NBA star: Chicago needs tougher gun laws
Dwyane Wade has lashed out against his hometown of Chicago’s gun laws, calling them weak and saying he’s already urged city officials to enact changes to help both citizens and police. Wade also said his children are afraid of police officers the same way that he was when he was growing up, suggested that prison systems need to do more in rehabilitating inmates, and said that Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump tweeting about the murder of his cousin last week left him with “a bad taste” in his mouth.
Wade spoke out to ABC News in an interview that aired Friday, one day before the funeral for his cousin Nykea Aldridge — a mother of four who was shot and killed on a Chicago street last week.
“For our family, it was very tough,” Wade said. “The headlines alone — mother walking down the street, registering her kids in school, a mother of four gets murdered — it’s tough to deal with.”......To Read More.....
My Take - Another good reason to ignore the views of professional athletes and other celebrity types. Chicago has some of the toughest gun laws in the nation and yet "Chicago gun violence has skyrocketed - in spite of their strict gun laws", and this problem is so serious in" Chicago, the gun control capital, it's been named the "Murder Capital of US" and New York is the runner up" - both with strict gun control laws. What about the rest of the world? Apparently all those strict gun control laws in Germany - far stricter than anything we have here - was incapable of stooping this mass shooting.
One can sympathize with anyone who's lost family members or suffered gun violence, but is the suffering worse than when a loved one is being beaten to death or stabbed? His failure isn't his desire to see less violence and suffering, his failure is he's mouthing all the same stupid ideas that's been abject failures everywhere in the world it's been tried. The fact is more guns means less gun violence, because when honest citizens are armed the scum doing crimes become afraid and crime overall drops.
In Chicago "up to 80 percent of Chicago murders and non-fatal shootings are gang- related, primarily young black and Hispanic men killed by other black and Hispanic men. Would tightening gun laws even more, or “requiring” background checks, change these conditions?" The reality is everyone of the cities with high murder rates are run by liberal Democrats, and a major part of the problem is the black community has a staggering rate of illegitimacy, to the tune of up to 75%. Why isn't he addressing that?
This isn't a gun problem - it's a cultural problem. When we abandoned the idea this nation was formed with Judaic/Christian values and principles as the underlying moral foundation and replaced it with socialism we doomed ourselves.
