Begging for Unity: Chuck Schumer Fears GOP Will Follow His Lead

The soon-to-be minority leader wants fair treatment from the new Senate majority – but what is fair?

By | Nov 17, 2024 @ Liberty Nation News, Tags: Articles, Opinion, Politics

Republicans swept the 2024 election, winning a trifecta in the halls of power the left simply didn’t see coming. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) certainly didn’t see it coming. He predicted back in August that Democrats would keep the Senate majority – and now he’s begging for bipartisanship. The New York lawmaker was ready for war when he thought his party might nab the trifecta, but now he’s suing for peace. What goes around comes around, what’s good for the goose is good for the gander, you reap what you sow, or something about a pot calling a kettle black – whatever witty expression you choose, the world Schumer now faces as soon-to-be minority leader is one of his own making.

Chuck Schumer and the Plea for Unity

“To my Republican colleagues, I offer a word of caution in good faith,” Schumer said on the Senate floor after the blue trifecta he predicted turned out red instead. “Take care not to misread the will of the people, and do not abandon the need for bipartisanship. After winning an election, the temptation may be to go to the extreme. We’ve seen this happen over the decades, and it has consistently backfired on the party in power.”

Schumer certainly knows a thing or two about letting that power go to one’s head and “going to the extreme” – but more on that in a bit.

“So instead of going to the extremes, I remind my colleagues that this body is most effective when it’s bipartisan,” he continued. “If we want the next four years in the Senate to be as productive as the last four, the only way that will happen is through bipartisan cooperation.”

The senator seems to forget, however, just how partisan his legislative body has been since Democrats took the majority. Indeed, if it weren’t for former Democrats Joe Manchin of West Virginia and Kyrsten Sinema of Arizona, the legislative landscape would look a lot different.

Foolin’ With the Filibuster

As Liberty Nation News reported back in August, Schumer sang a very different song when he thought Democrats might pull a trifecta of their own, sans Manchin and Sinema:

“The New York Democrat has held his seat for the last quarter century, and throughout that tenure, he has waffled back and forth on whether to protect or destroy this particular upper-chamber tradition – seemingly based entirely on which side of the majority he happens to be at the time. Well, Democrats currently hold a slim 51-vote majority, and Schumer made it clear this week that if Kamala Harris wins in November, Democrats maintain the Senate lead, and if they win even a razor-thin majority in the House, the filibuster is as good as dead.”

At that time, Schumer told Politico he was planning to end the 60-vote rule for legislation to pass two voting rights bills. He also toyed with the idea of codifying abortion access into federal law and even expanding the Supreme Court from nine justices to 13.

In fact, he tried to kill it in 2022, and the only reason he failed is that then-Democrats Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema stood firm on protecting the filibuster. Once those two perpetual thorns in his side left the party and announced they wouldn’t run for re-election, Sen. Schumer figured the filibuster was as good as dead in the 119th Congress. “We got it up to 48, but, of course, Sinema and Manchin voted no; that’s why we couldn’t change the rules. Well, they’re both gone,” he explained.

Democrats: Define “Unity”

The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines “unite” as “to put or come together to form a single unit,” or “to cause to cling together.” Unity is defined as the “quality or state of not being multiple” or “a condition of harmony.” If you find yourself wondering why such a simple word needs to be explicitly defined here, it’s because Democratic Party elites – from Chuck Schumer to Joe Biden – seem confused about the topic. Both call for “unity” whenever it seems Republicans may have some power over them, yet then they turn around and try to steamroll right over any GOP resistance, all the while hurling insults at the politicians across the aisle and any Americans who support them.

Trump supporters are “garbage,” according to the sitting president, remember? Digging just a bit deeper into the memory hole, one might recall a time when congressional Democrats promised bipartisanship and unity only to betray their Republican colleagues once they got their way. As LNN Senior Political Analyst Tim Donner wrote back in 2021 after the two-part “infrastructure” reconciliation debacle:

“After weeks of back-and-forth wrangling involving both parties, conflicting House and Senate priorities, and on-again, off-again agreements, the two parties have begrudgingly signaled their willingness to advance a roughly $1 trillion plan for actual infrastructure, which is aging or substandard – roads, bridges, rail, power grid, broadband internet – but they’ll only get it if they agree to roll over for another bill more than three times the size – somewhere beyond $3 trillion – for what it has amusingly termed ‘human infrastructure.’

