As America edges further away from China, Bill Gates moves closer. A consensus has emerged that the Asian communist superpower is the number one geopolitical rival to the US, but that isn’t stopping the billionaire “philanthropist” from pouring tens of millions of dollars into the country on an annual basis.
“The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation paid out or approved for future payment roughly $23 million in grants to Chinese government organizations during its 2022 reporting period, tax documents show,” The Daily Caller reported Jan. 7. That’s par for the course. As Liberty Nation noted last June, the Gates money machine is heavily entwined with Beijing’s tyrannical government, including its People’s Liberation Army.
Funding the Blood-Stained Regime
Never mind the long-established suspicion that all Chinese business entities are forcibly beholden to the state: Direct support for the Chinese government is a Gates staple. The 2022 “[r]ecipients included the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of the People’s Republic of China, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Chinese National Health Commission and the Ministry of Science and Technology of the People’s Republic of China, among others,” The Daily Caller relates. “These government entities cumulatively received $11.3 million from the Gates Foundation.”
But it is the military ties that bolster the very strong argument that Gates poses an active threat to US national security.
“[T]he Gates Foundation funded Chinese universities that regularly perform defense work for the Chinese military,” the news site continues. “Peking University, Tsinghua University and Shanghai Jiao Tong University received millions from the Gates Foundation, but they engage in defense research for China and are overseen by China’s State Administration of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense, according to the Australian Strategic Policy Institute. These universities received almost $6 million from the Gates Foundation.”
It’s perplexing to see Bill Gates not taking substantially greater heat for his extensive relations with China, given that the American people identify the nation as the number one inimical competitor to the US on the global stage. “For the third year in a row, Americans are most likely to mention China as the United States’ greatest enemy in the world today,” polling giant Gallup revealed last March. “When asked the open-ended question, 50% of Americans say China is their nation’s greatest enemy, with most of the rest, 32%, naming Russia. North Korea, which was viewed as the greatest enemy in 2018, is now a distant third at 7%.”
Do these same Americans fully understand how much China values Bill Gates as an asset?
Marx, Lenin, Stalin and Bill Gates
Ace investigative author Peter Schweizer wrote in his 2022 book Red-Handed: How American Elites Get Rich Helping China Win:
“Gates’ efforts to support the regime’s policies have been rewarded over the years. In 2006, the state-run People’s Daily Online named Gates among ‘50 foreigners shaping China’s modern development.’ Joining him on the list were Karl Marx, Vladimir Lenin, Albert Einstein, Charles Darwin, and Joseph Stalin. Gates was the only person from the world of technology on the list.
“Earlier that year, when Chinese president Hu Jintao made his first official visit to the United States, he stopped in Seattle for a visit with Gates at his ‘palatial home’ before heading to Washington, D.C. ABC News declared, ‘Chinese President Meets Bill Gates First.’”
The Gates reach extends beyond his sketchy charitable agenda. Microsoft, the Big Tech corporate goliath Gates co-founded, has steeled itself to continue its elaborate working relationship with China whether or not it is in the best interests of the US to do so. Pressure from Congress over its artificial intelligence lab in Beijing reportedly spurred internal company debate on how to proceed. The decision? Full steam ahead.
“We are as committed as ever to the lab and the world-class research of this team,” Microsoft Research director Peter Lee said in a statement,” The New York Times reported January 10. “There has been no discussion or advocacy to close Microsoft Research Asia, and we look forward to continuing our research agenda.”
It would undoubtedly be painful for Microsoft to pull out of Beijing now after having dumped so much money into the project. “In 2018, Microsoft said it had invested more than $1 billion in research and development in China over the previous decade,” The Times states.
But the paper also highlighted a very important voice in keeping the lab up and running.
“Gates, who is still in regular touch with company executives and supports global engagement, has long backed the Beijing lab, people with knowledge of the matter said,” The Times writes. “He traveled to China in June and met President Xi Jinping, who told him that he was ‘the first American friend I’ve met with this year.’”
“What does this mean?” Schweizer asks of Gates’s fawning praise for Jinping over the years. “It means that one of the richest men in the world was praising the leadership of a man who runs ethno-political prison camps.”
“This is more than idle chatter,” Schweizer added. “Gates is now an adviser of sorts to the Chinese government. In 2017, the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) honored Gates with a lifetime membership. The CAE is under the direct supervision of the Chinese State Council, Beijing’s top governing body. This elite body, whose name sounds relatively harmless, is actually at the center of Chinese government power and plays a central role in the Chinese military-industrial complex.”
American businessman and “philanthropist” Bill Gates long ago crossed a line in his China affairs. To describe him merely as a foreign asset for or collaborator with a hostile oppressive regime does not suffice.
