The History Lesson You Never Learned! The History Lesson You Were Never Taught!

By Rich Kozlovich
This is the history lesson everyone should have gotten and never received.  As I have said they in the past – they just won’t teach history.
I have known about the Venona Intercepts for years, and I have known about the infiltration of Soviet agents and fellow travelers who worked to support and promote Stalin and the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics from the 1920’s and on.  I knew that Joe McCarthy was a nut job, but I also knew he was accurate in his description of Communist infiltration of the State Department.  Remember that the House of Representatives, run by the Democrats at the time also held hearings on this, known as the House on Un-American Activities Committee (HUAC).  But that was only the tip of the ice berg.

Wartime agencies such as the Office of Strategic Services, the forerunner of the CIA, the Office of War Information (OWI) and the Board of Economic Warfare (BEW) were heavily penetrated by "Communists, fellow travelers, and Soviet agents".  They were in positions to exert influence regarding intelligence, information flow and procurement. When the war ended thousands of those staffers would end up being transferred to the State Department, many of them Soviet agents.   "The security problems hatched in the war would thus come to roost at State."

Soviet spies and sympathizers infiltrated the White House, Department of Defense, and all of the agencies created by Franklin Delano Roosevelt.  But mostly they heavily infiltrated the Treasury Department, which had enormous influence on FDR in his frail dealings with Stalin at Yalta and Teheran, virtually giving Eastern Europe to Stalin and later Asia via the Communist takeover against the Nationalist government run by Chiang Kai-shek.
I have posted information in the past discussing this, but two things happened recently that have motivated me to really expand on this important history.  A history that is virtually unknown to most people.  First, I have been reading, Stalin’s Secret Agents, The Subversion of Roosevelt’s Government, by M. Stanton Evans and Herbert Romerstein, and secondly I watched the attacks on Michelle Bachmann.  Mark Levin noted the scorn congressional colleagues directed at “Reps. Michele Bachmann, R-Minn., Louie Gohmert, R-Texas, and three other House members who asked for an examination of evidence that the parent organization of jihadist groups such as al-Qaida and Hama were wielding influence on U.S. policy from within”, saying “The lawmakers were “treated like pariahs”!
It was impossible to miss the similarities to what is happening now and what happened to those who challenged this massive infiltration of Communists in the federal government.  This included military personnel whose career advancement ended for speaking up, along with investigative personnel, including the FBI.  When the upper echelon is sympathetic and those around them are able to control the information flow and decision making long term problems are created that can't be easily overcome or ever overcome.
So I have decided that we need an in depth history lesson.  There are names here that you may recognize but don’t really know the details about them, and there will be names unfamiliar to you.  That will all change.

The Silvermaster File

Arguably the most comprehensive, detailed FBI file on attempted Communist and Soviet penetration of the Federal government, based initially on the allegations of former Soviet espionage courier Elizabeth Bentley (code-named "Gregory" by the FBI, by which name this file is also known), beginning in November 1945.  (This list is tip of the iceberg. RK)

The Silvermaster File of the United States' Federal Bureau of Investigation is a 162-volume compendium of some 26,000 pages of documents relating to the Bureau's investigation of Communist penetration of the U.S. federal government during the Cold War.

Beginning in 1945 with the allegations of defecting Soviet courier Elizabeth Bentley (Venona cover names “Myrna”; Umnitsa, “Clever Girl”), the file is also known as the Bentley file or Gregory file ("Gregory" was the FBI code name for Bentley).

The file takes its name from Nathan Gregory Silvermaster (Venona cover names Pel, Pal, "Paul"; "Robert") of the War Production Board, whom Bentley named as head of an underground Communist network known as the Silvermaster Group. Among the people named in the file in connection with this group are President Franklin Roosevelt's Administrative Assistant Lauchlin Currie (Venona cover name "Page") and Assistant Secretary of the Treasury Harry Dexter White (Venona cover names “Lawyer”; “Jurist”; "Richard").

Also named in the file are Victor Perlo (Venona cover name "Raider " ), chief of the Aviation Section of the War Production Board, and contacts of his Perlo group, including Alger Hiss (Venona cover name “Ales”secretary general of the United Nations Charter Conference. (Like several others identified by Bentley, Hiss had been identified independently by another defecting Soviet courier, Whittaker Chambers, to Assistant Secretary of State Adolf Berle in 1939.) Among dozens of others named by Bentley in this file in connection with this network is Duncan Lee (Venona cover name “Koch”), confidential assistant to William Donovan, founder and director of the Office of Strategic Services (OSS), wartime predecessor of the CIA.

