Democrats Vote Down Two Gun Control Bills Introduced by Republicans

President Obama once tweeted “If there’s even one thing we can do, if there’s just one life we can save–we’ve got an obligation to try.” This tweet was in reference to gun control, specifically the Sandy Hook shooting.

Like the President, Democrats routinely crow about doing “something” about guns, yet when they actually had the opportunity to do something Monday, Senate Democrats voted in unison against two gun control measures put forward by Republicans.

Why did the Democrats do this? It’s an easy answer. They don’t really care about gun violence–or, more specifically, they care more about political theatre than reducing gun violence.
The Democrats want a staged war in which they appear to be the underdogs fighting a monolithic Republican/NRA behemoth. They want to look like bleeding-heart warriors slugging it out for the safety of the American people. To kick off Obama’s last year in office, he signed several unconstitutional executive orders on gun control. Knowing they were very unpopular, he tried to justify his actions in a town hall meeting. His arguments were not only weak, they revealed how out of touch and dangerous this Progressive Liberal viewpoint is. A mother and rape victim expressed her concern that Obama’s actions would hinder her parental responsibility to keep her family safe.  Obama confessed, “There are always questions as to whether or not having a firearm in the home protects you from that kind of violence.” He continued, “what is also true is there’s always the possibility that that firearm in a home leads to a tragic accident,” and “you have to be pretty well trained in order to fire a weapon against somebody who is assaulting you and catches you by surprise”.....

Some of us have seen this movie before.  Over the last few years, we've seen news reports from Latin America of left-wing legislators, or the interest groups that they support, chanting and going out of control when they don't get their way.    Recently, the teachers' union in Mexico blocked the entrances to the Mexico City airport or last week a confrontation with authorities followed their attempts to close the heavily used highway to Puebla.  Let's add some members of the U.S. House to that list of legislators or activists who want their way even it means stepping on other people's rights.
The House Democrats, many literally sitting on the floor,want a vote on gun control. Unfortunately for them, the majority in the House, or the people elected by voters across the country, would rather take up other issues.....
