Political Rebranding: Can SAM Save the Democratic Party From Itself?

An attempt to court the demographic most vilified by the woke mob might not go as planned.

The Democratic Party is looking to rebrand, or, at least, has begun to consider a makeover of sorts. A crushing election loss and nose-diving approval ratings have finally spurred some on the left into action. It is not yet certain that the party has nailed down the real reasons it suffered an electoral collapse in November of 2024 – which should be obvious – but preparations are now underway to repair the damage. Whether it succeeds or not is yet to be seen, but a new Democratic initiative, code-named SAM, is in the works.

Several Democrats have decided that the onus is on them to make changes. That’s a shift from the period between last year’s post-election tantrum and April of 2025. During those six months, the narrative adhered to by just about everyone on the left was that racism, sexism, and ignorance had motivated most American voters to reject the party of tolerance and diversity in favor of Trump’s mean MAGA machine. It now appears that a few influencers within Democratic Party circles have accepted that it was the party and not the electorate that fell short.

SAM to the Rescue?

One of the most obvious cultural misfires of many Democratic politicians has been the demonization of heterosexual masculinity. Progressives, including some identifying as journalists, have at one time or another linked right-wing extremism, white supremacy, and even fascism to masculinity, physical exercise, the eating of red meat, and, of course, guns.

It seems progressives like their males to be weak, emotional, and willing to date “trans women.” Notice an August 10, 2023, article published by Medium under the headline, “Not Wanting to Date a Trans Person is Transphobic…Here’s Why.” That’s not the only example of the far-left spreading a message that could not be more off-putting for any straight red-blooded American male.

This is where SAM comes in. Part of a new $20 million voter outreach scheme, SAM is short for “Speaking with American Men: A Strategic Plan.”

Kamala Harris’ 2024 deputy campaign manager, Rob Flaherty, recently told The New York Times, “Over a long period of time, our party overdrew our trust account with the American people.” That seems like a very clever way of saying Democratic politicians have, for decades, pandered to certain demographics, cynically courting their votes while doing little or nothing to improve their lives.

At the same time, they talked down to and alienated other demographics. Christians and blue-collar white males, in particular, appeared to have been pinpointed as groups many Democrats felt were beyond their reach or did not fit in the brave new world they imagined they were shaping.

Tim Walz-ing Matilda

The Harris presidential campaign appeared to operate in a fantasy world in which it was cruising toward a joyous and easy victory. However, it may have woken up to one of the harsh realities of the Democratic Party’s struggle. Minnesota Governor Tim Walz was roped in as Kamala’s running mate. As Walz himself suggested in a recent interview, he was picked because he could “code talk to white guys.” The very fact that he put it like that is proof enough that he could not, in fact, code talk to white guys.

Not only was Walz not the man for the job, but he also probably made things worse. Prancing around on campaign stages in the most unserious – and unmanly – manner, pretending to change an air filter in a truck, which, clearly, he had never done before. Walz showed that Democrats – once considered the working-class party – had completely lost touch with the average American male.

Liberty Nation depends on the support of our readers.

Speaking of men, putting the SAM project into action does appear to undermine the progressives’ insistence that everything should be viewed through a non-binary – as opposed to a “gender-specific” – lens.

The SAM initiative indicates that the left, while realizing they have lost most working-class men – and perhaps a growing number of male college students – has learned little. Throwing millions of dollars at a problem to fund research and focus groups is how the Democratic Party seemingly tackles every issue – often without positive results.

What Men Want

As well, they don’t appear to have understood the root of this problem. Men are supremely uncomplicated. They don’t want politicians to speak with them. Men want politicians to enact policies that will provide good jobs and give them the ability to provide for and protect their families. Men want law and order, guns, beer, baseball, football, fishing, and barbeques on July 4th – without being maligned for celebrating. Men want real women, not screeching, angry, blue-haired harpies. Men want the Star-Spangled Banner – sung the way it should be sung and not the hip-hop version.

The article from The New York Times that quotes Rob Flaherty also claims, “Communities that Democrats had come to count on for a generation or more — young people, Black voters, Latinos — all veered toward the right in 2024, some of them sharply.” That may be true, but it seems, again, that it’s the voters who are being blamed. Perhaps these voting blocs – if one is to assume they are monolithic – did not veer anywhere. Perhaps the Democratic Party veered sharply to the left, and these people saw Trump as a sane alternative.

