Undermining Justice

Progressive politicians’ anti-police statements will hurt most the very groups they claim to defend.

Hannah E. Meyers April 16, 2021

On Sunday, 20-year-old Daunte Wright was killed in a Minneapolis suburb. Following a traffic stop for expired registration, officer Kim Potter shot Wright, apparently intending to tase him, as he fled arrest for an open warrant. (Wright and another man had been charged with first-degree attempted aggravated robbery in December 2019.) Potter has since resigned and been charged with second-degree manslaughter. Coming during the trial of officer Derek Chauvin for the killing of George Floyd, Wright’s death threw fuel on a simmering fire: about 80 people were arrested in the area on Tuesday night for throwing bricks and bottles and inciting riots.

Meantime, progressive politicians have issued nonsensical statements that will further harm the communities now ablaze. Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI), for instance, tweeted on Monday: “Policing in our country is inherently & intentionally racist. Daunte Wright was met with aggression & violence. I am done with those who condone government-funded murder. No more policing, incarceration, and militarization. It can’t be reformed.” Such rhetoric provokes the mobs currently destroying infrastructure and businesses, but the damage goes beyond property. As riots rage, cops grow more discouraged—and less willing to take the risks inherent in proactive policing. The resulting de-policing creates lawlessness that invites further violence and criminality, as experience and a growing body of research confirm.........To Read More.....

My Take - The author makes some excellent observations until he gets to the last paragraph saying:

"Law enforcement should continue on its trajectory of increased accountability and community partnership. Better policing, not less policing, will mean fewer black men dying in police confrontations—and in the violence that too often follows them."

What will cause less black men to die from police shootings is for less black criminal activity, which is way out of proportion per population, and that will start to happen when black culture changes.

When the 70% illegitimacy rate in black America drops dramatically we'll see changes that have nothing to do with police reform.  But that's not going to happen as long as we keep making excuses for inappropriate black cultural behavior with this insane effort to promote Critical Race Theory in public and the federal government paying black women to have babies out of wedlock, often times by multiple men who absent themselves as soon as they can, and impregnate other women who, along with their children, they abandon.

Until then, all the police reform in the world will not stop these killings because the police rarely kill innocent people.  They're shooting and killing thugs and criminals who fight with the police, and they fight with the police because they know they're criminals who deserve to be arrested.

Coronavirus in an Alternate, Rational Universe: What Might Have Been

March 31, 2021 Dr. Michael Hurd

In a rational and free society, the reaction to coronavirus would not have been hysterical or tyrannical. People would have been left free to decide for themselves how to avoid getting this virus. All would have been fine — at least as fine as it has been, with none of the economic and social upheaval and decline. Of course, Donald Trump would likely still be President, and the country would not be under the stranglehold of an emerging one-party dictatorship, including the obliteration of the Bill of Rights itself.............. The Destabilizing Mix of Demography and Entitlements, Part I »

I’ve written many times about demographic change and the implications for public policy – both in the United States and around the world.

Simply stated, it will be increasingly difficult to maintain tax-and-transfer entitlement programs in societies where people are having fewer children and people are living longer.

I’m raising this issue because I spoke on this topic earlier today at an e-symposium organized by Trends Research in Abu Dhabi, UAE. Here’s a slide with my main message.

Why is it bad news from an economic perspective?

As I noted in the next slide, tax-and-transfer entitlement programs for the elderly (most notably Social Security and Medicare in the United States) become harder to finance when there are lots of beneficiaries and too few taxpayers to support them.

So what’s going to happen in various nations when the irresistible force of more beneficiaries meets the immovable object of fewer taxpayers?

In my presentation, I pointed out that there are only three potential solutions.

I explained that higher tax burdens and higher debt levels would not be economically prudent.

The right approach is genuine entitlement reform, but I freely admitted that this “pre-funding” model probably won’t happen.

Here’s the relevant slide.

By the way, Singapore is the role model for pre-funding, but many other nations have adopted that approach for retirement income (such as Israel, Denmark, Switzerland, Hong Kong, Netherlands, Faroe Islands, and Sweden).

Unfortunately, most nations are heading for a demographic iceberg (including the U.S.) but I fear few of them will enact the reforms that are needed to avert a bad outcome.

Yet More Corruption in Horrifyingly Corrupt South Africa

By Don BoysMay 3, 2019

South Africa has been bleeding money in recent years, but it's also lost professionals and the wealthy whites who have kept the nation running. The fleeing whites have been running to the safety of other nations because of poor working conditions in South Africa, including legal affirmative action making jobs and job advancement impossible for whites. The South African Fin 24 reported, "About 3,000 super-rich have left SA in the past 10 years."

Sensible whites are fleeing the nation because of multiple problems with race relations, banking, crime, unemployment, health problems with 19% of the population infected with HIV, educational problems with inadequate buildings and dangerous latrines where kids have fallen in and drowned, and political corruption. It is a seething volcano about to explode.

Rape is common in the major cities, with one man in three admitting to having raped at least one woman and over 25% of women have been victims. A woman is more likely to be raped than learn to read. The crimes are seldom investigated and litigated. If litigated, seldom are there any serious consequences.

Thievery abounds in all areas of society, and every person looks out for himself. Everyone in any place of authority seems to have his hand out. There seems to be a mania to get the bribe before someone else does, as recent hearings have proven........... To Read More....

NATO in Crisis

April 12, 2019 By Frank Hawkins

In 1949, with the debris of WWII still clogging German cities, Western nations led by the United States and Great Britain formed the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). The primary purpose of the alliance was to provide a multinational shield against Soviet aggression.

Today the alliance itself is threatened, with President Trump rightly accusing Germany and other members of not living up to their pledges to support the pact. Of the 28 members of NATO, only seven are paying the required 2% of GDP to support the alliance. The United States weighs in with a hefty 3.39% while Germany, the second largest economy in the alliance, is only contributing 1.36%.

After being called out by Trump, German Chancellor Angela Merkel promised that Germany would begin increasing its defense contributions reaching an initial plateau of 1.5% by 2024.

But it’s not working out that way. German Finance Minister Olaf Scholz threw the target into doubt with the new German federal budget that suggests their percentage is actually going to shrink to 1.23%. What’s going on?

In a recent issue of Foreign Affairs, Robert Kagan addressed the issue in an article titled, “The New German Question, What Happens When Europe Comes Apart?”................Read more
