No cause is well served in the long run by a strategy of lies, deceit, and distortions, a fact that calls into question a strategy that is currently in vogue with liberals in general and gay-rights advocates specifically. The strategy is I refer to is fabricated outrage. Not only is this strategy unethical, it is unworthy. Further, it will ultimately bring more grief than gain to those who use it. Why? Because people—no matter what their worldview may be—do not like to be lied to. Even those who support liberal causes become uncomfortable when their fellow advocates use lies, deceit, and distortions to advance their cause.
The purpose of fabricated outrage is to win public
