Ereyesterday (01/31), I spoke at a meeting on Capitol Hill on Terrorism in the Balkans.  Representatives from 13 European countries were present, together with several US Congressmen and Senators.  The presentations were focused on the threat of various Islamofascist groups such as ISIS and Iqwan (Moslem Brotherhood), plus lone wolf Salafis.
I decided to focus on something else..........There is another form of terrorism that I would like to address – and that is the purposeful undermining of democratic institutions within targeted countries, the destruction of a country’s culture and moral values, accomplished through bribery and corruption of a targeted country’s politicians, academia, and media. This form of terrorism is more dangerously insidious than its Islamic counterpart – for it subverts a country’s own people to become traitors to themselves, to their own land, to their own culture, to their own values...........

Soros and his Open Society Foundations have become a terrorist threat to many if not most of the countries represented here, including my own country, the United States.  Such a threat that his NGOs are being ejected from Hungary – Soros’ native country.  Such a threat that the government of Macedonia considers “de-Soros-ization” a top priority.  Such a threat that he has seized de facto control of the government of Albania.  Such a threat that he funds hundreds of Radical Left organizations in America, many of which promote and engage in organized public violence, such as Black Lives Matter......To Read More....

Some articles on his site are free and others require a subscription.  Either way, the work is insightful and presented in a common sense manner.  The world isn’t as it appears and it certainly isn’t as the media makes it appear.  One the things that always come to the fore when reading his work is – “everything is the basics”.  If the actions of people defy basic realities they are ultimately going to fail….no matter what the spin may be from their acolytes in the media.  The concern is how much damage they will do before they are finished.  RK

We're going to go global before we get to the ever-unfolding disaster of Zero - and we'll start with a headline this morning that split my face in half with a smile: Gazprom Biggest Loser As Shale Gas Upends World Markets.

The Russians are fracked. The news has been full of Putin the Punk pushing his dinky weight around - trying to send combat helicopters to Syria (only to be cleverly blocked by Britain), backing Iran getting nukes (as long as the nukes are "peaceful"), extorting Europe with sky-high gas prices.

Gazprom, the Russkie oil monopoly, is Putin's cash cow. Yet while its sales are collapsing due to US and Chinese fracking, Gazprom continues "to take a ‘head in the sands' position on shale gas," the story above reports. Russia doesn't have the technology, the expertise, nor legal protection for investors to frack in Siberia at anywhere near a competitive extraction cost.

Goodnight, Gazprom. That's good news for the world. And good news for the US is Zero's desperation this week.

Yesterday (6/21), John Boehner gave a press conference in which he denounced Zero's invoking Executive Privilege to prevent Congress from access to Fast & Furious documents as "an admission that White House officials were involved in decisions that misled the Congress and have covered up the truth." "What," he asked, "is the Obama Administration hiding in Fast & Furious?"

It's not just that the Dems are going to lose the White House in November. Control of the Oval Office regularly flips back and forth between them and the Pubs over the years.

It's not just that the Dems are going to lose big ("rrreally big, rrreally big" as Ed Sullivan would say) in November. Zero will be lucky to carry 10 states in a Romney Landslide, while the Pubs will take the Senate and gain seats in the House. Yet the Reagan Landslides of 1980/1984 were far greater than anything Romney can hope for - and the Dems were back in the White House saddle four years after the Gipper.

No, what is going on is much - as in much - bigger than mere electoral loss. What the Dems are going to lose in November is about as big as it gets. They are going to lose their raison d'être - their "reason to be," the basic justification for their existence.

This is why they are panicking, why most everything they do now is doltish, for panic makes you stupid. This is why Zero is making moves of ever-increasing desperation - Amnesty EO's, Executive Privilege merely to protect his corrupt AG. This is why the Moonbat Media is in a state of foaming hysteria. There must be something really, really bad in the documents his attorney general is trying to conceal from Congress. If not, President Barack Hussein Obama has lost his mind.

With the honorable exceptions of Sharyl Atkisson of CBS and Richard Serrano of the Los Angeles Times, the major media have ignored for more than a year one of the biggest scandals in American history. Now that the president has claimed executive privilege, they can ignore it no longer.

