demand MEI, Merit, Excellence, and Intelligence.

This brings me to the rape scandal, a vile and unending tactic by the left.  While he admits to a sexual liaison with this woman he claims it was consensual, and it was she who was the "aggressor" and there's video evidence to that, which is all confirmed in the police report.  The only crime committed here looks like is an effort at extortion by this woman.

This kind of thing no longer has the impact it did in times past.  The Establishment’s Scandal Scam Tactics Won’t Work Anymore.  The Pravda media cares little for the truth, they only care about framing an innocent man and destroying him for political purposes, and it's just not working any longer.

He has his defenders also.  Scott Jennings tore into Pentagon leadership, he called him an 'American Hero', and Bill Ackman says he will be a revolutionary leader for the military, GOP Senators Express Confidence in Hegseth’s Confirmation, and I agree.   I just hate the tattoos.

RFK Jr. Heading HHS Shakes Up the Left-Right Divide

Kennedy upsetting the establishment balance.

Of all the nominations President-elect Donald Trump has made so far, tapping Robert F. Kennedy Jr. as the Secretary of Health and Human Services might be the most controversial – but not entirely for the reasons one might think. While RFK Jr. has firmly held beliefs that go against the mainstream orthodoxy – views he apparently intends to make policy – it is his family name and political legacy that may be ushering in a new political divide. Indeed, fault lines are already forming in new and unexpected ways.

RFK Jr. and MAHA

In a long-anticipated reveal, Donald Trump announced on Thursday, November 14, that he would appoint Kennedy to oversee HHS. On the campaign trail, the former president had made clear that he had planned to let him “go wild” on the nation’s fast-deteriorating health. During his now-infamous Madison Square Garden rally, Trump said:

“I’m going to let him go wild on health. I’m going to let him go wild on the food. I’m going to let him go wild on the medicines.”

As part of his campaign, Trump touted a new cri de cÅ“ur of “MAHA,” or “Make America Healthy Again.” It’s difficult to argue this was not a sentiment motivating voters who had deep concerns regarding the faux food epidemic and the rise in childhood illnesses. What’s more, RFK Jr., as a scion of the Kennedy family, represents the closest thing to DC royalty for many die-hard Democratic supporters.

Democratic Party Denial

When it became clear to the American public that President Joe Biden was suffering cognitive decline, there were growing calls for a more robust primary contest. Despite his outspoken views on vaccines and certain shibboleths of bureaucratized modern medical administration, Kennedy ticked several boxes for left-leaning voters.

After he claimed that the DNC was “rigging” the primary against him, he became an independent candidate for president and amassed a following that – at its height – was registering more than 10% in numerous polls. Then came Biden’s disastrous and politically fatal debate against Donald Trump and the installation of Kamala Harris as the de facto nominee. A sizeable portion of Democratic Party voters were not impressed.

Then came the lawsuits to keep Kennedy off the ballot and the near-constant denigration. Finally, Kennedy endorsed Trump and instructed his supporters: “If you want to see me in Washington, DC. Vote for President Trump.” And based on the election’s results, it seems they did. In fact, Kennedy’s MAHA message looks set to become a dividing line in the new political landscape.

Naturally, Heads Exploded

With the announcement finally made, pundits, politicos, and policy advocates went scorched earth. During an interview with former Republican Congressman Adam Kinzinger, CNN’s Jake Tapper said, “Well, America I hope you like measles.” Georges Benjamin of the American Public Health Association warned: “We’ve had people nominated for the job we disagreed with on policy and ideology, but I’m unaware of anyone who’s been nominated for this job that we can’t trust what they say.”

Give Cable TV the Boot – Check This Out!

Massachusetts’s Senator Elizabeth Warren was more direct in her condemnation, posting, “RFK Jr. poses a danger to public health, scientific research, medicine, and health care coverage for millions. He wants to stop parents from protecting their babies from measles and his ideas would welcome the return of polio. I have a lot of questions for his Senate hearing.”

