The Chinese Communist Party’s handpicked “alternative” to the Dalai Lama has not succeeded in persuading the faithful of his legitimacy, a Washington Post article indicates. Gyaltsen Norbu, known as the “Chinese Panchen,” has been on a campaign around Tibet to boost his status among its native Buddhists, but despite Chinese propaganda efforts, it appears that they remain loyal to the Dalai Lama, who was forced into exile by Mao’s government in 1959.......Tibetans have been persecuted for decades by the Chinese, and the Dalai Lama has voiced their plight to the rest of the world.
