The Left’s Climate Inquisition’s New Target

Hans von Spakovsky

In a truly outrageous abuse of his authority and a misuse of the law, the attorney general of the U.S. Virgin Islands, Claude E. Walker, has served a subpoena on the Competitive Enterprise Institute (CEI) demanding documents related to CEI’s research on global “climate change.” Walker is part of a network of state “AGs United for Clean Power” who have formed a grand inquisition to go after those they claim have lied about climate change—which is a contentious and unproven scientific theory.

The Competitive Enterprise Institute is a non-profit public policy institute (like the Heritage Foundation) that researches and publishes studies and reports on issues it believes are “essential for entrepreneurship, innovation, and prosperity to flourish.” It is dedicated to the principles of “limited government, free enterprise, and individual liberty.” CEI is well-known for its high-quality, objective research on energy and climate issues, which clearly has made it a target of Inquisitor Walker.....To Read More

My Take - Well, two things. First I would actually like to see this go forward - under one proviso though - so long as everyone involved in the climate debate is a party to it, like Michael Mann and the East Anglia e-mail crowd, and force them all to turn over all their e-mails and all the "dirty laundry" (Mann's term) they've been hiding all these years. But that won't happen because this isn't a search for truth - this is a blatant witch hunt in promotion of an agenda that's be biggest fraud ever dumped on the world by mankind - with the High Priest of the Church of the Warming Globe, Al Gore, promoting it! Al Gore being involved should be enough to make rational people squeamish and realize just how fraudulent this is. When this is all said and done - I also hope all these Attorneys General will be sued for prosecutorial misconduct, because they've clearly exceeded their legislative authority.

This has become a growing trend amongst Democratic AG's, including the fraudulent claims in Texas against Tom DeLay, which no matter the prostestations by the Democrats- this was a politically motivated action. The Walker John Doe investigaton were probably the worst abuse of prosecutorial misconduct I've seen, reminicent of a communist regime rather than a society governed by the Constitution.

And this isn't just a political scandal.  Michael Nifong used his office to persecute Duke University lacrosse players he knew were innocent for political gain.   Then there are the SLAP suits by Michael Mann against Tim Ball in Canada, where he lost because he refused to turn over his "dirty laundry", and his SLAP suit against Mark Steyn is probably it's fifth year because now Mann is working to prevent it going to trial.

Lawsuits are like riding a tiger.  You can't just get off and say "I was only kidding"!
