The Russiagate Players Got Rich and Escaped Consequences

Peter Strzok, the man of a thousand sneers, reacted to the release of the Durham report by screenshotting the report’s footnote of his own book and recommending people buy it.

Despite being fired from the FBI, the disgraced former agent got a book deal, “Compromised: Counterintelligence and the Threat of Donald J. Trump” as well as co-hosting a podcast with ‘Mueller, She Wrote’s Allison Gill and scoring an adjunct professorship at Georgetown University.

The Russiagate investigation has been discredited, but the Russiagate grift is alive and well. And none of the participants have any regrets or expect there to be any consequences.

Strzok and fellow agent Lisa Page, with whom he had an affair, are suing for wrongful termination from the FBI, and they’ve been fighting to depose former President Trump.

Their former boss, FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe secured a settlement for his benefits including back pay from the Biden Justice Department. There’s little doubt that Attorney General Merrick Garland will eventually arrange for a settlement as a reward for Strzok and Page.

McCabe, who received a gig as a CNN analyst, went on his own news network to dismiss the Durham report. Even though the report clearly demonstrated that the FBI had violated its own rules in opening the investigation, the former FBI boss bragged that “I stand by the investigative decisions that we made to open the investigation first on the Trump campaign “ and insisted that, “the Russians did, in fact, influence the campaign”.

The disgraced FBI bigwig shows up all the time on CNN to bash Trump and to claim that this time the walls are closing in. Like Strzok, his former boss also has an academic gig as a distinguished visiting professor at George Mason University.

If Strzok works hard enough, maybe Georgetown will make him a “distinguished” academic too.

Lisa Page appears to have taught a class at Yale on Cybersecurity Law and Policy and was hired by NBC News and MSNBC as a legal analyst, but hasn’t been all that visible otherwise.

Bruce Ohr, a DOJ official whose wife, Nellie Ohr, worked for Fusion GPS, left a day before he was fired. The Durham report reveals that Nellie Ohr may have produced some of the key Russiagate material even before Steele. Bruce Ohr aggressively pitched his wife’s Fusion GPS smears and promoted an investigation.

Like McCabe, Ohr is also teaching at George Mason University’s Schar School of Policy and Government. His class is on “transnational crime and corruption”. Nellie Ohr works as an intelligence analyst dealing with Russia for Accenture: the world’s largest consulting firm.

Strzok, Page, McCabe and Ohr are “academics” now and the consequences are academic.

The parallel career tracks, media contracts, book deals and academic gigs, are no coincidence. Some of the key FBI figures in Russiagate are being rewarded and financed by the same media and academic government establishment that fed this monster. Strzok, Page and McCabe have lucrative careers doing what they were doing at the FBI: attacking political opponents. They’ll just be doing it outside the anonymity and without the power of their government positions.

But there will be plenty of others to take their place. And for any FBI or DOJ personnel worried about breaking the rules to go after Republicans, the book deals, academic gigs, podcasts and general celebrity for Strzok, McCabe and Page reassure them that they don’t have to worry.

Justice will not be served.

Kevin E. Clinesmith, the former FBI lawyer who pleaded guilty to faking an email used for a FISA warrant, was the only figure in the Durham investigation to face any criminal consequences. He got probation and served no time. His license was only suspended and afterward he can go on practicing law.

Durham’s charges against Michael Sussmann and Igor Danchenko never got past a D.C. jury.

After his acquittal, Sussmann became a partner at Fenwick & West focusing on “privacy and cybersecurity”. Fenwick & West may need some help in that area considering its FTX role.

Sussmann’s new firm has been hit with a class action lawsuit accusing it of covering up Sam Bankman-Fried’s abuses. One lawsuit alleges that, “Fenwick & West created fake entities that Bankman-Fried and FTX employed as fronts through which to launder customer funds and helped FTX to dodge regulatory scrutiny while maintaining a veneer of full compliance.”

Clearly the right place for a former Clinton campaign lawyer.

Igor Danchenko, perhaps not being quite as much of an inside man, hasn’t been as lucky and posted a message, “I am looking for a new role and would appreciate your support. Thank you in advance for any connections, advice, or opportunities you can offer.”

He does not seem to have found any takers.

Charles Dolan Jr, Durham’s likely next target, had the Sussman and Danchenko cases succeeded, no longer seems to be listed with any of the firms he was working for, but apparently still sits on the board of the International Foundation for Electoral Systems and on the advisory board of the University of Massachusetts Amherst.

