Euthanasia Excess: In Ontario, You Can Plan to Expire in 24 Hours

The progressive state apparently considers individual human beings as a burden.

By Apr 16, 2025 @ Liberty Nation News, Tags: Articles, Opinion, Politics

The grisly machinery of euthanasia continues to expand beyond all promised safeguards directly north of the United States. A “member of Ontario’s MAiD [Medical Assistance in Dying] Death Review Committee” wrote that citizens are being ushered into the Great Beyond in Canada’s largest province by population despite not being irreversibly ill and amid evidence of a “lack of thorough capacity assessments and concerns that individuals may not have freely chosen” to die.

“Despite its compassionate framing, investigative journalists and government reports reveal troubling patterns where inadequate exploration of reversible suffering – such as lack of access to medical treatments, poverty, loneliness, and feelings of being a burden – have driven Canadians to choose death,” Dr. Ramona Coelho, a longtime MAiD critic, stated April 7 in an eye-opening article for the Macdonald-Laurier Institute, a public policy think tank based in Ottawa.

Liberty Nation depends on the support of our readers.

The snowball-rolling-down-a-hill increase in MAiD can be directly attributed to a government health care system focused on economic priorities as well as a modern culture in which family and community ties have been frayed (or is demolished a better word?) and individuals increasingly feel detached from the greater whole.

Dead Before Dawn

What was once pledged to be a carefully thought-out process is rapidly becoming a drive-thru for death. Canadians can become eligible for state-practiced euthanasia in as little as 24 hours. Coelho references a report from the Ontario Ministry of the Solicitor General’s Office of the Chief Coroner titled “Navigating Complex Issues within Same Day and Next Day MAiD Provisions,” which “includes cases where MAiD was provided on the same day or the day after it was requested.”

These rush-job deaths involve so-called Track 1 MAiD candidates, who are identified as facing a reasonably foreseeable natural death. But the optics of Canadians going from inquiring about MAiD to being dead before the next sunrise are problematic.

“Some members familiar with MAiD practice identified a possible pattern where the exploration of MAiD starts much earlier than the formal assessment process,” the Ontario Chief Coroner’s report asserted. “Persons often wish to delay their formal request until they are closer to their decision to access MAiD. In many of these cases, the relationship and assessment for MAiD has begun long before the formal written request.”

That is how easy it is for Ontario to extinguish you in less time than it takes to get your Amazon Prime package delivered. Using medically meaningless words like “some,” “possible,” and “often” allows authorities to diagnose you as being fully informed about and disposed toward the ending of your existence.

Coelho highlighted the alarming power over life and death being wielded by MAiD staffers and how casually it is applied:

“In the same-day or next-day MAiD report, Mr. C, diagnosed with metastatic cancer, initially expressed interest in MAiD but then experienced cognitive decline and became delirious. He was sedated for pain management. Despite the treating team confirming that capacity was no longer present, a MAiD practitioner arrived and withheld sedation, attempting to rouse him.

“It was documented that the patient mouthed ‘yes’ and nodded and blinked in response to questions. Based on this interaction, the MAiD provider deemed the patient to have capacity. The MAiD practitioner then facilitated a virtual second assessment, and MAiD was administered.”

Then there is the Track 2 pool of MAiD candidates. This would be Canadians diagnosed as having a “grievous and irremediable medical condition” whose “natural deaths are not reasonably foreseeable.” While still a statistically small number overall, not surprisingly, these euthanasia fatalities are on the rise.

Euthanasia in the Big City

“To compare to previous years, between 2021 and 2022, the number of Track 2 MAiD provisions doubled (from 223 provisions in 2021 to 463 provisions in 2022),” the Canadian government’s Fifth Annual Report on Medical Assistance in Dying in Canada, which covers 2023, stated. “The increase between 2022 and 2023 was comparatively smaller, with 34% more Track 2 MAiD cases reported.”

A look at these Canadians choosing to die when not suffering from a terminal illness is disheartening. “Track 2 recipients were more commonly women (60 percent). No matter the age at which they sought medical assistance in dying, Track 2 recipients were more likely to live alone,” the CBC reported in October.

