Russian Deputy Finance Minister Sergei Storchak said on Jan. 18 that Russia is considering not making any more loans to foreign governments during the current economic crisis, according to Russia's Interfax news agency. Storchak said, "The budget is strained, more than strained. I think we are in a situation where we are forced to take a break from issuing new loans." It is not quite clear how this will affect loans that the Russian government has promised but not yet closed. In particular, Russia has committed to a $5 billion loan to Iran, which is in the process of closing. Storchak said, "We have assumed large obligations. And not to respect obligations on the issued loans is even more shameful than not to fulfill our own obligations on the loans which we have taken.".......The weaker Russia becomes economically, the stronger it needs to appear, both for domestic and foreign audiences. My Take - For those who've been reading P&D for some time you will recognize something I've been saying - Putin is putting on the bully boy huff because Russia is failing in every aspect needed to have a successuful society, and he needs to look strong.
They're broke, getting more broke by the day, and their population is shrinking dramatically. Their culture - economically, militarily and philosophically is antithetical to capital creation, and this is just the beginning of Russia's woes. They're lending money to Iran they don't have and will not recover because Iran is a doomed country....I might not look that way....but it's inevitable!
Historically Iran has always been a feast or famine nation due to the lack of consistent rain fall in the mountain, and most of the rest of Iran is useless desert. These mountain peoples are islolated to their valleys and are much like the Hatfield and McCoys requiring a army to keep these divergent groups under control, so there's little national unity.
Iran has no navigable rivers and no real navy, and if they did it could be bottled up in the Strait of Hormuz. It's just a matter of time as the world's economy flounders they will have to take military action tto raid others coffers, such as Saudia Arabia. That will be unacceptable and then they will be destroyed. Not occupied, because it's a mountain country with all the difficulties that implies. Just destroyed! And then Putin will not get his money!
