Former Donald Trump lawyer Michael Cohen lied to Congress about a Trump Tower project in Moscow and he's going to jail for it in a few months. So, "we shouldn't be surprised that he lied again" when he showed up to testify on Capitol Hill last week, Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) noted Friday on Fox News.
Democrats have been trying to find evidence against Trump that could be grounds for impeachment. Or at least it sure seems that way. But, as it's looking more and more like special counsel Robert Mueller's report is going to say there's not one shred of evidence to prove the Trump campaign colluded with Russia, "now they've got to do something else," Jordan observed. And that something else is Cohen.......
Jordan noted that there are two people Nadler didn't
send a letter to: Christopher Steele, the former British spy who wrote the unverified and salacious Russia-Trump dossier, and Fusion GPS co-founder Glenn Simpson, who provided it.............

Michael Cohen: Bigger than Planet Earth!
Each of us can think of that someone in history or in the present day who fits the description, “larger than life.”
Think Winston Churchill, John Wayne, JFK, Babe Ruth, Kim …(never mind – you get the point).
This past week in Washington, D.C., that figure was none other than Michael Cohen, the former personal attorney for President Donald Trump, and now a convicted felon who is headed to federal prison. In fact, Mr. Cohen wasn’t just larger than life; he was more important than the Planet Earth itself!
Mr. Cohen testified for three days before different committees of the U.S. House of Representatives, two days of which were behind closed doors, and one day in public. His public appearance before the House Oversight and Reform committee was widely attended by members of Congress of both parties, and had wall-to-wall television news coverage plus hours more of commentary by media talking-heads.
By contrast, just one day prior to the public hearing featuring Cohen, the House Natural Resources Committee held a hearing on climate change. It was attended by exactly two Democrats (the majority Party in the House), a handful of Republicans, and basically no media.
The Republicans, the minority Party, summarily out-voted the two Democrats to end the hearing before it started due to the obvious lack of interest – from themselves, the Democrats who were AWOL, and the media, which ignored it altogether.
Nary a day goes by without alarmist statements of politicians and media figures pretending to be scientists—along with scientists posing as politicians and media figures—about the inexorable gloom and doom of the Planet Earth. Man-made climate change, it’s often claimed, is an “existential threat;” the Earth will be “uninhabitable” in just a few decades hence; we face the “point of no-return” even sooner (or a bit later), and so forth. That’s the mantra from nearly every Democratic elected official and major media and Hollywood figure, and they are sticking to it.
With such a dire emergency, you would think a congressional hearing this past week on the subject of climate change would draw full attendance from members of Congress and wall-to-wall news coverage, at least from the cable networks. It drew neither, and became a non-event as a result.
Now, members of Congress lead frenetic lives. They get pulled in all kinds of directions with committee meetings, constituents, television appearances, speeches, travel junkets, fundraisers, and so on. It’s hard to be everywhere simultaneously. Still, with the point-of-no-return supposedly fast approaching for our planet, you would think the same politicians would at least pretend to care by showing up at a committee hearing on the cause—climate change—and what to do.
Instead, the news channels and D.C. politicians were fixated on Michael Cohen, President Trump’s latest enemy of the moment, who was thought to have the goods on the president and who poured out his dubious self to the House Oversight Committee.
Notwithstanding the glaring contrast of these two House committee hearings on Capitol Hill, there may be a striking similarity: the credibility of Michael Cohen and man-made climate change are suspect, to say the least.
All but the most blindly partisan know Michael Cohen was a charlatan and a convicted perjurer, and had nothing new or substantive to offer. Even the Office of Special Counsel had no need of him for its investigation of President Trump. He’s that useless. Yet, members of Congress pretended he mattered and conducted a show hearing, which for many of them advances their political interests – nothing more.
Could the same be said for climate change? That is, how many politicians beyond Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Bernie Sanders and several other fanatics sincerely believe the Earth will end soon because mankind is destroying it with its capitalistic lifestyle? In fact, evidence suggests insincerity even from Sen. Sanders, given his demand of the 2016 Clinton campaign for carbon-spewing private jet travel.
Politicians are notoriously short-term thinkers, as in the next meeting, the next fundraiser, or the next election. Most don’t worry about long-term issues like “Earth in the Balance” or the $22 trillion national debt because it remains a problem well into the future, if at all.
Might many of the politicians who claim man-made climate change is a long-term threat say so because it serves their near-term political interests, e.g., fundraising, re-election, and accolades from Hollywood actors? The non-attendance and non-attention to this latest hearing on climate change—which became a non-hearing—is a clue that perhaps not a few politicians are actually phoning it in on this issue about which they pretend to care.
Judging by interest of media and our elected officials in D.C. this past week, their priorities were clear: Michael Cohen regurgitating insults was more important than the man-made climate change. He’s not just larger than life. Michael Cohen, for one brief shining moment in America, was larger than Earth itself.

