Central Park Rape: The Secret File

In an article about the election of Yusef Salaam, of the "Central Park Five," to the New York City Council last week, The New York Times' Jeffery C. Mays indignantly cited the full-page ad Donald Trump had taken out at the time, which never mentioned the Central Park rape but decried crime in the city and called for reinstitution of the death penalty.  Mays described the case against The Five thus:

"The confessions of Mr. Salaam and the four others who were convicted alongside him were coerced. There was no DNA evidence tying the teenagers -- Mr. Salaam, Korey Wise, Kevin Richardson, Raymond Santana and Antron McCray -- to the brutal attack. Mr. Trump's racist rantings only inflamed [racial] tensions."

Two of those claims are laughably false, and the third is utterly meaningless............. It's a sleight of hand to say that there was "no DNA evidence" tying The Five to the crime. Yeah, that's probably because in 1989, no one would have been looking for DNA............

Here's just some of the evidence against The Five:

-- When Santana was being driven to the precinct house for general mayhem, he blurted out: "I had nothing to do with the rape. All I did was feel the woman's tits."

At this point, the jogger's body hadn't been found yet. The police knew nothing about any rape.

-- Another boy, picked up with Richardson, told the police that he knew who did "the murder," naming McCray. Richardson concurred, saying, "Yeah. That's who did it."

Again, the police were unaware of any rape or murder.

The next morning, Richardson pointed to the 102nd Street transverse, telling officers, "This is where we got her."

-- Dennis Commedo, part of the larger group wilding that night, told the police that, when he ran into Richardson, he had said, "We just raped somebody."...............

Defense attorneys spent weeks attacking the confessions as "coerced," but two multicultural juries and the trial judge concluded that the confessions were voluntary. Taking the other side is some bimbo with a Netflix documentary, on the basis of no evidence whatsoever. Moreover, recall that when The Five confessed, no one knew whether the jogger would emerge from her coma and be able to identify her attackers.

Newly elected councilman Salaam and the Times' Mays contend that the case against The Five was racism, pure and simple. Salaam says the single, solitary reason he and the others were accused was that "black and brown people" were "instantly [deemed] guilty, without a chance of proving their innocence."  "Black and brown people" were not only deemed guilty -- they were guilty. Reyes, the one even liberals admit was guilty, is "brown."................Salaam cites Scripture a lot. When They See Us Is LIES,’ Says the Cop Who Arrested Two of the Central Park Five

The NYPD police officer who made the first arrests in the Central Park Five investigation has condemned Netflix‘s drama When They See Us as ‘lies’ and said it puts the lives of cops and prosecutors at risk.

Eric Reynolds, who as a plainclothes officer arrested Raymond Santana and Kevin Richardson, tells DailyMailTV that the four-part television adaptation is so filled with errors that it is ‘malicious recreation’.  He described the miniseries, produced by Robert De Niro and Oprah Winfrey and directed by Ava DuVernay, as ‘total nonsense’ that left him ‘flabbergasted’.

Reynolds retired in 2001 after a 20-year career where he rose to Detective Third Grade and earned department recognition multiple times for his police work.  He spoke out after an outcry in the wake of the series led to prosecutors Linda Fairstein and Elizabeth Lederer losing publishing contracts, board seats and lecturing roles.  Reynolds, 59, rejected criticism of the investigation, prosecution and conviction of the five for the rape of 28-year-old jogger, Patricia Meili — and particularly took issue with the portrayal of the black men as victims of a racist system.

As an African American, he said, the allegations of racism cut particularly deep.  Asked if he has been accused of being a race-traitor he said, ‘Oh yes and worse.’ Yet all he wanted to do as an officer was, he said, ‘serve his community.’...........To Read More....

The 3 Biggest Lies About the Central Park Five

A new Netflix series perpetuates the myths.

The new Netflix series, This Is How They See Us, perpetuates the myth, which began circulating about 17 years ago, that the so-called “Central Park Five” (CP5) are innocent of the notoriously brutal attack on “the Central Park Jogger,” Trisha Meili, that occurred in 1989.

The CP5 have now entered the martyrology of the Racism-Industrial-Complex (RIC).

This is How They See Us is racial fantasy and ideological propaganda designed to strengthen the RIC’s narrative of choice, the politically-advantageous fairy tale of unrelenting White Racism and Black Suffering.  

And when that narrative can be spun to score points against Donald Trump, it’s that much juicier.
That the CP5 are innocent victims of a rabidly racist New York Police Department is a Gargantuan Lie. Another lie, one that, because it is minor relative to the others, we can put out to pasture immediately. It is the lie that Donald Trump called for the execution of these innocent black “children” in the wake of the Central Park attack. In response to the lawlessness then engulfing the city, a barbarism epitomized by the CP5 and their roving band of acquaintances who hurt Trisha Meili and others in the park that eventful night, Trump did in fact take out two full-page ads calling for the return to New York of the death penalty. He also called for the return of the police.

Far from being deserving of criticism, New Yorker Trump acted laudably, for he proved himself to be a rarity among his social class in using his resources in money and influence to give expression to the outrage and hurt felt by countless numbers of Americans, both in New York and beyond.

Within the bigger picture, however, the use to which the liars of the RIC are now deploying Trump’s ad from 30 years ago is a trivial detail. To prevent them from indoctrinating a new generation into their invidious species of historical revisionism, we need to expose this evil for what it is. And it is best to do so by exposing the three biggest lies about the case:

Filmmaker Ava DuVernay’s new Netflix series, When They See Us, is being billed as an important exposé of the American criminal-justice system's racist underbelly. As a review in the Daily Beast explains, it is the “riveting” story of how that system coerced and intimidated five innocent “teenage boys of color” into confessing to the highly publicized “rape and vicious assault of Trisha Meili, a white investment banker,” in New York's Central Park on April 19, 1989. We are told that the boys — Kharey Wise, Antron McCray, Yusef Salaam, Kevin Richardson, and Raymond Santana — tragically had “their youth snatched from them” by the false convictions and the subsequent prison sentences that they served.

In a similar vein, a review in The Root lauds DuVernay for her success in “humanizing” these same “innocent young black and brown” victims of institutionalized “abuse, mistreatment and manipulation.”

David Ewoldsen, a professor of media and information at Michigan State University, says that When They See Us “is about one of the great injustices in modern American history” against “five teenagers of color.” And a New York Times headline depicts DuVernay's series as “The True Story of How a City in Fear Brutalized the Central Park Five.”