“Much as there are lies, damn lies, and statistics, there are also good deals, bad deals, and outright blackmail. When a rare, truly bipartisan effort for a popular cause is sandbagged by a demand more closely resembling a ransom, an already deeply discredited institution edges dangerously close to the worst democracy has to offer – majority rule by brute force.”

To shamelessly steal a quote from Inigo Montoya, Mandy Patinkin’s character from the film The Princess Bride, “You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.”

Good Luck Chuck

Luckily for Schumer, Senate Democrats, and leftists nationwide, Republicans do plan to play nice – at least when it comes to the MAGA legislative agenda. Senate confirmation hearings will likely be put to the same majority bulldozer in the next Congress as they were in the current and previous ones now that there’s no filibuster on presidential appointments – even for the Supreme Court. But soon-to-be Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) has vowed to protect the filibuster, no matter how much Democrats resort to the tactic to create a legislative logjam.

The best summary of the New Yorker’s plea comes from Byron York, chief political correspondent for the Washington Examiner: “Please don’t do to us what we were going to do to you.” Despite Schumer’s total disregard for unity and willingness to pull the rug out from under his opponents whenever he held the upper hand, Republicans simply will not play the same game. So, at least regarding the filibuster, what goes around does not come back around. What’s good for the goose isn’t good for the gander after all, and the pot calling the kettle black doesn’t apply.

Can't We All Just Get Along? NO!

By Rich Kozlovich

So, the Biden campaign has been a mess right along, and truth be told, so too was it in the 2020, and the reason why was Joe Biden's brain was mush then, and it's mushier now.

"Joe was told he was special, a true leader of men, when he was a clown. He’s old, mentally declining, and incapable of doing the job, becoming gassed for the smallest of campaign trips. He was in Delaware after his short visit to Michigan—are you serious? The entire calendar should be filled with campaign events in battleground states—it’s not. And while there are some Hill Democrats that are vocal in their support, it’s those who are whispering that paint a damning picture of Joe’s standing within his party" (via Puck News)

The only thing Democrats ever had is unwarranted hate filled attacks on Trump, his supporters, conservatives, Christians, traditional Jews, traditional values, Catholics, Israel, whites, and parents.    It's been a Democrat Jihad against America, Trump was just in the way, so destroying the rule of law was their corrupt plan to destroy Trump, and Americans who believe in the traditional values that made America great.

But now there's been an attempt to assassinate Trump, so now they're on a "unity" crusade.  Imagine that!  And how's that working out?

Democrat Jihad Against Trump

Jack Cashill noted: There is an old joke that the Irish tell on themselves. It goes, “Did you hear about the Irishman with Alzheimers: he forgot everything but the grudges.” ...."In the case of President Joe Biden, as his dementia worsens, he will forget everything but the lies............No major candidate has ever begun a presidential campaign with a more divisive and slanderous opening gambit than did Biden......

Who was it that said, "It's time to put Trump in the bull's-eye."  ....."We’re done talking about the debate. It’s time to put Trump in the bull’s-eye. We can’t go another day, another day, without explaining what he’s doing, and we have to go after him.”....."Five days later, someone apparently took Biden up on his word and tried to assassinate Donald Trump at a campaign rally north of Pittsburgh."

Biden does the usual verbal clabber saying he hasn't engaged in inciting violence, he's just telling the world Trump is a ‘threat to democracy’.  Well, the evolution of Democrat Jihad against Donald Trump "occurred predictably, from less bloody to more bloody methods".............  "Many hoped Biden would finally apologize for years of lies that Trump is a modern-day Hitler and a threat to democracy.  Biden could announce the end of Trump’s political persecution.  Instead, there was another embarrassing speech by an ersatz president who tried to cling to power with his quivering hands."