NBC News Reporter Caught Lying about Michael Cohen Testimony on Trump and WikiLeaks
By Patrick Poole February 27, 2019
The testimony Wednesday by former Trump attorney and convicted perjurer Michael Cohen before the House Committee on Oversight and Reform did not produce the smoking guns that Democrats were hoping for, but it did produce a prodigious amount of fake news. Several members of the committee noted beforehand and during the hearing the oddity of Cohen testifying before a congressional committee as he's headed to prison for lying to Congress:.........
But it seems that Cohen wasn't the only liar.
NBC News Capitol Hill correspondent Kasie Hunt was at the hearing and reported on-air about the proceedings. After Cohen's testimony, she made a flatly false assertion about a phone conversation between Trump confidant Roger Stone and WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange in response to a WikiLeaks tweet about Cohen's claims that Trump had foreknowledge of Wikileaks' DNC email drop.........To Read More....
My Take - Quoting

What We Learned from the Michael Cohen Hearing
March 3, 2019 By Jim Daws
Of all the contemptible episodes of political theater Congress has ever produced, Michael Cohen's seven-hour hearingbefore the House Oversight Committee is without precedent. Has there ever been a more seditious, mendacious, and just plain degrading spectacle?
While America's president was overseas conducting a nuclear disarmament summit with a hostile communist dictator, the new Democrat majority in the House used their very first hearing to undermine his credibility on worldwide TV. Given the depraved character of modern Democrats, the hearing's circus-like atmosphere was predictable, but the timing of the event can be taken to mean only that they're more interested in impeaching President Trump than in avoiding a nuclear holocaust. That's a chilling realization............
Chairman Elijah Cummings has changed the name of his committee from House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform to just House Committee on Oversight and Reform.
Cummings and his committee show no intention of limiting themselves to the proper, constitutional role of government oversight. Instead, they are shifting gears to probe every aspect of Trump's business and private life — and that of his family and his associates — in order to impeach him or prevent his re-election. It's amazing they don't realize that disgusting displays like this hearing will have the exact opposite effect. ...............To Read More

A Cheat, a Con Man Testifies Before Congress
Give this man a medallion!
By Dov Fischer March 1, 2019
I guess I heard only part of the sentence as Michael “Cash Cab” Cohen, testifying before a Congressional committee, was describing a “a cheat, a con man.” It seemed for a moment as though he was ’fessin’ up, coming clean, seeking penitence, admitting his sins publicly. But it soon became clear that the cheat and con man was describing someone else, not himself. Alas poor tormented soul!
Between the Democrats holding the House and the Left strangle-holding most of the media, life in America no longer is about news and reality, but is a never-ending game show: “Trump That Trump!”
Every week another guest contestant, usually hawking a new book or lawsuit.
This time the President was negotiating a possible end to the Korean War, a possible denuclearization — and it was happening in Vietnam, which likewise carries so much symbolism and meaning. So it was the perfect time to dust off Michael Cohen for the “Tournament of Champions” and, fittingly for a perjurer, to swear him in...........To Read More.....

