Punishing the mayor of Oakland

Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf is in a war with ICE as she attempts to thwart the efforts of the federal government to detain and deport criminal aliens from her "sanctuary city" community. Two weeks ago she revealed to the public information she had received indicating ICE agents planned to sweep through Oakland and remove those illegal felons from the community. As a result, while 150 criminals were detained an estimated 800 mostly violent felons escaped into the community, allowing the mayor to grandstand. Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf Should Be Prosecuted

Realizing that in the era of crime monitor Jeff Sessions, who plays attorney general on TV, no crime by a public official gets prosecuted for anything, one can only hope that for the safety of the people of Oakland that its mayor, one Libby Schaaf, is arrested and prosecuted for harboring criminal illegal aliens in her city.    Mayor Schaaf recently acted as the functional equivalent of a gang lookout, shouting “ICE!” upon learning of a raid on criminal illegal aliens in her city.............“Earlier today, I learned from multiple credible sources that the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is preparing to conduct an operation in the Bay Area, including Oakland, starting as soon as within the next 24 hours,” she said, according to the San Francisco Chronicle on Saturday. “As Mayor of Oakland, I am sharing this information publicly not to panic our residents but to protect them.”............So explain to us again, Mayor Schaaf, how you are protecting the residents of Oakland by harboring criminal fugitives like Armando Nuñez-Salgado? ............Read more

DOJ Pursuing Charges of Obstruction Against Leftwing Mayor?

The Department of Justice is considering whether or not to pursue obstruction of justice charges for Oakland mayor Libby Schaaf after she warned illegal immigrants of an upcoming ICE raid.
Schaaf, a Democrat – to nobody’s surprise – said earlier this year that she was willing to go to jail in order to protect her city’s sanctuary city policies.  “We’re very clear that our values are to protect all of our residents regardless of where we come from,” she said. “We want to protect families, not tear them apart.”  Over the weekend, Schaaf issued a warning to illegals on Twitter, tipping them off to a pending raid in her city........To Read More......

The rule of law under fire

Many years ago, my father explained why we left Cuba and moved to the U.S. It sounds like a fairy tale but it's true. It was not about economics or looking for a job. My father could have found a job in the new Cuban Central Bank and enjoyed some bureaucratic privileges. We left Cuba because he was thinking about his kids, not himself. Or, social benefits that we would qualify for in the U.S.

In fact, my father did not know what Social Security was until he saw a deduction on his first paycheck. Welfare? All we ever got was used furniture and winter coats. They were given to us by a generous church. We came here because my late father said that in the U.S. laws would be respected by all, or what we often to refer to as the rule of law.

My good guess is that my late father would be concerned about what we've just seen in Oakland -- a mayor who protects criminals. This is an amazing story that sounds a lot more like a Latin American country than the U.S.:...........Read more

My Take - It's clear this mayor committed a crime.  I'm still wondering why she hasn't been charged with a crime? At some point the federal government is going to have to arrest public officials in California over this immigration issue.  Either they're breaking federal law or they're not. 

My adivce to federal officials lamenting this action. 

If they are then prosecute them.  If they're not, then shut up.  But if they are  -  and they are - don't shoot off your mouth and then fail to enforce the very laws you say they're breaking. 

According to this Townhall article:  "Schaaf has defended her decision to tip off illegals in the area, suggesting it was noble and the "right thing" to do. She has no regrets.  The DOJ is considering what to do with Schaaf, currently reviewing whether the mayor broke any laws. They do know, however, that she'd be willing to go to jail."

She also claims thay have a "legal right" to be a sanctuary city.  That's blatant nonsense!  The federal government has sole jurisdiction over migration, and any efforts to undermine that authority is a crime.  There are no  such thing as sanctuary cities or states in law.  They can call themseles anything they like, but that doens't make it legal.

I think they need to stop 'considering' and start doing to help her attain the martyrdom she seems to desire so badly, and send her to jail.  How much do you want to bet her "willingness" will end once that ball starts rolling over her.