Democratic officeholders may need to find some humility and figure out that most people, probably even a great many lifelong Democratic voters, quite likely do not want what they are trying to push. They do not want America remade into a dystopian, woke DEI fantasy world in which dissent or even a simple longing for traditional values is not tolerated. Maybe they want America, how it should be – how it was always supposed to be.

There is a final – and probably the most assured – reason why SAM will not solve the Democratic Party’s problems. It is almost certain that whoever is out on the streets, on the phones, and in focus groups will follow directives to do one of two things. They will be speaking with men in solid blue areas, and for the most part, they’ll hear things that validate what they want to believe men hope for and expect. Or, they will speak to men in solid red places and will be so mortified by what they hear that they will abandon SAM and return to vilifying those Americans who refuse to see things their way.

Media Picks a Fight With Trump Over South Africa – Big Mistake

When the left-wing press insists something isn’t happening, it’s happening.

By May 22, 2025 @ Liberty Nation News

The establishment media has gotten itself into another fine mess, as the late, great Oliver Hardy would have put it. And, once again, it is destined for humiliation at the hands of President Donald Trump. On May 21, he hosted Cyril Ramaphosa, the president of South Africa, at the White House. This meeting came on the heels of 59 Afrikaners arriving in the United States – white South Africans of primarily Dutch descent who chose to flee a regime that is openly hostile toward them.

At one point during the encounter between the two leaders, Trump made his South African counterpart watch a video of a black South African politician, at a packed outdoor rally, inciting the murder of white farmers.

The US leftist media was not happy, but they have already picked out the paint and chosen the corner into which they will paint themselves – again. As if any more proof were needed that there is no independent journalism on the left and that these media outfits all draw from the same progressive talking points, the rebukes were swift and all but identical.

Trump’s claim that the white farmers of South Africa are the victims of genocide was attacked by much of the left-wing legacy media as “unfounded,” “false,” “unsubstantiated,” etc.

The New York Times and ABC News, in particular, took a drubbing on the X social media platform. Their attempts to deny the existence of a deadly situation for which the evidence is copious and beyond rational dispute drew much scorn and ridicule.

Reality in South Africa

The Encyclopedia Britannica defines genocide as “the deliberate and systematic destruction of a group of people because of their ethnicity, nationality, religion, or race.” Whether what has been happening in South Africa can be called genocide, then, is a matter of perspective. Race is not the only factor driving the undeniable victimization of Afrikaner farmers – but it is a factor. That’s hard to deny, given the videos of hundreds of black rallygoers chanting “kill the white farmer.”

The former African National Congress (ANC) leader and president of South Africa, Jacob Zuma, once sang, “Shoot the Farmer, Kill the Boer” at a party rally, even though the song was officially banned. Boer means farmer, but only white South Africans call themselves – or are known as – Boers.

It should be noted that South Africa’s ruling Marxist ANC doesn’t allow unsanctioned rallies. If a huge crowd of people is whipped into a frenzy and chanting for the death of certain people, then the ANC has given that event at least tacit approval.

In 2017, the Australian website news.com.au published the story of Sue Howarth and her husband, Robert Lynn. They had a farm in Dullstroom, South Africa. One night, their home was invaded by three black men who tortured them for hours – partly with a blowtorch – before driving them out to the side of the road and shooting them. Somehow, Howarth survived and was found the next day by passers-by. However, she died in the hospital from her injuries.

This is just one of a great many similar attacks. The news report noted, “Nearly every day, horrific acts of rape, torture and murder are carried out on a community under siege.” The story also cited figures from the Transvaal Agricultural Union (TAU) and AfriForum, a civil rights group. “In total, between 1998 and the end of 2016, 1,848 people have been murdered in farm attacks — 1,187 farmers, 490 family members, 147 farm employees, and 24 people who happened to be visiting the farm at the time.”