Defeat and the Dossier Explain Everything

Donald Trump’s former consiglieri Michael Cohen, along with being charged with tax avoidance and improper business deals, allegedly is guilty also of trying to leverage money and attention by exaggerating his influence with candidate and later President Trump.
In other words, Cohen to spec followed the standard creepy daily fare for Washington and New York wannabe fixers. But did we need Robert Mueller’s 18 months and $40 million to uncover and redirect to federal attorneys what was largely self-evident? Could not the U.S. government long ago, without the prompt of a special counsel, have uncovered that Michael Cohen did not fully pay his taxes—in the manner of an Al Sharpton, Timothy Geithner, and Tom Daschle?...........To Read More.....

Jason Chaffetz: Why is Michael Cohen prosecuted when Hillary Clinton, Eric Holder and Lois Lerner were not?
By Jason Chaffetz | Fox News
Michael Cohen, Donald Trump’s former attorney, struck a plea deal with the DOJ for lying to Congress. But what about all the other egregious cases of misconduct interacting with Congress? Why weren’t those pursued or prosecuted? ............To Read More.....
With a Republican president in place and soon-to-be Democrat-run House, the Department of Justice (DOJ) has conveniently remembered that they have the ability to prosecute people who lie to Congress. This was a power they had inexplicably forgotten about during the 10 years that Democrats were benefiting from witnesses who lied.
No doubt there should be consequences and accountability if you testify to Congress under oath and blatantly lie or violate the law. But the DOJ seems to have different standards based on which party’s political fortunes will be impacted. It is this unequal application of justice that is dividing the country and threatens peace.

Where’s the Beef, Mueller?
The Cohen guilty plea doesn’t get him any closer to collusion.
George Neumayr
November 30, 2018
The Mueller investigation remains a “collusion” probe without any collusion. For all of the media’s heavy breathing about Thursday’s news of a Michael Cohen guilty plea, it doesn’t get Mueller any closer to the stated goal of his investigation.
On CNN, where its programming is an endless game of anti-Trump gotcha, Jeff Zucker’s puppets recited his mandated talking point that Trump’s fixer “may” have “broken” everything, blah, blah, blah.
But the very conjectural character of this feverish chatter indicated the hollowness of the story. If the plea contained any evidence of collusion, the Hillary donors who make up much of Mueller’s staff would surely have leaked it to CNN by now.
One can only laugh at the sheer propagandistic absurdity of CNN’s “timeline” of “possible” Trump-Russian collusion, which naturally still includes the thoroughly debunked claim that Trump’s aides “weakened” the GOP platform to please Putin. It is one of the media’s favorite fables, which was concocted by the Washington Post, with the help of hawkish dingbats and NeverTrumpers. But as the Washington Examiner’s Byron York has shown repeatedly, the platform’s plank on Russia was strengthened, not weakened.............Mueller is the ruling class’s battering ram against Trump, but with each fruitless (impeachment-wise) indictment he reveals that he has got nothing. A determined prosecutor, as the saying goes, can indict a ham sandwich. All Mueller got on Thursday was a lawyer full of baloney, on yet another process crime meaningless to Mueller’s actual mandate...........To Read More.....

From Lavrenti Beria to Lanny Davis
In this police state, Michael Cohen was doomed from the start.
This all comes to mind because of my former classmate at Yale Law School ’70, Lanny Davis, and his client, the deeply unfortunate Michael Cohen.
I’m not going to bore you with details about the life of Michael Cohen. Suffice it to say, he was a lawyer for Donald Trump and he got into extremely serious trouble about various federal laws involving money. The G-men threatened him with mammoth prison terms, which would frighten anyone. (It frightens me just to think about it.) The G-men also (according to the newspapers) took a page right out of Stalin’s playbook and threatened his wife with major prison time, too, just for signing their income tax returns........To Read More....

Now here’s something terrifying that’s swinging into action in a big way: the Deep State with dictatorial, unlimited prosecutorial powers.
The Deep State is the permanent government of high powered bureaucrats. The most dangerous of these are federal and state prosecutors who can turn a man’s life upside down (woman’s, too) and make life not worth living. A prosecutor has powers that can and do send the innocent to the gas chamber, to prison for life, and frighten even the roughest and toughest of the tough. If they have a political axe to grind, they do it without a second thought.

