The Left’s Plot Against George Washington

In Portland, the BLM mob toppled a statue of George Washington. Four years later, local leftist activists and officials have continued sabotaging efforts to restore it again. In New York City and Chicago, officials have discussed removing statues of Washington. And the Father of our Country isn’t even safe at the University of Washington where calls to remove him continue.

But the War on Washington isn’t just a recent phenomenon.

The Left didn’t want until George Washington was a statue to topple him. Newspapers like The National Gazette, The Philadelphia Aurora and The New York Time Piece, which were the vanguard of the emerging Democratic-Republican party, depicted him being led to the guillotine.

Democrats today claim that they oppose George Washington because he was a slave owner, but why did Democrats who were not only slave owners then but defended slavery (unlike Washington who favored liberating slaves and whose Washington Benevolent Societies were the organizing network for black conservative voters in the 1800s ) oppose him then?

Long before their relatively recent interest in organizing black people, American leftists were great enthusiasts of the French Revolution and favored bringing it to this country. My book, ‘Domestic Enemies: The Founding Fathers’ Fight Against The Left’, reveals how the Democrats got their start as the “French Party” built around “Democratic Societies” modeled on French radical Jacobin clubs and set up with the aid of foreign emissaries of the French Revolution.

George Washington’s great crime in the eyes of the leftists of his day was his refusal to turn over America to the forces of the French Revolution which was the USSR of its day. “Ten thousand People in the Streets of Philadelphia, day after day, threatened to drag Washington out of his House, and effect a Revolution in the Government, or compell it to declare War in favour of the French Revolution,” John Adams would later remember.

French Foreign Minister Charles Delacroix had urged Citizen Pierre-Auguste Adet, the French ambassador, to “use all means in his power to bring about a successful revolution, and Washington’s replacement.”

Washington, always a fighter, would not take the leftist campaign against him lying down.

In his address to Congress, President George Washington had warned of the threat of “certain self-created societies.” By those he meant the Democratic Societies. In a private letter he even more explicitly described how “these societies were instituted by the artful & designing members (many of their body I have no doubt mean well, but know little of the real plan),” by an agent of the French government “under popular and fascinating guises, the most diabolical attempts to destroy the best fabric of human government.” The Democratic Societies, he warned, were created to “sow Sedition; to poison the minds of the people of this country.”

First Lady Abigail Adams later wrote at the height of the crisis that, “France has setled her plan of subjugating America” through “Agents and Emissaries, whom with truth & reason she bosts of having thickly scatterd through our Country, saving her Principles, her depravity of Manners, her Atheism in every part of the united States” so that “she will seduce the mind & sap the foundation of our strongest pillars, Religion & Government.”

“And if there be a Nation on Earth capable of going the necessary lengths, and making the proper Sacrifices to stop its course,—it must be one that is already possesed of substantial Liberty, that knows how to appreciate it, & how to distinguish between it, and that Sort of Liberty which France is trying to propogate throughout the World.”

That “sort of liberty” with its depravity, as opposed to American liberty, was the Left.

And in ‘Domestic Enemies: The Founding Fathers’ Fight Against The Left’, I describe the rise of the American Left and its violent and treasonous plots against Washington and America.

Despite the threats and attacks, George Washington not only refused to give in to the Left, but five years away from death and suffering from arthritis and hearing loss, he became the first and last president to lead troops in the field when he rode out to confront the Whiskey Rebellion.

“We are ready for a state of revolution and the guillotine of France,” the leader of the Mingo Creek Democratic Society had declared. But the guillotine proved no match for George.

Washington rode out with the troops because he feared that America was on the verge of falling to “mob or Club government” under which “there can be no security for life—liberty—or Property”. While Washington won the battle, he earned the undying enmity of the Democrats.

In his Farewell Address on leaving office, George Washington warned about the “mischiefs of the spirit of party” which “opens the door to foreign influence and corruption”.

Both the French and their leftist allies in America were furious at Washington’s message.

“If ever there was a period for rejoicing, this is the moment,” the Philadelphia Aurora responded. “This man who is the source of all the misfortunes of our country is this day reduced to a level with his fellow citizens.”

Adet, the French ambassador, sent a copy of the Farewell Address to his government while raging against “the lies it contains, the tone of insolence”. Adet and the French regime launched a campaign of naval terror “to arouse the attention of the public at the moment of choosing the electors who must choose the President.” The campaign was treasonously coordinated “with our friends in Congress” who, according to Adet, “only saw me last winter in secret.”

But attempting to terrorize Americans backfired badly. Adams responded to French attacks on American ships with the Quasi-War and Jefferson refused to end America’s neutrality.

Nonetheless the Democratic Societies influenced the new Democratic-Republican Party and American leftists continued to dream of bringing the French Revolution to these shores.

A toast at the Democratic Society of Philadelphia envisioned France’s revolutionary movement spreading until it will “have the whole earth for its area, and the arch of heaven for its dome.”

That mission outlived George Washington and the French Revolution. It continued on through European revolutions, the Communist takeover of the Soviet Union and it still continues today.

That is why leftists really want Washington to fall.

George Washington's Prescient Words

As the man who was "first in the hearts of his countrymen," George Washington wrote guiding principles for the newly established country in his Farewell Address of 1796. He stressed:

... that the 'national Union' formed the bedrock of 'collective and individual happiness' for U.S. citizens. As he explained, 'The name of AMERICAN, which belongs to you, in your national capacity, must always exalt the just pride of Patriotism, more than any appellation derived from local distinctions.'