Not All Black and White

At the same time, there’s no all-out race war being waged in South Africa, which would justify the term “genocide.” The government isn’t openly killing whites, and there are in fact some minority political parties with white members of the government. Whites make up around 7% of the population. Most are descended from the Dutch, who began settling in what is now South Africa in the mid-1600s. Their language, Afrikaans, is predominantly a Germanic language, a form of Dutch but with its own characteristics.

It is also worth considering the overall crime rate. After the ruling white National Party ended the system of apartheid and ceded power to the ANC, South Africa – by far the most stable and prosperous country in sub-Saharan Africa – rapidly descended into chaos and poverty. For nearly three decades now, South Africa has been one of the most dangerous countries in the world.

Liberty Nation depends on the support of our readers.

Trump’s claims, then, may need some context, but they are neither false nor unfounded. White farmers are indeed the targets of systematic violence, whether one calls it genocide or not. The media has chosen to downplay the many lethal assaults on white farmers as merely a part of South Africa’s out-of-control crime wave.

Yet, the statistics – never mind the homicidal threats by South Africa’s black government-approved activist community – point to the deliberate targeting of white-owned farms. TAU spokesman Henk van de Graaf in 2016 told Swedish newspaper Nya Tider, “The average murder ratio per 100,000 of the population in the world is nine, I believe. In South Africa, it is 54. But for the farming community it is 138, which is the highest for any occupation in the world.”

Media Opens Pandora’s Box

America’s legacy media is battered and bruised and, figuratively, near death after a brutal few years. Promoting stories that turned out to be hoaxes while refuting an almost countless number of claims that were eventually verified has taken its toll.

Give Cable TV the Boot – Check This Out!

This was not the hill anti-Trump editorial boards should have chosen to die on. The president has now shone a spotlight on South Africa. While the so-called mainstream media will not investigate the plight of the Afrikaners, others no doubt will. The more they dig, the more apparent it will become that the South African regime is allowing, or at least ignoring, an ongoing murderous campaign in which whites are the victims and blacks the aggressors. That’s not something the American left wants people to hear.

The cacophony of indignation over Trump’s remarks about South Africa was too swift, too loud, and too orchestrated. Now, a lot more people are going to be taking an interest in something about which the leftist media would rather Americans knew nothing.

That corner seems to be getting smaller and more uncomfortable – and that paint isn’t drying anytime soon.

Democrats in Disarray After Representative’s Impeachment Backfire

Didn’t think this one through, as they say.

By May 2, 2025 @ Liberty Nation News Tags: Articles, Opinion, Politics

When Rep. Shri Thanedar (D-MI) posted a video on the social media platform X to announce his seven articles of impeachment for President Trump, he did so almost comically. It makes one wonder just what House Democrats were thinking. Thanedar was not exactly the best choice for what should be a grave and most serious course of action. But that question has now been answered. House Democratic leadership had not approved the congressman’s move, and the entire affair turned out to be an ill-timed miscalculation.

Additionally, it has exposed Thanedar as something of a grifter – if emerging reports about the immigrant pharma exec-turned-politician are accurate.

The impeachment adventure unraveled quickly. Top Democrats distanced themselves, with House Democratic Caucus Chairman Pete Aguilar (D-CA) telling reporters, “[T]his is not an exercise that we’re willing to undertake.”

“We’re going to win elections,” Sen. Ruben Gallego (D-AZ) bluntly remarked to the Washington Examiner. “We’re not playing those stupid politics.”

A Rogue Impeachment

The day after Thanedar posted his video, three of the four Democrats who initially co-sponsored his resolution – Reps. Kweisi Mfume (MD), Jerry Nadler (NY), and Robin Kelly (IL) – requested that their names be withdrawn. Aides to Kelly and Mfume stated that both had abandoned the effort after learning it was unsanctioned. Rep. Kelly “was under the impression that the resolution was drafted and reviewed by both the House Judiciary Committee and Leadership when she originally signed on during a vote series on the floor,” said her office.

For Discerning News Hounds

Donavan McKinney, who plans to primary Thanedar, served up perhaps the most pragmatic response to the impeachment push. “We’ve done this. We’ve been through this circus already. How many times has Trump been impeached? He got reelected. He’s not going anywhere. We need to figure out another strategy to fight back.”