Christopher Steele, of the infamous eponymous dossier, continues to head up Orbis Business Intelligence and another consultancy calling itself Magic Strand. In his interviews, he has expressed no regret over his actions.

Michael Isikoff, who used Yahoo News to launder the Steele dossier’s smears and whose reports were abused as a basis for FISA warrants, continues in his role as Chief Investigative Correspondent. David Corn, the Washington D.C. bureau chief for Mother Jones, who played a similar role, only briefly got in trouble over reports of rape jokes and inappropriately touching female staffers, before going back to work.

Ben Smith, BuzzFeed News‘ former editor-in-chief, has written pieces titled, “I’m Proud We Published the Trump-Russia Dossier” and “I Would Publish the Steele Dossier Again”. While BuzzFeed News was shut down due to unprofitability, Smith got a job at the New York Times and became the co-founder of a new media site: Semafor.

The New York Times and the Washington Post received Pulitzers for pushing the Russiagate hoax. Last year, the Pulitzers insisted that, “The separate reviews converged in their conclusions: that no passages or headlines, contentions or assertions in any of the winning submissions were discredited by facts that emerged subsequent to the conferral of the prizes.”

The Pulitzers have also refused to revoke the 1932 award of New York Times correspondent Walter Duranty for serving as a Stalinist propagandist and lying about genocide in the Soviet Union. The leftist organization falsely claimed that “there was not clear and convincing evidence of deliberate deception”. If mass murder can’t get the Pultizers to revoke a lefty media liar’s award, the Durham report certainly won’t.

And so they got away with it.

The media made hundreds of millions of dollars pushing Russiagate. Publishers, editors and journalists made names for themselves, won awards and got book contracts for their lies. Lawyers, experts and consultants faced some discomfort, but emerged on the other side. Some FBI and DOJ officials lost their jobs, but are likely to come away with full benefits and are building careers as media analysts and Beltway law school academics. The only Russiagate figure who still doesn’t have a job is Igor Danchenko.

The Durham report’s account of abuses is devastating, but has been brushed aside by the media, former government officials and the rest of the Russiagate network. Unable to get D.C. juries to convict the accused, the investigation stalled and has dissolved into little more than an accounting on the various players but without the connective tissue of the network behind them.

Nobody went to jail, hardly anyone even suffered lasting career consequences and the Washington D.C. network they were part of stepped in to protect and reward the Russiagaters.

The lack of any meaningful consequences means that Russiagate will happen again.

So many of this week’s top news stories involve legal matters in Washington, D.C. that I’m making it the focus of this week’s column. There’s the Roger Stone case, the decision to close the investigation into Andrew McCabe over the Horowitz referral that indicated that he had lied to the FBI about the Clinton email leak, and Congressman Jerry Nadler’s calling Attorney General William Barr as a witness in an upcoming hearing.

(a) The Problem with DC juries

Washington, D.C. has a relatively small population from which jurors must be found for the federal and local grand juries, petit juries, and civil juries...........

(c) Jury Foreperson Tomeka Hart

Following the resignation of the prosecutors who were overruled, Tomeka Hart tweeted support for them and independent journalist Mike Cernovich searched her Twitter feeds, which revealed contrary to her statements at voir dire that she “didn’t pay that close attention” to the probe and that Stone’s connection to President Trump would “absolutely not” color her views of him, she had regularly commented on the collusion probe, demonstrated extreme bias against Trump and his supporters, all of whom she called racists, and immediately upon Stone’s conviction tweeted hearts and fist bumps. (d) Trump Tweets

The press made a to-do of Attorney General Barr’s statement that he wished the President would stop tweeting about ongoing cases. The media might have been born yesterday, but all were not. In contrast to Trump’s tweet, which was made only after conviction and concerned the length of the proposed sentence, here are some reminders of President Barack Obama commenting on criminal cases which were then ongoing:............

(e) McCabe Case Closed The Justice Department announced this week that it was closing the case against Andrew McCabe, former FBI deputy director, for lying. As you can imagine, this created a storm on the right, after the outrageously tough sentence being asked for the hapless Roger Stone, not to speak of the handling of Hillary’s numerous lies under oath. There have been various explanations given for this, including -- you guessed it -- the unlikelihood of a D.C. jury convicting him of a process crime. Is he off the hook entirely? Maybe not -- that case involves only his lying about the Clinton email leak noted in the Horowitz report. There’s still U.S. Attorney John Durham’s criminal investigation of the entire Barack Obama team.......