Since there's been so little reporting of it, most Americans are learning of the scandal for the first time. Here's a recap:

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) let more than 2,000 deadly weapons -- including .50 caliber Barrett sniper rifles -- "walk" across the border to Mexican drug cartels in an operation known by the code name "Fast and Furious." Another code name for the operation was "Gunwalker."

Its purpose, Justice said, was to trace the guns from the straw buyers to cartel bigwigs, so they could be arrested. This wasn't true, three ATF whistleblowers told the House Oversight Committee last July, because no effort was made to trace the guns once they crossed the border, and Mexican authorities hadn't been informed of the operation. The clearest indication yet he thinks of himself more as the Emperor Barack I than as the president of a constitutional republic came last week (6/15) when Mr. Obama declared he would no longer enforce immigration law for illegals under age 30.

The president does not have the right to decide which laws he'll enforce and which he'll ignore, Mr. Obama acknowledged when he spoke at a Univision forum in March of last year.

"The notion that I can just suspend deportations through executive order, that's just not the case," Mr. Obama said then. "There are laws on the books that Congress has passed... The executive branch's job is to enforce and implement those laws."

But desperate people do desperate things. Mr. Obama's imperial decree came a day after his much ballyhooed speech on the economy bombed, two weeks after Republican Gov. Scott Walker won a smashing victory in the recall election in Wisconsin.

By arrogating to himself a power the Constitution gave to Congress, Mr. Obama hopes to accomplish three things: Read more ...

Barack Hussein Obama has been loudly proclaiming that he is not responsible as president for the big increase in spending because it was already "baked in the cake." He could have been more accurate by noting that under the Constitution, Congress is responsible for spending.

In fact, Congress -- both Democrats and Republicans -- has been by nearly unanimous votes rejecting his proposed budgets, but only because they were not willing to spend as much as he was.

As can be seen in the table below, the big surge in spending began after the Democrats took control of Congress in the 2006 election. Members of the new Congress took office in January 2007, when the fiscal year was already a quarter complete. The first budget the new Congress was responsible for was the 2008 budget.

When Mr. Obama was a member of Congress, he voted for the big increases in spending. He also was the one who proposed, and got, a nearly trillion-dollar increase in spending as part of his "stimulus" program in early 2009 after he took office as president. So, for the president to argue that he is not at all responsible for the big increase in spending is, to put it politely, a bit much. Read more ...

Last week in Part 1 of this series, The Dynamics of Crude, we discussed refineries and products. Now we move to Logistics of Crude Oil and Refinery Products.

Although Ayn Rand's 1957 novel "Atlas Shrugged" portrayed rail as important, especially for Wyatt's Refinery, rail was on its way out by the end of WWII. Today's major transportation methods are via pipeline and water (barge & ship). The reason is quite simple: loading and receiving infrastructure.

I have read lots of supposedly learned pundits wailing away how Warren Buffett and BNSF Railroad are going transport all that Canadian crude oil when Obama announced that he was blocking the Keystone XL's construction. This is impossibly dumb -so dumb that Jack Wheeler is convinced it isn't dumb at all, that it's a crony capitalist payoff to Buffett for his supporting Zero. Those of us over about 30 can remember the days before America was a Nanny State.

Some friends of ours just got back from a mission trip to Tijuana, Mexico. They brought their kids to a park there to play, and saw all the equipment that is no longer allowed on American playgrounds - teeter totters, tire swings, carousels. That equipment had been given or sold to Mexico because it is now deemed to be too dangerous for use by kids in America (or at least in California).

There's a pattern here that extends deep into our behavior and our psyches, and I don't like what I see.

Disneyland is a safe and wonderful place. I like Disneyland. I'm always impressed with the spirit and charm that is created there. But at Disneyland you can go on the scariest ride - you can go on it many times in a row - and you won't get that same feeling of true adventure.

It's like comparing Disneyland's Jungle River Cruise with one of Jack Wheeler's expeditions to Africa. The former is the world we are making for ourselves. Yes, life is too precious to take stupid risks - but life is also too precious to take no risks at all. Read more ...