“Ninety percent of Track 1 recipients provided a family member as next of kin, compared to 73 percent of Track 2 recipients. Track 2 recipients were more likely to provide a friend, extended family member, case worker, lawyer or doctor as their next of kin … Track 2 recipients were more likely to live in areas of the province with high levels of marginalization.”

Does the urbanized lifestyle favored by the progressive left play a part in all this? “Geographic clustering, particularly in Western Ontario, where same-day and next-day MAiD deaths occur most frequently, raises concerns that some MAiD providers may be predisposed to rapidly approve patients for quick death rather than ensuring patients have access to adequate care or exploring if suffering is remediable,” Coelho wrote.

‘You May Be Eligible’

Above all, one sees the predictable pattern of endless enlargement of the state-controlled euthanasia machinery. The wording used by the Canadian government on its official website to explain MAiD Track 2 eligibility evokes just such a feeling.

“You do not need to have a fatal or terminal condition to be eligible for medical assistance in dying,” the government informs its citizens. The word “not” is in bold. “If your only medical condition is a mental illness, you are not eligible for medical assistance in dying until March 17, 2027,” the website advises. It goes on to say, “If you have a mental illness along with other medical conditions, you may be eligible for medical assistance in dying.” Check with us, we might be able to speed up the process.

This may be expected in growing materialistic societies that reduce human beings to economic units:  Death is offered up as a transactional experience akin to buying a burger from the menu of a fast-food restaurant.

Trudeau's government calls for euthanasia program to 'treat' children with naysaying parents

March 1, 2023 By Olivia Murray

Treat human life as anything less than sacred, and humanity is rapidly dehumanized. Canada's MAiD, like all medical homicide programs, is the metaphorical foot in the door, an obstinate wedge, breaking the seal of a once-closed divider.  Or we call it what it is (genocide), and MAiD is like an axe-wielding Jack Nicholson in The Shining. For context, in 2016, the year "assisted suicide" became legal, the number of MAiD deaths was 1,018.  Five years later, the 2021 data showed that number at 10,064.  This is a rounded 889% increase.  (This datum hails from a government report on the program, which can be accessed here.)  But there was also something else that stood out about the 2021 tally, entirely unsettling: it was the first year that MAiD executioners were legally permitted to kill those whose death was not likely to occur in the "foreseeable" future.  They label this group as "non-RFND."  In 2021, those deaths accounted for 2.2% of the total number. Two days ago, Harbingers Daily published a report by David Fiorazo, which opened with this passage:..............To Read More....

Canada Approves Euthanizing Patient Because He’s Poor

International  Wesley Smith  Dec 14, 2022 Ottawa, Canada

Death is increasingly seen as the answer to a variety of woes in Canada, with its euthanasia libertinism running truly amuck. This includes veterans being offered euthanasia for PTSD and a nursing home patient lethally injected because she did not want to be isolated during a COVID lockdown. There are also cases in which people ask to die because they can’t access prompt medical care from Canada’s socialized healthcare system, and one in which death was offered to a disabled woman rather than a stairs chair lift.

Now, a disabled man wants to die because he is afraid of falling into poverty. And at least one doctor has said yes........  To Read More.....

Canada’s Orwellian Euthanasia Regime

Despite having had among the harshest lockdown policies and highest vaccination rates, it is possible that by this time next year the number of deaths from euthanasia will surpass the total number of deaths from COVID in this country.  However, it may soon be hard to keep track given the deliberate obfuscation and falsification of euthanasia records.   Ontario is Canada’s most populous province. Its College of Surgeons and Physicians provides the following definition for Medical Assistance in Dying (MAID):...........To Read More....

The Montreal Nursing Homes Massacre

William Walter Kay BA LL B

Reportage on Canadian euthanasia invariably highlights the pioneering role Quebec’s euthanasia movement plays within the country.