The CDC director, Mandy Cohen, was also distressed by the nomination, saying, “I don’t want to go backwards and see children or adults suffer or lose their lives to remind us that vaccines work.” But here’s the rub: Not everyone was against this choice.

Colorado’s Democratic Governor, Jared Polis, was notably enthused by the nomination. “He helped us defeat vaccine mandates in Colorado in 2019 and will help make America healthy again by shaking up HHS and FDA,” he wrote. Going further, the staunch Trump critic noted that:

“I hope he leans into personal choice on vaccines rather than bans (which I think are terrible, just like mandates) but what I’m most optimistic about is taking on big pharma and the corporate ag oligopoly to improve our health.”

And across social media, several well-known left-leaning voices echoed their enthusiasm for MAHA. Indeed, while Kennedy has critics in both parties, he also has supporters for his mission. And it seems that politicians might be willing to work across enemy lines in what many see as a revolutionary approach to public health.

Kennedy Ready for Action?

In response to the nomination, RFK Jr. posted on X:

“Thank you @realDonaldTrump for your leadership and courage. I’m committed to advancing your vision to Make America Healthy Again. We have a generational opportunity to bring together the greatest minds in science, medicine, industry, and government to put an end to the chronic disease epidemic.”

He continued, writing, “I look forward to working with the more than 80,000 employees at HHS to free the agencies from the smothering cloud of corporate capture so they can pursue their mission to make Americans once again the healthiest people on Earth.”

Trump’s other nominations will most likely fall along party lines should they need to be confirmed by the Senate (rather than appointed through the Senate Recess path). But getting RFK Jr. to the top spot of HHS could result in dynamic support (and opposition) from both sides of the aisle.

Donald Trump Cabinet Nominee Poker: Aces, Eights – and Wild Cards

The president-elect is moving quickly, scoring some points and raising some blood pressures.

by | Nov 14, 2024 @ Liberty Nation News, Tags: Articles, Opinion, Politics

On Nov. 13, President-elect Donald Trump traveled to Washington, DC, where he met with congressional Republicans before visiting the White House at the invitation of the man he will succeed, Joe Biden. It was perhaps a refreshing moment of civility between two men who have spent most of the last five years excoriating each other. Far more important to most observers, however, is whom Trump will be taking with him when he returns to 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. in January to take office.

Trump Picks

The incoming president was quick to name Susie Wiles as his White House chief of staff. Wiles, who also worked on Trump’s 2016 and 2020 campaigns, almost certainly deserves a lot of the credit for the president-elect’s successful 2024 bid.

With America’s illegal immigration problem and practically wide-open southern border front and center in the minds of many voters this election cycle, Trump also wasted little time naming Tom Homan as “Border Czar.” Homan served as executive associate director of enforcement and removal operations for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) under President Barack Obama and as acting director of ICE under (45th) President Donald Trump.

Rep. Michael Waltz (R-FL) will become the new president’s national security advisor. Waltz is a former Army officer and Green Beret. In a statement announcing his choice, Trump said, “Mike has been a strong champion of my America First Foreign Policy agenda and will be a tremendous champion of our pursuit of Peace through Strength!”

South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem will take the helm at the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). Though governor of a state that is almost as far from the southern border as one can get, Noem has been an outspoken advocate for tougher immigration policies and stricter border controls. At DHS, her portfolio will include Customs and Border Protection (CBP) as well as ICE.

Former New York Rep. Lee Zeldin will head up the Environmental Protection Agency. Zeldin, who made an unsuccessful bid for governor of New York in 2022, is a proponent of fracking. He will likely have his work cut out for him leading an agency so heavily invested in the Democrats’ “green energy” anti-fossil fuel agenda.

Trump’s former Director of National Intelligence (DNI), John Ratcliffe, has been tapped to lead the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). Ratcliffe was awarded the National Security Medal in 2020, the highest intelligence and national security honor.

