One thing is abundantly clear - Americans are startlingly ignorant of..... well..... almost everything. Our education system has consistantly dumbed down our children's education, and especially so when it comes to civics and American history. Worse yet, so many can't read, write or work basic arithmetic, and they're sending these incomplete scholars to college to be fixed with remedial courses in subjects they should have covered in grade school. The end result is a large percentage of American society doesn't read and are incapable of thinking clearly. Clarity is what leads to understanding, and that's why society is so easily swayed like the waves smashing us back and forth against rocky shores. We lack clarity and understanding.
And people wonder why Bernie and Hillary are the Democratic candidates and why Trump is getting away with his lying and rudeness. Scalia has been in the news over and over again for decades and yet 44% of those questioned never heard of him. A number of years ago they asked people in what year the War of 1812 was fought. Guess what? A whole lot of those questioned didn't know.
Ignorance doesn't mean we're stupid. It merely means we just don't know, and since there's so much knowledge out there we're all bound to be ignorant about a great many things. That makes ignorance the natural state. But that's fixable. Stupid is when we're unwilling to find out. And you can't fix stupid!
