While Comrade Kamala is bringing us joy, the MarketWatch August 14 headline says it all: Layoff Anxiety Survey: 7 in 10 Workers Are Bracing for Job Cuts. Dhara Singh’s writes:
The increasing popularity of AI (artificial intelligence) technology has only added to feelings of job insecurity, as 68% of workers believe AI will cause an increase in unemployment.
Other key takeaways from the article:
- 70% of employees are bracing for layoffs in some way. About 40% are saving up for a possible layoff, and 32% said they regularly browse job listings.
- Gen Z workers rate their job security the lowest of any generation, with 57% reporting layoff anxiety, compared to just 16% of baby boomers
- If laid off today, 40% of workers said they would run out of money within one month based on their current spending, 24% said they would run out within two weeks.
- 63% of workers said they would take a pay cut to avoid being laid off, and 37% would accept a demotion to stay employed. Among fully remote workers, 51% would give up working from home to keep their job.
Kamala Harris recently on the Sherri Shepherd Show. That is what the show posted as Harris spoke. During her August interview (with Tim Walz babysitting), Kamala Harris said:
“It is an urgent matter to which we should apply metrics that include holding ourselves to deadlines around time.”
(My Take - Well, now Kamala and I have something in common. Neither of us knows what that means. RK)
