Professor Youm — more than his American-born colleagues at the University of Oregon — truly understands American Privilege
Prof beat up for anti-government views fights Bias Response Team Jennifer Kabbany - Fix Editor
If you’ve been forced into military service and beaten up for anti-government views, you know all too well the extreme preciousness of freedom of speech, thought and expression. That’s why the efforts by Kyu Ho Youm, a naturalized U.S. citizen and currently the Jonathan Marshall First Amendment Chair professor at the University of Oregon School of Journalism and Communication, that criticize and call for scrutiny on his university’s now infamous Bias Response Team must be lauded and shouted from the rooftops......
Bisexual, Latino professor chased out — for being too conservative College Fix Staff
Even when one can check off a few “minority” or “marginalized” boxes, if they have their own opinions that run afoul of the party line, they’re the enemy. Case in point: Professor Robert Lopez of California State University Northridge, who has been harassed and vilified by students and peers to the point that he can’t stand his work environment anymore and he is leaving his position as an English professor — and the safety of tenure with it. That Lopez is bisexual and a Latino — and the only male Latino teaching in the English department — means nothing to the campus Brownshirts who have accused of him being a CIA operative, an evil conservative, and much more......
Profs who made anti-Republican statements given pay raises Brendan Clarey - Hillsdale College
What happens to a professor who makes national headlines for bashing Republicans? In the case of two Michigan scholars, they keep teaching – and get pay raises. Professor Susan Douglas of the University of Michigan, who famously wrote an op-ed titled “I hate Republicans,” and Professor William Penn at Michigan State, who said Republicans “raped this country,” continue to teach students and have enjoyed pay raises in recent years. Penn, an award-winning English teacher, had made derogatory comments about Republicans during the first day of class in the fall of 2013. A student recording captured Penn saying: “If you go to the Republican convention in Florida, you see all of the old Republicans with the dead skin cells washing off them.” He continued his tirade: “They are cheap. They don’t want to pay taxes because they have already raped this country and gotten everything out of it they possibly could.”......
Prof gets death threats for anti-transgender comments Greg Piper - Associate Editor
Silicon Valley’s congresswoman used her bully pulpit to sic a horde of narrow-minded keyboard warriors on a law professor who knows far more about the law than any of them. Unfortunately for the University of San Diego’s Gail Heriot, she does not have the government protection that Democratic Rep. Zoe Lofgren can call upon at any time if she feels threatened. As my colleague Jenn Kabbany noted last week, Lofgren called Heriot an “intolerant bigot” after the congresswoman read an out-of-context snippet from Heriot’s testimony. The occasion was a House Judiciary hearing on “executive overreach,” and Heriot’s testimony focused on the Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights and its creative interpretation of Title IX.......
Harvard Law profs conspired with campus race protesters Dave Huber - Assistant Editor
The saga of Harvard Law School’s race protesters continues to snowball with interest. Not only did they take over the Caspersen Student Center, a “major thoroughfare” on the campus in order to create one of those “safe spaces” college students seem to have an affinity for these days, they also tore down flyers critical of their little confab claiming such had to be approved by them first. They journeyed over to Brandeis University to interrupt a ceremony honoring their own Law School dean, and perhaps worst of all, allegedly conspired to have to the FBI investigate their critics. Now, evidence has come to light showing that several professors at the school had worked closely with the protesters. The insurgent blog Royall Asses has obtained notes from a Dec. 5 meeting detailing strategies worked with Harvard Law professors Kenneth W. Mack, Christine A. Desan, and Jon D. Hanson. There was also a meeting nine days later attended by at least fifteen Harvard faculty members........
