In a breather for domestic
manufacturers of cooling
appliances, New Delhi has succeeded in conveying to the G-20 that it will
not compromise its interests on the issue of phasing out of hydrofluorocarbons
(HFCs), which are used in refrigeration.
The
recently concluded G-20 Summit
in St
Petersburg has attempted to balance India's concerns with the demands of
the US and the European Union that HFCs should be discussed under the Montreal
Protocol, the international agreement aimed at protecting the earth's ozone
layer…..To Read More…..
My Take – There are so many nuances to this story. First, I think this is a tacit acknowledgement that the Montreal Protocol is claptrap and India is going to go for the products that are now out of patent, inexpensive and readily available, which will have no impact on the ozone layer. I think other countries will follow suit.
It gets more complicated when you realize they are telling the world to stuff it and at the same time need the world's money. You may wish to review: What India gained from the St Petersburg G20 summit. One of the things I
think we can take from this is the world is facing a major financial
crash. If ‘emerging’ economies such as
India’s can’t sustain itself without outside help from countries that are massively
debt ridden already, who can?
To me this looks
like is a person whose house is eaten up with termites and about to collapse,
but instead of hiring an exterminator to fix the problem he decides to cover
the damage with a ‘real heavy’ coat of paint. Folks…..This termite scenario I just painted
actually happened….and guess what? At
some point the house was damaged beyond repair and had to be torn down before it
collapsed on its own. It also cost the
termite inspection company big time.
Take this analogy to its end.
The house is a nation's economy. The owner of the house represents the nations who keep putting on a 'coat of paint' and refuse to correctly fix their problems of over spending and taxing. The ‘termite company’
represents the nations that keep telling everyone that everything is okay and keep supplying the paint used to hide the disaster ahead facing the worldwide economy.
At some point this ‘house’
is going to collapse and it will cost these nations and their citizens big time
because I believe we will enter a period of uncontrolled violence when it
happens, and that's why the G20 people let India tell them to 'stuff it' on HFC phase outs. They don't dare let them go bankrupt! At least that's the way I see it!
