Fifteen years after the 9/11 attacks, there’s plenty of discussion today about Islam – much of it about catering to Muslims’ sensibilities. The terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, claimed the lives of approximately 3,000 people when al-Qaeda terrorists hijacked two airliners and flew them into the World Trade Center towers in New York City.
The first plane hit the north tower at approximately 8:45 a.m. and the second struck 18 minutes later. A third airliner was flown into the Pentagon building and a fourth plane, possibly headed for a target in Washington, D.C., crashed in Shanksville, Pennsylvania, after passengers fought the hijackers.
On the outskirts of D.C., longtime conservative activist Gary Bauer was waiting in traffic due to an automobile wreck. He saw the Pentagon become the target of an airliner-turned-missile that killed 125 people. “We did not realize at the time,” he says, “but on the morning of 9-10, we were a country in grave danger.