Trump Throws Some Curveballs

One pick that probably took most people by surprise was Pete Hegseth, nominated to the position of secretary of defense. These days, Hegseth is known as a Fox News co-host, but he is an Army combat veteran who served with the 101st Airborne Division and was awarded two Bronze Stars and two Army Commendation Medals. Democrats and left-leaning journalists are already piling on – mostly pointing out his lack of experience for such a position. Perhaps the question needs to be asked, though, could he possibly do a worse job than the current Pentagon leadership?

Florida Sen. Marco Rubio has been nominated for the position of Secretary of State – another choice that has raised a few eyebrows, particularly among some fervent Trump supporters who have never completely trusted Rubio.

To be sure, this time around, Trump has managed to pull a diverse crowd into his orbit, politically speaking. The president-elect’s partnership with Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is one prime example. Another is Trump’s selection of former Democratic Rep. Tulsi Gabbard to fill the position of DNI. Gabbard, a military veteran, has been highly critical of the party she left. She became a Republican in October, and the former House member from Hawaii has given voice to values and concerns very much in line with Trump’s.

Mercifully outside the Washington, DC, bubble, Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy will oversee the Department of Government Efficiency. This is essentially an advisory committee, but the impact it might have on the structure and operation of the federal government is tantalizing.

Trump has also tapped a couple of well-known faces for ambassador positions. Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee will be on his way to Israel, while New York Rep. Elise Stefanik will take on the United Nations.

Without a doubt, though, Trump’s most controversial pick was Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz for Attorney General. Not necessarily the most popular member of his party, Gaetz has been one of the Department of Justice’s fiercest critics. Of all Trump’s nominees, the Florida Republican – rogue or maverick, depending on one’s point of view – will probably face the toughest Senate confirmation battle. That is, of course, unless Trump makes a recess appointment.

On several recent occasions, Trump has conceded that one of his biggest issues during his first term in the White House was having to rely on advice from Washington insiders on whom he should appoint to his Cabinet and inner circle. A few of those appointments did not work out well – with some people supposedly on Trump’s team sometimes appearing to be actively working against his agenda. The former and future president seems determined not to make the same mistake again, and that is reflected in the selections he is making for his new Cabinet and White House staff.

The Tremors of Trump’s DC Comeback

A risky plan with big rewards.

by | Nov 14, 2024 @ Liberty Nation News, Tags: Articles, Opinion, Politics

President-elect Donald Trump is in the midst of political machinations that could upend the business-as-usual approach to governance in the nation’s capital. With the GOP House majority now official and Senate leadership in place, there is growing suspicion that the former and future president is engaged in a series of gambits that will send shockwaves through the establishment and allow him to hit the ground running.

The Senate Gamble

Yesterday, November 13, Republican senators voted to elevate John Thune (South Dakota) to the Senate Majority Leader position. Prior to the highly anticipated ballot, Trump made it clear that any candidate “must agree to Recess Appointments (in the Senate!), without which we will not be able to get people confirmed in a timely manner.”

Thune has indeed signaled his willingness to go this unconventional yet constitutional route. Republicans may well remember when Democrats tried to block Jeff Sessions’ confirmation as Attorney General in 2017. Opting for the Recess Appointment strategy would allow the soon-to-be president to bypass the advice and consent aspect of the nomination process.

As has happened numerous times in the past, if the Senate is on recess for ten or more days, positions can be filled unilaterally. In this case, Mr. Trump is essentially asking senators to step aside voluntarily. If incoming Majority Leader Thune agrees, the more than 1,000 appointments could be swiftly put in place. However, they would only last – at most – the length of the incoming Congress. And with some of the more notable nominations being contentious even among his fellow Republicans, this presents a conundrum that could become an internecine battle.

Duck, Duck, Goose!

When Donald Trump started announcing his nominations, there appeared to be a general air of approval from both his supporters in the public and his colleagues in DC. That camaraderie soon soured with the news that firebrand Representative Matt Gaetz of Florida would be offered the Attorney General of the United States position.