Joe McCarthy was right.

This Week's Most Gaggable Moment

https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgDdJXy3OAHLJn_MpiNbbpiEfmKMk5o52EaM_ErYTz_AQiD3zo-sQWOUuwWSVBiV4IJ3FlQV6T-I03A9NYvk-Cw_z_XUAGBaqiTjOITYXOGIJAACqAjGX9XDktXKqx-gc3w6FR9l1Ki6Us/s113/My+Picture+2.jpg By Rich Kozlovich

First let me state this as clearly as I can.  Joe McCarthy was right. He was a drunk, he was a liar, he accused people of being communists without one iota of evidence, General Marshall being one of them.  But, he was right.  The federal government was filled with communists and traitors.  The problem was he just never knew who they were or how many.

But we now know with the release of the VENONA top secret intercepts declassified  in 1995, which McCarthy knew nothing about, and the opening of the Soviet Unions files after the Soviet Union collapsed, there was a lot of them.  However, we still don't know how many or who they all were.  We have a lot of code names, but they've never been identified, only their code names.

The VENONA Intercept project covered a period of 37 years and intercepted somewhere around 3000 messages, most of which have never been decoded, hence the code names were never connected with the many spies in America, including those in the government, media, academia, unions, Hollywood, etc.

Recommneded Reading:

It did however show the Rosenbergs really were guilty of handing atomic secrets over to the Russians, exposed the Cambridge Five espionage ring in the United Kingdom, Soviet espionage of the Manhattan Project in the U.S., and more.   If McCarthy had just stuck to the facts, and things that could be proven, versus unfounded accusations he might have actually accomplished something, but he used his committee to attack innocent people who offended him.

His star rose meteorically and when it started dropping he became unbalanced and irrational accusing the Army of being soft on communism, screaming at witnesses, and accused a member of Joseph N. Welch's firm, the attorneys representing the Army, of belonging to a group that was the legal arm of the Communist Party.  Welch was stunned, but this response by him was the straw what broke McCarthy's back:

Until this moment, Senator, I think I never really gauged your cruelty or your recklessness. Have you no sense of decency, sir, at long last?”

McCarthy sat stunned in silence, he was finished and was later condemned by the Senate.  By the way, contrary to Hollywood's version of reality, they were investigated by HUAC, (the House on Un-American Activities Committee) run by the Democrats, not Joe McCarthy's committee.

This brings me to today's gaggable moment.

Nancy Pelosi is claiming President Trump incited an "armed rebellion:" saying it's "the duty of the patriot in an hour of decisive crisis for the American people" to defend the Constitution.  "We know that we face enemies of the Constitution," she said. "We know we experienced the insurrection that violated the sanctity of the people's Capitol and attempted to overturn the duly recorded will of the American people."And we know that the president of the United States incited this insurrection, this armed rebellion against our common country"........

And just like McCarthy, her star is waning.  She fears losing power to the far left in Congress, so like McCarthy, she's become irrational and unbalanced, hypocritically spouts statements that are in fact lies and misrepresentation of the facts in order to still be considered relevant, important, in charge.

And then Pelosi, straight faced, claims "It breaks my heart' to impeach Trump".  Even the Democrats must be gagging over that, and Republicans have rightly defined this whole escapade as "petty, vindictive and gratuitous. Her real views?  "'Nancy Pelosi, for her part, went full-fascist when she declared, less than four months ago: “We can impeach him every day of the week for anything he does.”'

Between praying for the President and breaking her heart for impeaching him, I think we need to ask the same question Joe Welch asked Joe McCarthy:

Madam Speaker, I never really gauged your cruelty or your recklessness.  Have you no sense of decency, madam, at long last?

 Answer: No!

Nancy Pelosi is a Cancer on the body politic. If you doubt that, please review my file, especially my January 7, 2019 piece, Pelosi in Review: The Gift That Keeps on Giving.

Will the Senate Censure Crazy Mazie Hirono?

Hawaii’s Joe McCarthy loses it.