So, who's fault is all this leftist violence going on in America?  Just ask them, it's not their fault, it's Trump's fault.  While he's the victim of violence, he should have denounced violence.  Well the fact is conservatives, including Trump, have been denouncing the lefts tolerance of promoting of crime and violence that now permeates America major cities for years, and were called racists, xenophobes, and worse.

This call for unity is nothing more than a public relation ploy by the Democrats.  The Assassination Attempt Changes Nothing!  They recognize the damage this attempt on Trump's life has done to their greedy hold on power.  But they can never back down because they have nothing to offer but corruption, destruction of the rule of law, deep state tyranny, bad economics, bad immigration, and cultural destruction as their platform.  That leaves only hate, so they can't back down.

That's the Democrat version of unity!

Reaction to Vice Presidential Pick

Have no delusions, Trump isn't a McCain, or a Mitt Romney, he clearly understands there can be no unity between he and the entire  panoply of insane leftists, and demonstrated it with a Vice Presidential pick that absolutely outrages the left in it's entirety, and I include the RINO's like Mitt Romney, who loathes Vance, along with Liz Cheney......"Oh, my…unity never looked so good."

There are many here in Ohio who really disliked Vance for his Trump Derangement Syndrome statements, and even with this Road to Damascus epiphany, doubts still exists, so he addressed his past criticism of Trump saying:

“You texted a friend that Trump is a cynical a-hole like Nixon who wouldn’t bet that bad and might even prove useful, and that he’s America’s Hitler, you compared him to cultural heroin in The Atlantic monthly,”....“I don’t hide from that,”..... “I was certainly skeptical of Donald Trump in 2016. But President Trump was a great president, and he changed my mind. I think he changed the minds of a lot of Americans because, again, he delivered that peace and prosperity.” ..... I “bought into the media’s lies and distortions…into this idea that somehow he was going to be so different, a terrible threat to democracy. It was a joke.”

Was this a true Road to Damascus epiphany? Well, we'll see, but the outrage by the lefts indicates it is.  They're brand of unity.

Where The Violence Really Rests

The calls for, and promotion of violence, including political violence rests totally and completely in the camp of Democrats as shown by in this article discussing Victor Davis Hanson's condemnation of the left's sickness for normalizing violence, saying:

World-renowned military historian and professor Dr. Victor Davis Hanson is calling out the “sickness” on the Left as he lambasts leftist rhetoric for normalizing violence against former President Donald Trump in the wake of Saturday’s thwarted assassination attempt. According to Hanson, the Left “constantly makes Trump an exception” to the practice against normalizing the “imagined killing” of presidents or presidential candidates “and thus lower[ing] the bar of violence.”

He cited numerous instances where leftist figures publicly fantasized about violence against Trump, including actor Robert De Niro’s wish to slug him, comedian Kathy Griffin and shock rocker Marilyn Manson’s decapitation imagery, and rapper Snoop Dogg’s depiction of shooting him.  Pointing to Biden’s reported call to “put Trump in a bullseye” last week, he noted that the 81-year-old Democrat president fortunately refrained from his past aggressive remarks about physical confrontations with Trump..........

He further criticized leftist media outlets like the New Republic, which recently depicted Trump as Hitler on its cover, suggesting such portrayals could incite “unhinged” or young individuals to commit acts of violence, believing they would be “applauded” for stopping a mass murderer and dictator.

By the left's unending rant that Trump is a Nazi fascist they promote the idea he deserves to die to the young and dumb filling them with hate, when in reality, it's the left who embrace and emulate Nazis. They're version of unity.

Why Do They Hate Trump?

He's intending to do what he did in his first term, eliminate a lot of bad and/or unnecessary regulations, and with the recent SCOTUS ruling on the Chevron Doctrine that will be much easier, and purge the deep state.  the federal government has no business telling us what cars we should buy, and their unending need to spend and tax the nation to death, literally.

"We have cut 22 regulations for every one new regulation!"

