Hating on Trump: Ex-Conservatives Share Their TDS at DC Summit

It will likely resemble a funeral for a disgraced and extinct movement.

By Feb 21, 2025 @ Liberty Nation News, Tags: Articles, Opinion, Politics

Watching people associated with a spent force scream into the darkness is a sad spectacle. Of course, we are witnessing that in the Democrats’ fallen world, though it is exactly what you would expect from a party still reeling from losing an election that both sides rightly portrayed as the most important in a lifetime. But what about those who abandoned (some would say betrayed) their party and made bed with the opposition (some would say enemy)? Knowing when to quit is a mark of maturity in politics, as in life. Still, there remain plenty of Trump-hating former conservatives and mainstream Republicans suffering so mightily from Trump Derangement Syndrome (TDS) that they openly supported Kamala Harris for president. And they’re bringing the gang back together this weekend to console each other now that their world has crashed and burned.

The Principles First Summit (PFS), a name implying moral superiority, will be held in Washington starting Friday. It will feature a roster of speakers heavily populated by one-time conservatives who have raised tens of millions of dollars over three election cycles to take down Donald Trump. The timing of PFS was deliberately chosen to coincide with CPAC, the much-anticipated annual event that serves as a gathering for conservatives/Republicans, with President Trump scheduled to speak there on Saturday. Perhaps the organizers of PFS, including founder Heath Mayo, were convinced their girl Kamala would be victorious and that they would gather to celebrate as pro-Trumpers simultaneously drowned their sorrows. But now that the opposite has come to pass in emphatic fashion, the rhetoric at this scheduled celebration of self-proclaimed virtue will probably more closely resemble a funeral dirge.

It’s one thing to dislike or even express disdain for a politician in your party. It’s quite another to fall into the welcoming arms of those on the other side and then consummate your betrayal by openly supporting a candidate who stands for everything you have fought against for your entire public career. You have then become a useful idiot. Imagine being a conservative who hates Donald Trump so severely that you would openly advocate for a left-wing radical who would alter the face of our republic. We all know Kamala Harris would have done just that.

Talk about throwing the baby out with the bathwater.

Where’s Liz?

At the center of the rogue’s gallery of Trump haters sits Liz Cheney, who went even further than her Trump-deranged, pro-Harris fellow travelers by campaigning side-by-side with Joe Biden’s vice president. But as Trump cuts through the disgraced DC Swamp like a hot knife through butter with broad public approval, Ms. Cheney has been reduced to sitting in the peanut gallery, likely waiting for the president to blunder so she can engage in I-told-you-so. But she is evidently so embarrassed by the election outcome – and her role in the campaign – that even as the poster child for TDS, she is not scheduled to appear on the rostrum for the PFS gathering of losers.

New banner Memo - From the Desk of Senior Political Analyst Tim Donner 1

The list of scheduled speakers reads like a who’s-who of Trump-hating ex-Republicans and conservatives: There is Bill Kristol, the founder of the defunct neoconservative journal The Weekly Standard, who on Thursday penned a column concerning the administration’s negotiations aimed at ending the war in Ukraine, in which he said: “[M]y hope [is] that this American mission abroad fails.” Yes, he actually wrote that.

Also on the list is Trump’s former security advisor and war hawk, John Bolton; then George Conway, who saw fit to constantly embarrass his now ex-wife, Kellyanne Conway, with unhinged rants about Trump when she worked for the 45th president. Adam Kinsinger, the former GOP congressman who worked hand-in-hand with Nancy Pelosi on the January 6 congressional committee, will be there, and so will Michael Steele, former head of the Republican National Committee and now a commentator on fast-fading MSNBC. Then there’s an array of speakers from two platforms created specifically to house disaffected anti-Trump Republicans, The Bulwark and The Dispatch, including Mona Charen, Steve Hayes, and Jonah Goldberg.

Trump Shuns Strong Women?

Also scheduled to speak at PFS is Mark Cuban, one of the few mega-billionaires who has refused to come alongside President Trump. You will recall that during the presidential campaign, Cuban famously declared of Trump that “you never see him around strong, intelligent women. Ever,” a statement that was thrown back in his face when Trump selected the likes of Susie Wiles, Tulsi Gabbard, and Kristi Noem for critical positions in his administration.

