Japan's Maritime Self-Defense Force says it is currently conducting a
joint military exercise with the US and Australian navies in areas
including the South China Sea. The MSDF on Tuesday announced that its destroyer
Teruzuki, the American aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan, and an
Australian amphibious assault ship are taking part along with six other
vessels.
The drill began on Sunday. The MSDF says that the
defense officials of the three countries are simulating various battle
scenarios in Asia-Pacific waters from the South China Sea to the sea off
Guam and are checking the role of each ship, and the ability to share
information.
The US Navy revealed that earlier this month it had
deployed two aircraft carriers to the South China Sea in two different
drills. The ongoing multinational drill could be aimed at emphasizing
the cooperation of the three countries as the United States has been
increasing pressure on China's growing military presence in the region.....