And none of the terrible things Bernie Sanders and his insane cabal predicted would happen...happened.  There are 22 million Americans working for the federal government, all sitting around thinking up new ways to control Americans.  They need purged.  The left detests that.

Andrea Widburg published this insightful piece, Donald Trump: The once and future president, comparing him with Winston Churchill saying:

Most importantly, Churchill was an indispensable man who guided Britain through the darkest days of WWII. During his first term, Trump tried to restore America’s core values—the Constitution, the Rule of Law, sovereign borders, an economy that benefits everyday Americans, small government, etc.—only to find himself stymied at every turn by an establishment that recognized how he threatened their power base and their fundamentally Marxist plans for America. This time, he’ll be loaded for bear, as evidenced by his choice of JD Vance, a fighter, for his Vice President.............

We’re no longer a new nation, and Trump isn’t known for his humility. However, his vision, his courage, his pugnacious nature, his ability not to let his goals overwhelm his short-term strategic plans and tactics, and his political savvy, which was burnished in the crucible of the last eight years, promise that he can return our nation to its constitutional roots and free the American people from the tyranny of Big Government and Woke culture.

If Trump dismantles the Deep State, fires and/or prosecutes those in leadership roles who've committed crimes, their power is gone, and they will do anything to prevent that, including assassinate Trump.  They're overriding emotion isn't just hate, it's fear driven hate.  That's their version of unity.

The Unity Charade

For my regular readers it's known I owned a pest control company,  and for many years I served actively on four of our state association trade associations.  I was also privileged to be a part of our state trade association's Governmental Affairs Committee.  There were five permanent members who didn't always agree on tactics, what we always agreed on were our goals.  Culture is king, and our culture was harmonious because our values were harmonious, as a result we accomplished a great deal of good for our industry.

Now that there's been an attempt to assassinate Trump the Democrats are on a "unity" crusade.  Imagine that!  And how's that working out?  It will fail, miserably, as it's nothing more than a lying PR ploy to cover their hate.

Democrat demands for 'unity' bound for failure, "There can be no unity with the people and institutions who have spent years whipping the left into a violent frenzy over Trump. This goes for Democrats and the corporate media alike,".

’Unity’ Over: Biden to Resume Framing Donald Trump as ‘Threat to Democracy’ - President Joe Biden will reportedly continue to frame former President Donald Trump as a threat to democracy following the assassination attempt that nearly killed the former president. The Biden campaign paused its attacks against Trump after the assassination attempt on Saturday, but those attacks are set to resume in Nevada on Tuesday, contradicting Biden’s calls for unity.........

Biden's lost chance at unity July 18, 2024 by Alison Tempestilli In the last few days, the biggest opportunity for Biden to finally come close to hitting his unity goal has come and gone...

I think the best article I've seen dealing with this was American Thinker writer, Jack Hellner, who I think is one of the best writers out there, in his article After our president nearly took a bullet to the head, the Democrats want cooler heads to prevail, outlining in 34 bullet points just how ludicrous that is, which I'm paraphrasing here.  To see the entire piece follow the link.

Stop ignoring the Constitution when appointing special prosecutors, stop ignoring immigration laws, and sanctuary cities and states are in violation of federal law and need to be prosecuted. Stop claiming the President has the power to eliminate student loans, and that Roe v Wade was a Constitutional right.

Stop trying to destroy the Supreme Court, explain tax cuts helped everyone and brought in more revenue to the government, and insisting on voters getting a voter ID isn't racism.  January sixty wasn't an insurrection.  Accept these covid pandemic laws violated the Constitution, and stop silencing and publishing those who said so and refused to be intimidated.  Stop pandering to teacher's unions, who are destroy our children's future, and stop all this "white privilege" nonsense.

End the "all things are racist" insanity, abortion is the murder of the unborn innocent, there really are only two genders. Men can't get pregnant, and have no place in women's locker rooms or competing with actual women.   Stop pandering to criminals refusing to prosecute them and finding ways to make their criminal activity normal.  Energy independence is essential, and Biden didn't inherent a recession he created one, and Biden's, and the Democrat's foreign policies are a disaster.  Purge the deep state and punish those 51 liars who claimed Hunter Biden's laptop was a Russian conspiracy.

