May Jimmy Carter Rest in Peace. However, his death doesn’t change facts. Thanks to Joe Biden, many consider Carter the second worst president since at least the turn of the last century. Joey gets to keep first place.  Some highlights of Carter’s abysmal presidency (1976-1980) are:

  • Double-digit inflation.
  • Long gas lines (remember the even/odd days?).
  • High gas prices (at the time).
  •  “Sold” the Panama Canal for $1 along with asking the Panama government to “respect the rights of American citizens.” The UNITED STATES OF AMERICA built the Panama Canal!
  • Abandoned US ally Iran Shah Mohammed Reza Pahlavi resulting in the country being overthrown by Islamists.
  • Iran holding 52 American hostages for 444 days. (They were released the day Reagan was inaugurated.)
  • Unrepentant antisemite, which became more obvious once he left office.
  • As FORMER president, repeatedly meddled in foreign affairs.

As Iain Dale wrote in “Let’s Be Honest, Carter Was a Terrible President” — “While Carter’s post presidency good works, especially in Africa, did wonders to rehabilitate his reputation in the eyes of the world, this cannot mask the fact that his period in office was a failure, whatever the Left might have you believe.” Just as the 1980 Ronald Reagan victory was a repudiation of Jimmy Carter’s four dismal years in office, Donald Trump’s 2024 election victory was a rejection of Joe Biden’s four miserable years in office. History does repeat itself!