Beyond the lack of appetite among House Democrats to talk about impeachment – at least for the time being – Thanedar’s effort has backfired on him personally. Old media reports of his pharmaceutical company’s bankruptcy resurfaced. Insolvency wasn’t the big story, though. After a bank took ownership of the company, AniClin Preclinical Services, Thanedar shuttered his lab and, apparently, just walked away, leaving more than 170 research animals, mostly dogs and monkeys, inside without food and water. The animals were later rescued.

More bad news may be about to engulf the man who took it upon himself to launch an impeachment. Right-wing activist Laura Loomer claims Federal Election Commission records show that Shri for Congress, Thanedar’s re-election campaign, is currently $730,313.81 in debt. Loomer posted details on X:

“This financial hole stems from a staggering -$1,208,286.58 payment recorded on February 28, 2025. According to the FEC filing, the reason for this negative payment is ‘INVESTMENT INCOME LOSS’. Curiously, Shri Thanedar himself is listed as the recipient of this negative payment. Is ‘Getting Trump’ a game reserved for those who grift the hardest?”

Some possible motives have emerged for Thanedar’s unapproved decision to target the president with articles of impeachment. Having apparently used campaign funds to pay off a personal debt, the congressman perhaps hoped to use his impeachment efforts to raise some or all of the money needed to get his campaign back in the black. Or maybe this was about elevating himself above his primary contenders in the eyes of voters.

Liberty Nation depends on the support of our readers.

It turns out – or, at least, it now appears – that Rep. Thanedar was not all that serious about impeachment. Perhaps that explains why his big reveal on X just didn’t come across as genuine. Whatever the case, it is another victory for the president – albeit one of little consequence – and another wound for congressional Democrats to lick as they continue to search for ways to stop the Trump train.

Progressives Pick Another Losing Battle After Second Judge Arrested

This latest crusade against the Trump administration is going to go about as well as “Maryland man.”

By | Apr 27, 2025 @ Liberty Nation News, Tags: Articles, Opinion, Politics

When a former judge was escorted out of his New Mexico residence in handcuffs, many leftists probably thought they had been gifted a fresh angle on the “Trump is a dictator” narrative. The morning after that April 24 incident, a second judge was put in handcuffs, in Wisconsin. Already, it is beginning to appear that some Democratic politicians are going to ensnare themselves as they did with the deported El Salvadoran, Kilmar Abrego Garcia: the “Maryland man.”

Siding with lawbreakers, or suspected lawbreakers, while ignoring the will of a significant majority of Americans is politically awkward enough. Now, once again, a number of leftist lawmakers are setting themselves up to defend the indefensible – and all because their hatred of President Trump has robbed them of the ability to deal reasonably and rationally with any cultural issue or policy position.

Judge Arrested for Preventing an Arrest

Milwaukee County Circuit Judge Hannah Dugan, the second judge arrested in as many days, allegedly facilitated the escape, from her own courtroom, of Eduardo Flores-Ruiz, an illegal alien from Mexico with a history of violence. Flores-Ruiz was at the courthouse for a pre-trial conference when federal agents arrived to detain him. Dugan reportedly obstructed the agents’ search and whisked Flores-Ruiz away to a back door. He was chased down in the street by the agents shortly thereafter.

Both judges, it appears, have committed federal crimes. Joel Cano, the former New Mexico judge arrested along with his wife, was apparently harboring an illegal alien, Cristhian Ortega-Lopez, in his home. Cano also reportedly admitted to FBI agents that he destroyed a cellphone belonging to the Venezuelan because it had incriminating photos on it, including pictures of Ortega-Lopez, allegedly a Tren de Aragua gang member, with firearms.

Ortega-Lopez was arrested in late February at Cano’s home. In March, the magistrate judge resigned and has since been permanently barred from serving on the bench by the New Mexico Supreme Court. Cano faces charges of harboring three alleged Tren de Aragua members and evidence tampering. Dugan has been charged with “obstructing and impeding a proceeding before a department or agency of the United States” and “concealing an individual to prevent his discovery and arrest.”

Much of the left’s reaction to these arrests has been astounding, to say the least. Once again, several progressives have shown they will leap headlong into any fight with President Trump, even if it means they find themselves defending something morally repugnant or legally questionable.

