Republicans on Trump Tax Returns: Democrats ‘May Regret It Sooner Than They Think’

Joel B. Pollak

Republicans in the minority on the U.S. House Ways and Means Committee declared Friday that there had been “no legitimate legislative purpose” for the Democratic majority to release Donald Trump’s tax returns.

It was the first time Congress had ever obtained and released the federal tax returns of a private individual. Democrats claimed that they needed the returns as they considered future tax legislation. But the former president argued in court — to no avail — that Democrats were overstepping the separation of powers.

On Friday, the committee released six years of Trump’s returns, from 2015 through 2020. While they revealed little that was noteworthy, other than some debatable deductions, Republicans warned that Democrats had set a dangerous precedent that would allow Congress to abuse its power to punish any political opponents.

In a separate, 17-page minority report, the dissenting Republican minority pointed out that Democrats admitted they had no legislative purpose for releasing Trump’s taxes............To Read More....

The absurdity of the NY AG’s investigation of Trump’s valuations of his properties

August 11, 2022 By Jack Hellner

The NY AG, Federal Justice Department and other Democrats have been targeting Trump in search of a crime. The NY AG is accusing Trump of inflating his net worth and value of properties. If everyone who thought that they and their net worth and properties were worth more than they are were guilty of fraud, the Jails would be very crowded. If Trump committed fraud the banks would have destroyed him.  Banks don’t just take the word of someone who comes in for a loan. They are required to get financial statements, tax returns, and appraisals before they make loans of all sizes, let alone the amounts the Trump Organization borrowed.

I was a financial regulator for three years and have been a CPA for a group of banks for over 28 years. The regulators would destroy us if we made loans based on the word of borrowers instead of deep analysis.  Now the media and other Democrats will accuse Trump of being guilty because he pleaded the Fifth, as is his right.  He is correct to do that since the Grand jury would probably have no expertise in financial and tax matters. ..............The absurdity of the NY AG’s investigation of Trump’s valuations of his properties ..

The Power To Subpoena a President's Tax Returns Is the Power to Destroy

Editorial of The New York Sun | October 22, 2019

What a cornucopia of constitutional questions will be opened up in federal appeals court at New York tomorrow. That's when President Trump will get the first hearing in his appeal of a ruling that his tax returns must be handed over in a criminal probe being pursued by the district attorney of New York County. The case is so hot -- such a teaching moment -- that it's going to be aired on C-Span.

Pull up a chair, we say. That’s certainly what we’re going to do. Particularly because the liberals are laughing at the president and carrying on about how no one is above the law. The problem there is that the law — the Constitution is a law, after all — doles out a number of immunities. Like the fact that members of congress are privileged from arrest when they are traveling to or from a sitting of the legislature.............. Continue Reading

NJ Senate Approves Bill That Would Keep Trump Off State’s 2020 Ballot If He Doesn’t Release His Tax Returns

By Melanie Arter | February 22, 2019

The New Jersey Senate approved a bill Thursday that would exclude presidential candidates from the state’s 2020 ballot unless they release their tax returns, the New York Post reports.  The move appears to be aimed at keeping President Donald Trump off the state’s ballot, because he has refused to release his tax returns because of an ongoing audit.........To Read More....

My Take - The states have a lot of power on how elections are run in their states, but I have serious misgivings this can be legal. If it passed the NJ legislature and is signed by the Governor this will go to the Supreme Court.  I don't know what kind of federal funding NJ gets, but it should be zero for it's corruption.