I get these regularly and even without the full daily report Wheeler’s insights are interesting. 1. The best international news is the impending death of a monster. It's from a surprising source - who knew Dan Rather was still functioning? He's 80 now and has a news show on a small cable channel called HDNet. On Wednesday (5/30), he reported that Hugo Chavez was in "the end stage" of metastatic rhabdomyosarcoma. This is an especially virulent cancer that once it metastasizes (spreads throughout the body) is quickly fatal. Chavez's government has been quite secretive about what type of cancer he has, refusing to disclose any details. If Rather's source is accurate, Chavez may indeed be dead within a month or two. And then there will be blood. Castro will see to that...

2. More enjoyable int'l news: Iran has been Flamed. On Monday (5/28), the discovery of a massive new computer virus dubbed Flame was announced. Like Stuxnet only 100 times bigger (20GB vs. 200KB), it targets computers in Iran - and Palestinian Arab computers in Israel's so-called West Bank. Flame is not just copying massive amounts of Iranian data, it's wiping out entire hard drives.

3. How many gas stations do you pass by on an average day? For most folks it's several. Dozens every week, a couple of hundred or more every month. Every one of them throughout America is loudly displaying a campaign ad against President Zero. Look at the next gas station you drive by and you'll see the campaign ad shouting at you - wordlessly, for the ad consists only of numbers. It's the price per gallon.

4. President Barack Hussein Obama is racing down the trail blazed by Sen. George McGovern, who in 1972 was buried by the largest popular vote landslide in American history. (President Lyndon Johnson in 1964 won a slightly higher percentage of the popular vote than Richard Nixon did in 1972 -- 61.1 to 60.7 -- but LBJ's margin over Sen. Barry Goldwater was smaller, because fewer voted for minor party candidates that year.)  Sen. McGovern was too far to the left, swing voters thought, and not very competent -- an image reinforced by the shambles his supporters made of the Democrat national convention. Swing voters are forming the same opinion about President Obama, who sometimes seems as if he's deliberately trying to dismantle the coalition that elected him in 2008. 5. In a Gallup poll May 23, more disapproved of Vice President Joe Biden (45 percent) than approved (42 percent.) In 12 swing states, Slow Joe was underwater 40-52, intensifying speculation President Barack Hussein Obama may dump him for Secretary of State Hillary Clinton…..But even if Slow Joe continues to commit a gaffe a week, I doubt he’d hurt Mr. Obama much, because people vote on the basis of what they think of the presidential candidates. So its unlikely any of the aforementioned Republicans would gain for Mr. Romney many votes he wouldn’t otherwise have had. There’s one guy who could matter more, thinks former National Security Council staffer Paul Miller. When Gallup last polled on him in April, 2011, Americans rated Gen. David Petraeus favorably, 61 percent to 7 percent. That poll may have been what prompted President Obama to make Gen. Petraeus CIA Director.

6. The latest news from the EU Crisis Front: Southern Europe's debtor states must pledge their gold reserves and national treasure as collateral under a €2.3 trillion stabilization plan gaining momentum in Germany.

The German scheme -- known as the European Redemption Pact -- offers a form of "Eurobonds Lite" that can be squared with the German constitution and breaks the political logjam. It is a highly creative way out of the debt crisis, but is not a soft option for Italy, Spain, Portugal, and other states in trouble. The plan is drafted by the German Council of Economic Experts and inspired by Alexander Hamilton's Sinking Fund in the United States -- created in 1790 to clean up the morass of debts left by the Revolutionary War. Flourishing Virginia was comparable to Germany today. Germany would have a lockhold over the fund, able to enforce discipline. Each state would have to pledge 20% of their debt as collateral. "The assets could be taken from the country's currency and gold reserves. The collateral nominated would only be used in the event that a country does not meet its payment obligations," said the proposal.

This demand could enflame opinion in Italy and Portugal. Both states have kept their bullion, resisting the rush to sell by Britain and others. Italy has 2,451 tons of gold, valued at €98bn in March.

7. Many in the political class, including President Obama and many members of Congress, have an interest in confusing, rather than enlightening, the public. The effort to misinform about the growth in spending and the impact of government spending on job creation reached a new level last week when the president claimed he was the most restrained spender since President Eisenhower and that spending was up only a little more than 1 percent (over what?). A quick review of economic policy for the past 30 years, as can be seen in a glance at the table below, provides evidence that big increases in government spending do not create jobs but, in fact, do the opposite. The correct way to measure the impact of government spending is not to look at the nominal numbers, which include population and economic growth and inflation, but rather as a percentage of GDP (national output).