In June 2014 Quebec’s Assembly became Canada’s first legislature to legalize euthanasia. The Bill, introduced by the Parti Quebecois then moved forward by Liberal Premier Couillard’s government, passed 94 to 22 with no abstentions.

The Act Respecting End of Life Care was the fruit of years of labour by pressure groups like Quebec’s chapter of Dying with Dignity and the 600-member Quebec Palliative Care Association (QCPA) whose General Manager also presides over the Alliance of Palliative Care Homes. QCPA’s Manifesto extols citizens’ rights to a “good death” and to professional counseling regarding end-of-life options.

On the eve of the vote Quebec’s College of Physicians endorsed euthanasia; something neither the Canadian Medical Association nor any other provincial College had done.

Similarly, the Archdiocese of Quebec parted with the many Canadian Catholic clerics who deny funeral sacraments to those who die via euthanasia lest they endorse sinful suicide. Quebec’s euthanized are buried as per normal; an approach the Archdiocese claims complies with Pope Francis’s teachings.

Quebec’s medically-assisted death squads waited for the green light from Quebec’s Court of Appeal then, between December 10, 2015 and March 31, 2019, either through medically-assisted death or terminal sedation, they terminated 5,856 Quebecers’ lives. Around 4% of all Quebec deaths are now induced.

This percentage is not high enough for some. At a November 29, 2019 presser Quebec Health Minister Danielle McCann, flanked by three supportive opposition politicians, advocated comprehensive soliciting of advanced consents from the elderly so that should these folk later lose capacity to legally consent, they could be dispatched without much ado.

McCann went on to comment on the status of a Quebec Superior Court ruling rejecting the Criminal Code’s criterion that a patient’s “death must be reasonably foreseeable” before euthanasia is permitted. Quebec never appealed this ruling. (The matter is now in limbo with pundits expecting Ottawa to delete this troublesome criterion mid-July.)

Thus, the Covid-19 (C-19) response roadshow hit Montreal just as their euthanasia lobby forged a momentous compact among judges, bishops, politicians and the regional medical oligarchy. Of course, this euthanasia drive is not the sole key to unlocking Quebec’s peculiar C-19 response; but it must be held in mind; …and what a peculiar response Quebec’s has been!
  • Quebec’s 8.5 million residents constitute 22.6% of Canada’s population (37.6 million).
  • Quebec’s 3,483 C-19 fatalities constitute 62.5% of the Canadian total (5,595).
  • Ontario, population 14.6 million, reports 1,858 C-19 deaths.
  • The rest of Canada (pop 14.5 million) reports 345 deaths.
  • In terms of C-19 deaths-per-million citizens: Quebec registers 409; Ontario registers 127; and the rest of Canada: 24.
Four million Quebecers reside in Greater Montreal. Another 2 million reside within a 100-kilometre radius of Montreal. This combined area witnessed 90% of Quebec’s C-19 fatalities partly because this area hosts most of Quebec’s 2,600 long-term care facilities (“nursing homes”). Said facilities are mostly run by the provincial government.

Officially, 75% (2,601) of Quebec’s C-19 fatalities occurred inside nursing homes. There is clear evidence of under-counting of nursing home fatalities. Nursing home plus geriatric ward fatalities exceed 90% of all fatalities.

Official figures do transpose nicely upon reported ages of C-19 fatalities. Almost 40% of fatalities were aged 80 to 90. A third were over 90.

Quebec reported its first C-19 death on March 18. Six of Quebec’s first 9 fatalities happened in nursing homes. By March 27 nursing homes were obvious biohazards.

On April 1 officials revealed that 519 nursing homes harboured at least one C-19 case.

On April 8 news broke that 115 of 250 residents of a Laval nursing home were C-19 positive. Thirteen residents there had perished.

On April 10 ambulance crews discovered residents malnourished, dehydrated and covered with feces at Dorval’s Residence Herron. Crews found corpses Herron’s staff were unaware of. A dispute erupted between provincial health officials and the ambulance service over how many body-bags had been dragged from Herron and over how many of those bags contained C-19 fatalities. Herron, which averages 4 deaths per month, had 31 deaths in 14 days. One hundred-fifty residents and staff tested positive.