We see the degradation.............One need only read the 1994 book titled Unsettling America: An Anthology of Contemporary Multicultural Poetry, which states in its introduction that the "nostalgic vision of a simple, harmonious past ... obscures the long history of oppression within the United States." The editors choose "not to be all inclusive [or] create a pluralistic play of voices." Instead, they choose "poems that directly address the instability of American identity and confront the prevalence of cultural conflict and exchange within the United States ... [in order] to highlight the constant erecting, blurring, breaking, clarifying, and crossing of boundaries that are a consequence of the complex intersections among people's cultures, and languages within national borders."

Hail to the fact that the country is not afraid to deal with its past, but woe to the students who receive such a skewed and narrow interpretation of what the country has accomplished..........George Washington understood that "foreign nations could not be trusted to do anything more than pursue their own interests when entering international treaties."  Yet Trump is excoriated when he demands that America's interests come first, and not the interests of the European Union, not the interests of the United Nation's collection of terrorist thugs, and certainly not the interests of illegal aliens who wander into America and demand to be paid.  Clearly, these illegal aliens are not devoted to Washington's idea that whether "[c]itizens, by birth or choice ... [the] country has a right to concentrate [their] affections."...........

Reflections on the American Revolution: The Generals Part II of III

How did America win its independence? In Part I of this essay, I looked at the population trends, foreign alliances, and equipment and weather conditions under which the American Revolution was fought. Let’s add some thoughts on the leaders of the principal combatants: the American and British generals. The American command was far from perfect – but the war could have turned out very differently if the American side had not had the advantages of leadership it did, first and foremost the singular character of George Washington........ 

Any history of the Revolutionary War has to consider the unique leadership of George Washington. 43 years old when he assumed command, Washington came to the war with combat leadership experience from the French and Indian War, training as a surveyor that prepared him well to deal with maps and terrain, a decade of active fox hunting that had made him an excellent horseman, and experience in the Virginia House of Burgesses that had educated him in practical politics. 

Physically, Washington was a man of great strength, vigor and endurance and almost supernatural good luck. Washington’s robust constitution survived smallpox, diphtheria, multiple bouts of malaria, pleurisy, dysentery….. To Read More…..

My Take - Over the years I have read a great deal of Washington; about his weaknesses and his strengths.  What drives me crazy are the so-called historians who rave about this man.  Washington was a man with great natural leadership qualities and in my opinion he was the only man in the colonies who could have held the Continental Army together, and the only man who could have kept them in check when the Continental Congress decided to cheat them out of their pay.  

 But Washington was not a good tactician nor was he a competent strategist, but he was smart enough to recognize that.  In my mind it is clear that Washington always put the success of his mission far ahead of himself.  That is a sign of true leadership.    

This is an honest and valuable recitation of the facts that doesn't place him on planes which he did not exist nor does it diminish his character, except to note that he was a bit of a snot.   This does bring into perspective between those who really were the contributors that brought about a successful revolution, and those who so much has been written.  

This is a good read, and please make sure to read the comments.  I also didn't remember the back slapping situation that way either.  There is so much more to be said about this time, the people, the heroes, the villains and most importantly the details and facts that no one seems to know.  I would liked to have seen weekly installments that went into greater detail about the events and the characters. 

I find it fascinating at how many people tell me they hate history but will sit and listen attentively while I talk about it.  Why?  Because it is taught badly.  History shouldn't only be read; it should be recited by someone who knows the facts and 'tells' the story because he loves the story.  That is what history is.  A great story!  And the education system no longer has great storytellers, or lovers of history. 

More Coprolite Anyone?

Yesterday I linked an article about Daryl Hannah being arrested for protesting the Keystone XL pipeline delivering crude oil from Canada. Now we find that the radicals on the government’s payroll in the State Department, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and the Bureau of Oceans have taken up this issue because of some endangered beetle, apparently as a way of stopping this pipeline. But take hope…..they have an 81 page ‘recovery plan’ for this beetle.

Interestingly, the cause of this beetle’s decline isn't clearly understood, and yet they could still come up with an 81 page ‘recovery plan’. How can anyone possibly develop a ‘recovery’ plan without that basic piece of information? For all they know their ‘plan’ could kill the rest off if they don’t know what is causing the decline in the first place.

That’s just like medieval doctors telling everyone how to cure the Black Death when they didn’t have a clue as to what it was or how it was contracted. I bet they had whole books on the subject. And they have the chutspah to claim that this decision is a "scientific" decision and not a "policy" decision. 

George Washington’s doctors decided he had a serious case of quinsy, which means “to strangle a dog” in Greek. They used really creative verbiage in those days, and did so probably because they didn’t have clue about what they were talking about.  But they needed to sound like they really knew what they were talking about.

Their treatments included burning the back of his neck, bleeding him of five pints of blood (the average person only has about 10 pints), and feeding him some kind of mercury compound as a purgative. 

And all of this was for a serious sore throat, but whether this was serious and life threatening or not, would any of this voodoo medicine helped? No, and in fact, I think it is perfectly reasonable to believe that every bit of this witch doctoring hastened his demise at the age of 67!

Allegedly he even asked them to bleed him the last time and thanked them for their efforts. Why? Because they were "educated professionals". “Eventually Washington ordered his doctors to cease their barbarisms and let him go in peace”. Among his final words were; “Doctor, I die hard, but I am not afraid to go” At this point he was probably in so much misery he couldn’t wait to go.

When you don’t know what you are dealing with how can you come up with an 81 page recovery plan?   And if you don’t know what you are dealing with how do you know that you aren’t making the problem worse and hastening their demise?   And is it reasonable that all economic activity should be stopped until they do know what they are talking about? All this for a beetle!

At this point I think it is resonable to question the "science" versus "policy" aspect of this decision.  At this point I think it would be interesting to recap the Word of the Day from August 26. Coprolite - Fossilized excrement.
