Israel is awash in colors

LGBT rights, environmental activism, being indigenous, and solving water scarcity – these have all been used to lambaste the Jewish state

I have become pretty immune to the depths that anti-Israel activists can sink in defaming anything related to Jews or Israel. But even so, I had to do a double-take when I read last week what anti-Israel activists were saying when Israeli actress Gal Gadot was announced as getting the title role in the upcoming film Cleopatra.  Essentially, as a privileged Israeli, she and Israel itself were accused of whitewashing, disrespecting historical accuracy by having someone white, Jewish, and Israeli portray an Egyptian queen.

From a quick Internet search, not just whitewashing but interest in all types of Israel’s dirty laundry is very high, especially as relates to colors.

The lone Jewish state is accused of a variety of rainbow-based washing crimes, including:

Pinkwashing, Greenwashing, Redwashing, Bluewashing, Purplewashing, Yellowwashing, Blackwashing, Brownwashing

For those of you not in the know, X-washing is defined as presenting oneself as progressive and concerned about social equality and justice in order to use this perception for public relations or economic gain.

Many of these terms seem to be invented as a means for denigrating Israel exclusively, as no other countries are targeted by such accusations.

So, we are meant to understand that the State of Israel, a country regularly chastised for not being PR-savvy, is nonetheless guilty of the following cleverness in how it presents itself to the world:

• Pinkwashing

Exploiting LGBT rights (Israel is an LGBT oasis in the Middle East) to project a progressive image while concealing Israel’s occupation oppressing Palestinians

• Greenwashing

Pretending to be environmentally friendly in order to deflect attention from Israeli environmental abuses of Palestinians

• Purplewashing

Focusing on Israel’s empowerment of Jewish, Christian, and Muslim women, thus drawing attention away from its negative behavior towards Palestinian women

• (Red/Yellow/Black/Brown) washing

Using different ethnicities (Red=Native American Indians, Yellow=Asian, Black = Ethiopian Jewish and/or African, Brown = Arab) to promote Jewish indigenous ties to Israel and/or positive interactions with different nationalities at the expense of the Palestinians

• Bluewashing

Focusing on technical solutions to water scarcity and emphasizing Israel’s conservational approaches to wastewater and agricultural practices, while ignoring Palestinians water rights (Why blue, you might ask…  Well, I think the main reason is that this was one of the few colors still not used in the tie-dyed accusations towards Israel.  But it is also meant to be relevant because the UN flag is blue, and this is where Israel’s water solutions are sometimes presented.)

The pattern of these washing accusations by anti-Israel groups is ridiculously obvious. Never recognize a positive quality of Israel, accuse Israel of hostile behaviors towards Palestinians no matter what, and always ignore negative elements of Palestinian society. It is just one more example of double-standards emanating from the anti-Israel crowd.

And for those of you wondering if maybe anti-Israel activists are lax in their condemnations or are simply creativity challenged in restricting themselves to color-based washing, the answer is a resounding no.

For instance, here are additional accusations:

• Vegan Washing

Israel is vegan friendly and is believed to have the biggest vegan population in the world. There are claims that the Israeli vegan movement contains an element of striving for justice and against oppression. Israel highlights this issue in order to cover up the damage it is causing to vegetation and veganism of Palestinians.

• Dog Washing

Tel Aviv has one of the highest percentages of dogs per capita of any large city in the world.  Israel portrays this love of animals to replace the image of harm it is doing to pets of Palestinians.

• Book Washing

Israelis are known to read a great deal of books compared to people from other countries.  Publicizing this causes people to overlook the abuses that Israel regularly delivers to Palestinian book readers and publishing companies.

• Food Washing

Israel claims to be the originator of hummus and falafel, thus doing injustice to the true Arabic creators of these Mid-Eastern delicacies

Actually, I admit that I made up the last three examples above; I am simply taking an educated guess on what to expect in the coming months.

Let’s keep in mind the objectives of Israel’s vocal detractors before getting too concerned by the colorful labels they hurl.

RED LEVEL, AL, USA, December 15, 2020 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Two years ago, Airbnb announced that they would stop listing certain Jewish-owned properties, a blatant case of antisemitism.

Airbnb’s boycott of Jewish-owned properties in the historic land of Israel violated US federal and state laws, and after lawsuits were filed, and other actions threatened against Airbnb, the company ultimately rescinded their boycott of Jewish-owned businesses.

Airbnb’s discriminatory actions indicated that they are not averse to such steps, and there is a risk that they may re-institute such a boycott in the future.

Airbnb’s Registration Statement filed with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) ahead of the IPO made no mention of the fact that Airbnb has a record of elevating third-party stakeholder interests over shareholder expectations of profit, an omission that Zachor Legal Institute identified as a likely violation of SEC rules requiring that registrants provide investors with all relevant material facts. In addition to Airbnb’s failure to discuss its propensity for violating established Delaware law on shareholder wealth maximization, Airbnb utterly failed to discuss the financial impact of losing tax benefits as a result of engaging in unsanctioned boycotts.

Among Zachor Legal Institute’s areas of focus is confronting discriminatory boycotts that have been promoted by a group known as the Boycott, Divest and Sanction (“BDS”) movement. The BDS movement has deep and extensive ties to designated foreign terrorist organizations, including Hamas and the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine and has infiltrated a number of organizations to spread a discriminatory agenda aimed at Jews and companies that do business with and in Israel.

To spread its unlawful boycott, the BDS movement (including through its allies at the United Nations) has published a blacklist of Israeli companies that it targets for boycotts. To cloak its illicit activities with a patina of legitimacy, BDS movement operatives have lobbied a number of corporate social responsibility (“CSR”) organizations and coerced them into including Jewish-owned companies on their blacklists for no reason other than the fact that the companies operate in Israel or have pro-Israel individuals in management.

Boycotts of Israel are prohibited under federal law in the United States. Companies that engage in prohibited boycotts can be subjected to prosecution and can also lose tax benefits. Furthermore, approximately half of all states in the United States have enacted laws that prohibit those states from entering into contracts with, or investing in, any company that participates in boycotts against Israel.

Airbnb’s policy was blatantly antisemitic, as it banned Jewish property owners from participating in its rental programs while allowing non-Jewish property owners in the same area to list properties. In addition, although there are more than 100 disputed territories designated by the UN, Airbnb chose to target only Israel.

As a consequence of Airbnb’s adoption of the BDS movement’s unlawful discriminatory boycotts of Jews, Airbnb was sued in a number of American courts as well as in Israel and was reported to federal authorities. Ultimately, Airbnb rescinded its discriminatory boycott of Jews and, for doing this, was placed on the UN blacklist. At this point, it is not known whether Airbnb will resume boycotting Jewish property owners in exchange for being removed from the UN blacklist, which makes full disclosure of the issue imperative. There is every reason to believe that antisemitic activists will resume pressuring Airbnb when they see that Airbnb’s securities are publicly traded."

In the ongoing riots and social unrest, BLM has regularly partnered with Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) organizations with ties to designated terrorist organizations, including Hamas, the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine and Palestine Islamic Jihad. From the use of improvised weapons and the targeting of the most vulnerable members of society to the resurrection of hoary Marxist agitprop, BLM is rapidly incorporating the international terror playbook for its U.S. insurrection.

This has resulted in an environment where Jewish students who seek to assert their shared ethnicity as the indigenous people of the modern State of Israel (also known as Zionism) have been intimidated into silence and acceptance of blood libels. They are prevented from exercising their right to express their identities and participate fully and equally in campus life.