By Jeffrey Lord

In 1954, the United States Senate famously censured its most notorious member — Wisconsin Republican Joe McCarthy.

McCarthy had been on the trail of Communists in government — and there were, indeed, some of those — but had finally overstepped his bounds. Angry at McCarthy’s conduct — which included increasingly wild allegations against Senate colleagues and the U.S. Army — Ohio Republican Congressman George Bender said of McCarthy.....To Read More.....'

My Take - The one thing that's left out of this article is McCarthy was right in his overall argument that the federal government had become badly infested with communists, socialists and fellow travelers.  McCarthy was a troubled man, and he said, did things and made accusations that undermined his efforts, but in the overall picture -  in the thrust of his investigation - he was right, and we know that to be true because of the release of the VENONA intercepts.

I don't know if this "lad" was part of that cabal of traitors or not, and if he wasn't it was disgraceful of McCarthy and Roy Cohn, who was fairly disgusting himself, to say so.  But in the overall picture - he was right, the federal government under the FDR administration was filled with traitors, and it's clear now with the release of the VENONA intercepts and release of so much of the Soviet Union's archives, FDR had to know about it and allowed it, making him the traitor.

All of which since both Truman and Eisenhower had access to this intelligence, so they had to know it was true, and yet they both came out attacking McCarthy's claims.

In this case, Mazie is just an idiot, but the Democrats will never censure anyone who does anything disreputable, just so long as it supports their disreputable narrative about Trump, Christians, whites, anti-abortionists, gun advocates, straights, the rich, conservatives or Republicans.

Here is a list of Americans in the Venona papers, and remember, this is only a partial list becuase so many of the intercepts weren't translated.  You will notice the Office of Strategic Services (OSS), the forerunner of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) , was infested with Soviet agents during WWII and when the OSS became the CIA they migrated into the CIA.

On Joe McCarthy, Washington Post Gets It Embarrassingly Wrong

April 6, 2019 By Jack Cashill

The headline of Jonathan Zimmerman's article in the Washington Post, "How Trump finally turned Republicans against McCarthyism," alerted me to the possibility that Zimmerman has never spoken to a Republican in the wild.

The subhead, "After nearly 70 years, Republicans have stopped defending Joe McCarthy," confirmed my suspicions. Zimmerman insists that the "new consensus" among Republicans is that "McCarthyism was, in fact, a massive, unpardonable assault on freedom, fairness and the rule of law." This is nuts. In reality, McCarthy's status among Republicans is higher now than it has been since his untimely death in 1957.................. The opening of the Soviet vaults after the fall of the Soviet Union in 1991 and the release of the Venona files in 1995 introduced reams of information that was not available in 1982.  Although Reeves is sticking to his guns, his is no longer the definitive take on McCarthy, at least not on the right..........To Read More.....

A Brief History of the Fake News Media

By David Solway January 31, 2018

For far too long, I was convinced that the media were, on the whole, reliable purveyors of the news. For nearly three years I freelanced happily at the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation in Music and Public Affairs, never suspecting that the Mothercorp was a hive of Liberal propaganda and an artesian fount of scandalously disingenuous broadcasting. It took 9/11 and the generally extenuating media reports over time, faulting the U.S. and exempting Islam, to shake up my thinking and turn me into a sceptical fact-finder.

The media are especially adept at creating villains out of whole cloth for public consumption to advance a particular and often dubious purpose. How else explain the transformation of significant political figures into synonyms for perfidy and opprobrium. I’m thinking in particular of Joe McCarthy, Barry Goldwater and Enoch Powell, all of whom considered themselves patriots and enunciated unpopular or anti-establishment truths, costing them their reputations both in their lifetimes and for posterity.

As Diana West writes of McCarthy, “after more than 60 years of ‘McCarthyism’—the perpetual slander of Joseph McCarthy as a ‘witch-hunter,’ as opposed to an honest accounting of this fearless investigator of deep and widespread infiltration of the US government by Stalin's secret agents…Americans have been conditioned to…hate, loathe and revile McCarthy...The slander of ‘McCarthyism,’…has had the dire effect of bludgeoning our abilities to detect or even acknowledge the existence of any constitutional enemies, especially ‘domestic.’ ”

Favorable commentators will admit that McCarthy may have been guilty of exaggerations and errors, but as the Venona transcripts have verified, he was right overall……….To Read More….