(f) Barr to Testify

Jerry Nadler, Chair of the House Judiciary Committee, has asked Barr to testify about a number of things, including the decision to propose a reduction in Stone’s sentence, now probably moot as a mistrial is almost a certainty. Barr has agreed and will testify on March 31. In my opinion, Barr and Justice Neil Gorsuch are probably two of the smartest, most able lawyers in the entire vast sea of D.C. lawyers. The IG’s FISA Report: Criminal Prosecutions Coming – There Will Be Scalps!

As the Department of Justice’s Inspector General’s Report on FISA (Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act) is now in the hands of Attorney General William Barr, the U.S. Attorney Jessie Liu has recommended moving forward with criminal charges at this time, because of the magnitude and extent of the evidence, Andrew McCabe, James Comey will face criminal charges over FISA abuses. 

 

Over the weekend House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (CA-R), promised that guilty parties will be held accountable after Justice Department Inspector General Michael Horowitz releases his report on the FBI’s alleged abuse of FISA in the Russia investigation, and in all likelihood that former bureau leaders James Comey and Andrew McCabe will face criminal charges after what he described as an attempted “coup” to take down President Trump.

 

Regarding McCabe, who is accused of lacking candor and leaking sensitive information to the media, McCarthy said, “We will see an indictment.” If you recall, Horowitz told Congress last year “the evidence is substantial” that McCabe “knowingly and intentionally” misled, i.e.; investigators.

McCarthy went on to say; “Here’s the number two with the FBI who was going after individuals, trying to prosecute them, believing that they have lied, when he’s lying himself,” McCarthy explained. “When law enforcement doesn’t uphold the law, when it tries to put their thumb on the scale — that, to me, is where we really have to stand for accountability.”.............To Read More.....

 

My Take - "Let's Make A Deal". That's what we're going to be hearing from all the little guys, and maybe a few big guys. But the little guys aren't going to go down by themselves. In any of these kind of cases there's always a large group of "nobodies" who are necessary to carry out small tasks, that when pieced together, it becomes a RICO situation. 

 

It's my view this is not only treason, it seems to me this is an organized criminal enterprise.  And before this is done, it will reach up to Hillary, Bill, Lynch, Brennan, Clapper, and Obama's sycophants in the White House, and Obama himself.  As the author says:

"You say you want scalps? Brace yourself."

One thing is clear though. If Hillary had won all the pieces were in place from the treasonous Obama administration to impose a socialist regime on America.  Whether it would have been successful or not is another matter.  But that's where Hillary would have taken it.

Andrew McCabe’s Unjust Deserts

I was going to pass by in silent contempt the news that CNN—the network that patrons of airport lounges cordially dislike and that no one else watches—just decided to hire disgraced former FBI honcho Andrew McCabe as a commentator. He’ll fit right in, I thought, with other such mountebanks barking against Donald Trump not only at CNN but also at MSNBC not to mention The New York Times, The Washington Post, and other retirement homes for the anti-Trump fraternity.

But Andrew McCarthy’s column at NRO on Saturday reminded me that the case of McCabe is important. It says something critical not just about one of the most important players in (to cite the subtitle of McCarthy’s new book) “the plot to rig and election and destroy a presidency,” but also about some larger issues, which from one perspective might be said to turn on the task of guaranteeing the peaceful transition of power in a democracy and, from another, on the ambition of our justice system to provide (as the legend chiseled into the pediment of the Supreme Court says) “equal justice under law.”..........To Read More.......

 

The Dossier: Rogue FBI recruited Trump-Russia sources inside the White House?

Senior Republican senators sent a letter Thursday to the Department of Justice disclosing new texts between former FBI official Peter Strzok and his mistress, former FBI attorney Lisa Page, in which the couple appeared to be plotting to recruit secret sources from inside the White House.

The letter, from Senate Appropriations Committee Chairman Charles Grassley and Senate Homeland Security Committee Chairman Ron Johnson, revealed: “We have reviewed certain text messages that may show potential attempts by the FBI to conduct surveillance of President-elect Trump’s transition team.”