Dershowitz Destroys Left’s Claims that Cohen’s Guilty Pleas Will Lead to Indictment
By Warner Todd Huston August 24, 2018
The left-wing news media is crowing all over the the television and the newspapers that former Trump lawyer Michael Cohen’s guilty plea will lead straight to an indictment of President Donald Trump. But liberal law professor Alan Dershowitz was quick to disabuse the leftist media of their foolish conclusion jumping.
Dershowitz appeared on Special Report with Fox News host Bret Baier and laid out the facts. While noting “it’s complicated,” Dershowitz nonetheless destroyed the ill-informed left’s claims that Trump has been laid bare and is all but convicted by the Cohen guilty plea.
As LifeZette reported, Dershowitz said:.........Dershowitz added that prosecutors really aren’t interested in Cohen. They are in the hunt to destroy Trump. Dershowitz added that prosecutors really aren’t interested in Cohen. They are in the hunt to destroy Trump...........They have already convicted Trump of their imaginary crimes!...........To Read More.....

When the Left Rules, There Are No Rules!
By Paul F. Spears
In my small town, friends in conversation about legal issues may occasionally include a qualifier with their comments. "I'm no Philadelphia lawyer, but...."
I'm no Philadelphia lawyer, either. But what I can't figure out is why righteous Progressives have absolutely no problem with Robert Mueller's raid on Michael Cohen's office, and have no concerns whatsoever about Mueller coercing Cohen to rat out privileged conversations with President Trump.
Our breathless media reports that Cohen claims "Trump told him to break the law". Whatever happened to a client's right to say ANYTHING in confidence to his attorney? It is the attorney's job to counsel and to guide his client in lawful actions. If an attorney commits a crime during representation of his client, the crime should be his alone. It should not matter if an attorney betrays his client's confidential conversations to a prosecutor. The client should still be protected, as those conversations are supposed to inadmissible in court.
So, if Cohen reveals some "scheme" by Trump to "violate campaign finance laws" (or anything else, for that matter), shouldn't Cohen's statements be worthless to Mueller as privileged attorney-client communications? The only result should be that Cohen is disbarred for betraying his client's trust. Period.
And what about the raid on Cohen's office? Is it OK for Special Counsel Storm Troopers to forcibly seize privileged and confidential records to make a case against Trump? What kind of police state tactic is that? What happened to the right to confidential counsel? Most concerning of all: why is it so important to get rid of Trump that we're willing to throw our civil liberties away?
Turning it around hypothetically.
What if the offices of lawyers for Hillary Clinton and John Podesta are ransacked, and all client/lawyer communications seized. The lawyers are threatened with long jail terms because their records revealed their assistance in covering up mishandling of classified materials. Under threat of long jail terms, the lawyers reveal their conversations with Clinton and Podesta. Clinton and Podesta are convicted of national security violations, using their own conversations with their attorneys against them. Progressives fill the streets, screaming "Fascism!"
Or simpler yet, what if a young black teenager is charged with a minor non-violent crime. He is assigned a public defender. In the course of counseling the frightened young man, the public defender learns that he had simply been at the wrong place at the wrong time. The client admits that he was selling small amounts of marijuana to his friends, thinking that would establish his alibi. The public defender calls the D.A.'s office, and betrays his client's confidence. The young man is convicted of dealing drugs and sentenced to a long prison term, even though the original charge is dropped. Progressives fill the streets, screaming "Racism!"
Are either of these scenarios A-OK? Not with me.
And neither is the raid on Michael Cohen and his subsequent betrayal of his client, President Trump, under extreme legal duress from the Special Prosecutor.
As Alan Dershowitz has noted, many politicians spend untold millions on their own campaigns. Mike Bloomberg certainly did as Mayor of NY. The Obama campaign received a $375,000 fine for millions in unreported contributions from foreign nationals. Even if Trump's sordid $130,000 payoff of a porn actress is somehow a "campaign violation", then at most Trump should be fined. Trump can more than credibly argue that his payment was to limit the damage to his wife and family. That isn't much different from Bill Clinton paying Paula Jones $850,000 to buy her silence before his impeachment proceedings.
What has America come to? Where is America going?