No One Is Buying What They Are Selling

As could have been expected, some Democratic officeholders rushed to express their outrage on X. Also, as expected, they attempted to gaslight Americans by spinning a story labeling Trump as a tyrant rather than face the fact that a judge was arrested for allegedly committing one or more felonies.

“The FBI arrested a Wisconsin judge who stood up for due process for immigrants,” wrote Rep. Ro Khanna (D-CA). “This is unprecedented. All of us need to stand up and speak out against arresting judges in this country. We are living in dangerous times.”

This is not the first (or even the second) time this has happened. In 2019, a Massachusetts District Court judge was indicted, along with another officer of the court, after attempting to help an illegal alien evade arrest by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents.

Liberty Nation depends on the support of our readers.

Senator Tina Smith (D-MN) decided to ignore the circumstances of the cases altogether. “Understand what this is: If Kash Patel and Donald Trump don’t like a judge, they think they can arrest them,” she posted. “This is stunning — we must stand up to this blatant power grab.”

It’s quite likely that Trump never heard of either judge arrested this past week until after the fact, and FBI Director Kash Patel may only have been vaguely aware of Cano’s existence because of an ongoing investigation relating to the illegal alien arrested at his residence.

Conservatives on X wasted no time reminding their left-wing acquaintances that “no one is above the law,” as the left has said numerous times since Donald Trump first walked into the Oval Office as President in 2017. That tiresome six-word phrase was often followed by, “Not even the president.” Yet the other senator from Minnesota, Amy Klobuchar – even after conceding that “we don’t have all the details,” described Judge Dugan’s arrest as “a grave step” that “undermines our system of checks and balances.” The X account called Republicans against Trump also weighed in: “Judges don’t get arrested in a functioning democracy.” The account did not elaborate on how a democracy functions if judges are, as the post suggests, entirely immune to the criminal justice system.

It seems, then, that presidents are not above the law, but judges are, in the eyes of Trump’s detractors.

Play Video
Bored? Check This Out!

If there were a cake to take, Sen. Ruben Gallego (D-AZ) took it by writing: “The Trump Administration just arrested a sitting judge. This is what happens in authoritarian countries. Stand up now—or lose the power to do so later. The administration must drop all charges and respect separation of powers.”

The Trump administration’s every act, just about, since January, has been blocked by federal judges. These judges have interfered in almost every aspect of executive branch policy. It appears that respect for the separation of powers is not something that’s very high on the list of things about which many leftists care.

Misreading America – Again

This is another fight Trump’s political enemies will probably lose, at least in the arena of public opinion. Few Americans, it is fair to assume, will like the idea that a judge can act with impunity, even when the evidence suggests the judge actively aided a violent illegal alien. Americans traditionally have been known for a basic sense of fairness and a sense that, indeed, no one should be above the law – especially those charged with enforcing it and applying it to suspected lawbreakers.

Several anti-Trumpers are now beginning to realize that beatifying a deported illegal alien suspected of both domestic abuse and being a member of MS-13 was not the best idea. Assuming both these judges are brought to trial, the evidence will be aired for all to see. And assuming the evidence against them is compelling, it will be interesting to see how long some Democrats continue trying to pretend the judges were only arrested because Trump is a dictator. Pulling one’s hand from a fire is the sane thing to do. Holding it there and waiting for the burning to stop is not.

Chuck Schumer a Likely Casualty of the Democrat Civil War

The party is broken – and once-integral cogs in the machine are slated for replacement.

by | Apr 24, 2025 @ Liberty Nation News, Tags: Articles, Opinion, Politics

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) has now perhaps become the most high-profile victim of the Democratic Party’s civil war – with less emphasis on the “civil.” A new breed of zealous progressives has been extending its influence over the party for at least the last decade, and President Donald Trump’s 2024 victory may have been the last straw for this radical faction. Schumer suddenly finds himself widely unpopular, and that may well bring an end to his leadership role and maybe even his political career.

