Politics, coupled with self interest and power, are now, and have always been, the greatest corrupting forces all free peoples face. Normal people realize the only thing standing between civilization and anarchy are hard men with guns, and that includes the police.
While conservatives are in general big supporters of the police, and think all these defund the police initiatives are blatant insanity, we have to remember - the police departments are quasi-military institutions. They're obliged to obey the people who pay their salaries, including tyrants. Police are just as corruptible as any other group, but with more opportunities. I think the links listed lend balance to this discussion.