While most GOP senators kept quiet on the controversial pick, others openly espoused their concern. Some even expressed their support, like Tennessee’s Marsh Blackburn, who posted, “@realDonaldTrump is keeping his promise to root out the Deep State. As Attorney General, that’s what @mattgaetz will do.” There is also a growing chorus of voices inside the Beltway that suggest Gaetz is not a serious appointment, epitomized by Democratic Senator for Pennsylvania John Fetterman, who said:

“I would describe it as God-tier level trolling, to just trigger a China syndrome … to own the libs in perpetuity.”*

But here’s the rub. Senator Thune can opt for the recess and get Donald Trump’s picks in place to begin fulfilling his campaign pledges, or he can try the traditional route and deal with the inevitable stonewalling. It would be politically problematic in terms of public perception to rubber stamp some positions and not others, setting up an internal divide even before Trump takes office.

However, even if Thune decides to draw the process out, Mr. Trump has other options that may make the equation  – if not more palatable – easier to swallow.

Realms of Possibility

Should Matt Gaetz not receive the consent of Congress, President Trump could appoint an acting Attorney General without using the Senate confirmation process. While this may not be immediately applicable to Mr. Gaetz, the Department of Justice outlined in 2018 that:

“The President’s designation of an official who does not hold a Senate-confirmed office to serve, on a temporary basis, as Acting Attorney General was consistent with the Appointments Clause. The designation did not transform the official’s position into a principal office requiring Senate confirmation.”

An acting AG can serve up to 210 days in office under the Federal Vacancies Reform Act. This period can be extended by a further 90 days should the vacancy date from the inauguration. That’s a total of 300 days. There would likely be legal challenges to such a pathway as Mr. Gaetz is not currently within the DOJ, but a lot can be achieved while that argument makes its way through the courts.

Of course, it could also be that there is another game in play, that Trump expects Gaetz to be rejected and is treating him as a bargaining chip. But if that is the case, then the question becomes: what is he angling for?

Opening Salvos and End Games

When Donald Trump first became president in 2016, he took advice on appointments from those apparently “in-the-know.” He recently admitted that this was his biggest mistake. This time around, he appears determined to have Washington, DC, march to his own drumbeat. With the Senate, the House, and the presidency joined in a power triumvirate, not to mention a decisive Electoral College win and the popular vote, Trump has a mandate to deliver. But it won’t last forever.

Come 2026, the Senate tables will almost certainly turn, as the in-built advantage that transpired this year will be reversed while the next class of Senate seats goes back to the ballot box. Trump has two clear years to effect the changes he feels will secure his legacy and, ultimately, put an end to the progressive era. So, whether he gets his front bench through is paramount. It seems he may be willing to expend as much political capital as it takes to ensure he hits the ground running on his first day in office.

Remaking the 9th Circuit Court from the ‘nutty 9th’ to Respectability

April 8, 2019 Posted by Sid Bowdidge

Three decades ago, former President Jimmy Carter transformed the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals. Carter appointed some of the most liberal judges ever appointed to any court. The 9th has expanded to 29 appellate judges, from 23 then, and the majority have stayed left leaning ever since. As we’re finding with nearly every liberal politician, their viewpoint on issues can be very radical. So goes the same for the majority of the judges on the 9th.

Some of the more outrageous court decisions for example have been a decision in 2012. The Second Amendment doesn’t recognize an individual’s right to bear arms. And in one of the court’s most outrageous rulings in 2002, they ruled that the Pledge of Allegiance’s “under God” clause is an unconstitutional endorsement of religion. These were overturned by the Supreme Court.