Democrats’ New McCarthyism – Accusing Trump of Russia Ties without Any Evidence

By Onan Coca March 8, 2017

There are transcripts that provide very helpful, very critical insights into whether or not Russian intelligence and senior Russian political leaders, including Vladimir Putin were cooperating, with colluding with the Trump campaign at the highest levels to influence the outcome of our election. — Senator Chris Coon

This past week Senator Chris Coons (D-DE) uttered those words while appearing on MSNBC with Andrea Mitchell. Mitchell followed up by pressing Coons for proof of his accusations, to which Coons replied that he had none.

Nevertheless, Mitchell didn’t proceed to excoriate the Senator for hurling such wild and unsubstantiated claims but simply let the moment pass and Coons’ commentary be left hanging in the media nether.

Thankfully, Chris Wallace at Fox News is not nearly as gutless, and he took the Senator to task for his dangerous comments on Fox News SUNDAY.......To Read More....

My TakeTwo things. First, Chris Wallace did his job the way it should be done, which shows even a blind monkey can find a coconut.  Secondly, I hate it when they use the McCarthy metaphor.  McCarthy was right, and even then there was evidence communists had taken over key positions in FDR's government and effected policy that was beneficial to Stalin.  All shown to be true in 1995 when the Venona Intercepts were released.  Information both Truman and Eisenhower had to know when they were in the White House - both of whom condemned McCarthy.  At least the author called McCarthy an "erstwhile warrior against communism", so he must have read a real history book or two.  MeCarthy had lots of issues, but being wrong in this case wasn't one of them.

Tinseltown Turns Back the Clock with Trumbo Tribute

The eponymous protagonist of Trumbo, a new drama starring Bryan Cranston in the title role, comes billed as a blacklisted Hollywood screenwriter and a hero of sorts. Moviegoers may be surprised to learn that Dalton Trumbo was much more than that.......  Trumbo joined the Communist Party USA during the Hitler-Stalin Pact of 1939-1941, when many other Soviet sympathizers left the Party in disgust, never to return.......After World War II, Stalin mounted a surge to co-opt the studios through labor strikes and jurisdictional disputes. Trumbo scripted speeches for stars such as Katharine Hepburn who aligned with the Party-backed Conference of Studio Unions. After some initial victories, the Party encountered strong opposition........The reason Trumbo and other Stalinists defied the committee, as John Huston learned some years later, was that they had already testified to a California committee that they were not Communists. To admit that now would have been troublesome.  “When I believed them to have engaged to defend the individual,” Huston wrote to a colleague on August 23, 1952, “they were really looking after their own skins.”........The California dream factories aren’t into that kind of story. With Trumbo the industry turns back the clock to the good old days of pure fantasy.....To Read More....

My Take - It's commonly believed these people were unjustly persecuted by Joe McCarthy, but the House Committee on Un-American Activities was a Democratic institution and they went after the Hollywood crowd with a vengeance. Was that unjustified? The article says,

"Trumbo joined the Communist Party USA during the Hitler-Stalin Pact of 1939-1941, when many other Soviet sympathizers left the Party in disgust, never to return"

But those who left saw the Communist Party USA for what it was. Nothing more than a tool of Joe Stalin. And those who remained knew that to be true, and those who stayed were from that point on agents of Stalin against the United States. Those who testified against them knew it and those who refused to testify knew it also the Party was nothing more than a subversive spy organization, including the formation of secret cells, all unknown to the other members. This failure to testify made them knowing enablers of subversive Stalinist agents in the U.S. That's history - everything else about this story is full of lies of commission, lies of omission, logical fallacies and "pure fantasy" to support the left wing activities of communists still active in Hollywood now, including people like Sean Penn.

I recommend those who really want to know the true story of the communist/Stalinist infestation of Hollywood/entertainment, the unions, the newspapers, the universities and most importantly – FDR’s government – please read Diana West’s American Betrayal.

I’ve been following this story for decades and as more and more information becomes available, especially after the fall of the Soviet Union when archives of the era became available – it has to be realized - Joe McCarthy was right. His numbers may have been off, and he clearly had problems, but those are separate issues. He was right. The government, including the State department and even what became the CIA had been infested with traitors. And I’ve come to the unpleasant conclusion FDR was among them, right along with Trumbo.

History points in no other direction.