Then there is former New Jersey governor and presidential candidate Chris Christie, who has gone back and forth over the years in supporting and opposing Trump. Noting Christie’s appearance, the New Jersey-based Shore News Network described the gathering in stark terms: “The summit can be called the GOP’s ‘Biggest Loser’ event of the year, featuring the who’s who of the far-left wing of the Republican Party and progressive mainstreamers. The featured speakers roster is a d-list of anti-Trump current and former politicians and bureaucrats.”

Skip the Scrolling – Head to Roku!

In announcing her appearance at PFS, longtime Republican Sarah Longwell, publisher of The Bulwark, wrote: “We’re in a new era now, and it’s obvious people are scared. Billionaires and politicians are self-censoring. Lots of people are choosing to pre-surrender to Trump rather than speak out … Dark times like these are when we need each other most.”

It is hard to imagine a group with less power and influence in the political realm than the featured speakers at PFS. Most of these people have renounced their long-standing affiliations and ideology because of their deranged hatred of a man who stands for almost all of the same policies and principles to which they were long known to subscribe. And their newfound allies on the left no longer have any use for them. They are losers of the worst kind, those who betrayed their own beliefs, failed, and are left to wander in the wilderness.

Kristol Clarity On ‘Conservative Scholars’ Seeking to Ban Trump

Shockingly, erudite rightists hailed by NYT aren’t above the fray after all.

For what seems like the millionth time since former President Donald Trump first went down those escalator steps in June 2015, the big-box media has dug up “real” and “authentic” conservatives to loftily rule against his fitness to be the Republican Party standard bearer. The daydreams always involve permanently banishing Trump from the world of American politics. The latest tactic? Keep him off the ballot in 2024.

“Conservative Case Emerges to Disqualify Trump for Role on Jan. 6,” reads the headline of an article published by The New York Times on Aug. 10. This has drawn renewed attention now that certain New Hampshire Republicans are indeed hoping to forcibly exclude Trump from the state’s presidential ballot next year.

The NYT was eager to stress the alleged rock-ribbed rightist bona fides of the subjects in question. “Two prominent conservative law professors have concluded that Donald J. Trump is ineligible to be president under a provision of the Constitution that bars people who have engaged in an insurrection from holding government office. The professors are active members of the Federalist Society, the conservative legal group, and proponents of originalism, the method of interpretation that seeks to determine the Constitution’s original meaning,” the paper exclaimed in an especially pregnant lead sentence.

‘We’re Constitutional Scholars’

The article takes pains to point out that these eminent legal scholars were guided only by free inquiry, bringing no preconceived notions to the table:

“The professors – William Baude of the University of Chicago and Michael Stokes Paulsen of the University of St. Thomas – studied the question for more than a year and detailed their findings in a long article to be published next year in The University of Pennsylvania Law Review.

‘When we started out, neither of us was sure what the answer was,’ Professor Baude said. ‘People were talking about this provision of the Constitution. We thought: “We’re constitutional scholars, and this is an important constitutional question. We ought to figure out what’s really going on here.” And the more we dug into it, the more we realized that we had something to add.’”

This cherished contribution to conservative thought was quickly seized upon by a notable New Hampshire Republican keen on preventing Trump from being an option to Granite State voters in 2024.

“Bryant ‘Corky’ Messner, an attorney and prominent Republican who won the 2020 Republican Senate nomination thanks in great part to Trump’s support, is mulling a lawsuit if Trump later this year files to put his name on the New Hampshire primary ballot,” Fox News reported on Aug. 30. “This article presented a very, very, compelling analysis that in fact Donald Trump is disqualified from being on the ballot,” Messner told Fox, referring to the piece authored by Baude and Paulsen.

Dominant establishment news site Politico, which is so in thrall to ruling progressive elites that it allowed French President Emmanuel Macron to edit the content of an April interview it conducted with him, transparently used Messner to justify crafting a lengthy article playing up the notion that Trump could be disqualified from the ballot is indeed a compelling legal question. “I’m a Constitutional conservative. The words say what they say,” Messner told Politico. “I quite frankly believe it is in Donald Trump’s best interest to get this looked at as quickly as possible.”

