Rafael Álvarez was up at 6:30 a.m. to warm milk for his baby daughter when he heard the sound of pebbles falling.
“That’s when the floor below us came loose. We were left hanging in the air, then fell into the abyss. Álvarez, 41, a baker, was buried in rubble to his waist. His mother, daughter and two others were killed when the 101-year-old building collapsed. “Save the babies!” were his mother’s last words, he said.

Democratic Rep. Marcia Fudge, who many Democrats in the Congress wanted to run against Nancy Pelosi for Speaker of the House, visited Cuba with members of the Congressional Black Caucus in an effort to lift the American embargo of Cuba, said she found Fidel's brother Raul to be "really a very intelligent, a very engaging, entertaining guy, actually." One of the members of the Caucus commented, "I think that what really surprised me, but also endeared me to him, was his keen sense of humor, his sense of history and his basic human qualities."
They also met with Fidel briefly, but I bet they never noticed the country was crumbling down around them, or the murders Fidel, Raul and Che committed against innocent people, or how many innocent political prisoners he's held in prison for what we would consider first amendment rights.
