All those teachers who take pride in their “free swinging” ways can breathe a sigh of relief – Little Rock’s new “restrictive” dress code won’t go into effect until next school year.
The school district is the latest to formalize a staff
dress code policy that bans the typical things: t-shirts with inappropriate
slogans, mini-skirts and flip-flops. But an interesting requirement is taking a
breather for a year: “foundation garments.”
As in bras and underwear…….
A
union attorney for Lewis County, West Virginia teachers claimed a proposed dress code policy was a
violation of his members’ “statutory and constitutional rights” and threatened
court action. That dress code didn’t even mention “foundation garments.”
In New Hampshire, a school
board proposed banning blue jeans, sneakers,
slip-flops and tank tops. The superintendent told the board that teachers felt
such a policy was “derogatory and condescending.”.......Read more at ........
My Take - Well.....if
requiring someone (who is supposed to be an example for young impressionable
minds they are preparing for adulthood) to look and act like responsible,
mature adults is 'derogatory and condescending', perhaps they should quit and
go to work in some big time private sector job for which they qualify. An industry that would appreciate their
attitude, their manners and their style of dress - The fast food industry!
One more thing. This bit about personal choice regarding a
dress code on the job being an ‘Constitutional” issue puzzles me. That must be in the penumbra of the
Constitution. What’s the penumbra you ask? Well, that's the invisible, non-written areas of the Constitution where
Supreme Court Justices find rights that were never thought of, and were never
intended by the Founding Fathers, as a result they didn't write them down .....anywhere......... nor did they even discuss them in the Federalist Papers....that's how invisible penumbra rights are.
That’s the area that doesn’t exist in the
real world, it exists in the minds of those who have decided that the
Constitution should say what they think it should say irrespective of the fact
there is no historical foundation to justify their views whatsoever.
That way they can dream up rights such as abortion as they please.
Another good reason to amend the Constitution to limit the terms of offices for Supreme Court Justices and set up a procedure to overturn these “penumbra” rights only they can see.