The letter continues: “In text messages exchanged between former FBI Special Agent Peter Strzok and former FBI Attorney Lisa Page, the two discussed the possibility of developing ‘potential relationships’ at a November 2016 FBI briefing for presidential transition team staff. Specifically, it appears they discussed sending ‘the CI guy’ to assess an unnamed person(s) ‘demeanor’ but were concerned because it might be unusual for him to attend.”

Journalist Sara Carter  reports that the wife of Vice President Mike Pence’s former chief of staff, who was serving as an FBI analyst under Strzok, was seen as integral to these efforts.

The texts show that Strzok and Page were targeting Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn, who was then incoming national security adviser. Flynn was later removed from his post at the request of VP Pence.

It remains unclear how much direct contact Vice President Pence had with the FBI officials who sought to undermine and depose Flynn. However, as Catherine Herridge at Fox News pointed out, it appears that former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe, using Strzok’s information, did in fact brief Pence prior to his decision to publicly take responsibility for Flynn’s ouster.

Pence has not spoken about the Flynn firing since he claimed that Gen. Flynn “lied” to him about contacts with the Russian government.

Mark Levin: ‘Nothing Like This Has Ever Happened Before in the United States of America – Ever’

On his nationally syndicated radio talk show “The Mark Levin Show” Tuesday, host Mark Levin reminded his audience about his analysis from two years ago concerning a “silent coup” against President Trump, Levin suggesting last evening that “nothing like this has ever happened before in the United States of America – Ever.”

“Fresh Air” has been a staple of National Public Radio since 1985 and that has made host Terry Gross, 68, something of a celebrity. Gross is the author of All I did Was Ask: Conversations with Writers, Actors, Musicians and Artists and many of her interviews have become classics. On the other hand, with guests on the political side, her deft critical skills and background knowledge seem to vanish. Consider the February 19th “Fresh Air” appearance of Andrew McCabe.

The former FBI Deputy Director, Andrew McCabe, was there to promote his new book, The Threat: How the FBI Protects America in the Age of Terror and Trump. It wasn’t clear whether Gross had read the book, but she seemed tuned in to what the “right-wing media” said about it. For example, she cited President Trump and Sean Hannity of Fox News, both of whom used the word “coup.”

McCabe, who was fired from the FBI before he could conveniently retire, responded: “The fact that the president uses a word, or that right-wing media uses a word, or that Sean Hannity uses the same word, simply does not make it true. I mean, we know that many of the words that all three of those folks use are frequently false and, in my own experience, proven to be slanderous and incredibly hurtful. But nevertheless, I will answer it directly: To characterize those comments by Rod Rosenstein as a ‘coup’ is just utterly ridiculous.”...........To Read More.....

Former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe’s 60 Minutes interview, airing in full on CBS tonight, is a disaster for the Deep State. His admission during his interview that he and other top FBI and Justice Department officials seriously considered taking steps including invoking the 25^th Amendment to remove President Trump from office in the spring of 2017 is a blockbuster.  Thanks to his candor,

we can finally use without reservation the “C” word – for an attempted coup d’état –in describing what McCabe and other Deep State players were cooking up in secret two years ago.

Excerpts of McCabe’s damning interview were released by CBS News on Thursday. Almost immediately, a range of experts – including a few Democrats – began using the “C” word.

Thursday evening, Alan Dershowitz, emeritus professor of law at Harvard Law School and a Democrat, appeared on Fox News’s  Tucker Carlson Tonight and said about what McCabe revealed to 60 Minutes, “If true, it is clearly an attempt at a coup d’état.”

My Take - The "C" word?  I would call it the "T" word.  Treason! The thing that really stick out as we've watched this story play out is the audacity of these people.  They actually believed they had the right to overturn the election by any means fair or foul.  Where did that mentality originate?  The Obama White House and the Hillary Cabal.

CBS: Andrew McCabe Says Discussions About Wiretapping Trump, Removing Him Were Serious

Conversations about Rod Rosenstein wearing a wire to secretly tape the president of the United States came up more than once and were serious, former Acting Deputy FBI Director Andrew McCabe told CBS's Scott Pelley.

Bitter, Partisan Liar Writes a Book

Like a con proud of his crime, Andrew McCabe cannot help himself from boasting of his misdeeds.
The disgraced former acting head of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, bereft of his government pension, seeks to make a buck through a tiresome, tell-some book at the expense of the man who pushed for his firing. Therein, the unelected bureaucrat boasts of plotting to overturn the will of the American people.