The other point which reflects how out of touch with reality the 9th Circuit Court is. The Supreme Court overrules approximately 80% of the cases they get from the 9th Circuit. This is why when President Trump makes decisions such as the asylum law and the Muslim country travel ban, lawyers run to the 9th Circuit Court because they know they can get an injunction to stop him, even if it gets overturned by the Supreme Court several months later.
Hence the 9th has earned the nicknames, the “nutty 9th” or the “ninth circus”.
In contrast to the Supreme Court, which was established by Article III of the Constitution, the circuit courts were established by Congress. Our forefathers wanted the federal court system to be limited to the Supreme Court. There is no constitutional requirement that Circuit courts exist at all. However, the first Congress created the Circuit court system which is still in place today. There are 13 appellate courts, each have several states which fall under their respective jurisdiction. These sit below the U.S. Supreme Court, and they are called the U.S. Court of Appeals............To Read More....

McMaster Out, Bolton In as National Security Adviser

By Melanie Arter | March 22, 2018

The White House announced Thursday that National Security Adviser Gen. H.R. McMaster plans to resign from the Trump administration and will be replaced by former U.S. Ambassador John Bolton.  McMaster will serve until mid-April, after which Bolton will take over.  “After thirty-four years of service to our nation, I am requesting retirement from the U.S. Army effective this summer after which I will leave public service. Throughout my career........To Read More....

My Take - Did he really want to retire or is this a way for the President to fire a man without humiliating him?  I think it's the latter.  McMaster and his team's thinking are so closely aligned with leftists I couldn't understand why he was tolerated this long, but Trump didn't come into the office like most Presidents.  He came in without the support of the party and that's where the recommendations for these position come from.

He's had to keep people who were already there in some cases until he had time to figure out who he could get that would do what needs to be done.  And as far as I can tell - he's had to do that largely on his own.  But now these changes will give him access to others through the people he's now bringing in, and the changes will go faster and be more in line with the America First mentality, including the staff McMaster praises.

Does President Trump Know What a Radical Environmentalist He Picked in Peter Navarro?

The strange case of Peter Navarro became curiouser and curiouser this week. As the president's pitchman for tariffs, Navarro was all over the airways this week with visions of new factories for steel and aluminum, all through the magical elixir of raising taxes on imports.

Maybe it will work. Maybe it won't. But if one of California's most visible advocates of No Growth Environmentalism to stop jobs, housing, and growth of all kinds – and that is who Navarro was before he discovered the evils of China and Trump discovered him – can become the chief spokesman for more jobs, housing, and growth, then anything is possible.

Many Trump-supporters in San Diego are still amazed at how this leader of a liberal cabal of Southern California environmentalists rose so quickly to such great heights in Trump's conservative regime. They still remember when Navarro arrived in San Diego in the 1980s and formed his no-growth group called PLAN: Prevent Los Angelization Now. ........... Read more

We’ll Send You Home Again, Kathleen: Energy and Politics

William MurchisonFebruary 6, 2018

Republican “moderates” abandon a bullied Trump nominee.  From the Washington Post, Feb. 4, 2018: “The White House has withdrawn its controversial nominee to head the Council on Environmental Quality, Kathleen Hartnett White, whose selection failed to gather momentum with some Senate Republicans raising questions about her expertise.”

Herewith a confession: I have known Kathleen Hartnett White quite a long time now.

A second confession follows hard upon this one: I know her to be very, very smart; very, very wise; very, very honorable (as well as impressively nice); and as of this moment, a tremendous loss to government service.

Another confession, and then I’ll get to the point: I was privileged to offer her editorial advice on a book she and the Heritage Foundation’s Stephen Moore produced for Regnery. The book touted the ingenuity of the free marketplace in the solution of environmental problems such as climate change.

I lent her a hand, checking syntax and such like, because her and Moore’s analysis seemed to me, and still does, more compatible with scientific evidence and common sense than the counter-narratives of climatic despair produced by “science” and the mainstream media…………To Read More…

How Senate Dems Went Anti-Israel

Posted by Daniel Greenfield  Sunday, April 02, 2017   4 Comments @ Sultan Knish Blog

On March 23, 2017, Senators had a simple choice to make. On one side was J Street; an anti-Israel pressure group that had hosted BDS activists and opposed Israel’s right to defend itself. On the other was Ambassador David Friedman, the first pro-Israel nominee in decades.

