Return to 2008, when candidate Barack Obama had served only about three years in the U.S. Senate, his sum total of foreign policy experience. And he was running against the overseas old-hand, decorated veteran, and national icon John McCain—a bipartisan favorite in Washington, D.C.
During the campaign, unfounded rumors had swirled about the rookie Obama that he might ease sanctions on Iran, distance the United States from Israel, and alienate the moderate Arab regimes, such as the Gulf monarchies and Egypt.
Stories also abounded that the Los Angeles Times had suppressed the release of a supposedly explosive “Khalidi tape,” in which Obama purportedly thanked the radical Rashid Khalidi for schooling him on the Middle East and correcting his earlier biases and blind spots, while praising the Palestinian activist for his support for armed resistance against Israel............To Read More...
My Take - We must remember the left only applies morality against their foes, since they have no morality that stands the test of time, except to do anything that will garner them the power to control all our lives.
Here are some comments from some of my correspondents from one of my e-mail lists:
1. Another excellent article by VD Hanson! Thanks for sending it along to us. The real irony is that so many of the "hypothetical" things about Obama in the article are quite true - there's far more evidence which would have warranted a special counsel against Obama than there even remotely is with Trump. Even so, it would have been a gross perversion of our justice system and key law enforcement agencies to launch an investigation of Obama with surveillance/wiretapping and so on, on the hypothetical grounds given. Yet here we are and with much of the left still cheering it on, while totally ignoring all of this about Obama AND all of the slam dunk felonies against Hillary, where all of the evidence against her is proven and even admitted.
2. That is exactly Hanson's point - that this mess never would have happened if the roles were reversed. The Left sees nothing except what the prism of grievance identity politics distorts. The Supreme Court's rejection of the 2000 Florida Hanging Chad Election Reversal Appeal stung the Left to its core. Instead of learning that they should play by the rules (a proposition rejected because the rules were written by old white men), the Left decided that it must win by Any Means Necessary.
Lose AGAIN in the Electoral College? No way! They tried to subvert the electors. When that didn't work? They tried to appeal to the 25th Amendment, cuz Trump's Tweets are crazy! Those were the lazy ideologues' way out. When that didn't work, they rolled up their sleeves and used the JD, CIA, FBI, a Special Prosecutor, and fake FISA warrants to bring Trump down. These moves are far more formidable and still in play.
But all come from the same poisoned spring....