On April 13 authorities noted a government-run home in Lasalle had 26 C-19 fatalities and 351 cases.

At an April 14 presser Quebec’s Director of Public Health stated that he had originally operated on the assumption that asymptomatic C-19 carriers were not contagious. This derriere covering arrived just as news outlets dropped bombs like:
“…as in Italy and Spain, Quebec focussed on freeing up hospital and ICU capacity, and in some cases preventatively transferred seniors out of hospitals into care facilities. At the same time, it established recommendations to those care facilities restricting the transfer of residents back to hospitals should they fall ill. The result has been a humanitarian disaster of still undetermined proportions…”
Health authorities knew intimately where they were sending and confining these patients. Problems at Quebec nursing homes have been studied ad nauseam. Many homes have crowded communal dining rooms and narrow hallways. Many have wards with multiple beds per room and shared toilets. Most have residents incapable of following elementary hygiene protocols meandering about the building. Staff often work at more than one home and continued to do so during the pandemic.

Also amidst the pandemic, nursing home staff earning little more than minimum wage were expected to buy their own personal protective gear. By April’s end thousands of nursing home staff had contracted C-19 or had walked off the job. One home had 2 staff attending to 60 bedridden patients.
On April 30 the government reported 6,603 C-19 cases among nursing home residents.
Quebec’s elderly C-19 sufferers were sent to and/or confined in circumstances approaching the opposite of quarantine. The contagious were not isolated and well-tended. They were herded into cloistered proximity with the most vulnerable, then abandoned.

Quebec has 9,280 C-19 cases aged over 70. Quebec is only treating 1,763 C-19 sufferers in hospital (many of whom caught C-19 whilst in geriatric wards). Hence, thousands of C-19 patients continue to languish inside bio chambers alongside tens of thousands of elderly neighbors.

A wise man once opined: never presume there is a conspiracy behind any disaster that sheer stupidity or mere incompetence might explain.

That said: are we to be blind to the fact that the demographic cohort which the euthanasia boosters have long sought to snuff-out is the same cohort now being extinguished by C-19?

Beyond the gormless promises and thespian commiserations proffered by Legault’s team one espies a shadow party of Montreal-area politico-medical elites who during the years immediately preceding the pandemic obsessively clamoured for the social licence and legal permission to exterminate the precise people who are now dropping like flies under their watch.

The Journey To Tyannous Inhumanity

By Rich Kozlovich

On April 21st this article Dutch Supreme Court expands euthanasia laws for dementia appeared in The Telegraph saying:
The Dutch Supreme Court on Tuesday ruled that doctors could legally carry out euthanasia on people with advanced dementia who had earlier put their wishes in writing even if they could no longer confirm them because of their illness. The ruling is a landmark in Dutch euthanasia legislation which up to now had required patients to confirm euthanasia requests. This had not been considered possible for mentally incapacitated patients like advanced dementia sufferers.
Although it doesn’t run in my family, I've have had a family member with Alzheimer's, who I was very close to. I can assure you, I'm empathetic to anyone going through it, especially their family.

Dementia or Alzheimer's are terrible afflictions. That movie with James Garner and Gena Rowlands "The Notebook" was really touching. But the last thing I want is for bureaucrats deciding who should live and who should die, including the judiciary.

It never stops at this point, and as soon as it becomes acceptable to society for human beings to decide who should live and who should die, it grows and expands, like an infectious disease. To kill someone is murder, even if its authorized by government.

This goes beyond the slippery slope, it’s now the beginning of a toboggin ride. When we allowed abortion, I predicted they would then want to murder those born found to be unfit, and that’s been touted but not practiced, although aborted babies who lived were allowed to die. That's murder.

I also predicted this misanthropy would expand to the elderly, the infirm and the mentally deficient. That’s where this journey is heading.