And the choice was made.

Every Democrat chose to stand with J Street with only two exceptions; Senator Robert Menendez, the last pro-national defense Democrat, and Senator Manchin.

There could hardly be a better demonstration of the descent into the fever swamps of anti-Israel politics then their decision to stand with an anti-Israel hate group whose Muslim-led student arm is waging war on campuses against the Zionist “occupation”.

Senator Schatz, who weaseled his way into his office when the Governor of Hawaii decided to appoint his minion to the job, was first in line. Schatz sniveled that Republicans had come out against Obama’s Iran deal which provided billions to terrorists. Schatz spent 5 minutes lying like a rug. Then he accused Ambassador Friedman of not being “objective” about whether Islamic terrorists destroy Israel or not.

“I take a back seat to no one in my personal and professional passion for the United States-Israel relationship,” he whined. There isn’t a seat far back enough on the longest bus in the world.

Schatz is backed by J Street. The Anti-Israel group’s PAC actively fundraised for him. It even solicited volunteers for him. J Street PAC was No. 2 in Schatz’s top 5 contributors. Brian Schatz sold his hardly used soul for a low six figures. And George Soros probably overpaid for a worthless product.

But Schatz rewarded the anti-Israel group with his undying loyalty. He joined the boycott of Netanyahu’s speech and vocally backed the deal that protects Iran’s nuclear program and pours billions into its terrorist machine. While Schatz bemoaned Ambassador Friedman’s criticism of the anti-Israel group that owned him, he did not utter its name. “J Street”, like Rumpelstiltskin or Voldemort, could not be voiced.

Next up was Senator Udall of New Mexico. Politics is the Udall family business. Udall’s father and uncle were congressmen. His cousin was a senator. J Street’s cash made it Udall’s third biggest donor. Udall was the second biggest recipient of J Street checks in the ’14 election cycle.

$157,310. That was what Udall got from the anti-Israel lobby. Now it was time for him to dance for J Street’s dirty money. And dance, he did.

Udall, who had voted to confirm numerous Obama ambassadors whose only qualifications had been their six figure checks, bemoaned Friedman’s lack of “diplomatic experience”. But he had voted for a soap opera producer who couldn’t name a strategic interest in Hungary as ambassador to Hungary.

The other Senator from J Street sputtered that Jews living in “settlements” on territory claimed by Islamic terrorists were an “obstacle to peace.” And then Udall did what Schatz had been too cowardly to do. The puppet named the puppeteer. The slave spoke the name of his master on the Senate floor.

“Most horrific, he said: J-Street supporters . . . are far worse than kapos,” Udall blithered.

Above all else a man who criticized Udall’s paymasters could not be tolerated. Why not? Because J Street signs the checks. And if J Street’s haters are kapos, what does that make him?

But then it was time to send in the clown. Next up in J Street’s batting order was the Senator from Saturday Night Live. Senator Franken had received no money from J Street. Not a penny. And he’s up for reelection in 2020. Minnesota’s second biggest joke on America was left-wing enough for J Street money. He was anti-Israel enough for J Street money. And doggone it, J Street ought to like him.

Schatz and Udall were bought and paid for by J Street. Al Franken was auditioning for cash. It was hard to know which of them was sadder and more despicable. Schatz and Udall were kept men of the anti-Israel lobby. Franken was flagging down Jeremy Ben-Ami's car in a trench coat and offering his services.

Franken had moved from comedy to politics because he was only unintentionally funny. The author of Rush Limbaugh Is a Big Fat Idiot and Lies: And the Lying Liars Who Tell Them lectured that, "Diplomacy means not resorting to insults and to name-calling when you have a disagreement."