Those are the facts, and if we want unity, those need to be agreed to.  There can be no harmony where there are no shared values.   The mayor of Chicago want to remove George Washington statue from city hall.  I guess that is his solution to all the violent crime and murder in Chicago.  The once greatest military the world has ever known has become politicized, corrupted, and inadequate under Biden and the DOD and the military hierarchy.

The Stakes Are Higher Than Ever: Choosing Trump for America’s Future - The guy who pumped his fist into the air after getting shot in the ear—surviving a bullet meant for his brain—is definitely the one you want answering tough phone calls about international relations.......

Culture is king, and if our culture isn't harmonious, it's because our values aren't harmonious.  If someone hates you and says they want you dead, you should believe them. The left is insane, ergo, there can be no unity with the left.

Harmony Requires Definition

By Rich Kozlovich

Definition leads to clarity, clarity leads to understanding, understanding leads to good decision making. Good decision making leads to harmony, and that's why the nation and the Republicans lack harmony.  The failure to properly define the reality going on around them that America is divided into two camps. Those who see America in danger, and work to save it, and those who are putting American in danger, and wish to destroy it.  Those who are endangering America infest both parties.  And as I watch what they say and do, I wonder at their sanity as the consequences of their machinations are obvious to the most casual observer.  Economic ruin and violence.

I've been writing a running a series of commentaries about the 2024 election, and the Gong Show known as the GOP Presidential debates, and it's not been pretty.  These "debates" bore the nation because they're dealing with people who have no business being where they are, doing what they're doing, and are in fact, are clueless losers.

However, perhaps if they actually dealt with real issues maybe it would be different.  Such as this important "elephant in the room" issue that seems to be invisible to all the candidates, the moderators, and the media.   Why did they think banks all over the country are going belly up, a lot more are on the verge, and what needs to be done about it?  I doubt the answers would have been enlightening.

Then again, maybe it's better for them to bicker about Tik Tok, curtains and why Trump would be bad for democracy instead of attacking Biden and the Democrats. That way we got a better insight as to who and what they are, and that’s not been a pretty sight.

There will be no uniting the Republican party as it's currently configured. The Republican's answer to Obama, was John McCain and Mitt Romney. Now.... I just have to ask you ...... why would anyone think they should be called the Stupid Party?

The nation is totally divided between the left, which clearly and openly wants to destroy the American identity, the American culture, the America economy, and in order to impose a tyrannical socialist government on the nation, they must destroy the Constitution. The right knows that as sure as day follows night, and will not stand for it. There can be no compromise as there are no shared values, only conflicting goals and aspirations, i.e., good versus evil.

The answer can only be total victory over the left, and the same is true for the Republican party. Total victory over the RINO's is the only solution to a united Republican party, along with another Tom Delay (The Hammer) as Majority Whip to whip the invertebrate Republicans into line.

Nikki Haley is toast for national politics after this, at least as a Republican, however, I keep asking, where exactly do all these never Trumpers think they're going to go? The Democrats may cater to them for propaganda purposes, but they will never have a seat at that table, and they're now traitors to the Republican base.   I'll tell you what, we’ll come back to that.

As for DeSantis, the truth be told, I don't understand DeSantis at all. While I liked what he'd done and stood for in Florida (although there are those who have serious allegations over some issues) I just can’t understand his thinking.

While I initially thought Trump was making a mistake with his petty attacks against DeSantis, none of that changed the fact Trump was going to be the nominee, because let’s face it. That’s Trump…in spades…so no one really cared.

DeSantis is a smart guy. He had to have understood that. If he was running to negotiate to drop out for a Sec. of State appointment, I would think that could better happen if he openly supported Trump, that, or any other offer, is clearly never going to be on the table.

Was he thinking he was laying ground work for 2028? Then supporting Trump was a far better option. Now, because of his lack of wisdom and insight, I now think his national political aspirations are as dead as John Kasich's. He's just not a weird as Kasich. But being less weird than Kasich isn't all that hard, I've met him.

