Everyone needs to watch what is happening in Canada to get a preview of what is coming to America if citizens who care about freedom and traditional values do not speak out forcefully and effectively. For Canada is not the democracy the United States is, and so the changes demanded by the extreme left — radical gender ideology, forced unscientific medical treatments, the destruction of our dependable energy sources, extreme press censorship, etc. — can happen in the Great White North far more quickly than in America.
This is largely because Canada lacks the checks and balances of the U.S. system, giving the Prime Minister practically limitless power domestically, the authority that an American president can only dream of.
This is compounded by the fact that current Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has no qualms about welding his power to suppress citizens merely trying to exercise their supposed rights to freedom of expression and assembly. The fact that Trudeau is apparently envious of the absolute power of the Communist Party of China does not inspire confidence among freedom lovers (see second reference below).
To understand why this is happening in Canada and how Trudeau has been able to hang on to power despite his party winning only 32.6% of the popular vote in the last general election requires a knowledge of how Canada’s system of governance, as well as its cultural institutions, differ from the U.S.
To discuss this, Tom is joined by Joseph Ben-Ami, a respected and entertaining Canadian television and radio commentator and public speaker offering insights on culture, politics, and current affairs from a conservative perspective.
A former naval officer, Joseph is the host of The Joseph Ben-Ami Show. He was President of the conservative think-tank Arthur Meighen Institute for Public Affairs from 2008 to 2017. Prior to joining the Meighen Institute, he was Executive Director of the Institute for Canadian Values, and before that, Director of Government Relations and Diplomatic Affairs for the well-known Jewish advocacy group B’nai Brith. He has served on numerous organizational boards, including the advisory board of Jews against Anti-Christian Defamation.
Joseph was a policy aid to Stephen Harper, Canada’s former Conservative Prime Minister, as well as Stockwell Day, Harper’s predecessor as Party Leader. He has served as a consultant speechwriter for several senior executives and political officials. He was National Director of the Brad Trost Leadership Campaign for the Conservative Party of Canada, and most recently, he was Operations Director for Shelly Glover’s campaign to lead Manitoba’s conservative party.
Join Joseph and Tom in this week’s important episode of The Other Side of the Story to learn what is going on in Canada and why it should seriously concern conservatives in the United States.
