Open letter to the City of Ottawa mayor and councillors concerning Part 2 of our report on the city's climate plans

December 19, 2023

Dear Mayor Sutcliffe and City of Ottawa Councillors,

Subject: Part 2 of our Report Concerning The City of Ottawa's Climate Change Plans

Importance: High

I write on behalf of the International Climate Science Coalition, Canada (ICSC-Canada), an Ottawa-based not-for-profit corporation dedicated to promoting realistic, cost-effective environment and energy policy. The purpose of this open letter is to encourage the City of Ottawa council to cancel all climate change "mitigation" plans focused on attempting to "stop climate change".

On January 27, 2022, ICSC-Canada published part 1 of our report, subtitled "The City of Ottawa's Climate Change Master Plan: Infeasible and Damaging to Ottawans, the Environment and Human Rights." It may be read on our web site. As we wrote on the cover page of that report,

The City of Ottawa's plan is hopelessly naive and, ultimately, impossible to successfully enable. Nevertheless, it will cause great financial pain to residents and the businesses of Ottawa for no environmental benefit. Indeed, enabling the plan would contribute to an ecological and humanitarian disaster."

After reading this report, Ottawans naturally ask, considering the detrimental impacts of the city's plans, do we really have to do it?  In part 2 of our report, released on December 7, 2023, and subtitled "The City of Ottawa's Climate Change Master Plan is Unnecessary," we demonstrate that the city's Climate Change Master Plan is pointless as it is designed to address a crisis that does not exist. Please go here to read part 2 of our report.

We at ICSC-Canada would be pleased to meet with any of you personally and to present our findings in a council meeting or special session devoted to this topic. As some of you know, ICSC-Canada representatives have been presenting delegations to the Environment and Climate Change Committee, the most recent of which may be seen as the top two entries on Citizens challenge Ottawa's climate and | ICSC - Canada.

Only by properly considering the facts on all sides of this vitally important issue is there any chance that the City's plans will not simply leave us bankrupt, hungry, and freezing in the dark for no environmental benefit.

I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Sincerely,

Tom Harris, B. Eng., M. Eng. (Mech.)
