A cautionary
letter–and the rumored retention of a notorious union-buster–show Northeastern
is nervous about adjunct faculty organizing.
"What does a research university in Boston have in
common with the corporations Pfizer, Cablevision and IBM? They hire the same
union-buster. According to Adjunct Action, a project of the Service Employees
International Union (SEIU), Northeastern University has retained Jackson Lewis,
a law firm used by major corporations to thwart employee organizing efforts.
The AFL-CIO calls the New York-based firm 'the number one union-buster in
America.' The move could signal intensified efforts by university
administrations to defeat organizing drives among contingent faculty, which
have been gaining momentum in several cities"…To Read More…..
My Take – I’m
not quite sure why the universities are fighting this so hard, after all….aren’t
these socialist Petri dishes constantly railing against real companies that produce things society actually
needs [versus universities who are filling the world with overeducated idiots] for
fighting unions.
Here’s what’s going
to happen. Tenured professors will start
doing what they are paid to and start teaching classes again and adjuncts….will
be out of a job…..OR…..The universities will find ways to get rid of expensive
tenured professors who don’t do their job…which I believe is to teach….and they
will replace them with part time adjuncts who will be paid for part time work.
And even if they get some sort of contract that pays them more money, it will
save the university money. The main fact
is….if they go with a union there will be lower employment for someone. See…...problem solved.....since no matter what either side says it really is all about the money.