But even Macron’s favorite American political journal had to admit that the scheme is a longshot at best. What Politico or The New York Times did not tell readers, however, is that the scholarly article Messner was leaning on while posing as a staunch “Constitutional conservative” is as impartial as CNN on Election Night.

Stowing Away the Trump Derangement Baggage

A cursory look at the two authors finds them canoodling with noted Never Trumper Bill Kristol and expressing open loathing of Trump years before their supposedly above-the-fray piece.

Michael Stokes Paulsen “is a graduate of Northwestern University, Yale Law School, and Yale Divinity School,” his Federalist Society bio states. “Professor Paulsen has taught as a visiting professor at Princeton University [and] Georgetown” and “was a fellow in the James Madison Program in American Ideals and Institutions, in the Department of Politics at Princeton University.”

In other words, his Swamp-soaked academic credentials are impeccable.

Two days after Jan. 6, 2021, Paulsen penned a frothy opinion piece for The Bulwark, the notorious Never Trumper website that touts Kristol as “editor-at-large.” Its unambiguous title: “The Constitutional and Moral Imperative of Immediate Impeachment.” Its lead sentence: “President Trump should be impeached and removed from office immediately.” Paulsen’s screed was the exact opposite of calm and sober-minded.

Trump “has, without doubt, committed acts constituting ‘high Crimes and Misdemeanors’ within the meaning of the Constitution’s impeachment standard,” Paulsen asserted. “He has attempted to preserve himself in office, notwithstanding his defeat for reelection, by seeking to subvert the results of a series of popular democratic state elections — a terrible attack on our constitutional republican government. He has done so by developing a tissue of lies and repeating them endlessly, in a fraudulent effort to undermine public confidence in election results.”

Baude also has a fine elitist academic resume. He “received his BS in Mathematics from the University of Chicago and his JD from Yale Law School” and “was a fellow at the Stanford Constitutional Law Center,” the Federalist Society bio details. On Oct. 8, 2021, Baude sat down for a cozy chat at the “Conversations With Bill Kristol” podcast dedicated to discussing “electoral subversion.” Care to guess who they wanted to talk about? “I think it’s terrifying that one important way to be in good standing in the Republican Party and to rise to prominence in the Republican Party is I guess the big lie, it’s to say, ‘I believe Donald Trump won the election and that Republicans who failed to take his side, failed to find a way to keep him in office, have betrayed him and I’ll be a true party loyalist,’” Baude told Kristol.

“And then you, of course, have the storming of the Capitol [on Jan. 6], which in some ways, I mean, was the most dramatic and got the most coverage,” he luridly stated. “In some ways, it’s not nearly as scary as a lot of the other pieces of this puzzle.” While expressing relief that Trump was not allowed to advance his election fraud case, Baude let Kristol know just where he stands as a “conservative.”

“The treatment of Lynne [sic] Cheney makes that more nerve-wracking,” he declared. “Although, the fact that [Senate Minority Leader] Mitch McConnell [R-KY] remains in control of his party in the Senate is encouraging. He made no bones about the fact that he did not like what Trump was doing, did not think it was proper. He gave some strong speeches. Now, he didn’t ultimately join the impeachment effort, didn’t ultimately have the votes. I get that. So, the fact that he’s still around, makes me sleep a little easier. If he’s displaced by some other senators, then I’ll really get nervous.”

There you have it. Meet the two constitutional conservative heroes as touted by The New York Times. Gee, that whole “when we started out, neither of us was sure what the answer was” tripe suddenly sounds a whole lot less convincing, doesn’t it?

Fact Check: Secretary of State Antony Blinken Claims Trump Admin Did Not Leave an Afghanistan Withdrawal Plan

Kristina Wong

CLAIM: Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Monday during a House hearing claimed that the Trump administration did not leave them a plan for withdrawing from Afghanistan.

“We inherited a deadline; we did not inherit a plan,” he said during a House Foreign Affairs Committee hearing, the first time the Biden administration has had to publicly face members of Congress on the botched Afghanistan withdrawal.

VERDICT: False. Former Trump Pentagon Chief of Staff Kash Patel has said on the record in an op-ed that he handed over the administration’s withdrawal plan to the Biden transition team.