The five-term senator has been trying to keep up with his party’s leftward drift. He has made a few less-than-convincing efforts to play the rabble-rouser at staged public protests against the Trump agenda – both recently and during Trump’s first White House term. But he is neither young nor cool, and that seems to be what Democrats are aiming for these days. Gov. Tim Walz also tried to pull off that act on the campaign trail as Kamala Harris’ running mate. Clearly, few were buying it, with predictable results.

Beginning of the End

The fall of Chuck Schumer began in March when he backed a continuing resolution that congressional Republicans negotiated with President Trump to avoid a government shutdown. After the vote, Trump took a victory lap and even praised Schumer for his last-minute support.

For the rising progressive disruptors, no cooperation with Trump is acceptable. Although it seemed clear that, this time around, Democrats wouldn’t be able to pass the blame for a shutdown, Schumer’s decision was seen as something of a betrayal.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) has announced her intention to challenge Schumer in 2028, and as things stand, she is in a strong position to deal Senate Democrats’ top dog a primary defeat. A late-March Data for Progress survey of more than 31,700 likely New York Democratic primary voters put AOC at 55% and Schumer at just 36%.

Rep. Ro Khanna, a progressive congressman from California, told CNN’s Dana Bash during a March appearance on the network that several House Democrats encouraged Ocasio-Cortez to challenge Schumer in the next general election. “When a company isn’t doing well you don’t keep the same team,” Khanna observed, without saying whether he was one of the Democrats he claims are backing AOC.

Schumer Touts His Judges

The growing rift within the Democratic Party – and the threat to the old guard – is not lost on senior elected officials, including Schumer. Perhaps attempting to maintain his standing, the senator from New York is touting the avalanche of legal obstructions to the Trump agenda.

Since Inauguration Day, almost every action taken by the Trump administration has met a legal challenge, and almost every one lands on the desk of a judge appointed by either Barack Obama or Joe Biden. With a few exceptions, these judges have issued some form of injunction to stop or delay the administration’s moves. It’s judicial activism on steroids, and Schumer is taking the credit. Appearing on PBS recently, the senator said the quiet part out loud – to borrow a now-popular turn of phrase. He admitted that the furious pace of appointing federal judges while he, Schumer, led the Senate during the Biden administration was driven by the Democrats’ desire to block Trump at every turn.

Liberty Nation depends on the support of our readers.

“We did put 235 judges, progressive judges, judges not under the control of Trump, last year on the bench, and they are ruling against Trump time after time after time,” Schumer told PBS News Hour’s Geoff Bennett.

Play Video
Your News – How You Like It!

Still, Schumer’s part in attempting to hijack the district and appellate court system to thwart the current president may not be enough to save him. A new Siena College survey gives Schumer a 39% favorability rating against an unfavorable rating of 49%. It is the first time this poll has shown a net unfavorable score for Schumer – and 10 points underwater isn’t merely a bad week.

It seems all signs are pointing to a new dawn for the Democratic Party – but the old establishment will not be making it to breakfast. Schumer’s number two in the Senate, Dick Durbin (D-IL), announced on April 23 that he would not seek re-election after serving in the upper chamber for nearly three decades. His final term will end in January 2027, so he won’t be around when (or if) Schumer launches a re-election bid. It seems that Joe Biden and Donald Trump – between them but in very different ways – finally broke the old Democratic Party. No one is too sure what it will look like when the pieces are put back together.

With Cory Booker or AOC, Will Dems Cross the Rubicon in 2028?

One thing seems increasingly likely: Democrats have no plans to move toward the center.

By | Apr 20, 2025 @ Liberty Nation News, Tags: Articles, Opinion, Politics

Although the latest media buzz suggests Kamala Harris is losing her grip on presidential nominee prospects for 2028, no one should count her out. There are those within Democratic circles who believe the party will be unable to sideline her despite the disastrous (but “flawless,” according to some) 2024 campaign. Still, Harris enjoys only a narrow lead over three other progressive Democrats in a recent poll of voters likely to participate in the 2028 presidential primaries. Former Transportation Director Pete Buttigieg and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) have emerged as strong contenders, but another potential competitor is also very much in the mix. Senator Cory Booker (D-NJ) is not ruling out a 2028 White House bid and is polling competitively with the other three top “maybe” candidates.