With all that's gone on the base is just a little bit outraged at him. Nikki Haley is even beating him in some polls. The question that needs asked and answered? Who was DeSantis listening to when he made his decision to run? I think that would be telling.

So, Is there a "moderate" party in the making uniting the Mitt Romney Republicans with the Joe Manchin Democrats? I think there's going to be an effort in that direction, a very short effort, and while if it starts, it will make nice press, but their numbers are too small, there will be insufficient funding, and the only real uniting factor they have is they hate Trump.

That's not a glue that can create, or bind a third party together for a long hard, expensive road to national prominence. They have no shared vision, solutions, or direction. So that’s toast even before it starts, if it even starts.  Furthermore, since they have no shared values, and will all view each other as untrustworthy traitors to their parities .....who will be their leader?

I fear where all this is heading. Those who've written books about historical cycles all agree we're at the end of a cycle, and end of cycle scenarios all show serious issues with economics and violence. We're seeing the economic disaster in the making, and if the economy collapses can violence be avoided? I don't think so. I’m not optimistic. Hopeful, but not optimistic.

Let the War for Unity Begin

by | Apr 15, 2021 |

The United States of America has become a misnomer. Our nation is anything but united. In fact, I cannot recall a time in American history when we have been more divided than now. Perhaps the Civil War of 1861-1865 comes closest, but the gravity of our current civil divide dwarfs the former in comparison. We live in a crucial time of decision whereby good and evil are in mortal conflict, and it feels like evil is winning big time.

What was once considered sacred on American soil, the belief that a holy and righteous God set forth a standard for us to live by in the words of the Bible, is now subject to mockery and ridicule at every turn in the street. We have become a people with no standard. That which was noble and honorable is called evil, and evil is now highly esteemed by those who could more easily quote from the Manifesto of the Communist Party than recite any of the Ten Commandments. We have strayed far from the beliefs of this nation’s founding fathers; we have failed to heed their warnings. And we are now paying the price.

Who recalls that America’s first higher education institutions, such as Harvard, Yale, and Princeton had as their primary academic resource the Holy Bible? Was this for lack of insight? Or could it have been by design? The wisest man ever created by God, King Solomon, declared, “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge” (Proverbs 1:7), and “The knowledge of the Holy One is understanding” (Proverbs 9:10). The teachings of the Bible are prerequisites to wisdom and understanding.

We have long forgotten that the Bible was the primary source of inspiration for those who penned the greatest manmade documents of all time: the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, and the Bill of Rights...............To Read More....

Biden's first week in office was utterly destructive for America

January 29, 2021 By Kenneth Eliasberg

After promising to unite us in his inaugural address, Biden almost immediately set about to do more to divide us than any president in American history.  Setting aside for the moment the plethora of executive orders that he issued in his first week (over 30), the purpose of which was to wipe out as many of Trump's accomplishments as he could (clearly not a unifying undertaking), let's just look as what he didn't do to further the cause of unity.

Impeachment.  If Biden was possessed of an ounce of leadership, let alone statesmanship, the first thing he should have done was call off the impeachment dogs.  The effort to impeach Donald Trump, who has already left office (and who has clearly committed no impeachable offense), is one of the most divisive efforts that now confronts our deeply troubled and divided Republic.  It is a brainless act of vindictiveness, possessed of not a shred of constitutional support.  By using his authority as president, he certainly could have inveighed against Chuck Schumer (forget about Nancy Pelosi — she's hopeless) to kill this measure as soon as it arrived in the Senate.  Needless to say, he chose not to do so.

Cancel Culture.  How do you unite your party with the opposition when you are supporting current efforts to silence that opposition?  We have never witnessed this sort of assault on free speech — the Dems just don't want conservatives to have a voice.  What are they afraid of?  If you had winning argument, wouldn't you want to expose the

inadequacy of your opponent's?  The answer is clear: they have no sound argument, and what they are for — socialism — finds no support with the American public...........To Read More...