The text messages between Peter Strzok and Lisa Page, two key members of McCabe’s cabal, indicate that this plot preceded the actual election. “I want to believe the path you threw out for consideration in Andy’s office — that there’s no way he gets elected — but I’m afraid we can’t take that risk,” Strozk wrote Page about a conversation regarding the Republican candidate in McCabe’s office. “It’s like an insurance policy in the unlikely event you die before you’re 40.”

That insurance policy involved the FBI repackaging opposition research from the Clinton campaign, compiled by a longtime agent of a foreign government, as an “intelligence dossier” that ironically charged collusion between a presidential campaign and a foreign entity. It continued with the FBI obtaining Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court warrants, obscuring the fact that the Clinton campaign paid for the information used to secure the warrants, to electronically surveil members of the Trump team in a banana-republic scheme so glaringly illegal that it required a cover-up, whose ends each subsequent investigation served.............

None dare call it a coup. But in each step, the intelligence apparatus called an end-around on democracy. The “insurance policy” involved the government using the apparatus of the state to spy on the opposition party. It attempted to criminalize the legitimate constitutional powers of the president in firing politically appointed underlings who serve at the behest of the chief executive. In an article in The Hill that is today's read of the day, a retired senior FBI executive puts together the evidence already on the record to offer a roadmap of how the politicization of these powerful bureaucracies was accomplished.

Kevin R. Brock, who is identified as "former assistant director of intelligence for the FBI, was an FBI special agent for 24 years and principal deputy director of the National Counterterrorism Center (NCTC)," sees Andrew McCabe as the point man, pulled up through the career bureaucracy of the bureau by his mentor, James Comey, who was, after all, an outsider political appointee in need of a henchman to implement his political machinations. Former FBI lawyer: Plot to record, remove Trump not a joke

Don’t tell former FBI general counsel James Baker that those now-infamous discussions about secretly recording and using the tapes to remove him from office were a joke.  He apparently doesn’t believe it. And he held quite the vantage point — he was on the inside of the bureau’s leadership in May 2017, when the discussions occurred.

 

Baker told Congress last week that his boss — then-acting FBI Director Andrew McCabe was dead serious about the idea of surreptitiously recording the 45th president and using the evidence to make the case that Trump should be removed from office, according to my sources.

 

Baker told lawmakers he wasn’t in the meeting McCabe had with Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein in which the subject came up. But he did have firsthand conversations with McCabe and the FBI lawyer assigned to McCabe, Lisa Page, about the issue.

 

“As far as Baker was concerned, this was a real plan being discussed,” said a source directly familiar with the congressional investigation. “It was no laughing matter for the FBI.”

He was also involved in a conspiracy to bury the Clinton email investigation just as his wife received $675,000 from Clinton pals in her election bid (she lost). Eleven House Republicans have sent a letter to Attorney General Jeff Sessions and FBI Director Christopher Wray officially referring Hillary Clinton, fired FBI Director James Comey, fired Deputy FBI Director Andrew McCabe and former Attorney General Loretta Lynch for criminal investigation.

FBI agents Peter Strzok and Lisa Page, who were caught sending hundreds of anti-Trump text messages during the Clinton investigation, have also been referred for criminal investigation. U.S. Attorney John Huber, who was tapped by Sessions a few weeks ago to investigate the FBI's handling of the Clinton email probe, was copied on the request.

McCabe's Domino Is Only the First to Fall

Oh, what a tangled web the unindicted co-conspirators in the Deep State coup to keep Hillary Clinton out of prison and Donald Trump out of the White House have woven. When you tell the truth, the adage goes, you never have to remember anything. But when you lie, you have to remember the lies you told to cover the earlier lies, and you certainly have to keep your story in line with your other co-conspirators.

That Andrew McCabe, in his response to his firing, failed miserably on this score, implicating former FBI Director James Comey, is the conclusion of George Washington University law professor Jonathan Turley:

In an op-ed run Saturday by The Hill, Turley pointed to a line in McCabe's statement criticizing his termination "that could be viewed as incriminating fired FBI director James Comey, not just in leaking sensitive information but also in lying to Congress."..........They were all in on the fraud. They all knew the truth and hid it from the FISA court. There were “high-ranking people throughout the government” with “a plot” to protect 2016 Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton — and “basically frame” President Donald Trump, former FBI Assistant Director James Kallstrom (shown above) warned Sunday on Fox News’ “Sunday Morning Futures With Maria Bartiromo.”