“We handed our entire plan to the incoming Biden administration during the lengthy transition. The new team simply wasn’t interested,” ....................We handed our entire plan to the incoming Biden administration during the lengthy transition. The new team simply wasn’t interested."

Patel also told Breitbart News that plans for removing Americans, equipment, and machinery, as well as for contingencies, was handed to the Biden administration, but “they just basically threw it out the window and fast forward six, seven, eight months.”..............To Read More....

Could Common Sense Yet Prevail Over Biden’s Plan for Taxing and Spending?

By , Special to the Sun | September 14, 2021

My overall take on the reconciliation information coming out of the House is simple: Go woke, go broke, and this whole reckless tax and spend and regulate plan will inflict great damage on the blue collar, middle-class workforce, jobs, wages, and prosperity. Great damage.

I love it today when Secretary Blinken blamed President Trump’s conditional Afghan withdrawal plan for the catastrophe executed by the Biden administration. Love that. Let me get this right — they were absolutely bound and hand-cuffed to Mr. Trump’s plans.

Yet wait a minute, the Democrats have religiously, obsessively, derangedly overturned every Trump policy. They overturned his tax cuts, his regulatory reduction, his energy independence, his support for Israel, his Iranian hostility, his border policies on security and immigration, his policies towards police, recidivist crime, among other things.

Are we supposed to believe that Mr. Biden’s Trump Derangement Syndrome forced him to follow Mr. Trump's Afghan withdrawal policies? Which, by the way, were conditioned and gated in a number of areas that were never fulfilled. The former president himself said he would have taken fierce combat action against the terrorist Taliban if they acted out as they did in breaking his deal during the Biden evacuation.........To Read More......

Is Trump the Future of the Republican Party?

Fire your local Mitt Romney and replace him with someone who loves America and hates politics.
By

People think of Trump Derangement Syndrome as mostly a phenomenon of the Left, and mostly unprecedented. It’s easy to get the impression that Donald Trump has taught the Left to hate as they have never hated, and that all previous Republican presidents were moderate by comparison and much more broadly acceptable to America.

But the Left was just as vicious about George W. Bush in his day, and they hated him just as much. He was called a threat to world peace, a devotedly evil man, a stupid man, or all of these: To quote a 2004 Slate article, “he chose stupidity. Bush may look like a well-meaning dolt. On consideration, he’s something far more dangerous: a dedicated fool.”

What is unusual about Trump is not that the Left hates him, but that a lot of the Right hates him, too. And by “a lot of the Right” I don’t refer to actual voters, who turned out for Trump in unprecedented numbers and with unprecedented enthusiasm. I mean the rightist establishment—journalists, intellectuals, and professional politicians. A large portion joined the Left in espousing that Trump was a blowhard, a bully, and not a team player. They warned us that his tweets were alienating people. And by “people,” they meant themselves. .............To Read More....

The Time of Romney-Ryan Republicanism Is Over

Paul Ryan (I know, sorry for bringing him up) delivered a speech at the Reagan Presidential Library at the end of May in which he sought to reassert himself as a leader of the Republican Party.  His shtick was the same spit wash that Mitt Romney, Liz Cheney, and George Bush have tried rubbing on the Republican electorate time and again since Biden's official installation.  We're better than this reality TV outsider who hijacked the party.  Boo to populism; yay to True Conservatism, Inc.!  This is serious, people; we're at a 'crossroads' here.................

After all these years, Paul Ryan and his "Washington Generals" cohorts are still so blinded by their hatred for Donald Trump that they'd prefer the double-team of Mao's Cultural Revolution and Stalin's dissident purge (Where did everyone go?  I don't know; they just "disappeared.") presently napalming freedom in America to taking a hard look at why Republican voters abandoned them in the first place.............

While recognizing that Trump actually succeeded in expanding the party's appeal to a diverse electorate (a truth that most every other NeverTrump has buried while ignoring that President Trump won more votes in 2020 than any sitting president in history — and nearly ten million more than Obama won in re-election)............Is it any wonder after decades of being led by a bunch of mealy-mouthed Washington neoconservatives who go out of their way to demean regular, everyday Americans, Republican voters finally said enough?  ..........In reacting to Paul Ryan's speech, an online commenter going by the name Zendor summed it up with a clever portmanteau: "The only leadership shown by Rinosaur Ryan is leading other rinos to extinction." .....To Read More....