The progressive publication Zeteo, in collaboration with Data for Progress, recently published a survey of likely Democratic primary voters that gauges the 2028 field of Democrats. Harris is a maybe since she is considering running for governor of California, the primary election for which will take place in June of 2026.

When included in the list of potential candidates, Harris leads with 18%, with Buttigieg at 14%, and both Ocasio-Cortez and Cory Booker tying for third at 12%. Without Harris, the pecking order is Buttigieg (17%), plus Cory Booker and AOC tied at 14%. California Governor Gavin Newsom and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz round out the top five at 10% and 7%, respectively.

Four additional Democrats whose names are often mentioned in conversations about the next presidential election are all adrift in the single digits. They are all state governors. Josh Shapiro of Pennsylvania came in at 6% in the survey. Gretchen Whitmer of Michigan and the fabulously wealthy governor of Illinois, JB Pritzker, were favored by just 4% of likely primary voters, while Kentucky’s chief executive, Andy Beshear, received only 2% support.

Cory Booker Eyeing the White House?

Sen. Cory Booker, who these days seems to be in the habit of making statements that bear no resemblance to reality, says he’s focused on his 2026 re-election bid. He hasn’t closed the door on a 2028 campaign, though.

A mid-April Echelon Insights poll has Booker at 11%, behind Harris at 28%. Buttigieg and Ocasio-Cortez tie for third place with 7%. But this poll is more encouraging for Cory Booker – who gained nine points since the same poll in March – than it is for Kamala Harris, who lost five points since the last survey.

Booker’s polling bump appears to be a reward for his recent 25-hour filibuster on the Senate floor. The stunt was almost entirely dedicated to ranting wildly about Donald Trump and the much-touted but as yet unsubstantiated “threat to Democracy.”

Elected Democrats have not yet figured out what the rest of America – probably including most Democratic voters – have known for some time: If your entire platform is dedicated to smearing one person and hoping the people will hand power over to you based on nothing more than how much they have been convinced to hate and fear that specific person, you have a problem. Cory Booker appears to be entirely consumed by his disdain for President Trump. Like all his fellow 2028 Democratic potentials, however, Booker has offered nothing in the way of positive, constructive policy.

In 2028, focusing on that one man, who will not even be on the presidential ballot, is a losing strategy. In fact, once the 2026 midterms are over – unless Democrats win control of the House – Trump-bashing will no longer be a viable campaign strategy at all.

According to an April 17 Emerson College Polling/Inside California Politics/The Hill poll, 31% of California’s likely voters would pick Harris, the Golden State’s former attorney general. That might be a tempting prospect for Harris when measured against her realistic chances of becoming the next president of the United States.

No More Room for Moderates

All the leading Democratic candidates share a common dedication to the same radical progressive agenda that American voters roundly rejected in 2024. The party is showing no signs of considering a move back to the center. On the contrary, as things presently stand, in April of 2025, it appears the Democratic Party will field the furthest-left presidential candidate in its history, three and a half years from now. That holds true whether the eventual nominee is Harris, Booker, AOC, or Buttigieg.

Play Video

There’s a long way to go yet, and perhaps a lot of Democratic voters are hoping that someone will emerge from right field to steer the party back to rationality.

Now, a handful of prominent Democrats have chosen a new hill to die on: the return to the US of an MS-13 gang member and suspected domestic abuser who was recently deported to El Salvador. That they would dedicate themselves so firmly to bringing back a deported illegal alien with known ties to one of the most vicious gangs in the Western hemisphere – a man whose American wife applied for a restraining order against him – shows just how far the party has fallen.

Not only are these Democrats entirely adrift from the sentiments of most Americans, but they are now interfering in the domestic policy of a foreign country. The spectacle of it is jaw-dropping. And Cory Booker is now all in on this outrageous attempt to bully the government of El Salvador into freeing an El Salvadoran citizen from prison and sending him to a country he has no authorization to enter.

The former illegal alien in question, Kilmar Ábrego García, is now outside the jurisdiction of any US court. Nevertheless, Booker intends to travel to El Salvador to lobby for García’s return. It’s all about the publicity, of course, since neither Cory Booker, the US Supreme Court, nor President Trump himself has the authority to demand García be sent to America.