We also should remember we were practicing eugenics in the United States up to the 1960’s, where there was the forced sterilization of tens of thousands.  I will admit the reason had to do with genetic disorders they were passing on to their children, which is at least understandable.  But when it starts there where does this all end?

This policy of eugenics was promoted by Progressives such as Theodore Roosevelt, Woodrow Wilson, H.G. Wells, George Bernard Shaw, Walter Lippmann, Rexford Tugwell, W.E.B. Dubois, and in Nazi Germany it became policy, only it went beyond forced sterilization, to forced termination.

Margaret Sanger may have been the biggest promoter of eugenics in the world, and even influenced Hitler's thinking.  She wanted to control the "brown" races, and although Sanger was opposed to abortion for that purpose, the organization she founded eventually morphed into Planned Parenthood, which has murdered millions of unborn babies.

Is eugenics different than murder? Yes, but its part and parcel of the same package, the same mentality, the same moral thread, and the journey eventually leads to the same end.

Once God is out of the equation, everything is acceptable because there’s no longer a moral code that prevents any atrocity conceivable to the human mind. Even with God in the picture, the practices of religious fanatics in the Middle Ages and during the Renaissance, demonstrate the horrors practiced by tyrants, whether they’re political or religious.

Ideology makes all things possible, and this is an ideological journey to tyrannous inhumanity!

Sanctity of Life No Longer Deemed Sacred in Trudeau’s Canada

By   Bio and Archives April 29, 2019

stupendously stupid photo-ops like the one yesterday when he spent all of 15 minutes with his children filling sand bags to hold back raging flood waters in Ottawa, it’s that   a thoughtless narcissistic trust fund baby somehow got himself elected as prime minister.

As a Trust Fund Little Guy from the day he was born, Justin Trudeau has never had to give a moment’s thought to anyone, or anything else but himself.

While untold thousands are posting Twitter critiques about how the Selfie King PM called a volunteer trying to help flood vulnerable neighbours “unneighbourly” and “unfriendly,” placing his hand on the volunteer’s forearm and allowing Kanata-Carleton Liberal MP Karen McCrimmon to try to push the volunteer away, the sun is going down on Canada.

What did the Tweet brigade expect from a prime minister who self-identifies as a “feminist” and has done everything but stand on his well-coiffed head to squeeze himself into yet another photo-op?
When Daddy’s Trust Fund PM is not showing off, he’s leading the noble nation called Canada into the graveyard.

One photo-op Trudeau will never show: Without their even being aware of it, people are going to Canadian hospitals to be lethally injected by doctors:
“Canadian doctors committed thousands of homicides in 2018. According to an interim report published by the government, in the first ten months of last year, doctors lethally injected 2, 613 patients (with one assisted suicide) — and that doesn’t include the homicides committed by doctors in Quebec, Northwest Territories, Yukon, and Nunavut. Toronto Children’s Hospital Set to Begin Assisted Suicide for Children. It Gets Worse.

By

Once you open the floodgate of morally acceptable euthanasia, there’s no telling what kind of rapid moral decay will flow out.  In a world that increasingly views the lives of the unborn, terminally ill, and disabled as less valuable and worth living, it’s impossible to adequately distinguish between when it is and is not appropriate to end a human life.  So don’t be surprised when you hear that a Canadian children’s hospital is taking steps to begin euthanizing terminally-ill children........To Read More.....

Death with dignity? European countries are now euthanizing the mentally ill

By: Nate Madden | October 25, 2016

In his weekend editorial, Chris Lane of The Washington Post outlined how the once truly unthinkable has now become reality: The mentally ill are now being regularly euthanized in the developed countries of Belgium and the Netherlands in Europe.   Writes Lane, on a recent report from Belgium’s Federal Commission on the Control and Evaluation of Euthanasia:.......The fact that this is even occurring ought to give voters in both the District of Columbia and the State of Colorado (both of which are currently considering assisted suicide bills) pause regarding the frightening euphemisms/promises of “death with dignity.”

Perhaps describing these trends as “slippery slopes” is insufficient to their nature, as they more closely resemble a grim and merciless riptide. .....To Read More....