The Coup de Grâce for Nikki Haley’s Presidential Aspirations

February 18, 2021 By Janet Levy

“I don’t think he’s going to be in the picture. I don’t think he can. He’s fallen so far.” Thus spoke Nikki Haley -- former South Carolina governor, former ambassador to the UN, and now presidential aspirant -- exposing once again her self-serving bona fides. In denigrating Donald Trump, the establishment Republican ended up revealing to Trump’s loyal base of 75-80 million supporters just how much she is motivated by opportunism. Also, just how out of touch she is with the rank and file.

Haley’s betrayal of President Trump took the form of a forceful condemnation: “We need to acknowledge he let us down. He went down a path he shouldn’t have, and we shouldn’t have followed him, and we shouldn’t have listened to him again.  And we can’t let that ever happen again.” The timing of the tirade couldn’t have been more opportune: for maximum political effect, she released it just before Trump’s legal team presented his defense.

Making common cause with Democrats and disaffected Republicans, she held Trump responsible for the January 6th Capitol riot, disingenuously telling members of the Republican National Committee that the president “will be harshly judged by history.” Does she believe her own words, or is this political theater?

She was surely privy to Trump’s several recordings, importuning followers “to peacefully and patriotically make your voices heard.” She would also have been aware of other events that exonerated Trump from the false charges of fomenting a so-called “insurrection.” Many publications reported that planning for the Capitol attack occurred openly online for weeks.Known Antifa members disguised in MAGA attire played a part in the riots, as did at least one prominent Black Lives Matter activist

Despite knowing this, she chose to blame the president for political advantage.

Haley gratuitously stated that she’s “deeply disturbed” by Trump’s actions since the election, adding, “The person that I worked with is not the person that I have watched since the election.” She gave no credence to evidence of election fraud but made this insidious statement: “I understand that genuinely, to his core, he believes he was wronged.”..........To Read More.....

CNN Hack Threatens Republicans on Live TV: ‘Living On Borrowed Time’

New York Times columnist Tom Friedman issued quite a threat to Republicans this week and CNN didn’t do a thing about it.  During an interview Monday night on “Cuomo PrimeTime,” Friedman told anchor Chris Cuomo that China was better than the United States because they had fast trains and didn’t need to deal with Republicans.  After saying Republicans are “living on borrowed time,” Friedman then arrogantly asked: “But, you know what I’ve been thinking about, Chris, as I was listening to your show, the lead-in here. I was thinking, like, what are they doing in China today?”

Friedman then praised China for having a bullet train while some Americans had chosen to elect freshman Georgia GOP Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene. Friedman said:..............To Read More....

My Take - This was sent via e-mail from one of my correspondents, and here's their thoughts on this:

"Over and over the left proves they've zero compunctions about threatening the right with death, reeducation camps, drone bombings (too bad about the expected 'collateral damage" deaths also), etc., etc., etc., hounding them out of their livelihoods, taking their children from them, making it impossible for them to even shop or eat at a restaurant (Maxine Waters, etc.), and so on.

But it's crucial to impeach Trump so he can't run in 2024 because he suggested peaceful patriotic protests. And that's magically inciting insurrection. And China, well, with their examples of reeducation and labor camps (including rapes, murders), one child policy, communism, etc., well, they're the goal!  We should just be more like them!!

Oh, the insanity!! (and gross lack of humanity!)"

The GOP Purge Is Coming!

By January 27th, 2021

The Never Trumpers & Republicans for Biden cabal of corrupted politicians don’t realize the danger headed their way. I wrote, following the Left’s successful coup against President Trump, there are now two Republican party’s, Trump’s, if he wishes to embrace it and the other one, and the other one is in danger of being replaced. Good riddance. It’s a start!