By bestowing the 2028 presidential nomination on any of their current leading candidates, Democrats could be crossing the Rubicon. History shows that no political movement or party survives a romance with extremism to move back to the mainstream. Sometime before the start of the presidential primary season, Democrats have what could be, for their party, a life-or-death decision to make.

Political Violence, Trump Assassination, Very Popular on the Left

A new study reveals left wing authoritarianism is back – and literally, with a vengeance.

The term “assassination culture” isn’t thrown around at cocktail parties or mentioned on TV news programs, but it does pop up several times in a 16-page study released on April 7 by the Network Contagion Research Institute (NCRI). In association with the Rutgers University Social Perception Lab, NCRI surveyed 1,264 American citizens to gauge their attitudes toward political violence. Shockingly – or perhaps not so much – 41% of Democrats said they believed killing a “powerful political leader” is “at least somewhat justified.” But when a less generic question was asked, one that mentioned two very prominent political figures by name, the numbers went even higher.

According to this detailed and data-rich study, 31% of respondents said murdering Elon Musk would be at least somewhat justified, and 38% said the same for President Trump. But among only those who identified as being somewhere left of center on the political spectrum, those numbers rose to 48% and 55%, respectively.

Political Violence and Left-Wing Authoritarianism

The study highlights the growth – or maybe the resurgence, to be more accurate – of left-wing authoritarianism. This appears to have been fueled by social media, particularly the BlueSky platform. BlueSky is rife with posts normalizing political violence against President Trump, his supporters, conservatives and Republicans in general, Christians, and, basically, anyone who believes in individual liberty and who reveres the Constitution.

There was also a significant correlation between those who felt they could justify the murders of Trump and Musk and those who approved of the assassination of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson by Luigi Mangione. The study notes, referring specifically to BlueSky, “Users are increasingly associating the memeification of Luigi Mangione with calls for political violence against Musk, Trump, and others, reflecting the growing cyber-social presence of assassination culture.”

Reddit is also a chief culprit. Efforts to moderate the extremism (predominantly from the left because conservatives are generally unwelcome) are thus far proving unsuccessful. One example included in the NCRI study is a screenshot of an exchange between two Reddit users. One posted the comment, “Rumor is muck [Musk] always has his kid on his shoulders to deter grassy knoll enthusiasts.” Another redditor responds, “If you ask me 1 potential future Musk is a worthy sacrifice for the betterment of the world.”

No one should be shrugging off this kind of thinking. It is worth remembering that, for every 100 or so basement-dwelling tough guy wannabes discussing on social media acts of violence they are neither willing nor able to carry out, there’s one unstable enough to act. Mangione was one. He had etched “deny, defend, depose” – a mantra of the extreme left – on the casing of the round that killed Brian Thompson. Ryan Routh and Thomas Crooks, the two leftists who attempted to assassinate Trump, were also examples of that one unstable enough individual.

This Is Not a Drill

The normalization, and even glorification, of political violence isn’t a mere fad confined to an extremist minority on the left. Rather, it has come to be accepted by a large percentage of left-wingers. As the study observes:

“The data reveal a structured endorsement of political violence targeting figures like Donald Trump and Elon Musk. These attitudes are not fringe — they reflect an emergent assassination culture, grounded in far-left authoritarianism and increasingly normalized in digital discourse.”

Is the penchant for political violence found only on the left? That’s a question not easily answered. Few serious acts of violence motivated purely by political ideology have been carried out by right-wingers in the US in at least the last two decades. The January 6 riot on Capitol Hill that saw calls for then-Vice President Mike Pence to be hanged, was a rare and notable exception.

Still, this study found that 29% of respondents who identified as Republican agreed that killing a “powerful political leader” was at least somewhat justified. By contrast, 70.89% of Republicans and 58.84% of Democrats felt it was “not at all justified.”

The NCRI study concludes with an ominous warning about political violence, which the powerbrokers, influencers, pundits, political operators, and activists on both sides of the divide should heed: “Unless political and cultural leadership explicitly confronts and condemns this trend, NCRI assesses a growing probability of real-world escalation. Given the current economic volatility and institutional distrust, the online normalization of political violence may increasingly translate into offline action.”