And Ambassador Friedman had insulted the nice men and women whom Franken hoped would write him a nice big check so he could go on being Senator Franken instead of having to play Stuart Smalley on a nostalgia cruise where he would be sharing equal billing with Legionnaire’s Disease. “Mr. Friedman,” Franken lisped, “called supporters of the American Jewish Organization J Street ’far worse than kapos.’''

Schatz and Udall had been satisfied with noting the grave insult to their paymaster and moving on. But Franken was auditioning and so he went all out singing the praises of J Street.

"J Street is a pro-Israel organization dedicated to the two-state solution," Franken flattered. Insulting J Street members was a "calumny” and should be a "disqualifier". It was "profoundly insensitive". If J Street doesn’t send Franken a check after this, its terrorist supporters have hearts like stones.

"Mr. Friedman's offensive remarks don't stop there," Senator Franken huffed. "He even called me a clown and a moron."

There’s no doubt that Ambassador Friedman’s remarks were deeply offensive to clowns and morons. The clown and moron community deserves an apology for being compared to Senator Franken.

But why did Friedman call Franken a clown and a moron? It was over Franken’s attacks on a Trump ad critical of George Soros. Soros helped fund J Street.

After Franken had made his appeal for J Street money, it was back to those senators lucky enough to already be riding the anti-Israel lobby’s gravy train.

Senator Leahy (J Street PAC - $44,588) got up to denounce the insult to J Street without actually naming his 3rd biggest donor. “We all want what is best for the American people,” he sniveled.

Leahy’s definition of the “American people” is a left-wing Hungarian billionaire.

Senator Van Hollen (J Street PAC - $66,506) took a more unique approach by objecting to Friedman’s description of our Islamic “allies” as “cowards”, “hypocrites” and “freeloaders”. It could just as easily have been a description of Van Hollen and his cowardly, hypocritical, freeloading colleagues.

And then it was finally over. Every Democrat, but one, who had spoken against Friedman, was owned by J Street. And every Democrat, but two voted for J Street. And why not? It’s good money.

Senator Schumer betrayed his Jewish constituents. He sided with J Street. So did Senator Cardin. So did almost all of the rest. But this was what the Dems had become.

The contentious vote to confirm an ambassador is highly unusual.

Senate Dems had no objection when Obama sold the ambassadorships of the UK, Japan, France, Canada, Italy and Germany to the highest bidder. ($3.5 mil for the UK, $2.5 mil France, $2 mil Japan, $1.7 mil Switzerland, $1.5 mil Belgium, Canada $1 mil and Germany $1.5 mil.)

Obama appointed his campaign finance manager, John Kerry’s cousin, married to the heiress of the Jack Daniel’s liquor empire, ambassador to the UK. The Senate confirmed him by unanimous consent. The wife of the former CEO of eBay, who kicked in $2 mil, was named Ambassador to the United Nations Human Rights Council. He made a soap opera producer who raised over $500K, the ambassador to Hungary and the producer of Dr. Dolittle 2, who raised millions for him, the ambassador to Denmark.

This grotesque parade of hideous corruption was approved with unanimous consent when in a more honest time everyone involved in this would be sitting under spotlights in an interrogation room.

Senator McCain put up a fight over the soap opera ambassador. McCain asked her, “What are our strategic interests in Hungary?” The Bold and the Beautiful producer spewed gibberish. The vote came to the Senate floor. The Democrats who voted against Friedman voted for her. Franken, Schumer, Gillibrand, Udall, Schatz; the whole miserable gang of liars, scoundrels and hypocrites.

But it’s not our Ambassador to Hungary who matters, but the Hungarian who owns the Democrats.

Senate Dems ought to be made to answer why the choice of Ambassador to Israel should be determined by an anti-Israel pressure group funded by George Soros, a Hungarian billionaire who described his role in the Holocaust as “the most exciting time of my life”, and Consolacion Esdicul who works for a Hong Kong gambler? They ought to be made to answer why they stand with Soros and the PLO over Israel.