I think the purge may have started to roll in Arizona. The Arizona Republican Party under the strong leadership of Chairwoman Kelli Ward has censured, for what it’s worth now, Cindy McCain, John McCain’s widow, Arizona Governor Doug Ducey, and former Arizona GOP Senator Jeff Flake (what an appropriate name) for actively supporting President Trump’s removal. Kelli Ward has shown her true conservative grit as a solid supporter of President Trump who, unlike the three mentioned above, have stood firmly against endorsing the Left’s baseless claims of no election fraud in her state...........To Read More....

Republican Rats & Trump Flee Sinking Ship of State!

They Exit Stage Left!

By Larry Klayman January 9, 2021

Last Wednesday, Americans rose up because they could not take it anymore, and entered the Capitol Building, to try to take control of their own so-called government, which had abandoned them with lies and deceit and subverted our democracy with fraudulent November 3, 2020 elections, both presidential and otherwise. Sure, there probably were a few non-representative Antifa infiltrators in the masses, but not even these persons committed any major crimes by simply breaking a few windows. The patriots who then chose to sit at the desk of the evil and vile Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, did no harm and indeed that desk does not belong to Pelosi but to We the People. Not a hair on the head of any senator or congressman, who fled to hide in the bunker like political cockroaches, was assaulted. To the contrary a brave female military veteran protestor was shot and assassinated at point blank range, by a Capitol security guard............ Continue Reading.....

Famed Watergate Reporter and Retired Federal Prosecutor Agree – Hillary Clinton is Corrupt!

By Onan Coca

One has to wonder if people inside the Hillary Clinton campaign and in the Clinton Foundation are starting to get worried that their protectors in the Obama administration can continue to protect them. The folks at WikiLeaks are nowhere near finished with releasing the many, many leaked emails from the Clinton team, and there are rumors that the worst releases are still to come. Meanwhile, the Clinton campaign has also found a way to anger the folks at Anonymous, 4Chan, and Reddit, which means that WikiLeaks may soon have even more information to be leaking to the world.

On top of the continuous onslaught of evidence that Hillary Clinton is a deeply flawed candidate and human being, the Democrat nominee for President is beginning to lose folks who had been defending her. People like liberal journalist Bob Woodward, who became famous after bringing down criminal behavior in the Nixon administration, are now abandoning Clinton and agreeing that she seems to be corrupt. Here’s what Woodward just told Fox News SUNDAY’s host Chris Wallace:.......To Read More....

My Take - I started to watch this show but after listening to that blithering idiot Karl Rove spout his claptrap about Trump highlighting the idea this election is rigged and won't automatically accept the outcome was wrong because we have a "tradition" of accepting the outcome creating a stable transition of government, and then Kimberley Strassel, from the Wall Street Journal, spouted much the same thing claiming the idea of voter fraud is inappropriate - and these are the conservatives - I changed the channel.  Perhaps I was bit hasty. See the video.

Embarrassing Festival Of Never Trump Losers Occurs For Some Reason

Kurt Schlichter Feb 27, 2020

Ahoy, suckers! Conservative, Inc., is back at it again, trading in its classic cruise ship motif for a figurative dinghy in its never-ending quest to separate you from your money and themselves from the shredded tatters of their ruined dignity.
Woke Rule No. 1 is that anything with “Principles” in its name is a grift. Now, something called “Principles First” – ugh – is trying to shoehorn into CPAC’s spotlight with its National Summit on Principled Conservatism” to be held in D.C. on February 29th, and for the low, low, almost certainly lib tech tycoon-subsidized price of $10, you can attend this sexless Never Trump Freaknik.

It’s an opportunity to get one-on-one with all your favorite relevancy-challenged B-list MSNBCNN guests for a full day of complaining about Donald Trump and having them show you on the doll exactly where Trump hurt them. Brace yourselves for impassioned pleas by impotent weirdos to vote for the crusty commie curmudgeon because Trump sends mean tweets, plus plenty of “Oh well I nevers” and “We’re better than thats” as Pearl Clutchfest 2020 gets well and truly lit. Mitt Romney: We abandoned an ally

October 18, 2019

Senator Mitt Romney (R-UT) on Thursday ripped US President Donald Trump over the ceasefire reached in Syria, while calling his decision to withdraw troops “a bloodstain in the annals of American history.” “The announcement today is being portrayed as a victory. It is far from a victory. Serious questions remain about how the decision was reached precipitously to withdraw from Syria and why that decision was reached,” Romney said, according to The Hill.

US Vice President Mike Pence announced earlier on Thursday that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan agreed to halt Turkey’s offensive in northern Syria for 120 hours in order to allow Kurdish forces known as the YPG to evacuate.

In exchange, Trump will lift the sanctions on Turkey he imposed this week and not impose further sanctions, Pence added...........To Read More...

  • Mitt in 2019: protecting Kurds ‘one of our most sacred duties
  • Mitt in 2007: ‘Kurdish nationalism could destabilize the border with Turkey’
October 18, 2019 By Thomas Lifson

Politician Mitt Romney has joined journalists like Bill Kristol and Jennifer Rubin in contradicting his previously-espoused positions when President Trump acts on them.

Back in 2007 when he was running for president, Romney took to the pages of Foreign Affairs, the journal published by the Council on Foreign Relations, aka Globalism Central, to warn against the danger presented by unthinking American adherence to Kurdish nationalism. Joel Pollak of Breitbart remembered:

In an essay for Foreign Policy regarded as a definitive statement of his foreign policy views at the time, Romney warned that “Kurdish nationalism could destabilize the border with Turkey.” ...........Romney was following the familiar diplomatic truism annunciated by 19th century British prime minister Lord Palmerston: “Nations have no permanent friends or allies, they only have permanent interests.”

Yet now that President Trump has withdrawn fewer than 50 American troops from an area near the Turkish-Syrian border, suddenly we have a “scared” obligation to the Kurds.......President Trump is clear that he operates on the principle of putting the interests of his nation first, just as every other head of state does, or should do............To Read More

Why the Left So Despises Donald Trump

By CONRAD BLACK, Special to the Sun | July 26, 2019

Like many others, I have for some time been trying to understand Trump Derangement Syndrome, the phenomenon of otherwise reasonable people reacting irrationally to some peculiar quality of the president, a quality especially in evidence when he is in the presence of his supporters.

Some of it is easy enough to comprehend. Unlike any president since at least Jackson, Mr. Trump was elected by attacking the entire political class from right to left and practically all leaders of both parties and the parties themselves. He managed to stir up enough discontent to win the nomination of one of the parties and then got just enough votes in the right places to win the election...........Continue Reading

Trump Is Winning the Little Cold War With Iran

The small-minded critics of his policy are doing themselves and our Mideast allies no favors.

by Brandon J. Weichert June 23, 2019

Since the rise of the Islamic Republic of Iran in 1979, Iran has been in a state of ideological, religious cold war against the United States and its allies. Desiring to become the dominant force in the Mideast, Iran has worked to export its particular brand of Islamist revolution beyond its present borders. At the same time, like the Soviet Union with its specific version of Marxist-Leninism, Iran’s leaders have sought to expand their country’s zone of influence and control beyond its current national boundaries, to encompass the entire region — looking at the outside world in Manichean terms: divided between Iran’s Twelver Shiite brand of political Islam and the unbelieving world waiting to be liberated by their green revolution.

Setting the Mideast Ablaze

Iran engaged in behavior very similar to that of the old Soviet Union when its fervor for worldwide revolution was at its highest. In his book Setting the East Ablaze: Lenin’s Dream of an Empire in Asiathe incredible Peter Hopkirk details how Soviet agents of influence spread out to the former Russian imperial states in Central Asia with intentions of reabsorbing them into Lenin’s ideological Soviet empire..........To Read More...

My Take - If you like all the trouble Iran has caused in the world in recent decades - thank Jimmy Carter - he was the one who allowed the Shah's government to be destroyed.  The left demanded the end of his government because he was a tyrant.  Really?  And yet the Iranians had far more of everything under him including freedom, than they do under the current Islamic maniacs.  And the left loves them.  Leftist insanity, leftist hypocrisy, leftist stupidity.  Democrats, progressives, liberals, socialists and communists and RINO's.  All terms describing insanity.

Videos of the day

There are three videos here.

The first is a Brit whose voice I found so irritating I couldn't watch it all, followed by two of my favorite writers, Victor Davis Hanson on Democrats, Republicans and Trump Derangement Syndrome (great presentation), and Larry Elder dealing with Reparations and Race in America.
